I dont understand why Sectors are gamplay elements instead of UI features.
I mean, you have to spend resources to remove shit from them, spend resources to upkeep them (you can at max get 75% from them as taxes), and for whatever the fuck reason get locked out of any control over the worlds contained in them. Compared to the Civ 5 autamtization that just simply did shit in the bacground, you could turn it on/off at will for free, and could overrule its decisions anytime.

There is literaly no gameplay benefit for them, they only serve to compensate for the absloutely, unspeakeably, shittastic fuckup of an aborted cumstain that is the UI, and they fail even at that because you still have to comb through them for whatever spaceport-related shit you want to do (solar panels, observatory and mind contol on every planet? have fun building the spaceport, then updating the spaceport, then buiulding the modules on all 200 planets. Mind, these are all done through seperate menus, and cant be just qued up all at onec, meaning at least 3 visits for each, and you cant cycle through the planets, so you have to go empireplanetlist->planet->build what you want X3 per planet. Also, the planetlist is only takes half the screen, cant be extended so it only shows like 5 planets [wihtout information if its building shit or not], resulting in scrolling out of the ass.)

What the fuck.

Research penalty already does that function, and it does jack shit in that regard as well, that couldnt have been done by a simpe ineficency maulus on the income.

Stripping control of your empire to that degree, and with this alll around implementation and UI is like if in an FPS to shoot your gun you have to jump then solve a cpatcha per bullet and if you have too much ammo (a counter that you cant actually see, and regenerates automaticaly so you have no control over it) your "forward" button will stop working. You cant even waste that shit i to get around this arbitary limitation thanks to the retard shooting system.

It would be better if they were actually kinda like vassals in CK2.
In democratic governments they would have their own chosen governors on limited time supported by factions, in oligarchies factions would be trying to influence you to put their members in this spot, in monarchies you put whatever you want but also thee would be a risk that they would rebel against you.
Fuck whole admiral/governor thing could be done this way.
So to pacify factions you actually give command of some forces to some smug faggot from some factions or something.

Fucking wasted potential.
>>
Are there any ship model mods yet?
>>
>>144043871
Problem is that there is no tools to control or affect sectors.
No policies on between sector migrations, can't specify which planet have specialization. Many small things that would actually make this game tolerable.
Like actually spending resource when building/ship start producing not when it land in quene. So you could quene buildings ins sector or just plan planet development in sector and governor would just build it when resources arrive.
>>
>>144043427

>Research penalty already does that function
No it doesn't, not really.
The research penalty just makes sure you don't science out of control as you expand.
You still want to expand constantly with just the research penalty.

It with the sector system means it is in your interest to build up planets before sectoring them off. You'll expand and have stops in your expansions you wouldn't otherwise have.
They together creates hurdles for your expansion you have to suffer or exploit around.

too bad that after sectoring them off, in aadecade they revert to, at best, half the production of what you made them regardless what you do, with replacing happiness buildings, ignoring tile resources and djacencccy bonuses, ingroing adn shuffling slaves and robots...

There is no reason to develop anything else other than your core worlds becuase the sector will just fuck it up anyway, so the best tactic is to just secure some breating room, colonize fucking everything, and give the sector plenty of time to unfuck itself, then roll on the wave of quantity over quality, because the reverse is fucking impossible after the first century. All the while just hoping that the fanatic purger wont rape your anus in the meantime.

And dont even get me strted on ringworlds.

Get the downscaled ships mods. It makes battleships actually seem like battleships and shrinks turret sizes so ships don't seem like toy gun platforms and instead seem like actually battleships.

Also I have a question, what's the point of putting weapons with different ranges on ships? I want to have battleships with different weapons and not all the exact same type but won't they just be ineffective if they're only shooting half their guns?

You could just liberate some areas from him.
Liberated areas form new nation with the same ethics like you.
SO they are friendly to you and start converting pop to your ethics even if they are not your vassal.
Its easier to vassal them and if you vassal them(by diplo or force) they are more happy as they share your ethics(and bonus from liberation).
Also liberating lower your threat meter. SO if you snatch a planet or two also liberate some you don't want.

>Having obstacles in the way of your goal to make games harder is very common.

But these aren't so much obstacles as they are petty annoyances. An obstacle to progress which is organic and not so gamey and noticeable works better than arbitrary maluses which make it harder to do what you're fucking supposed to do in the game, the only thing you can do in the game.

There have been numerous undisputable masterpieces in Paradox games, such as the strikingly realistic classic Darkest Hour or its medieval counterpart Europa Universalis III. Stellaris will not join their ranks; its surface is too generic, its presentation too provocative and its messages too obscure. Its take on the abysmal is an illumination in one person’s despair, but a paroxysm of another’s perversion. It will remain underground – treasured by the most avant-garde among intellectuals for its edifying if horrifying insight into the fundaments of human morality. Philistines and self-proclaimed critics alike will shun Stellaris, but you can’t fault them for that. It takes wisdom to appreciate its subtleties, and courage to side with the unpopular opinion. Sed domi maneas paresque nobis novem continuas fututiones.

Superficially, Stellaris appears to be a game which caters to the most proletarian among men; aloof critics dismiss it as such often without a second thought. As complacent as these self-proclaimed "understanders of strategy" are, they fail to realize that Stellaris is a cult classic, a chef d'oeuvrea buried under false preconceptions and unfounded criticism. This gem is hidden because it does not shine; it is buried because its tone is that of abyssal black. Stellaris pries into to the darkest corners of our subconscious, the most visceral of our cognition, the most carnal of our urges, and the most primal of our instincts.

As brilliantly put by Cattalus, "Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo"; to describe the artistic qualia of Stellaris would be to describe music to the deaf, color to the blind or beauty to the philistine. The painting speaks for itself, and it is up to the player to fully absorb its depth. Its sublimity will ever be debated yet always remain objectively irrefutable; the fundamental insight it provides into human and perhaps animalistic nature may shape the basis of strategy games for centuries to come.

I'd love for their to be some way to get a research treaty from a FE, like, if you do a very special quest for them or the like.

Sometime like going on a crusade to remove a bunch of empires from some holy systems for Holy Guardians, stuff like that.

In essence, become the puppet, almost a vassal, at the beck and call of a FE in exchange for their tech and support.

It'd be pretty cool if doing God's work against a crisis got the FE's to take notice of you.
Fucking over the machine consciousness impresses both Holy Guardians (destroying soulless machines) and Keepers of Knowledge (removing GIB GIB GIB)
Fucking over the Unbidden gets you brownie points with Holy Guardians (SMITE FOUL WARP DAEMONS) and Enigmatic Watchers (they don't want their entertainment's souls to be eaten)
Fucking over the Prethoryn gets you brownie points with Enigmatic Watchers (they don't like their entertainment being turned into biomass) and Militant Isolationists (Tyranids make terrible neighbors and constantly try to encroach on borders)

That being said, having a massively expanded tech tree with the FE's being near god-like would be a plus.

I'm talking about shit like t10 lances, t10 fucking everything, fleets of dreadnoughts, titans, leviathans, and whatever else giant ass ships you can think of; god damn dyson spheres, the works.

In exchange, make them far, far, far more apathetic when it comes to smacking down uppity younglings; them going to "war" with you consists pretty much of one or two fleets of 3 battlecruisers and 7 escorts, or however much it takes to be at naval power parity with you, since they literally don't care enough to curbstomp you. In exchange, make "destroying their valuable, ancient, irreplaceable ships" a major diplomatic malus with them for a long, long, long time.

Battleships should only be outfitted with either Kinetic Batteries or Lances. A torpedo/missile battleship is alright as well but you have to load it up with small/mediums and combine it with lots of other missile cruisers/destroyers to overwhelm PD.

This fucking game.

Only corvettes are doing the job. Destroyers will sometimes provide some fire support, and battleships will always idle in the back, even when I have aggressive computers installed, even when I split the blob into a dozen of little fleets.
And there's absolutely nothing you can do about this shit.

So when they 'inhabit' a host they tease them to near orgasm, then hold them there as long as they're bonded, only very very occasionally letting them cum. That way, when they're not in control the inhabited creature is constantly trying to get off instead of thinking coherently. It is NOW that this dream shall be realized, or perpetual tease machines conquering the galaxy...and it'll go not with a bang, but a whimper of desperate longing...[/spoilers]

No mods either because mods are cheating, unless it's something that penalizes the player

Actually, you are given 2 same-habitability planets within 2 hyper-lane connections every time. I eliminated a lot of random planet generation, so now there is only one habitable world per system, max. And upped the number of underdeveloped nations.

good:
Solar panels to make the spaceport pay for itself.
Orbital Hydrophonics because 3 food for 1 energy is a good deal for a large part of the game.
Crew quarters because they're free and useful in times of peace.
Observatory over any planet that has 4+ laboratories.

bad:
Synchronized defenses are pretty useless. Only use those if that spaceport is in range of a defense platform or better.
Don't bother with the planet modifying modules.

other:
If engineering bays sped up upgrading as well they'd be good, but just for repairing they're kind of meh.
I tend to make one spaceport my fleet builder and give that one all the special resource modules.

Notepad++ search completed.

You don't. Advanced empire can have max 4 more colonies, but nothing in the files actually generates the planets. So I assume it colonizes the worlds that already exist.

Early game is fun. I dimly recall losing my home planet in my first interstellar war only to come roaring back in LIBERATION 4 years later after rebuilding the fleet.

Sadly this is all now a faded memory against the endless, unremitting slog of planet-hopping late-game warfare, where your clusterfuck fleets fight clusterfuck battles against other clusterfuck fleets for 1% warscore gains and you have to do that literally 70 times to gain the zomg 3 planets you can take in a single war.

IT'LL HAPPEN TO YOU TOO

Okay so on the subject of genetic manipulation.
Say my end goal is to give my species Intelligent(2), Adaptive(2), Communal(1) and Charismatic(1).
That's 6 points total, and you get 2 points at the start of the game.

Does that then mean I would need to get 4 negative traits (since there are no negative traits greater then -1) in order to have the 6 points needed?

I'm starting to wonder if it's even worth getting Intelligent; I could just take a single planet, put it full of labs, and only change the pops on there to have it and noone else.
Would obviously only work in an empire where migration is forbidden, but it might be worth it.

Sell the planet or resettle the pops.
>>
>>144111601
Obviously you will fill them all up.

Unless you mean some 1 pop meme strategy your planets will naturally saturate. And even that would require you to mod in unlimited core planets and when you are modding might as well remove the science penalty while you are at it.

Never bothered with ship creation because didnt feel like updating designs constantly.

So, is this overkill on the lances, and should i stuck more defense on this baby? If so, armor or shield?
Note that my fleet is ~1-2-3-4 of battleship-cruiser-destroyer-corvett, so it has plenty of meatshields.

I'm confused as to how the game calculates ship upgrade costs.
I have 15 ships. I get the basic combat roles tech. In the ship designer, the new computer costs 1 mineral, other then that the ship design remains identical.

So I'd assume the cost to upgrade would be 15 minerals.
Instead, the upgrade cost for the 15 ships is 75 minerals, or 5 minerals per ship.
Where does the extra cost come from?
