When the BoT goes just right edition

Previous Pantokrator >>142522107

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based strategy game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a strategy game.

1998 is the number of that monster, in this case a Fossil Warrior. In modding if you want to refer to that creature you use number 1998. Each monster has two sprites, the regular and the attacking sprite. The _1 indicates this is the regular sprite.

This Global makes any unit capable to walk UW. I have never tried to use it for recruiting some throne-mage UW, though. But as far as I know, you can recruit them even in UW normally, but they'll die the same turn smashed by the weights of water above.
So, this Global must have to help.
>>
>>143153268
Actually you can't even recruit non-waterbreathing units underwater. One suggested fix was to give each throne with recruitables an UW version - as you would only see either the land or sea version depending on where the throne spawned.

But of course UW can't have nice things so instead they get nothing.

I was intending to extend to 48 relatively soon anyway, so not much of an issue.

On another note, if anyone wants to sub into a likely doomed Abysia or Marverni, feel free to ask. Both have more provinces than Arco at any rate. Otherwise they will be left to stale - setting them AI is often worse imo. If I notice those two are the only ones remaining to put turns in though, I will be autohosting.

Turn 70.jpg
321KB, 1397x862px
Yesterday R'lyeh made a post about this game and I went ahead and totaled up all the losses from the battles in just this one province so I thought I'd share a little story for those of you that are interested.

First to set the stage, this is the turn as it was when shit hit the fan. For context, the game is 5 victory points to win and Agartha already has 4. Regardless, I was fairly confident in my position because I believed that Agartha did not possess any significant far-strike capabilities and so if he did make a move for his 5th capitol I could see his army and prepare to intercept.

Clearly I was wrong about his capabilities. I forgot all about the very existence of The Flying Ship until Agartha dropped an army on the poorly-defended fort under Ragha's control. Somehow I missed having a scout in that province so unfortunately I didn't have exact intel on the army composition but based on Agartha's recently lightning fast capture of Marignon I was sure he would be able to siege and storm the castle in one turn. That means just one turn to prepare a counter attack or we'd instantly lose the game.
>>

1_1 Rlyeh v Agartha.jpg
178KB, 1409x862px
R'lyeh and I immediately convened to hash out a panicked all-in strategy to try to push Agartha off the fort. I even pulled my preachers back to keep from domkilling Ragha, who I had just managed to get down to 1 candle left. Even if our efforts were futile then just maybe the defender inside the castle would have a chance.

This was R'lyeh's contribution. Everything he could muster and teleported into battle. The golems did a remarkable job of holding the line against Agartha's undead, slowly and painfully carving through the coldres 30 units with Frost Brands. Neither side had much in the way of evocations from what limited mage corps the could bring to the battle so once the big battlefield globals went off it was just a slow meatgrinder in the middle.

Our first look at the enemy. Smaller than the scouting report, though we knew we were dealing with the limited capacity of the Flying Ship. Agartha does have a few more mages hidden among the Giant Eagles in the back but again this was mostly a battle of the chaff.

An interesting note, both sides brought a Staff of the Storms to the battle.

The results of the first battle. Agartha's retreat was cut off by 4 squadrons of my imps and the battle ultimately ground out till the turn limit so R'lyeh lost everything that wasn't amphibious. It was a very close call, too. Only a few more Eagles and one more Enchantress were left on Agartha's side of the battle with the golems closing in on them before they all started falling apart.

I've compiled a list of the resources lost by all three nations from all the battles in this province this turn and it is rather shocking.

R'lyeh:
587 Astral Pearls
309 Nature Gems
238 Air Gems
148 Water Gems
109 Earth Gems
20 Fire Gems
5 Death Gems
1045 Gold

Agartha:
387 Death Gems
171 Air Gems
153 Water Gems
130 Earth Gems
95 Nature Gems
51 Fire Gems
47 Astral Gems
30 Blood Slaves
3427 Gold
2 Cap recruitment turns
1 Prophet
Aseftik's Armor
Krupp's Bracers
Sceptre of Dark Regency
Twin Spear
The Flailing Hands
Bell of Cleansing
Tome of Gaia

Abysia:
59 Blood Slaves
52 Fire Gems
3 Death Gems
570 Gold
2 Cap recruitment turns

My first contribution to the war effort, though by now the almost shameful lack of necessity is clear. Knowing that Agartha would be casting Army of Gold and that I would be attacking with Fire Elementals and Fire Storm in the normal movement phase I wanted to take every opportunity to drain his gem supply hoping that he wouldn't have fire resistance.

So I teleported in an undefended mage and left him to die.

Not yet knowing the full extent of R'lyeh sacrifice I was expecting him to be torn apart but all that was left was one Enchantress. I wish I had scripted my Warlock a bit now but ultimately he just got torn apart by the Bottle of Living Water elemental.

She actually picked up a lot of goodies from the battlefield in addition to the bottle. Might be a fearsome warrior in her own right if she weren't afflicted with Dementia and Blindness from R'lyeh's Solar Brilliance.

R'lyeh's second foray into the breach! As the very last ditch of last ditches he collected his store of Bottles of Living Water and threw them on what commanders he could muster in the immediate vicinity of Man. Their goal was to toss just a little bit more damage at whatever was left after the first strike, though you've seen already just how little that was.

3_2 Rlyeh v Agartha.jpg
273KB, 1409x862px
A little bit more than expected, however. A second Enchantress just flew in and boy are her legs tired. She's carrying with her a pair of Winged Shoes,a Thistle Mace, and the Tome of Gaia. She died just as quickly as her more beleaguered of course and R'lyeh suffered no losses in this battle.
>>
File: 4_1 Abysia v Rlyeh.jpg (235KB, 1409x862px) Image search: [Google]
4_1 Abysia v Rlyeh.jpg
235KB, 1409x862px
And then I finally show up. I was quite distressed by the lack of options I had with which to assault Agartha's forces at Man. The vast majority of my demons were more than a day's flight away and I had a lot of otherwise useful mages either too far away or in transit and not sitting in a lab. Still, I mustered what I could, figuring I'd be the final nail in the coffin and keep Agartha from winning for at least one turn longer.

The plan here was Fire Storm and a lot of Fire Elementals. Naturally not the best possible decision versus Army of Gold but it was either that or Earthquake. I figured that earthquake would not only have a hard time getting through Fog Warriors but it would also harm my own army. I wanted my blockers up as long as possible to get as much damage over time as I could.

Geryton and a Vampire Lord were up front to cast Wither Bones, though as it turns out they didn't actually have any undead to target.

4_3 Abysia v Rlyeh.jpg
266KB, 1409x862px
You've seen R'lyeh's army here, just imagine them facing to the left this time.

This was a bit disappointing but rather representative of my previous attempts to use Fire Elementals this game. I can spam out a ton at a heavy cost to fire gems and then the enemy dies before they make any real impact. The Imps cut through R'lyeh and he routed just before the elementals could make contact.

4_4 Abysia v Rlyeh.jpg
424KB, 1409x992px
He managed to escape with about half his Bottles of Living water; it was hard to keep track of which specific commander retreated and which died.

So, Agartha's plan to sneak in a win was foiled and I've got a long, difficult war ahead of me. Luckily I suffered significantly fewer losses than the other two players in this game and I've got very deep blood access. The game is far from over, but I went from panic to confidence pretty quickly.

>all the Shard Wights were summoned by a D9 Tomb Oracle
Ah, yeah, I generally just went with the lowest caster level for the summoning spells. There were a lot of things I kind just guessed on so that ended up as the top end, really. I also ignored any forging bonuses which would probably shave some gems off both lists. D9 casting Hall of the Dead would save something like 75-100 Death gems so that's a pretty big difference.

And yeah for some reason I thought I saw H4 on your tomb oracle but clearly not.

>>
>>143182708
Currently it adds 4 recruitable units to the MA nations he listed above. Each of these units has a specific forgeable item (e.g. frost brand).

It's a bit silly using it in the current unfinished state, since the item units aren't meant to be available so early or so easily. Right now you can spam many of the units from every fort, starting from turn 1.

Ya know, I probably would be so much more okay with the mod if the itemunits were tied to construction levels.

Is that in the order you listed them? i.e. NoBully Mictlan and PoL Ulm? I'm in both those games as Patala and Arco respectively. I'm dying in both, as you probably well know. I'm also in a situation like yours irl where with finals/research papers coming up I cannot focus on Dominions at this moment. In both games, take what you can from me. That goes for anyone else in those games who border me.

I'm getting burned out of Dominions anyway. I'll probably be fresh and ready to play again once All Tomorrow's gets running (if it gets running). Alternatively, probably in the summer.

Fire brands are construction 4
>>
Hay birds, what's all this then?
>>
>>143198414
Fire Brands are priced at 10 gems, and are an exceptionally good item.

Unit mod effectively prices firebrands at 35 gold. If you sell Fire Brands at that price, you're insane. I'd also like to do business with you more often.
>>
>>143199218
The only unit that uses fire brands are the cap only Anakites in the mod
>>
>>143199564
. . . . . . which are still priced at 35 gold per fire brand. Which is still bonkers.

I understand item mod takes Zheyadans as the bottom line of power, but come on.

Sry, there's a resource difference of 4. So 35 gold and 4 Resources.
>>
>>143200348
There you go, 150 gold and 95 resources for a fire brand.
>>
>>143199218
>Unit mod effectively prices firebrands at 35 gold
They're fixed to a specific unit and set of gear. A fire brand is far more valuable on a SC or thug than just on a unit, because you have more scripting options and because you can give it other gear.

A constructed fire brand can also often be reused if the wielder gets afflicted or dies in a fight you won, which is not the case with these troops.
>>
>>143200575
I guess the giant with great stats wielding it pops out of the fucking ether? You selling those for free now?
The chassis is very clearly priced at 115 gold. Maybe there's some minute changes there, but not enough to warrant too much, and they all made the Gehenna chassis EVEN BETTER!

So which do you want, 35 gold fire brands, or 0 gold giants? Both are absolutely fucking bonkers.
>>
>>143200906
I can agree with this, and if the price was say, 100 effective I might call it fair play. That's 10 gold per gem, but the gems aren't being used in the most effective way, so w/e.

But 3.5 gold to effective gem is crazy. Or construction 9. If you needed construction 9 for those, I'd be so okay with the price. Is it stupid? Oh yeah. Is it dumber than Army of Gold/Lead? No.
>>
>>143200913
That's not how pricing works. If I offer to add double sandwich meat for 50 cents extra, that does not mean you can buy only the meat for 50 cents more without buying the sandwich.
>>
>>143201070
Eh, there's a certain point where it has to be useful. Thugs are supposed to fast and mobile, and scripted a certain way. Troops are clunky and harder to work with.
There are much powerful things that cheaper mages can do at level 9 research than a unit at that cost.
>>
>>143201141
If you're going to be difficult on this, I can just go to the Golden Arbalest shit. Ya know, the Rec anywhere, 3!!! Gold per Gem (even if inefficiently spent, YES PLEASE) dude.

Though the fact that you're arguing that Sacred Firebrand wielding giants for 150 gold, which make Ragha sacreds look tame, are okay, is pretty funny.
>>
>>143201476
Yeah but no one forges golden arbalests anyways.
>>
>>143181952
I'll just sign up as Oceania then.
>>
>>143201318
Such as? I can't find a single mage (for the price of 150 gold sacred, or around 120 gold for a nonsacred) that matches 20 attacks (keeping in mind Enc 5) of unbuffed 17 atk, 34 AP damage, with the usual Firebrand proc.
>>
>>143201658
I'd forge the everliving shit out of them for that price, considering that it's a 90% discount, and takes no mage turns.
>>
>>143201946
Well any E3 or F3 mage can cast firestorm or earthquake. A few low level S mages can spam stellar cascades and shut down large numbers of units.
>>
>>143201070
>>143201476
What's with this obsession with gold-to-gem ratios?

I'd even fucking agree that the firebrand and arbalest troops are too strong, but framing it this way is just dumb.

There are other units in the mod with even better gold-to-gem ratios which aren't half as ridiculous, the issue clearly isn't how much each gem of equipment 'costs'.
>>
Funny thing is that arbalests and fire brands cost the same amount of gems and research but not one forges the first one

I suppose those also cost some hilariously low amount of gold? Or does Unit Mod have mages that come with those for free, I didn't check.

I guess the fact that no F3 is 150 or less gold is also solved by them coming with a 5 gold cost flame helmet or something?

What are the scrying spells besides Scrying Pool? I know there has to be one for Astral but are there any more? Furthermore, is there a way I can search this on the inspector? Usually I just look up something that has the attribute I want then search for that attribute but the Scrying Pool spell didn't have a "scry" tag or anything.

>>143203980
I didn't move the goal posts a single inch. You tried to bring in free 20 gem items, and failed to give a single example of a mage of that price beating out the Gehenna. And I've seen so many people lost because they cast all the battlefield buffs, but so did their opponent, and their opponent is fielding demon knights/green lions/dust warriors/etc while they have chaff. The 2nd Army of Lead just doesn't do much.

>>143204062
This guy on the other hand. Firestorm is nice and all, but Firestorm doesn't stack with Firestorm. They CAN however Phoenix Power into some pretty nice Pillars of Fire and Flame Storms, so I'll concede that Adepts of Pyriphlegeton are a better use of 150 gold. If you have the right throne/site ofc.
>>
>>143204431
They're weak people. Maybe they need more calcium?
>>
>>143204656
They can also cast Living Fire, which is basically 5 ethereal guys with fire brands.
>>

C'tis, Asphodel, Nazca . . .
>>
>>143204790
Phoenix Power -> Living Fire with an F3 should be 4 guys, but still, yeah. And they lack the initial 34 AP hit, which is the most valuable part for endgame (got to punch through 30 prot fuckers somehow). Ofc, Gehenna aren't ethereal, and the mage usually wakes up and does stuff afterward in the longer fights (sans Rigor Mortis being cast).

After playing in Armemegeddon and paying attention to Bats' diplomacy, here's what I've noticed. His profit isn't in making bad deals, he genuinely does make honest trades that are beneficial to both parties. However, here's the thing. Let's say that in each trade he gains 10 "value" and the other player gains 11. Well if he keeps that up he's going to be behind, right? But since he deals with as many people as possible it's more like he has 100 "value" and 10 other players have 11. That's his secret. He's not doing anything special. It's the general cageyness and mistrust between other players that he aggressively attacks and works around. Sure, it's not that hard to make a deal with a few people in your games but he really pushes it to the next level.
>>
>>143208492
It's also that deals inherently benefit the board leader more. Rule 1: Be cautious when making a deal with the board leader. Though apparently that's Niefel atm . . .

I'd argue though that giving Xib what he wants will never end up well.
>>
>>143208767
Honestly, you can argue that you should never give anyone what they want.
>>
>>143208991
My thesis is that by doing so, you inevitably fall behind the people who do trade. The only winning move is to trade the most.
>>
>>143208991
That's not true, since getting what you want is often valuable enough to warrent it.
The four rules of thumb to keep in mind are:
1: If somebody's soliciting trades with multiple people, they're benefiting like crazy and should be told to fuck themselves. Treat them the same way you would a known diplomonster.
2: Only a diplomonster proposes a trade they don't have good reason for. Always assume whoever proposed a trade stands to make a killing.
3: Always assume the worst regarding the enemy's capabilities. Proceed under the premise that the enemy has unlimited resources aside from the one thing they need from you to do something horrible. Don't give them anything unless you know what it's likely to be used for and how you'll beat it.
4: Trading, if you're not a retard about it, makes you stronger. Do it, but on your terms.

>>
>>143208991
There's no need to go that far, just be careful with who you're dealing with.

I even know of one case of a person outright giving gems/gold to an Agartha who was in a bad position, just so he'd keep the player invading him busy for longer. I don't know exactly how much it cost, but it changed the invasion from a quick and painless affair into a bloody mess, and basically took the invading player out of the running for victory.
>>
>>143209761
I've managed to secure a tiny amount of foreign support while trying to be a thorn in the side to a much larger threat. Wish I could milk it for more, honestly, since I've been buying them over a year of peace by this point.
>>
>>143208492
Very astute! You can't run a business if you don't actively do business after all. I learned my trade from both the Critique of Nicknight7, a master Diplomancer in his own right, and Trump's The Art of the Deal. Great guy, you'll love him, and a great book that is worth the read.

It is more than just making a lot of deals with a lot of people though. Some people have exactly what another person needs, but neither of them know to talk to the other. That is a big part of what I do, I get people with compatible goals working WITH one another to benefit both of them, and me. The more that people trade with each other, the more I trade with other people, and the stronger the economy gets through strong business practice and healthy competition.

It isn't going to make Oeridia Great if only I do well, everyone has to do well if we are going to build a better future for the Great map of Oeridia.
>>
I quite like bats! He's quite nice! And squids as well!
>>
>>143209517
I've already said it once before, back in Armemegeddon. If you don't like the worst case scenario of a deal attempt, then don't even go to the table to offer it. The thing is, the worst case Scenario of almost any attempt at a deal is not liking what you hear and not accepting it. Even if the majority of the offers I make are turned down, every single person in them got the full repercussions spelt out for them. I freely share what the gems I will be gaining from a trade are going to when people ask as well. Being transparent is very important to let people make decisions that will benefit them, and to know that it will not negatively impact them in the short/mid run.
>>
>>143209460
A strong idea, but I think you focus too much on the material aspects too much. I understand that you want to base it in concrete objects in the game so far as possible, but don't ignore the more immaterial assets of social capital.

>>143211289
Well, if I ask for Air gems (which I am actually looking for air gems, Chat me up if you have some to trade) and someone asks me, "what are you going to do with those Air gems?" I'll tell them exactly what I am going to do with them: I have no air income and only a single A1 mage, so I need to empower so I can sightsearch better with Auspex and actually get an Air income. I will most likely be making Feathers, or using call of the winds with later air income, or any leftovers from the trade.

See? Transparent, laid out right there. You can't run a country properly from the shadows. You can't build trust off of known unknowns and half truths. I want to work WITH the people I make deals with. Sure, I am going to make it the best deal for me, but I am not going to try to make a deal worse for *the other*. I don't deal with *others*, I deal with people, with great people that want to do as good for themselves as I do, and can work together with me and great people like me to make it happen.

If you can beat AI, you're probably not going to learn much from playing more singleplayer.

Keep an eye out here for a game which is looking for players, preferably something without mods, and join that using the llamaserver guide in the OP. Mention that you're joining the game here when you do.

I haven't kept track of which games are currently recruiting, so hopefully someone else can fill you in there.

Make sure that you can get 12 provinces in the first 12 turns with your chosen nation. More is better, ask here for advice if you're having trouble. I find it's good to decide on an initial research goal to work towards as well.

The first few turns may seem very slow, but don't join lots of games. As you get further into the game turns will take much longer and it's easy to get overwhelmed if you joined lots of games at the start.

Outside of that, you'll probably learn as you go. Just pay attention to why you're losing (if you're winning instead, good job!) and consider asking for advice once you've been defeated.

Thanks for the help. I've decided one or two games at the most since I've got studies to focus on. I'll look out for an open game with no mods. Does anybody actually use the steam-group/chatroom or is it all done here?

Also, any help for quickly taking provinces? I tend to take too long to build momentum.
>>
>>143218709
The Steam Chat Room that most people I know use is /v/anheim. That is where a lot of the talking and dealing happen, and there are constant Blitzes that occur if you have a few hours for a fast game against 2-4 other people.

As for faster expansion, it depends on what nation you are playing. Some need Awake Gods to expand properly, some need the right bless for their sacreds, some have jank strategies that they utilize. What nation(s) do you normally play?
>>
>>143218709
>Does anybody actually use the steam-group/chatroom or is it all done here?
Some games require you to sign up in the steamgroup, they'll mention it if needed. Most games recently have allowed anonymous signups, so you just need to show you're from around here by posting your intent to join.

The chatroom is mainly for people to hang out and chat about dominions or play blitzes. Sometimes people will get into the chatroom for diplomacy, but they usually go off to talk in private after they find each other.

>Also, any help for quickly taking provinces? I tend to take too long to build momentum.
Try to bring some raiding parties or thugs along. If there's a province which is only defended by PD, you can usually just send out a small group or a thug to grab it while your main army takes on the actual threats or sieges down forts. This way you can very quickly seize large amounts of territory to deny the income to your enemy and take it for yourself.

Flying or stealthy units are often good for raiding parties, since they can quickly move to wherever they're needed. However, a lot of nations don't have good flying/stealthy troops and just have to make do with normal soldiers.

Do expansion practice on a large map with a single AI, so you don't get unlucky and run into someone (or even get attacked).

There are some useful tricks, here's what I've found.

Try to take mountains or forests which are adjacent to your capital early. Forts gain a percentage of the resources of adjacent provinces, so taking those will let you produce more troops per turn. Wastelands (no resources) and plains (no resources, often have heavy cavalry) can wait for later.

Some of the indie types are much easier to beat than others, depending on your army. For example, lion/wolf/deer tribe are generally quite easy to beat, whereas heavy cavalry or elephants are very hard. If you remember which ones you have trouble with and avoid them, you can use fewer troops to take provinces.

Remember that there can be up to +-50% variation in the numbers you see in enemy provinces. If one province consistently comes up with low numbers of troops, it probably doesn't have many units there. Provinces with consistently high numbers of troops might need more troops than usual. Sometimes Heavy Cavalry/Elephants/etc won't show up, so be careful.

Avoid attrition in expansion parties. You want to lose very few units per province taken so your expansion parties can keep going as long as possible. If you're losing 20% or more of your expansion party, it probably needs more/different troops.

When you're actually in a multiplayer game, get mercenaries if you can. Remember that you're bidding against other people and may not actually get them (bids are refunded if you are outbid though), so only bid gold you're not able to spend on your own troops. I prefer to practice expansion without mercs, because you often get unlucky and are outbid in multiplayer.

Specific nation advice for Ermor and Marignon in next post.

>MA Marignon
They're a bit hard to expand with.

Blessed Knights of the Chalice work pretty well with a couple of production scales. Try N9E6 for them. 5 knights led by a friar (to bless them) can take on most indie provinces with no losses. You'll probably need to take a province or two with your starting army to provide resources, as the knights require a lot of them. Once you've done that, expansion should be easy.

When using knights I prefer to use the script in the picture. Put the priest as far back as possible with the knights close enough to bless but far enough so that arrows aimed at them won't hit the priest. The hold orders are so the priest won't run in after the knights as soon as he's done blessing them.

Another option is an awake earth serpent with E6. Use the snake to help take some provinces in your capcircle, and produce armies of pikeneers and crossbowmen to help your snake expand further. Remember to tell the snake to attack rather than leaving it with default script.

>EA Ermor
6-8 Equites with a W9 bless can take on most indie provinces without losses. Lead them with an acolyte to bless them, and use the same scripting as knights.

You could also take production scales and churn out lots of troops. Rosarus seem like the best option to me, but I haven't practiced expanding with Ermor much. Their starting army is pretty good, which should help get you started by taking a province or two.

An E6 earth snake is also an option, but you shouldn't need it in this case.
>>
>>143224048
Thanks, this is very helpful stuff.

This might seem like a very basic question, but what should be done with my pretender if they aren't a fighter? Is research ever an efficient use of them?
>>
>>143225079
It really depends what pretender you have.

Using them to cast rituals which scale with the caster level is often a good idea. You can use them to forge items which your other mages can't too.

If your pretender has some magic you don't get elsewhere, you can sitesearch with him.

If you're fighting a defensive war, using them in combat is a good idea. They're usually best used to cast spells, but sometimes you can kit them out for melee. Avoid using them offensively, as they suffer a number of penalties in enemy dominion.

If none of the above sound like good choices, set them to research.

Why is the order luck combo not recommended?

Also can EA Agartha do well focusing on a strong bless? Or is that more MA Agartha?
>>
>>143240605

It depends.
>>
>>143240605
Order and luck are anti-synergistic with each other since you want more events with luck but get less with order. There are a few very good events like free forts with order/luck scales though. EA Agartha can use a bless mainly due to sacred mindblasters, since pale ones are terrible, but it's not as good as on MA Agartha.
>>
>>143240976
What bless is good for EA agartha? I assume earth or blood as they are already quite tanky.

And for MA Agartha I imagine the statues would do good with nature to regenerate or blood or fire to kill stuff better.

>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXwWjxbzuIk
Is this what Victorious nations do against nations who are conquered?
>>
>>143243557
You'd probably get raped, but as long as you don't make it clear to everyone that you're new you (probably) won't get rushed right away.

The getting raped part is only natural though. Don't expect to win your first few games unless you manage to get a noob-only game going (and even then your odds won't be great). There are people here who've played dozens of games and have never won anything. There's no shame in that, it's just the nature of the game since there are many players and only one can win, so if you're below average in skill (either by being new or just sucking), your chances to win are extremely low.

I've been playing this game for more than 2 years and I only won like 5 games in all that time myself.
>>
>>143243773
I'll think about it then. I've only really messed around a little bit with Late Age. What's a decent nation that won't require me to get too technical with my magic or anything? I like EA Ermor and MA Marignon even though I'm no good with either. Man look interesting, are they a decent choice?
>>
>>143244049
Man are pretty solid. They have some of the best ranged units in the whole game, which can carry the entire early game for you and midgame as well as long as the enemy doesn't have counters like Storm or Arrow Fend. Their mages are extremely limited since the Magister Arcane is the only thing worth recruiting, but it's not a terrible mage since you can set them up for some Rain of Stone shenanigans and get some nice blasting and buffing going through communions.

Lategame they kinda run out of options other than just doing the same thing you've been doing all along except on a bigger scale, so you'll have to take that into consideration while designing your pretender. I like getting a decent amount of Death magic on their on their pretender since it opens up a lot of options.
>>
>>143244297
That sounds manageable but I might look further into this. How long does a game usually take to fill?
>>
>>143244370
It depends. Right now a lot of big games are still at midgame so it might take a while.

Games on /domg/ tend to come in waves, where a number of big games and around the same time so everyone starts looking for new games, which results in a number of big games being made and filled quickly, which then of course tend to end roughly around the same time as well and the cycle continues.

Do you have an advantage in resources? You might be able to wear him down with attrition if so.

If not, you're probably going to need to get some allies quickly.
>>
>>143315831
ayy baby, I have big dominion + have growth +3
>>
>>143313786
For starters, make the beginning of the war count. It's of course easier for elves/birds/bats/some non-elf stealth nations like Pangaea, but everyone should have tools to take more territory than you can with one doomstack. Not only can you split your big army and converge when necessary, but while an army moving along the border might raise suspicions and allow the enemy to prepare, a few death mages for example probably won't, and they can take provinces with skelly spam just like a modest army could. And that's not even considering remote attack spells, non-national thugs etc. A decisive multipronged takes away resources from the enemy while giving them to you, allows you to fight the first battles on defensive on territory that shouldn't have been yours to begin with (in some circumstances the defender's advantage is an enormous one), restricts enemy army movement and might allow you to see the enemy scripts and force composition if they recapture provinces you took in an initial assault. This is of course useful against player of any skill level, but if you aren't expecting to win direct army vs army engagements due to the opponent's better scripting ability and army composition, you must make sure you are at least winning the war of attrition.

Secondly, seek allies. If you know the player to be particularly capable, that's a reason to take them out early and you can point that out when forming a coalition. I think it's bad form to pick on notorious players just because of who they are, but the player's skill level is a factor in determining who is the biggest threat, and ganging up on the biggest threat is a very sound move.

And finally, you could ask tips for the specific nation vs nation matchup. If you think asking for help here would ring some alarm bells, you can always go to Dominions IRC or some other community that your opponent most likely doesn't follow or where they can't make a connection between you and the question.

>>143341163
If it's the mass skele you're worried about take a nation with native RoS/EQ casters. For lictors you want someone that can pump out fire elementals or I guess solar rays.
>>

Play sceleria, you should be able to outnumber him in undead and outmage his sacreds.

So, I'm now assisting "the mysterious unit mod maker" with his mod.

The item-units will be available at Const 1/3/5/7 respectively (one level above the item they weild). The site to build them will cost 4x the cost of one item, then +1 gem per turn you want it to stay active. A fort is needed for the forge to work, without a fort you can't build them. Ermor will have to use a death mage to enter the created site to get the units, rather than recruiting them for gold + Res.

Now, AMA.
>>
>>143347891
What magical gear is MA Xib getting? This is very important to nobody who matters.
>>
>>143347891
What paths are needed to cast the forge making spell? Same paths needed to forge the item, or somewhere above that?

How do you intend to make a spell that costs, say, 20F and 20E for firebrands?
>>
>>143347972
That's the part of the mod I have not usurped, though we're running out of different trinkets and lvl 2 stuff to give to people.
>>143348042
Same paths for now, might increase to +1 or a multiple of.
Primary path gets all the costs, unfortunately, a two part ritual to make such forges is possible technically but... Actually I might be able to do that.

Anyways, they're substantially worse, but hardly trash tier. There was a lot of room. They've been played in blitzes by at least three people now over several games, with varying strategies (Awake pretender, imprisoned bless) and had fine performance in at least 2-3 of those games.

Well, I finally got in the papers detailing the state of the Nation, and I got to say, there are still quite a few lawless lands around the map. Some places are even still run by indi's! I will be posting for full Transparency sometime before the next turn, like any good leader.
>>
>>143366481
I'm guessing:
Highest Income: Niefel
Highest Research: Sauro
Biggest Army: Lanka (Skellingtons OP)
Highest Gem Income: Hard to say, likely either Ulm, Niefel, or Xibalba
Most Forts: Niefel
Most Provinces: Niefel
Highest Dom: Probably still Lanka, tbf this one was already known.
>>
>>143366697
Well, I am not one to give away too many spoilers, but Ulm does in fact own the most province. Everything else is pretty spot on, though Ulm and Lanka are only in the top 5 for gem income.

We don't need new memes.
>>
>>143370207
We kind of do.

I mean what was even the last new meme that actually stuck around? "Pan was right" didn't even last long enough to become a real meme. Many of the meme images that are posted the most are like 2 years old now. We can't stay living in the past forever.

Stagnation is death.

Dominions plays and looks like a game that is 10 years old, we can live in the past.
>>
>>143370901
That's something we have no real choice in, as long as there's no good alternative. If there was a version of Dominions that kept the gameplay intact but had a more modern UI for example, I'd switch over in a heartbeat.

With the memes, we are the driving force. We can make a difference.

It's only 30 slots. 30 player games have happened several times before. The "hard" part is that you have to already know 2 other people that play Dominions or actually put yourself out there to chat up new people and put a team together from scratch.
>>
>>143388358
The only other 30 player game was All Yesterdays, and 3 people almost immediately staled/Ai'd (not counting Mictlan, who just got obliterated)

Flatus, Stalewarriors, and Memegeddon all were incapable of getting 30 players.

Xibalba claims to have 72 fire gems per turn.

Well then.
>>
>>143401106
I suppose that's nice, but who gives a shit about fire gems? They're by far and away the worst gem type, even blood slaves are more valuable. You don't freak out when somebody says them make 72 blood slaves per turn.

Xibalba will get EVEN MORE fire gems when he steals the sun.

I'd rather Nature, Death, Astral, Water, Air, or Earth. Fire is pretty fucking worthless once you're done researching.

72 gem/turn though is still fucking retarded, and likely is more than some others have period. And I seriously doubt his other incomes look bad, even if they aren't 72 fire per turn.

Hell, 72 fire per turn is probably more effective S per turn than most, if anyone, can manage, especially when added to his minimum 10 or so income from preset sites.

One paralyse that's suceeded can last 11 turns easy, and prot does nothing, nor MR after it fails the "does this do ANYTHING" check.

Basically, this is a reason why SCs are not the meta lategame, prefering armies in general.
>>
>>143418000
SCs are a perfectly normal part of the meta lategame, you scrub.
They're just not a solution to every problem.

Properly scripted mage support melts SCs. An army rigged to counter SCs loses to an equivalent army that's not wasting mageturns in combat. And of course, the army not set up to counter SCs loses to SCs.
>>
>>143418241
I was meaning not the entire meta, a la dom 3, not that they have no use at all, hence the later bit saying where amries were prefered in terms of trying to be unkillable doomrollers.

Also to say it's that simpistic in terms of rock paper scissors is even sillier, especially when many anti-SC spells work well against oposition armies as well.

>It's not worth it, is it?
Kind of. Hidden In Sand is remarkably better. Your skeles have less prot and more hp so they stack better with buffs and less prone to shit like destruction. They have heat power instead of dark power, so unless you're against one of three nations in your era who take cold 3 you're guaranteed +3 attack, strength, and defense. Either way they're incredibly powerful troops. They're a great way to shut down fire evocations with their ludicrous innate rFire.
Dust priests make pretty wicked thugs, F2D3E1 or S2FE1D3, great stats, and a good stack of hp.

At 75 gems it's not great, at 55 gems which is what most balance mods put it at, it's a fucking beast. I wish all summon spells were balanced at that standard. Summon Wights still seems pretty shit, even at 4 for 12, so three gems each, it's not that hot. It comes out really early so I think the solution would be to move Legion of Wights down to like, conj7 or 8 and make it summon 10 for 20, or move it down there and improve the scaling vastly.

Well, Time to start posting Graphs. I'm gonna start the Graphs off with what I believe to be perhaps the most important graph, At least until Late Game when everyone is done; The research Graph!

It looks to me like Sauro is doing what they do best, and blowing everyone out of the convention with their magical findings, while both Ermor and Fomoria are close behind, I suspect Feathers are really doing Fomoria a solid on that respect, while Ermor's amazing wealth (shown in a later chart) are definitely giving them a mage spamming edge. Niefel and Caelum are behind, but not out of the top5 - great guys both of them, let me tell you that we need more guys like these in our games. Great at keeping everything working smooth even in the face of hostilities - though thanks to the power of lightless lanterns, I am still in the running to break into top 5.

In the bottem half, we have Arco! Whom truly deserves at least a token meme of respect for playing the Greek Economic Growth idea to the hilt, with exactly 0 research until they AI'ed and no expansion or Dominion either (shown later). What saddens me though is that Agartha I feel should be higher on this graph, seems the caves are no joke for expansion, or that he just isn't getting the gems he needs. I will gladly sell you some Fire Gems Agartha if you need some.

Choose the Next Chart to be revealed!

How about # provinces?
>>
>>143443376
I take it you're on top of every other graph then? Considering you apparently have a lot to hide.

Betting his other gem incomes are just as absurd as his fire gem income apparently is.

Here we go! Provinces! Currently, in a surprising lead is Ulm, with a counted 76 Owned Provinces, 2 Maverni Forts being Sieged, and 11 more above ground provinces for him to take or retake from indi's, before you count the un-taken underground provinces (he is almost 1/3 the size of Agartha underground apparently). Next is, of course, the nation that should have been in first place especially after eating mictlan; The Great Trump Nation of Xibalba! Currently only 2nd place because I was able to take by the indi stolen provinces faster than Niefelheim, whom is 3rd place. Bringing up 4th place is actually Sauro, with all that extra freedom granted by Arco not expanding until they went AI. Lanka is rocking 5th place and is very likely to take the #4 spot if they get to move their troops up to take Abysia in the next few turns.

Once again, lagging behind everyone in the charts is Greek Economy Arco, whom showed bad form by taking a single province back in the early turns of the game, before gracefully losing it to keep up their top tier meme strats.

I am picking this next chart, and I believe I want it to be... Forts. I might not have the most Towers, but mine are among the best in the World, and I want to show them off.
>>
>>143445831
That's a hell of a gap between the top 3 and everyone else.
>>
>>143445734
Me? Hiding things? I believe I was the one that started letting people know how many fire gems I had for trade (no one wants to buy fire gems... Except Lanka). I am also, as the soon to be new glorious leader of this Great Map, heavily recommended to show my Nations Great income near the start of the race. It was for this reason that I used Eyes of Trump to properly organize my taxes and forms to make these wonderful charts for ease of reading.

Topping out the Charts is Sauro, with their ramshackle houses scattered everywhere. You would think it was a suburbia with all the houses everywhere. Next place is my magnificent Trump Towers, whom would absolutely be outnumbering Sauro in both numbers and total people capable of living in luxury at affordable price in each if not for the Trump Temples of Good Buisness practice that is needed in each. Next up is Niefelheim, flexing their cash muscle, which is about as big as their other muscles, and forting up every indi province they had the pleasure to find, and some provinces that just needed a place to sit and look at the view. Behind them is Fomoria, whom also enjoys having places for their hippy research druids to put feathers in their hair and sit in circles thinking about stuff. Lanka brings up #5 though with blood mage recruitment centers, that hopefully are doing something other than making bloodmages at this point.

Not shown on this Chart is Arco, whom only has their capitol, and might eventually have to default on that as well.

You guys choose the next chart!

>>

You keep using this word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Unless it's part of your Trump RP. I haven't actually listened to any of his speeches.

Let's see that gem income.
>>
>>143446947
Lanka is probably trying to make their commanders all flame helmets to negate their fire vulnerability and stop Rain of Stones spam from killing them or something. That and Lightless lanterns. Also they have 0 Fire gem income it seems. Maybe 1-2 a turn somewhere I didn't see. Probably why they want to gun for Abysia to the point they are wrapping around Pan as the way bigger spoon.

>>143447079
The Xibalban Language makes it's own rules! Also I totally confuse Who and Whom on a case by case basis. So many exceptions. I also have been double checking my use of it against the general rule and haven't seem to have broken it yet. Or I am just tired? That might be it.

IN FIRST PLACE, proving that it is cold up north because all the heat is going into crystals, IS PANTOKR B. TRUMP!!!!!! FUCK YEAH! #1 baby! As you can see on the chart, the first big jump happened around the time Mictlan died and I got to Augury all their lands and found out that they were on fire. The next jump is when I went around to the North near Abysian Nights and realized they were stealing all the warm for fire gems. Thanks to this gracious boon, I am able to add +18 to almost any type of gem income I actually need for the purposes of trading to people to get the gems I have 0 income of. My other income includes a Solid Astral, Nature, and Death income, with lower earth, and water, and an Air income on par with Lanka's fire income (IE trade only, Muh Call of the Winds guys).

In second place is Niefelheim whom has a strong all around income while a little heavy on the Green side of things. 3-5h place is actually very nearly a Tie, with Lanka having a strong number of everything except Fire it seems, TC having average income except for strong Astral and Death, and Ulm having a lot of Earth with solid gems from everything except Fire, boosted by their Globals for cheaper crafting and the Mother Oak.

Last place was actually a pretty nice Tie from lack of sight searching. Arco won out in the end with lowest still living gem income.

You guys choose the next Chart as well, only 2 left I think?

Here we go, man I work fast! First place continues to be Lanka and their massive numbers of Priests and temples, trying to spread turmoil to all the orderly nations around them. Right behind and closing in is Fomoria, with TC overtaking Sauro for 3rd place and Ermor bringing up 5th. Bottom of the barrel is still Arco, with what seems to have been mulitple Heratic(3) commanders sitting in their capitol to keep their candles low. A bold move, and it paid off in that I deemed it worth mentioning.

Next chart is going to be Income.

Thank you. It means a lot that I am successfully taking something that would otherwise be boring and/or fear-mongering, and am making in entertaining. I am also trying to keep with my Promises earlier in the campaign to have as complete transparency as possible within reason. Sure sometimes it makes me look like a danger, but any nation in the top 10 is still a definite contender for the win, and not recognizing that has been the cause of many a come from behind victory. The top 5 always seem the scariest when you don't know exactly what is putting them in the top 5, and shedding some light on the hows of their top spots really does make them seem less like a boogy-man and more like something attainable by others. Memegeddon is less about winning anyway, and more about memes, having fun, and learning how to play on bigger maps. Win or Lose, I plan on detailing what I did to get so big, what was and wasn't lucky about my start, and a good number of my diplomatic actions.

Back to Graphs! It seems that Ermor was actually barreling ahead of even Niefelheim in Income before they bit off more than they could chew with a 3v1. Spending lots of gold on an army doesn't guarantee a victory, my friend. Niefelheim is in first now though, despite Turmoil and sloth dominion in his lands. Most of his income is going towards indi mages, if his Research is anything to go by. I and Sauro are neck and neck for 3rd place, with Sauro having to contend with mostly forest and mountain lands, and I having to sit on Tundra Wastes for a solid 1/4 of my total lands. Most of that income seems to be going strait into forts and temples. 5th place is Ulm, Whom showed off his Construction 7 with a Forge of the Ancients and looks to have enough astral income that he could actually feasibly start making Golem SC's every few turns with his Smiths/Hammers/FotA cost reducers. It seems Ulm's cash is going into steel maidens and more smiths, But more forts should be on the way.

>>
>>143452665
It's painful how low I am on this chart despite being in a rather decent position on the # of provinces chart.

Half my fucking land is wasteland and the other half is mountains. ;_;
>>
>>143452476
I would actually like to start a little monkey relief charity, to help out small monkey nations hurting in a bad way. Kailasa could use the help, and they have definitely been working hard to prove that it wouldn't go to waste. Kailasa is in desperate need of gems to create more units and earthquakes to stop hostile bully Ermor forces. I and R'leyh, as people that are doing our best to make Oeridia Great Again, have already sent gems over gratis to help them and encourage them to stand up to bullies and never give up.
>>143452289
While I appreciate your amazing desire to Step in and stomp out bullying Niefelheim, it would not help them in the long run if we were to go there and remove them ourselves. This is something that Yomi and Kailasa need to work together for. I will not disparage Sauro for helping though, as they are right there in the middle, involved in the happenings of that part of the map.

It is my hope that others will be willing to contribute to the cause of a nation that is trying so hard to be a part of such an amazing game, and will recognize that Kailasa is a nation that will definitely be able to give back to this map when they get back on their feet.

>>
>>143454039
Agartha is on the lower end of the spectrum actually. They have more provinces than Therados, but less than Pelagia, if that gives any indication. Their total provinces is at approx. 30 and they seem to be having a lot of trouble moving their stuff to take back provinces being grabbed by Indi's.
>>
>>143455031
Velites don't have the HP density to make for good evo catchers. Mages tend to target squares with the highest HP, so you'll usually want to use units with above-average HP as dedicated evo catchers. Vine Ogres, for example, are a popular choice because they're relatively easy to get and despite their crappy stats they have a lot of HP, so mages like targeting them.

"It depends" is a meme for a reason. It's because of people like >>143453969 who ask vague questions about a game with fuckton of units, spells and interactions.

>how do damage reversal works?
Before a unit with damage reversal takes damage, it rolls a check for 10 plus the level of damage reversal against the attacker's MR.

If the check succeeds, the attacker takes damage instead.

>If a mage casts incinerate in a dmg/reversal unit, he will receive an incinerate backwards?
>what if a mage casts opposition to a horror? will be himmune to the reversal damge?
No, all that's returned is the damage. Fire resist won't protect from using incinerate on a target with damage reversal, and not being a magic being won't negate damage from opposition.

>>143530459
What kind of pretender design are they recommending as a whole? For example, if combined with Earth, you'd be getting Crystal Matrices which I think might be worth investment on some nations (a lot of good communion slaves combined with big mages without astral path), as well as Crystal Coins to boost your astral further. However, I don't think Atlantis is one of those nations that would really benefit from either of those options. Astral always has some use but low astral on pretender is also a major risk unless you are really diligent not letting him in the harm's way in regards to magic duel (for example, a crafty player might suicide-teleport a few casters on unforted province where they've sighted your pretender).
>>
>>143530459
Round 1 antimagic is pretty nice. You also only need cons 4 for crystal coins. Teleport / Golems are situationally nice too, and Atlantis has no magic phase movement without some way to boost their astral up.
>>
Planning a MA Marignon pretender right now. Does aiming for a high-level bless on my knights seem worth it? I like going for 6E9N for regeneration. Also can't land on a good chassis to use.
>>
>>143531762
I would say so, you don't really have any other major advantages besides your recruit-everywhere troops and the blessing also benefits your mages.
>>
>>143531762
The nature statue with E4N9 is pretty solid. It gives you great scales and a nice bless for your angels. Make sure that you take Prod 3

The N9 bless helps your knights survive, and is quite alright for expanding with them even if it's not W9, but it's mostly a bless to help make your angels better thugs/SCs.

Dom 6 is +1 scale.

You need temples in every fort anyways in order to make witch hunters, and Magic is actually quite good if you're planning on making some initiates as lab rats.

Yeah, great. If only they didn't have to pay double fatigue for casting shit in the rain.

>>
>>143536068
If I take Cold1 I'll have nowhere near as many points to devote to other things. I'd like my production to be high if possible, and I don't follow your thinking on rivers/mountains. I know rivers can freeze over, but what changes with mountains again and why is it so desirable.

At the moment I'm still thinking that what I had is fine. I like heat fine and switching to cold would kill my production unless I went to C3 to get my points back, which wouldn't suit my stuff at all.

What's the best heat scale for EA Atlantis? Cold or Hot? They are resistant to both fire and cold and have both fire and water magic.
>>
>>143537747
Probably heat, I mean it doesn't really affect underwater that much anyway
>>
>>143537853
Does cold affect underwater? Also heat scales are more commonly taken I think so having cold scales will dissuade them from attacking a bit.
>>
>>143537953
Deep sea is unaffected while standard sea provinces are affected up to +-1 effect if I recall correctly
>>
>>143537747

How about the sheer scale of the overhaul for one. Changes to some factions like ermor and t'ien chi I don't like as just a base example. The changing units via exp. Some very powerful items getting a nerf to cost.

There are some good changes in there though. Useless items getting a cost reduction or increase in power. MA Man in particular getting a general buff.

Overall though I think the changes are too far reaching. The default game is fairly balanced as is so long as you avoid useless nations like the aforementioned MA Man. Imo map choice is way more important than any changes via mod too, its self explanatory that some nations do better on certain maps.

When it comes to modding I try and keep to the mantra "He who balances everything, balances nothing" - Sun Tzu.

I'm going to play MA Ermor in every game you're in. Prepare your seventh planet from the Sun.
>>
>>143544846
Well, mind being more specific for us about the ermorian and Tien Chian changes you dislike? I presume conscripts from the XPshape comment, but what else?

Also, for the amount it changes, there's so much untouched, and we intend to keep it that way. The goal is to move anything at the very top of the power graph down a bit, and give those at the bottom a decent punt into the middle area. Perfect balance in dominions is not only untennable it's downright impossible.
>>
>>143545116
Ermor isn't that powerful friend, even very well played ermor nations aren't that great. I remember one particularly good player in ExtremeWays and he still lost to a Vanarus player who was exceptional.

>>143545160
Extra fort costs for Ermor is a bit shitty. Their income's going to be lower anyway bar luck events and it takes a really, really long time to properly fort push. By the endgame, skellies are effectively useless in any case and knocking out thousands is a breeze.

The problem I personally have is that the scale of changes made is difficult to properly balance by nature of design. My preferred approach to modding is to simply make incremental changes bit by bit. Not saying the mod is bad per se, just not my cup of tea.
>>
>>143545437
Generally due to not having to spend money on anything else, Ermor ends up with a lot more forts than any other similar sized nation.
Lategame is hard for them, but having more forts doesn't solve that, and their early-mid strength is due to the number of undead, especially sacreds.

So yeah, to make it perectly balanced Ermor would need more tweaks, but this is changing it bit by bit to see if it works or not, hence my confusion at your second point.
>>
>>143545929
One thing to consider is that these days players are pretty sharp on the anti-ermor meta. Any ermor player is going to get stomped on by competent opponents from the get go. It's only really in games where people make the mistake of leaving an ermor alone entirely that it results in the mid game hell of 2k skellies with mage support raining down several times upon a nation. If ermor genuinely was a severe balance issue I'd just ban people from playing it entirely, as is it lends the game a bit more of an interesting meta for what works against some players may barely touch Ermor and vice versa.

Imo sceleria is more OP than Ermor ever is. I've lost many more games to a skilled scelerian player.
>>
>>143546103
Asside from EdibleGloves where Marignon got really really lucky as well as being extremely cometant and put Ermor down fairly early, all other recent games I know of have had them last well into midgame. That their advantage early is their sacreds, making killing their forces without proper mage support hard.

Sceleria is touched briefly by Summod, due to the general change of all indie priests to having 5 upkeep per turn for undead reanimating nation rather than 2.
>>
>>143546404
You mean GelatinousCube?
EdibleGloves is an LA game. I think the Ermor in jellycube admitted that he had fucked up an important fight somewhere.
>>
>>143546631

so the principle of evocatching is the most health you can fit in single squares far away from the main body of your force? that makes these guys good options, right?
>>
>>143547451
They're a bit hard to mass with only 1 per cast.
>>
>>143547451
>most health
Not necessary, hp is important, but AI also targets by range so you can have some relatively low hp troops up front to soak up early damage.

And while devils do work as good evocatchers if needed, they are actually a very good elite troop, especially when buffed. And they are not easy to mass until blood 9 as they require a lot of mage turns.
You don't want your elites to be soaking up damage, you want something cheap and dumb that you can spam. Vine ogres are a popular solution but not necessary the only one.
>>
>>143547451
Well, technically, but given that fiends of darkness have 4 attacks a square and are attack 15 in darkness they are rather fragile and killy for their expense for evocatchers.
>>
>>143547451

Nah, they are expensive and hard to summon. Use something like vige ogres. A single mage can summon multiple ogres for under 1N/pop every turn.

From the inspector:

This spell creates a heavy rain upon the battlefield. This makes it harder to fly and the heat effects of Abysians and other hot creatures are severely reduced. Fire magic is more difficult to use during heavy rain, as all non-underwater Fire spells have their fatigue cost doubled. If it is cold it will snow instead. Snow does not increase the fatigue for fire spells, but it does reduce some heat effects although less so than rain.

I know, I'm just busy doing other stuff.

Now, as no-one who knows exactly when you left is answering, let me tell you what happened whilst I've been in /domg/, so from last septemberish to now.

Firstly, Therodos was released, called shit by everyone, won stuff in /domg/ and then got accidentally nerfed to death because Illfraud asked Desura for their views on it.

Secondly, the spreadsheet, at the bottom of the OP is new, it's made by sum1won and has all the completed games we know of archived in it and from that winrates for nations are now available.

Thridly, Summod, born from the above is the new balance mod attempt, which has covered EA and MA, with work being done on LA. No issues so far in terms of him doing anything that completely warps the game, though there have been some humerous accidents due to it only being him and one assistant mainly working on it.

Fourthly, we gained a taste for memegames, starting with Flatus, set on a map only it's creators mother could love. Due to the admin throwing a hissy fit at turn 12 BoT, that was ended, so Stalewarriors was made, taking place on Oerida. That eventually finished, a latus 2 was set up and is ongoing, and Memegeddon 2 now exists and is ongong (Memegeddon 1 died due to admin strop).

Currently we're in a minor glut in terms of people starting games, a decent amount of known faces are doing exams which is probably the reason.

Oh, and Illwinter has promised UW elves, whilst having not fixed the issues of having UW units wth rusting weapons (most were sorted, MOST but not all).

Oh, well, that's cool.

How is the modding scene? I heard Desura was ded now, is there a new hub for that? Even if I haven't been playing, I've been working on-and-off on some mod nations for a while.

Is nationgen still a thing? Has it been updated, or abandoned?

Any sweeping changes to the meta in terms of new globals or summons?

My god got muted during expansion. This isn't exactly a big deal for expansion, but I was planning on actually using that rank 9 path for something. I don't have any national access to healers, but I do have one or two ranks in every path of magic. What's my best bet for unafflicting my god?

I've got a few. It's a great idea in theory, Dominions is the sort of game that provides tons of inspiration for them just because of how much of a mixture of bullshit RNG/AI and 'diplomacy' it is.

>>143566598
I feel like early artifacts are almost more of a curse than a blessing. Not entirely, obviously, but when you've got that temptation to use them before you have any real way of exploting or protecting them there is a bit of a risk there.

I got Fenris' Pelt early on once which was pretty nice. Helped kill a pretender in the arena.

The /domg/ modding scene is motsly sum1won with myself helping at various points and doing wierd stuff, with Amuys doing some stuff as well. On dom4mods Olhman still lives and carries WH and UW expanded onwards. Personally I'd love to see what you've been working on.

Nationgen is a thing, there's been a few, the latest being /domg/natgen. Lukas and some others (I'm helping) are planning for another one, which will happen as soon as we can agree how much if at all we touch up the nations (deathpower removal only is my vote).

Flame Jellies are pretty fun underwater, and bishop fish give every nation H3 access if they can get a W3 underwater.

Some artifacts are much nicer early than others. The Gatestone or a Ring of Wizardry of a Fenris Pelt might not be super useful early, but getting the Soulstone of Wolves T4 is fucking hilarious.

>Personally I'd love to see what you've been working on.
Not quite at a state where I'm comfortable posting it, (Most of the nations are half-done and have no sprites, one is like 99% finished and will probably be done by next week) but it's based on a trashy MMO I used to play called Rift. Lot of factions, very clear-cut in terms of elemental specialities, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Sprites are an absolute nightmare to do en-masse though, so I've been plodding along to avoid burnout.
>>
>>143568573
No problem, and if you need any coding help at all just ask 'cause that's what I do. Also Amuys does great sprites, if you want to ask him to do some then he'd probably help.

I think Ulm is actually the toppest right now, but other than that it's pretty accurate.
>>
>>143581220

Marverni Ulm and Sauro all got two caps plus big territory.

All I did was humbly inform everyone Caelum had like 10-12 province long empire (I bordered them on both east and west) and that Mictlan most likely had Shattered or Splendour Throne in his cap ring (which he did) and that triggered the gang bang. I speak to people a lot and exchange intel, stop bully.

Guys, I got to late game and I have access to wish, so i want a real telkhine with death magic, but i would want it to have nature, and if possible i would want it to be sacred.

That sounds like Lysagora, right?
Well, for some reason I can't wish for her, but can wish for all of the other telkhine heros: Dexithea works (even if it's the name and not the unit type, which is just "telkhine"), Queen of the city works (but not her name, just the unit type), but when i wish for Lysagora, it gives and error. Wishing for Telkhine, her unit type, won't help.

Any idea? Someone told me about wishing for unit IDs, but Amuys confirmed me it doesn't work in dominions 4 anymore.
So what should i ask for? I need it to have Water and death, plus sacred if possible, and capable to be used as a SC. Abductor?
>>
So how does blood vengeance (blessing) work?
For example i bless my 20 prot sentinels with it and a militia hits it for 2 (becasue of the protection) does blood vengeance reflect the damage before or after prot /resistance calculation?

It'd be a swamp terrain ritual, it'd summon nature themeded skeles on par with the other two hidden spells (which are vastly stronger than manikins), a mage, and a commander.
>>
>>143586125

>Hidden Underneath forgotten again

Not surprising, considering it's 100% inferior to hidden in sand. F gem hidden in X when. A gem hidden in X when? S gem hidden in X when - oh wait, Ether Gate.
>>
Speaking of all this hidden in x, is it a glitch that the unfrozen aren't amphibious or is it a balance thing?
