maybe it's because the pace i play the game but balmung has *literally* reignited my desire to even continue playing this garbage ass mmo when i could just go prep for hardcore legion prog or something because wow pve still fucking decimates this games shit content even if wow is a shadow of what it used to be

the social aspect on balmung is 1000000x better, the people i've surrounded myself with are significantly more fun, everything is just more interesting here. the PF in regards to doing random stupid content is a bit less active but i'm very insular anyways

the vg ls on gilgamesh died a little after heavensward release imo, people started becoming more and more cliquey/circlejerky and nobody did pretty much anything there. it just wasn't a very enjoyable place to be, i struggled to find any reason to do... anything there.

before anyone calls me on it i realize that i'm basically in a circlejerk ls or whatever but at least people play games and have fun together in it

that said if you want to be a super sicknasty hardcore raider then gilg is absolutely leagues leagues LEAGUES better than the trash on balmung. but if you're anything less than that i'd say balmung is a much better choice. i don't even ERP or RP and i still love it here

It's called hyperbole. Much like your 'dead server' remarks, except I suspect you mean that wholeheartedly. Since I wasn't very clear before, allow me to elaborate. I like quiet servers. I don't want to go to a mining/hunting spot and see more than one, maybe two other people out there. A 3-5 man fate is ideal. I'm in a cozy FC on Jenova that does raids and shit on the weekends, passes out gil, has !random rolls for mounts and minions. Everyone is treated the same regardless of FC rank. If someone needs something they just ask and if it's not too outrageous someone else will get it/make it. We randomly party up for fates or grinding. We're a family, we're tight, and we have fun. As for the "lots of couples" thing, it means just that. There are a lot of couples who play together on Jenova, from what I've seen. Actual, real-life dating/married couples. Loads of 'em.

Malboro I have a little less experience with as Jenova is my main server. It's a little less lively. People are still generally pretty nice, even if they don't talk as much. Lots of crafters. There's an FC, Black Market. Pretty much runs the economy. They're not accepting applications right now. I'm not currently in an FC there, although I have my eye on a couple. Used to be in one a couple years ago, they were pretty cool but they disbanded.

I played all of 2.x and loved it and completed all of the raids pre-echo.

Come 3.x I didn't enjoy Alexander at all as I felt normal mode took all of the excitement out of raiding savage, but I greatly enjoy the class changes and the general world of the game.

there's some new stuff but it's nothing crazy. you've already seen the meat of the effects and skillnames in the fights through normal mode, and it removes some of the cool mystery and whatnot that you'd get if normal mode didn't exist. even just getting to see what the next boss was was a neat experience in coil, but that's not really there anymore with alex
