I am playing Cyber Sleuth and just got to chapter 19. Holy shit I didn't see that plot twist coming but it makes sense in hindsight. Spoilers of course beyond here.
Kyoko being Alphamon is pretty cool but raises some thoughts. I like how in CS that there are digimon that are female but don't follow the standard pattern. Like how Fei's Tigervespamon was female. Also am I right to understand that Lordknightmon and Alphamon took to their hosts differently? Like how Lordknightmon didn't fully become Rie but had her thoughts amplified by Rie while Alphamon fully became Kyoko mentally and starts to identify herself as Kyoko even as Alphamon? Interesting concept that CS pulled off with this.
Overall I'm really enjoying this digimon game and I like the SMT feel of the concept that's a cross between Soul Hackers and Devil Survivor but replacing the demons with digimon.

That's a sorta nice review, but there's a couple of things a gotta point out.

Training is hardly necessary in this game, in fact, trianing is detrimental, my second run I trained exactly 4 times through ALL of it.
Through battles, regular ones, which take no time as opposed to the 1 hour training does, you can get stronger much faster than training, especially if you invest points into the Learning Tamer skill tree.

And while yes, you'll most likely get stuck with anime evolutions the first time around, once you recruit Leomon, which can be done as soon as chapter 2, albeit after a rather lenghty (Took 1 & a half in-game days here) sidequest, that won't be much of a problem.

Once you rank up his facility, the evolution dojo, to rank 2, you can block unwanted evolutions. Your digimon simply won't digivolve into anything as long as you want it.

Plus, ne0 prioritizes the top evolutions yes.
Except, it prioritizes even more the top UNKNOWN evolution, assuming you reached multiple requirements.
Which means that if you train a Gabumon to reach all requirements, on it's first generation it would evolve into Garurumon, but then it wouldn't again until he's also evolve into each evolution at least once.

>The number of useful techs in the game is low. Generally your optimal strategy is to equip each Digimon with only one or two of its most damaging possible Techs, and you never need to order them to use those.
Also wrong, unless you're overpowered.
Buff skills carried me through my Hard mode speed run, and if not for them some Coliseum matches are un-winnable if you're unlucky, because the enemies DO use them.
Plus, every attack in the game has a startup animation and cooldown, some, like ThunderStorm, are pretty much instant on both ends,. Digimons usually wait a bit after using a move to use it again, but if you spam orders, they'll go full gattling with these moves.

Omegamon Zwart was created for the Digimon Card game, Digimon Jintrix years before Next 0rder so really we only got two new forms and not new Digimon. Next 0rder was super rushed though, to answer your question. I hate how half the Digimon are recolours.

I want to see more perfects too. To be fair in the last couple of years we got all the Aegiochusmon, Seirenmon, CaptainHookmon, Savior Hackmon, and maybe the new Meicoomon for Part 3 of Tri.

I can't wait to see what kind of Digimon Appmon brings us. They need to do something that just brings us shittons of new Digimon of all levels. And judging from the preview images it looks like we might have a lot of new monsters to look forward too.

I actually didn't mind it in Frontier. The Ancient Digimon were all actually Ultimates and were the origin of the Spirits so at least the Spirit Digimon were connected to the original system in some way. The Spirits were a unique gimmick for Digimon so it was a way to distinguish the children using the power to become a Digimon and regular Digimon. Plus the human Digimon seem like they could be Adults and the Beast Digimon seem like they could be perfects, and the hybrids seem like they could be ultimates. .In fact, D'arcmon's line goes from Human, Beast, to combination of beast and human like the spirits even though she was a normal Digimon.


Xros Wars annoys the shit out of me though because when they're not fused together they look like normal Digimon. The worst offenders are the ones who won the contest when the last season was airing because they look like classic Digimon and I love them to death for it, but without levels they don't really fit anywhere. They never got actual Xros forms or even "Xros Ups" besides one off gags at the end of the episode for some so what was the point?

The armour Digimon are a big offender of this too but nobody seemed to mention it. At least they appear Magnamon is a Royal Knight and they're used in the background of a lot of series so they'll never be forgotten about I was so happy we even got to see Rapidmon in Cyber Sleuth, I wish we had more than just Fladramon and Magnamon.

Bandai tried that with Tamagotchi and ended up releasing two versions (P1 and Angel) years ago but ended up pulling them from the app store for some reason... Only for them to come back years later, after the abortion that was their Tamagotchi L.I.F.E. campaign was all but dead. I think Bandai are just idiots and don't understand how to properly promote and handle their old franchises at all. I mean for fuck's sake the Tamagotchi app still has the exact same glaring and unavoidable glitches it had years ago.

They probably looked at their Tamagotchi initiative bombing and thought "Well, Tamagotchi has a much wider and casual appeal than Digimon so if that couldn't make it then Digimon doesn't stand a chance". When in reality Digimon arguably has a wider appeal than Tamagotchi at this point. People remember Tamagotchi as that virtual pet fad from the 90's and the short rebirth with Connexion/Connection but Digimon is a multimedia franchise that is still around somehow. I'm a huge virtual pet fan, especially of Tamagotchi, but Digimon has much more to it than just taking care of it to get a good character. There's a competitive level to it that would really lend itself to a mobile format where they could feasibly stick every Digimon from the various virtual pets in there, add new ones, and tweak the mechanics a bit so it could have an updated competitive scene... But that would actually require work and caring a little. A well made Digimon app could easily print money, especially if they gradually released different generations of Digimon so people can keep coming back to raise new ones.

To me it always felt like Digimon was an improvement on Tamagotchi, even if it was meant to be a spinoff or "boys" Tamagotchi. I mean Ban Dai even used the same technology in their Osutchi and Mesutchi Tamagotchi later.
I love my little Tamagotchi collection but one of my biggest regrets is choosing to collect them over Digimon when I was younger because Digimon where so cheap I figured when I got more money I could just buy all the ones I wanted in one fell swoop. I remember a specific lot that I was looking at probably over a decade ago that had (I think) one or two from every generation of the original Japanese V-Pet in package and I passed because it was slightly more expensive than buying the two Tamagotchi I wanted after shipping.
