I see.

GT pumps use mining pipes and can be at safe levels away from water
but the old system was strange in other ways. electric machines spontaneously start burning under rain, but never actually explode unless they have >= 1 EU in them

but the new system in GT6 should be pretty forgiving. they won't explode immediately; instead you'll get a bit of warning time with fake explosions in case you spill water all over your hot or electric stuff

I think it's a good change. it was one of those strange inconsitencies that didn't make sense

>>
>>143697717
They're good enough, at least in my opinion. M&B's regular shields are pretty weak compared to dual wielding TiCon weapons, TD's shields fixes that.
The shields aren't completely broken like TiCon's crossbows, but they're still a reliable choice if you want to go sword and board. I personally enjoy switching between sword and shield and 2x sword from time to time.

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention, make sure you get the Tinkers' Defense 1.3, previous versions aren't even worth bothering with.
>>
>>143699174
I can only find V1.2.1 of Tinker's defense.

But my main idea was to play as a paladin-ish character. So I would be using the big hammer and combine it with a shield and then just mow down zombies and skeletons left and right.

>and if you happen to have TiCon you'll just get generic-looking TiCon tools/weapons and the unique sprites also go out the window, not to mention you'll be killing zombies and skeletons with the medieval hand-held equivalent of a nuclear warhead
Why do people install this again? In theory it already sounds poor, being a "moar ores" mod turned up to 11, but good fucking god the execution manages to be even worse.

The least they could've done is introduced alchemy too, to convert all these useless OC ores to useful ores.

Blightfall included the mod and TRIED to make it useful. It did this by letting you trade the shitty ores for other items so it was pretty much a huge waste.

Also if you have TE in the same pack along with TiCon, Shiny is literally better than every metal and alloy in Metallurgy, apart from a couple of super rare ones that are on par. Shit is useless.

>They'd be so nice as an alternative to my overhead piping

Long-distance, yes. Short distance, not really. If you're working inside of 15 chunks, just use the pipes. There's too much track needed to fuck around with trains at such a short distance.

Now long-range hauling like we had with Trainserb's first oil operation is where trains really shine over pipes. At that point the trains are definitely easier to use and cheaper.

'Course you have to know what you're doing, somewhat. The first trains you're able to build won't be powerful enough to move more than 2 cars full of liquid at decent speeds, leaving you open to mob attacks if you ride in it.
>>
Anyone wanna play a pack together and chill? Got nothin' to play tonight
>>
>>143702568
Someone who plays with Metallurgy probably doesn't care about minmaxing through, otherwise they'd just stick with crossbows, which don't need any more mods to be overpowered.

And Shiny is also included in Metallurgy anyway, since it's just Platinum with another name because the TE devs are too anal about the metals' names, just like Ferrous is Nickel and Tinker's Alloy is Bronze.

Most people will tell you to use MultiMC, since you can build your own pack from scratch with ease on it.
>>
>>143721297
i use multimc for modpacks that are exclusive to curse.
i'm still retarded with mods so i don't know how to make my own mod pack and what mods are essential and what i'll have fun with
>>
>>143721423
Best suggestion for you then is to play one of the kitchen sink packs, like Infinity. See what you like and what you don't like, then go from there.

Don't let assholes tell you what's fun and not fun, judge for yourself. If fun for you is building a cozy little cabin and living things as rustic as you can, then I'm confident that there's a pack for you. If you want to have access to everything at any time while still having a "survival" feel, you'll probably find mods for that. Magic? Tech? Nature? Go fucking nuts.
>>
>>143721423

Everybody has probably played a modpack once in their time. If playing someone else's idea of "fun" is enjoyable to them, then by all means let them suck that cock.

In all seriousness, you tell someone to make their own modpack for their first experience and they'll get overwhelmed and shut down. Spoon-feeding an experience to them is the best way to get them hungry for something custom. Though the big packs are always good for servers since it's just easy to make sure everybody's on the same versions.

>>143722518
Nah, i've found that I work better alone. Wish you the best of luck though.

This isn't surprising at all when you consider how many of these devs unironically were on Steam's side during the paywalled mods Skyrim fiasco and how few of them were even alive during the old times where modding was a pastime driven by passion.
Truth is, we were doomed the second this pennypinching shit started working and became the norm, which forces these people to grow up in an environment surrounded by other pennypinchers, never being given a chance to know any better.

But then again you can't really blame them when Mojang increases their workload by requiring them to babysit their mod instead of finishing the vaporware that is the official modding API.

Why are touhou songs all the same?
They're all in 4/4 time. They all have a top melody with notes no more than 2 steps apart on the scale, no jumps. Using this melody, they follow an ABA* pattern with the "chorus" coming in regularly and then at the very end they loop back around so the songs can be looped seamlessly.
In the background, the harmony syncopates with 8th and 16th notes playing near constantly to make the song sound more active, with regular segments of 32nd notes. But the background notes never actually harmonize in a waveform sense, they're just there to provide a beat and sound fast.
>>
>>143762749
isn't touhou a bullet hell game or something?
maybe they all sound the same because they wanted a common sound for them in the game/s, were lazy when making the game music, or both
>>
>>143762959
Yes, they all have the same composer. It just triggers me when people listen so much to Touhou music when they all have similar chord structures, half of them are in C minor and the rest of what I said above. Like if you're going to listen to weeb shit at least branch out.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Curse operates on a "need to know" basis, leaving everyone who doesn't matter to their "grand scheme" in the dark, especially those who aren't under NDAs. It isn't the least bit surprising considering their shifty record.

REDSTONE PUZZLE TIME

Here's a circuit I made. It pulses the right side to extend the piston, and the left to retract. The red block pulses if you try to move the piston when it reaches the block, or when it retracts all the way. So when you push the button, it goes out to the block, comes back, and turns everything off.
Pictured are 2 T-flipflops, 2 AND gates, a NOT gate and a timer.

Here's the puzzle: Design this same circuit using only 4 redstone gates instead of 6. Have it start with a button and stop itself after one cycle just like the other one.
My solution only includes gates I used in the first one, but you can use anything included in redpower.

yeah, you CANT safely move TEs, it's just not something that's supported.
that said, it's fine for most tile entites, but for others you can get all kinds of funny bugs down to lag or world corruption.
tldr; never move complex mod blocks like cables machines pipes etc. you have to break them and place them again manually.

>no applied energistics
>tesseracts and their kin disabled (Ender chests in, but reduced to 9 slots)
>immersive engineering machines buffed (veins less common but more bountiful, generators stronger, no cable falloff, etc)
>few "magic" mods

Anything else?

Here's a question
If I jam an AE2/ExtraCells interface against a TC smeltery controller, or some other kind of block melter, is there anyway I can set up liquid crafting?

Alternatively, can I reverse that and take something that uses liquids, like the Fluid Transposer, stick the interface against that, and craft from liquids?
>>
>>143806720
extracells has a fluid assembler.
which uses liquids in the system to craft crafting table recipies.
and more than that and it's impossible without maybe level emitter faggigery.
I believe that logistics pipes can do it though.
>>

Logi pipes should, using sattelite pipes. Hell, you can even use solid ingots into the controller.

but... but... m-muh realisms! muh balunse!

the whole mod is built on the idea that "stupidly complex and obtuse is realistic". it's wavered around in just how stupid; for a while the devs went out of their way to make it a gigantic pain in the ass to find iron, for example.

streamlining and making things useful would be against the ideas they're trying to attach to. instead they want every world to be a new puzzle to make you want to wring their necks over.

Okay MCG, help me theorycraft for a little.

How far under the floor can a MFR Sewer be to pick up experience orbs? Or is there some other way to pick up experience without interfering with mob spawns? I figure I can use that Ender Collector to grab the drops through the floor, and Diamond Spikes as a way to kill faster than an MFR Grinder. But I'd like the Experience orbs, for reasons. If a Vacuum Hopper can grab the orbs through the spikes, that'd be fantastic, but I doubt it'd work like that.

This is probably the final piece of the puzzle for me to really get the drops flowing like water with this spawner system.

Also it's a height thing; Colder biomes (Taiga, Extreme hills, etc.) form ice at higher altitudes. The way I usually build an ice tray is with wood; Make a 9x9 platform high up in the sky, put a rim around it, and put a 2x2 of blocks in the middle. Slabs on top of everything so it can stay dark, and a ring of slabs overlapping the tray so it refills itself when harvested.

You can always resize to how you want, though making it out of wood is a good idea with an efficency and silk touch pick.

>Etymology

>The various names all derive from its elemental presence in alum. The word comes into English from Old French, from alumen, a Latin word meaning "bitter salt".[81]

>Two variants of the name are in current use: aluminium (pronunciation: /ˌæljʊˈmJniəm/) and aluminum (/əˈluːmJnəm/). The obsolete word was alumium. The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) adopted aluminium as the standard international name for the element in 1990 but, three years later, recognized aluminum as an acceptable variant. The IUPAC periodic table now includes both spellings.[82] IUPAC internal publications use the two spelling with nearly equal frequency.[83]

>The aluminum spelling is used in the Webster's Dictionary of 1828. In his advertising handbill for his new electrolytic method of producing the metal in 1892, Charles Martin Hall used the -um spelling, despite his constant use of the -ium spelling in all the patents[76] he filed between 1886 and 1903.

IRC. To sum up, Lex has complained about huge chunks of the API's design, including some of the most important parts, while providing no input on what to replace them with. The MCMP dev now seems demotivated, so even if it makes it in, it will take much longer than "a week".

Most other modders in the IRC recommended that he just stop trying and leave it as it was.

No. Just a common, fast API for multiparts. Any and all content would be other mods.

>>143878167
Because Lex, in addition, told him that he should try to do it all in a week - so that the multipart API can make the Recommended Build for 1.9.4. (Admittedly, he gave that quote before he gave the critique).

We all worked on it (I ported Charset to amadornes's pull request branch, amadornes talked to Lex, everyone else anticipated nervously and/or adapted their mods for MCMultiPart) hoping that it wouldn't take long, but now it seems the process will take forever.

I'm not sure why I'm still modding Minecraft. Many of us seem to ask ourselves that question. Apparently, AlgorithmX2 is now working on his own game too, but I don't have any more information.

what I'm not sure of is why you lot keep trying to prevent people from making an effort to create an alternative to forge so people who are fed up with lex's shit can begin causing a shift away from it.

because at this point, it's pretty clear that the problem is lex, and lex has maneuvered things to ensure he can't be seperated from forge.
if having to deal with lex makes people not want to mod, then the answer is to work towards modding not involving lex.
>>
>>
>>143884203
Yes.
>>
>>143884448
Nobody is preventing one from doing so (well, except for MCP not granting mapping redistribution rights to anyone but Forge - but that's not "you lot", that's two-three people). I mean, Meddle exists, NOVA existed briefly (although with a small dependency on Forge - but it was designed so that it could be removed at any time), MagicMojoModLoader (Cuchaz's M3L) exists. It's just that the kind of person who would want to devote time to create an entire modding API from scratch, complete with new mappings, will likely move on to make their own game - it's not that much more effort.
>>
>>143884203
What is there to discuss?
>>
>>143884649
Also, how do you expect an alternative to catch on if it doesn't run all the popular mods? Look at 1.8, or 1.9, or if you're biased against those versions the tale of Minecraft 1.3.2-1.4.5, or 1.5 before RedLogic came along.

>>
>>143885118
It won't work. People have called Lex out more than once, but unless someone says "Okay, we're going to use this and remove our dependency on Forge", people will just shout, shout and move on to the next shiny thing.

Meddle is a good start, but from what I heard FyberOptic isn't interested in becoming the next Forge. It is, however, essentially the scope of ModLoader - so you could build an API on top of the Meddle loader, just like Forge built itself on top of ModLoader at first.

The only thing I hate about Metallurgy is the fact it replaces iron in the overworld, which I shouldn't need to mention literally every mod demands several shittons of, with piles upon piles of Madeupite and Uselessium.

Maybe I should consider mustering up my autism to customize the oregen to make vanilla ores spawn in large veins, so it isn't affected much by Metallurgy ores sprinkling themselves around the world to be used as early game armor/tools/etc.
>>
>>143910702

Add Mithril to your overworld; it'll ore dictionary to Mana ingots within Thermal Expansion.

Past that, all the good stuff (Sanguinite, Amordine, Inolashite) is Nether. Celenegil gets a good nod for an overworld material for its use with Tinker's; Good durability, great handle bonus, and decent mining speed.

Command blocks an option?

Select 1-high area of where the stairs will be. Then make a 3-Command Block chain with the following commands:

>//contract 1 (direction towards top of the stairs)

Add a button and run it as you need it to go up.

So if a free set of mappings existed, all you would have to do is:
1. Create a tool that converts an existing codebase to those mappings, by fully obfuscating it to a particular minecraft version with mcp mappings and deobfuscating with yours.
2. Run the Forge patchset through that tool, and create a fork based on the result.
3. Convince modders to convert or release translated builds.

Is that right?
