If Cu Alter can use runes to negate damage from Carnage, can't he use the same to negate damage from enemies, making him virtually unkillable?

Even the gods want out of their way to help Jason after his return to his homeland. If you looked at it from an outsider's perspective, it seems like a given that Jason should be king. Especially since the man he would replace was proven to be dishonorable and out of favor with the gods. If you look at it from Jason's perspective, it has to be fate.

And again, Jason worked his entire life to make it happen and attain glory for himself. So it's not so simple to say he's just some entitled shit, because even though he had every reason to feel entitled he still worked as hard as he could to reach his goal.
