Micro is what makes an RTS and RTS. Right now you just click on the enemy fleet and then watch ships blow up, it's practically an auto-calc battle. You can't reposition or pull some ships back, you can do formations, there's no active abilities for you to use.

I wouldn't mind it so much if the game's victory conditions didn't require you to conquer shit.

Split all your ships into smaller, unit fleets and move them together in groups if you're on the offensive.

If your allies see that you aren't stacking everything into a single fleet that's 60%+ of your force limit, they won't stack on top of it.
>>

Morgan makes sense, though I'd drop pacifist for fanatic materialist
Yang is spot on.
I don't really see Zakharov being a xenophobe?
If anything they'd love to get their hands on alien tech. They wouldn't be friendly per se, rather more wanting to dissect the alien, but they'd still be fascinated by it.
Deidre makes sense.
Santiago and Miriam both fit in their fanatic ethos, but both seem more xenophobic for the second.
Santiago because she'd want to prove that they're superior, and Miriam because the aliens are godless heathens (and because Miriam is a bitch who doesn't like anyone)
Lal would probably be a Fanatic Pacifist without the materialist ethos.

Cool, kinda like how I have played.
I've had one defensive war, kept myself out of alliances and I've uplifted presentients.

Earthbound presentients are great for energy, better than you can be.
Prole presentients are great for minerals, better than you can be.
So I don't think you need to worry about getting mineral/energy traits for yourself, focus on intelligent and such.

Is each sector supposed to have 5 planets or does it not matter? Do they get penalized like I do if I have more than 5?
>>
>>144137751
Paradox cannot make good ai, have you ever seen how in crusader kings the ai will regularly lock itself into asimovian loops trying to avoid going over the supply limit when moving doomstacks down to mali? If paradox knew what they were doing that wouldn't happen but they don't and their fans don't care.
>>
>empire wide sharing of strategic resources
yes or no? if one sector has the resource and a different sector or core world needs it, does it get shared?

>ethics divergence

>>
>>144138052
This. You have to wait for the autistic modding fanbase to fix this broken ass game and that won't happen til Paradox finishes rolling out the last of the big patches.

>tfw born in a time where you cant have a decent and challenging AI

Why could i not be born 500 years from now.
>>
>>144136751
What would you suggest otherwise?

I usually use Robot miners -- I could take Weak, and just use the 'bots to make up for the penalty in mining and in my armies.

>>144136269
Bumping.
>>
>>144137992
No there's no limits on how many worlds can be in a sector. Only put as many into a sector as you need though, don't go overboard. It's easier to add planets than take them out, and once you consign a planet to sector AI you should consider its usefulness to be minimal at best. Try to develop it as much as possible before you give it away so the AI doesn't fuck it up too badly, now that they've nixed the farm issue.
>>
>>144138142
It should vary with government and policy. Highly centralized governments should have total control over most of the aspects of sector governance while decentralized ones should leave it in the hands of the sector ai. But of course this is assuming we live in a world where this game got some decent simulation elements going which we all know isn't going to happen.
>>144138193
The fanbase isn't nearly autistic enough to fix these games. Hell did anyone else notice that the major rivers in crusader kings allows for a quick and dirty inclusion of river republics by turning the rivers into new oceans and leaving major river provinces at the mouth as gate keepers to keep ocean boats out and river boats in? I noticed that when Old Gods came out and got some good results by tinkering with it but I don't think anyone else worked with that in the past two years.
>>
>>144138142
>bugged or fixed?

still bugged, it even got worse, what i've done is change the divergence interval to 3600 days from 360 to counter the massive x10 divergence we have now, you can still get pop on your own capital with different ethics even with negative divergence.

it's a mess, you can put the divergence interval to 360000 days to kind of disable the mechanic as it is getting ridiculous now

It's just sad that paradox continues to release broken games for us to be the QA

How long ago was EU2 released? Like 20 years ago? I can't believe they STILL do this shit.

I just came from The Division which is also a maddening mess, there's something with swedes being utter shit programmers I swear.

It's been a fun ride, friends have moved mainly to Overwatch so i'll play that for a while, I'll come back to the game when this people fix the most glaring problems, or when the community bails them out like with Magna Mundi.

I'll still lurk this general anyway, i'm enjoying the moon landing autism.

>Aren't synths dangerous? Isn't there the chance of an AI rebellion?

You have a pretty high chance of getting the event that makes them never rebel against you if you keep the total synth population low and given the citizenship rights. Your main risk there is other Empires getting them and fucking everything up for you before the even triggers. But since the population is already low if they do rebel putting them down will be easy.

So my

The Fallen Empires will only battle the Prethoryn or Unbidden if they spawn in the borders but won't launch fleets outside their territory.
>>
>>144152762
That's not true.
The swarm in my game was hunted down by a spiritualistic fallen empire.
They would go out of their fucking way to go destroy all the swarm planets that weren't inside another empire's borders.
>>
>>144153142
Ah okay so I may be better off than I'd initially thought, the Unbidden spawned jutting right into the FE's borders
>>
>>144153458
What kind of FE is it? I think that might impact it as well but I'm unsure. I had the Prethoryn spawn partially in a xenophobic FE and they attacked them.
>>
>>144153280
>They would go out of their fucking way to go destroy all the swarm planets that weren't inside another empire's borders.
maybe that's why they seemed lazy to me. by the time the swarm showed up in my game almost every single system had been claimed, and all of the empires' fleets had been decimated by previous wars with me.

the swarm came in on the opposite side of the galaxy, and i had to go to war again with like 3 empires to gain access and start kicking swarm ass, while the 3 FE just sat there with a thumb up their ass and looked down at me

Man this patch really didn't add much. When's the asimov one? The problem wasn't really anything they fixed, but the lack of anything worthwhile to do in the midgame besides warring.

Wars were not very fun because there's no micro and there's no diversity in battles, just blob vs blob and if you're lucky a secondary blob vs blob battle somewhere else

My first crisis was AI rebellion so I just ate away bits of allied, enemy, and neutral territory without anyone saying a thing to me about it then rushed the first homeworld that popped up because I was lucky enough to have border access to it due to a war.

I then proceeded to prosecute a series of wars to connect it to the rest of my empire. It was dumb but amusing, the Machine Consciousness was never able to become a threat even though I was the only one so much as attempting to do anything about them.

And my synths hadn't rebelled so I was getting tons of free conquered pops to work those worlds.

Here's what I'm working with now. There have been some conflicting posts on whether or not I should go with Thrifty, Communal, or Conformists (among others) but I feel that the extra Energy will be worth the most in the long run, allowing me to field a bigger fleet while disregarding the limit, or permitting me to allocate more Pops to Science tiles instead of to Power Plants.

I'm not sure if Science Directorate is the way to go anymore; Despotic Hegemony would give me another 5% to research -- and later a full 10%, for a total of 30% between Ethos, Traits, and Government. Maybe I should stick with Science Directorate to get a better chance of locking down the 'core' technologies before moving over to Neural Network Administration once it becomes available?

Anyway, any further advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think taking some of the RNG out of research with the extra research alternative is better than increasing your research speed personally. Especially if you want a better chance at picking up some good rare tech earlier than your rivals.

So stick with Science Directorate and its enhanced form, Illuminated Technocracy, all game? There are techs that make it redundant, is all. Is it worth keeping it even after it's providing diminishing returns?

Once you're down to mostly repeatables it's a good time to change to something else, either research speed to continue cementing your edge by pounding the repeating tech out or something offering a more direct bonus. What happens if you destroy wormhole generator and the fleet is out of range in enemy territory?
>>
>>144178117
People think strategy is all about how simply moving units around and besting another player. Yet at its core, it isn't, its about dealing with uncertainty. Thats why the best strategy games have significant random elements, to create uncertainty. Panzer General (with Fantasy general), Steel Panthers, Atomic's V for Victory series, are the best examples. Most of the games people cite as "good strategy games" actually aren't strategy games at all. Chess is not a good "strategy game" neither is X-Com, starcraft or most RTS. They have their own strategy elements, but not games that require good understandings of probabilities and their effects on planning..
>>
>>144179530
But when you put it back in the sector, the planet that has the resource, then your belthorian power plant wont work, because the resource isnt in your sector?

Dont you find playing against another person a random element? Id say good strategy game is one that gives a person enough space to use creativity - which promts other player to adapt to the new circumstances.

Starcraft 2 could be called a bad "strategy" game because in the end it all boils to few well tested strategies.

I've got two of every ship design then a bunch of different battleships. Destroyers have swarm missiles and flak artillery, cruisers are dedicated carriers with lance/proton torpedoes, battleships have a design for every weapon. Except kinetic artillery or short range L weapons.

It's simple.
They don't fucking work. They are still considered one single missile so one shot from a PD destroys them
Also, I don't know if the fixed this, but Neutron Torpedoes are immune to PD.
>>
>>144184654
Space Lances makes your fleet battles look like Legend of Galactic Heroes

Even smalll torps have more range.

What are the modifieres they get against PD?
>>
>>144185495
>Why use lances at all when you can get those sweet neutron torpedoes?
Lances have better range and instahit they have minimum possible loss of DPS due to targeting and overkill issues. Also armor gives better survivability as it doesn't require energy and regen is nearly worthless in big blobs fight. So it better to have armor negating weapons, you don't need counter to weaker options.
>>
>>144185624
They are short range, fast, and counter PD systems. So if you encounter a PD heavy fleet, they'll get in the damage

>>144185672
You sure they aren't short range, coulda swore they were.

>>144185709
They still get shot down in one successful shot, but they have high evasion apparently. And Neutron Torpedoes in my experience are really fucking fast. Faster than plasma at least.

>>
>>144185793
That was a rhetorical question, you should be using a mixture of all weapons that aren't kinetic

>>144185870
Crystal plating is straight up health without the need for power and torpedoes don't ignore them. You get them from killing crystal elites.

>generally it's better to specialize
Specialize ships, sure. But you should have a diverse fleet to counter any specializations that happen to beat you.

>>
>>144186026
Lances because they ignore armor.
Shields are never a problem since you can't really mount a lot of them on a ship and from the start they don't give a large amount of shield HP.
Also with the right modules you can make Lances have 100% accuracy so the 5% accuracy bonus the torpedoes have is irrelevant.

Also if you are using shield ignoring weapons, use only shield ignoring weapons, because if you don't the shields will eventually come down so the bonus your torpedoes had is negated.

>Also if you are using shield ignoring weapons, use only shield ignoring weapons, because if you don't the shields will eventually come down so the bonus your torpedoes had is negated.
yeah this is what I meant when I said that it is best to specialize in 1 type

also, what do you mean with the right modules? spaceport modules?

I have fleet academy and navigators guild for combined +6 hit, then I have tachyon sensors for an other +6 hit

is hit capped at 100? if so I will immediately switch to lances
>>
>>144186397
Yeah.
Accuracy can go over 100 but the game will just cap it at 100.
>>
>>144186026
Lances have the highest raw damage output, and they deal their damage instantly.
They are best against big enemy ships, and if you have five or ten battleships full of them you can melt enemy fleets before they get a chance to deal significant damage.

Arc emitters deal a little less raw damage, but they are supposed to arc from one target to antoher and have a higher chacne to hit than lances. They are supposed to be the anti-swarm energy weapon.
I have never seen them do the whole 'arc' thing when I tried to use them in 1.0, but maybe I was just unlucky or it was bugged. Maybe they fixed it by now.

Neutron torps are great, but they give the enemy time to shoot back.

Personally, I prefer to have my fleet battles with lances because they look cooler.

Crystals can't be bypassed or take bonus damage.

Yeah, and shields can tank any armor penetration from the first lance volleys. I use as much crystal as possible, I want all the power possible for weapons first so they don't have a chance of really causing damage in the first place.

>Alien Overlords: -100% happiness
Should I just purge these fucks? I've done everything to try make them happy, edicts, orbital mind control, change policies so they like it more. It's been over 100 years and these faggots are still trying to incite riots. Managing their faction is a pain in the ass.

Just enslave the miners and farmers then purge the rest. Eventually they will conform.

Fuck pirates, they couldn't be bothered to make a good early game challenge so instead we get a ragtag band with a fleet comparable to an early galactic empire which flies around blowing up mining stations for no obvious gain.
