I never really enjoy doing a lot of things on private servers if I did them on live, like rep grinding or farming mounts or any of that completionist shit, so it mostly comes down to instanced content and how classes play. With that in mind either MoP or Cata. I'd probably do a leveling tour of the others but I enjoyed those ones more for the atmosphere and community rather than the content itself, which would be boring as fuck to rehash in a legacy server.

I'm just coming back to WoW after a few years break. I'm really liking the Monk class, but I'm torn between playing Monk or Druid. I love the Druid lore, and I've always been feral/guardian.

Monk main since MoP here, and I'd probably say druid. As far as Legion goes, Guardian looks a LOT better than Brewmaster. WW on the other hand is boring as all fuck, and probably won't get changed because people are falling for le fighting game playstyle meme.

I don't heal on either class, and have heard mixed things for both. All in all though, if you don't have any big attachments to the monk class, I'd say leave it.

If you like the playstyle of WoD MW (not t18), go disc in legion. That's what i'm doing. Fits both the damage-to-heal criteria, as well as uplift-like healing with pw:s letting you atonement heal in bursts to select targets.
I've mained MW a majority of this xpac, and love how it works, but it's getting completely torn up in legion. Not necesarily in a bad way, it's just a rework that gets rid of all the core mechanics behind how it works now.

No, that's not why they removed it.
They removed it because from MoP to WoD they changed it from an actual healing method to mana management, and don't like how it turned into that so they're reworking the class from the ground up.
Right now, you only fistweave to get mana tea stacks on beginning of pull or during downtime, maybe to squeeze in extra DPS on progression. The healing aspect is negligible at best.
It does add to the depth of the class yes, but i'll take MW getting another source of mana management at the cost of eminence healing any day
