From your battle screenshot it looks like you're pretty powerful, so maybe you should expand more for energy/mineral and other kinds of research.

Maybe find proles/earthbounds to uplift for efficient nminerals and energy if you have the 2 +trait points tech in society.

Enhanced tooltip looked kind of neat, but after you've already played the game and studied the wiki maybe it's not that important.

When they work. in MoO planets have stronger versions of shields and shields had flat damage reduction part so planets could be literally unpenetrable to anything but top tier weapons.

Beautiful Battles is neat, but all it does is scale the ships down and changes some ranges. Formation spacing stays the same, so ships are super tiny and very far apart.
It definitely makes for better scale, but I can barely see any of the ships in my fleet if I zoom in to watch the carnage.

That is exactly the point.

It is ridiculously easy to take a planet, even though orbital bombardment does fuckall damage to population and structures.

Planets need to be harder to take, and it should be a meaningful strategic decision what kind of invasion I pull off.

Do I use surgical strikes and drop a batallion or three of Marauder-suited Mobile Infantry into the enemy capital, army command psts, etc., leaving most things intact?
Or do I carpet bomb a drop zone the size of Montana, land with ten Space Marine Legions and a Titan Legion or two and fuck their shit up?
Or do I combine both approaches?

The game mechanics to pull this off are actually in place, 'morale' damage and actual damage is simulated.

I know, I know.

Don't waste it. Influence is very limited resource. Only enact edicts and policies when you can afford them.
Don't overdo frontier outposts as they have have both high upfront cost and monthly upkeep. Dismantle them as soon as you don't need them.
Keep a reserve of at least 200 at all times so you can afford a frontier outpost if you need it.
Research the influence granting techs and build the empire capital complex as soon as you can as that gives bit more extra influence too.

I you like any of the in-game designs from images\units\ships you can go into races and change DesignsPictureFamilyIndex to whatever you want in human.txt, otherwise you'd have to go digging on the forums.

Colonizing doesn't require influence.
Just don't rely on frontier outposts too much. They should be used to temporarily secure an area before you colonize it, secure far out strategic resources or otherwise extremely rich areas and holding key areas from enemy border push. They shouldn't be your way to expand.

Still Earthbound+Thrifty for energy planets is nice.
They'll have +20% happiness for being uplifted as well.
I add strong to mine as well since earthbound gives +20% army damage. Not that armies are that important.

Any presentients except for proles can become decent researchers by adding Intelligent+Natural X, better than main race even on their preferred world due to the +20% happiness.

Natural Intellectuals can get even more society if you're lacking that and want more of it.

Ok, found a perfect ship set.
I want to kiss that guy's asscheeks for the Angels Fall First shipset, because the Antarean Empire has my most beloved ship designs in movie/game/comic history.
Second to them is the Progenitor designs in Homeworld 2, which is why i love the Antarean design as it takes that Progenitor style and mixes it up with what Human designs should look like.

No mods, it's a clean install, in 1.0.0 and 1.0.3 it works but in 1.1 it doesn't.

Are you sure it's working for you? When you click on a pop of a planet if you have -10% ethics divergence for capital world for example does it show as -1%?

While my people are happy because they're xenophiles, I had a bad feeling about accepting that Migration Treaty from a neighbor shortly before becoming their ally.

After a short delay, they're now migrating at least 4-7 pops every year into my colonies. They have a bonus to Engineering at least, but their migration is currently exclusively targeting my Ringworld colonies. I can't purge them however as my people are Xenophiles and there's also a newly discovered Fallen Empire that hates purgers and slavers.

I found that reeducation effect of negative ethic divergence is quite strong. Enslave dissidents and they will eventually drift into you empire ethics then you can relise them.

Meanwhile aggressive computers give you the same damage buff, an extra speed boost, and an evasion chance which rather then a damage reduction completely avoids damage.

So unless you plan to fight several battles in a row with your fleet without repairing, it looks like aggressive computers are just plain better.

lets put it this way, a fallen empire has 20k power per fleet, generally speaking they have around 4 to 6 fleets
now ontop of this they also are equipped with tachyon lances which have maximum range and instant damage
and ontop of that they have jump drives allowing them to bypass any and all defenses you try to plan for

or just download the Robut start. You can play as a synth race that builds and acts as robuts but doesn't trigger the crisis event.

it's shit though, you have to build new pops and robuts take for fucking ever to build, not to mention its extremely costly early game.

It would be better if the mod adjusted the early game construction cost to balance it out...but it is what it is.

I have a few areas in my galaxy that are shared between empires.

One between a vassal and his liege.

Another was a pre-ftl species that got ftl.
For a while both empires had their capitol in the same system.

I think they function well as planetary uniques with the % bonus.

But yeah it does seem like a bit of a waste of a mechanic.

Stone Age Primtives, Capitols and Radioactive Wasteland.
And it's not really that interesting adjacency bonus. I think it would be more interesting if you had buildings that gave a bonus in just one direct, maybe several steps in one direction even. Could make the tile management more fun.

As it is now the tile management is very basic for a 4x.


I think if the hub and processing plant would just be changed to give adjacency bonus I'd put them down on every planet, while now I put down hubs and processing planet on larger specialized worlds.

I'm developing a mod for a custom scourge start with a fairly different gameplay focus. Essentially I want to make ship production almost entirely through queens (like with the domestic space queen event) and have you run around as the scourge dominating shit.

I've gotten through a substantial amount of bullshit regarding scopes and the way the entity files are read and related to planet classes. I'm creating several unique swarm planet types that are specialized in some way. You will also have the option to absorb conquered sentients/pre-sentient lifeforms into your lower consciousness with varying bonuses and risks. I'm also hoping that planets can interact with each other, similar to adjancey bonuses on planets, but I have no idea how to do this yet.

I've had some success so far. If anyone wants to give some advice or is generally interested I'd be happy to share what I've done so far. This is the half-assed mockup I made to the infested diffuse. It's not terrible....I think :D

The settler thing is more OP than the free market in my opinion.

Combine this with the mod that removes penalties for culture, science (both fine IMO) and happiness (broken) for settling cities and you have the potential to play like the Greek/French AI.
