Why is every support in this game terrible?

Okay so "core" just means it's a suggested item that's supposed to be good on that god. It'd be a good idea for you to learn what's good to build on what god outside of the game otherwise you're gonna get meme'd on with the terrible suggested builds.

Damage just means the item gives you damage, defense likewise

It's less about classes really. Depending on what mode you're playing their importance rises or falls. Like if your team picks all squishy damage dealers you're gonna get fucked on by a team with an actual frontline

This probably isn't true, but at the same time it's definitely possible. Hirez hasnt been getting much from esports recently, and It's clear they've abandoned any attempt to continue the growth of smite competitively.
It's unlikely they'd do it now though, since we already have the season ticket out. I expect the trend to end next year, and we'll see them drop the competitive scene after worlds(which will have the lowest prize pool to date).
It's a shame these retards managed to fuck up what could've been the best competitive moba.

Ehhh, there is a difference in stats because the items are for defence & damage. I dunno what items are "core" but I assume that means what's recommended. Probably don't follow that and ask for specific gods here.

Now, when you say what class is better against other classes you gotta clarify what game modes you're playing. That being said, in a straightforward 1v1 matchup in a lane it's like a triangle:

Guardians/Warriors typically beat assassins because they build protections and can usually survive burst long enough to retaliate.

Mages typically beat Guardians/Warriors because of safer clear and more sustained poke.

Assassins usually beat mages because they don't really care about clear much and look more into diving and burst, which they can do very well.

There are hunters too but they're kind of a wild card and really depends on the character you're playing.

But no class is strictly better than another 100% of the time. they just achieve different things and have different roles in a team. There's also player skill which is unpredictable.

Would Nemesis' ult be better if she wasn't hovering in the air to do it?

Also, for builds, it's best to read the descriptions and not just go for the same items for each god, or the most expensive item. If you're really lost, look at youtubers or streamers to figure out the build for a specific god and do not play conquest without practice.
