This is certainly a reason to be mad. The reason that Xcom 2's PC exclusivity was good was so it wouldn't be held back by console limitations. We could have huge areas, large number of enemies, tons more textures loaded at once.

If this was planned from the beginning and wasn't just 2k bugging Firaxis to do it later. It means that the PC version isn't as robust as it could be, still held back by shitty consoles.

Course the opposite could still be true. The console port could be heavily downgraded. They certainly won't be able to handle a large number of enemies at once without the game starting to chug along and it won't look nearly as good and if the port is bad, then Firaxis doesn't take the blame since they are only assisting and it's up to a third party

Sure they are. They only work for the Q&A format.

2 has less complexity then EU.
LW is a fairly large step up from EU.

2 is more complex than EU, its about on par or less complex than EW

>>144758415

I'd say X2 is about as complex as EU. One could argue X2 is less complex then EW, but its not by much.

The biggest actual difference is how harshly X2 punishes overwatch camping and moving a tile at a time, but that's a tactical change.

>>144759694

>If someone says something designed to stir shit that is obviously wrong its fairly obvious what they're trying to do
It could be but you don't know that, its not an uncommon opinion. Its not even that big of a deal, some people liked X1 better then 2. That's fine.

Complexity isn't even a really good measure of something. og x-com is way more complex than both of these games, but alot was unnecessary and didn't make contribute to what made it a great game.
>>
>>144759938
>maybe it's a polarizing point of view to take?
Its not a point of view, he's flat out lying about xcom2 to complain about it. Theres more than just the doom counter to the xcom 2 strategy layer and even then the doom counter after the patches is more complex than just do the story missions and the odd facility mission.

>please don't be the guy that argues for ids because then Reddit is the perfect place for you.
What the fuck does that have to do with anything?

>>144760076
I'm not criticising him for his opinion, I'm criticising the fact he's lying about the features of xcom2 just to whine about it.

If I said EU had no strategy layer beyond "do the alien base" it'd be clear what my intentions are.
>>
For me it kind of balances out - strategically, EU has a leg up in terms of complexity. I love both 2 and EU, but that's just the way it is imo. However, there's no arguing that XCOM2 has a considerably deeper tactical game. It solved the biggest design flaw with the last game, namely that any good player had to advance at the pace of a fucking snail. Timers were a great way of counteracting that.
>>
>>144760208
But all you're saying is that he's wrong, you aren't saying WHY.
>>
>>144760208
> just do the story missions and the odd facility mission.
and pick minor or major breakthrough to minimize the doom counter. that's all there is to it. you don't have to balance panic countries that lost contact can be reestablished, there's no airgame to add another layer to complexity, base building is brain dead compared the first one.
>>
>>144760336
Because saying the only part of the xcom 2 strategy layer is the doom ticker is obviously absurd I didn't think I needed to but if you need to me to walk you through the strategy layer I will.

Scanning is about making strategic choices about what you need in a limited amount of time.
With the recent patches you do need to put strategic thought into your scans and contacts otherwise you'll lose to the doomticker
Base management is on par with vanilla EU
Dark Events require strategic thought into what you can't realistically deal with

The airgame and EU strategy layer was no more complex than the xcom2 strategy layer, theres arguments for EW because of MECs, gene mods and Exalt but not EU

I'm pretty shit so I tend to not have anyone skilled enough yo solo it, so I try to set my team up without making contact and try to extract in as few turns after planting as possible.

There is nothing to remember, I know the fundamental los rules. LoS is wacky, and its unclear often how the game is going interact with terrain/cover. Its no more of a "cheat" then any other mod, like numeric health display. Even x-com has a "no line of fire." message paired with the free fire system.

>>
>>144771082
I totally forgot about the vanilla los indicator its been so long, but honestly the argument for the legitimacy of a utility like "gotcha" is only strengthened. There are also still unusual interactions with flanked/not flanked and the squad-sight indicator is extremely nice. Thanks for reminding me.

>>

>>
>>144771783
Actually, the fact that Gotcha gives you a squadsight LoS indicator and a objective LoS indicator technically does make it a cheat.
>>
>>144771917
No, they clearly stated the the three initial dlc did not take the place of a full EW style expansion. If the game sold well (which it did) they stated an expansion would be in the works.

Its only EW-esque in that its adding a class probably related to MECs
>>

How? It reduces more delays than Zip Mode.
>>
>>144772423
>Well yeah, but then all were doing then is re-establishing the "all mods are cheats" rule.
Now you're just over-reacting. Technically as in it provides you with information that you would otherwise not have, information that's actually very important in situations where it matters.

I've had missions where I've had to adjust my plan to make sure I get into a position to have line of sight on the objective for example (hack terminal on train is a common one). If I had Gotcha, it would have been significantly easier since I could just scan for the optimal position rather than having to play it safe.

At the moment I'm trying to rescue my local files and rebuild the mod. Someone advised me to recalculate the normals for each mesh which ended up turning entire sections invisible. Somehow I fucked my backups as well which adds to the mess.

It doesn't change the rules of the game, it makes the rules of the game more clear. You can still figure out that information with enough squinting, its not inaccessible purposefully. Jake didn't wake and say "I want to implement a system where its hard to tell what your sniper can see."

Does it make the game easier? Yes. Does that make it a cheat, actually no, its still a utility mod like numeric health display.

A retroactive AWC actually changes the way the game is played. That's why people considered a cheat. Not because it makes the game easier.

But that's wrong. Numeric health display doesn't give you any more information than you already know, it just makes it more digestible. The difference is that Gotcha gives you a CONFIRMATION of LoS rather than you having to rely on your assumptions based on experience. It's a cheat, get over it.

I was wondering this too. Thankfully, the weapons are apparently slightly more powerful than the default "resistance" variants, which I think is a neat touch (superior oldCOM tech and all that.)

I looked around in the .ini file to see if I could make it so that you had an infinite amount, but couldn't find any.

I'd like to think that's almost guaranteed, given how shit X2 still runs on many machines despite attempted optimizations.

I really don't know why the fuck they're porting to consoles. From what I understand, EU sold like ass on consoles, despite being a fairly good port though I could never imagine playing a turn-based tactics game with a fucking controller

They'd have to do some absurd optimizations in order to get X2 to run on consoles. If they don't, it'll be the blunder of the century.

So we have the common saying: like poles repel, unlike poles attract. A magnet creates an invisible area of magnetism all around it called a magnetic field.

He's got all of the footage recorded from the Live and Legendary campaign, he just needs to edit and put everything together. Actual spoilers: 0 soldier losses in the campaign, it's very likely he just steamrolled everything right after mag weapons + advanced grenade launcher and eventually proximity mine shenanigans.

I can understand why he's not uploading though. Everyone's completely over XCOM 2 vanilla, the hype for it has died down. People are interested in seeing modded campaigns now. If or when he decides to upload more episodes from his vanilla campaign, would that many people still be interested in watching now that they've become accustomed to game changing mods? He might have 20 missions in a row of him effortlessly blowing up aliens with grenadiers, would it be entertaining enough to bother uploading? How would you make it exciting when you stomp through everything? Would it be heavily edited down to only show tough missions? I'm not sure how I would handle it myself.

I hope he does finish it though, same with LnI. I've got enough time invested in the series that I want to see their conclusion, especially for LnI.

Delicious dead humans.

>do they put something in it that affects your thinking?
Probably.

Unlikely, since it's made from everything a human being needs to grow and live. Also, the ayylmaos cured all human diseases and whatnot.

>can the aliens eat it, or is it human food?
Well, it's definitely "human" food, but it's also probably meant for humans in general.

I wish I could stay in Tier 1 forever, maybe limit my guys max level to sergeant and stop the enemy progression at the first muton and make the game much longer. EU Berzerkers charge you only when you hit them. Rulers get a free move every time you perform an action, unless that action is free (such as grappling hook, or hair-trigger activation)

Considering how bad was performance, I really want to see it.

And one very important thing: let's face it, nuCOM is designed to be played with a controller (i.e. consoles), that's why everything is oversimplified. I blame everything on firaxis. They shit on everything, even their own work. And 2K was just an enabler.

How will the console port work? It's already pretty poorly optimized for PC. What are they going to do to make it run better on consoles?

As far as I know ENB doesn't really do anything that ReShade can't do. The biggest effects come from tone mapping and just basic color correction. Then of course fake Depth of Field and Ambient Occlusion, which both can do. The difference is that ENB completely tanks your frame rate while ReShade barely effects it.

I've got a high-tier rig so it hasn't really been an issue for me, but that doesn't make it less bullshit for you either. If you've got a mid-tier/lower mid-tier maybe hold out for patches and/or better hardware.

Fun is subjective, and I guess we have different opinions on what is fun. If you enjoy playing through Gatecrasher go ahead, I'll just skip it.

>>144876296
>xcom 2 needs mods to remove content to be fun
The point of XCOM 2 being mod friendly is so you can customize it to be what you want. Some people enjoy vanilla XCOM 2, some like the DLCs, and some like to play heavily modded campaigns.

Firaxis wanted to give a solid game that people could change if they wanted it. If you want swords to do more damage, you can do that. If you want enemy pods to be 6 ayys strong you can do that too.

New XCOM 2 player here. From what I understand, if you're moving your mouse over a cell and no yellow arrows appears beside any enemy's health bar, you won't be detected if you move there.

but I have plenty of times when I move to a cell where no arrow appears and I still get detected anyways.

is this some kind of bug or trick I'm supposed to know when I'm really not going to be detected?
>>
>>144879536
There is no "Brotherhood of Steel"
>>
>>144879748
Xcom 2 is a broken buggy game so you just have to learn to deal with that
>>
>>144879748
You were probably spotted by an enemy that you didn't see. Also keep in mind the path that your soldier takes when you move them.

Other than that, just play it safe and don't risk going into 1 tile range from detection. It's not always perfectly functional.
>>
>>144879929
If that was the case he'd have seen the pod while moving, just face it, xcom 2 is broken.
>>
>>144879748
Generally you want to move one tile back of wherever it says you'll see an enemy. I'm 95% certain that when it comes to the line of sight indicator its one tile off for pod activations.

If any of the tiles your soldier crosses when moving can be seen by the enemy (a red dot appears on the enemy's health bar to indicate LOS), they will see you when you move.
In concealment, any enemy you currently see has their detection radius marked as red tiles, but watch out for unseen civilians and enemies, especially when moving past window or on/off roofs.

How are they not facts? What do you disagree with? Grenadier spam will still win any fight even on Legendary, the doom ticker is negated by standard play, theres no thought required for the building or resource layer.

>>144886830
If a single tactic can win every fight you can safely say the tactical layer is broken and not good. Even overwatch camping wasn't as effective in EU.

The doom ticker is part of the strategy layer and theres no complexity or challenge to it, at least in EU you had to adjust your base building, resource management and airgame based on your situation. While in Xcom 2 the same rigid strategy works all the time and the scanning and dark events have zero impact on anything.

Actually defending the strategy layer is a new low for /xcg/.

>you haven't given one reason why my arguments aren't valid.
Because you don't have any you little shit.

All I could see is that you complain about some form of meta tactic that wins all missions.

But that's not true. I don't know on what difficulty you are playing on but on commander/legend grenades are a way to support your squad, they don't win fights. And yes, maybe you have to rely on them a little more than in EW but that is because you don't have the time for overwatching 20 turns in a row. It's that simple.

Less overwatching = more grenades.

It would be absolutly insane to enter a fight without grenades in xcom2 but same goes for EW.

Explosives are important.

>premises: a tactic can win a fight easily
>conclusion: the tactics system is broken
Actually the premise is that a single tactic can win any fight and that a working balanced tactical layer requires changing and adapting tactics on the fly, because the single tactic works the conclusion is valid.

>premises: the doom ticker is a strategy layer
>conclusion: there is no challenge
That wasn't my argument though, my argument was that the doom ticker is part of the strategy layer and can be safely ignored while the base building and resource management again can be easily done with the same build order. A well functioning challenging strategy layer would provide challenge and would require you to switch things up, it does not so it is not challenging.

>premises: game 1 had base building, resource management and other situational developments
>conclusion: game 2 does not
You missed the key part of the bit you highlighted "ADJUST BASED ON YOUR SITUATION" which is not required in Xcom 2.

>premises: 1 strategy performs well
>conclusion: there are no other strategies/due to the predictability of my actions, the game has no impact
If one static strategy always works its unbalanced and not good. Just because other inferior strategies can work doesn't mean any of the "random" elements have an impact since they don't effect the valid strategy.

>do i need to explain this one?
That wasn't really an argument but its true, the general at least used to acknowledge the strategy layer was bad, even the storyposter anon claimed it was bad.

You've pulled conclusions I either haven't said or ommited things from the premises.

False alarm chaps, it was the Suppressible Targeting Abilities mod that did it. I thought it just meant single-target abilities, like Combat Protocol.

I guess I've got to decide whether to install the whole set of suppression mods and the grenade damage falloff one, or just revert it
>>
>>144890047
Are you sure your not arguing for why X1 is a bad game here?

X1 has one dominant method for handling the strategic game. There is no point in deviating from it, as anything else is sub-optimal. The country panic system means >acquire engineers>build sats>launch sats at end of month on panicked nations. I don't see how this is more complex then the doom ticker.

The tactical game for X1 and X2 are different but have the same amount of depth imo, though X2 has a better variety of viable classes/perks. In X2 you emphasize grenadiers, in X1 it was snipers. Instead of creeping and spamming overwatch in X1, your in a hell of a hurry in X2.

X2 is an actual sequel to X1, familiar but different. You'll be missing out on the modding scene which is pretty sucky. The X1 strategic game while having an optimal method requires you to adapt your strategy and focus on different things based on your situation, Xcom 2 quite simply does not.The only thing remotely requiring adaptation is the intel game and even then only on Legendary.

How were they buzzwords? Keeping up with the doom ticker is easy enough purely doing the story missions and maybe a facility mission that was already in your path to a story mission. EU requires you to allocate limited resources a lot more carefully and make strategic choices over where to do abduction missions and where to put your initially limited satellites, unless you played on the really low difficulties but thats identical to x2.

yes there is a clear path on how you need to handle the doom tracker (by doing story missiosns and facility missions) but that requires you to actually plan ahead your expansion, save enough intel for future contacts keep contact slots avalibable and all of that on top of research of new tech and doing PoI plus dark events that might force you to change your plans on a blink of and eye

The only dark event that is any threat is the doom ticker one and since you always prioritise that it doesn't require adaptation, you never need to think which to block based on your situation. You don't need to plan ahead as you have so much time and unless you constantly fuck around the doom ticker isn't an issue as the story missions provide enough time.

The research and facility order is the same regardless of your situation.

If you have a bad research order and prioritise the wrong countries and base facilities you will lose the game and that order changes based on your situation.

I just haven't experienced this flexibility you speak of.
Sat spam>laser weapons>carapace>whatever I want hasn't really failed me.

Also I often don't go for dark events that fill the doom ticker If I feel the other rewards compensate.

me neither, EU/EW has always been very straight forward with what to do in the strategic layer
i personally have had a more dynamic experience with X2

Did you play Classic/Impossible EU?
Flexible isn't really the right word, I'd say you have to constantly adapt your strategies and change it, you can't use that many different strategies but you have to keep adapting and adjusting them.

It wasn't EU for me, it was EW Classic Ironman, two separate vanilla campaigns, both identical in how I played the strategic game. I can't claim to have experience with Impossible.

Ahh, I'm trying to keep it to EU as comparing X2 to EW (or LW) isn't fair.

>>144895104
yea i finished a campaign in EW in classic

See even there I disagree. I played through EU once, shrugged my soldiers and said it was alright, then came back for EW and Long War. I understand that you like X1 better, but I really don't think there is a way to objectively argue its flat out better then the other. They are different games to me, not better or worst.

Same thing I would say in a discussion of X1 vs. og x-com. I might think x-com is overall better, but they are different games, arguing which one is better or worse isn't a a serious point of discussion for me as I think people should play both.

Impossible ironman here. Satellites > Mecs > laser > whatever you want

Thats a fair point, I just honestly do not find Xcom 2 gameplay to be good quality or ready for release without AH for the mid-game difficulty. I'm sure it'll be great post expansion but until then the only enjoyment I can get is heavily modded campaigns due to how easy it is to min-max and ignore the strategy layer.

>>144896102
Again, trying to keep it EU, comparing EW to X2 isn't fair.

>Higher recruitment cost

I'm still laughing.
