4Xs generally are shallow, mostly in diplomacy. And they have a winning condition.
GS and 4X can be similar, as GS is not really that well defined. Take HoI and CK2 for example.

In theory because you have no end objective.
EU4 actually falls into it, in my opinion, because it became map painting simulator. But still, you can still play it like "I will unify Italy" and stop there, without invanding France / Germany / Balkans, while in Civ if you do that you are doomed.

CK2 is even less 4x, yes you can paint the map, but that is secondary. Calling CK2 4x is like calling Warband 4x because you can expand and etc.

Anyway, 4x is a shit, boring genre, and the best 4x games are good because of stuff that is out of the 4x scope (Like Alpha Centauri)

dont buy more ships, early game bring your tax down, pay off pirates by checking diplomacy and pick when its cheap. Get 10 exporers and 5 construction ships and build a large port. The port protects your colony and everything else can be rebuilt/can escape. Just get the high speed railguns at 960k before buying anything, those shread through anything but silver mist and higher tech ships. Then just build colonies, bump your capitals tax up, and wait until you have multiple 2000m colonies you can tax before doing anything. If you spam colonies and are near other empires then you can get shit loads of cash off spaceports/trade to speed up research before you war everything. Only very hard is somewhat hard since diplomacy is impossible.

Help me out lads?

Can't get vicky 2 windowed mode to work properly

If i launch the game using v2game.exe found in the game files, then it runs in windowed mode without problem.
But if I try and use the launcher or steam to load the game (since I want to play with mods), it forces windowed mode (yes I tried the steam commands -windowed -h and -w, they do not work).

Anyone know how to fix? (or know how to run mods without the launcher)
