A short film called "Arcadia Bay" that features coastal oregon, visions, journal-keeping and polaroids. Apparently (according to the redditor) developed in 2014 and then released in April 2015 with no prior knowledge of the game.

Who copied who? Since dontnod changed the name to Arcadia Bay on the suggestion of Chris Divine, I don't think this can be just a coincidence. This amateur filmmaker must have copied the game, right?

The double/extra moon flickers away as Max and Chloe drive off to the junkyard into Jefferson's ambush where he shoots Chloe.
Chloe is going to die in the not too distant future in the AU.
Now this is just a theory but the moon incident is proof that Chloe is connected to the storm and looking at her state in the AU, it seems like it's her fate to die in 2013
The double moon, and everything else, happens because Chloe is deviating from her fate and the universe is handling that badly. The extra moon goes away because Chloe is heading to her death which then eases the universe again.
Max's tornado visions only happen in the first two episodes just before Chloe is in serious danger and then also in episode 1 when they're at the lighthouse even though Chloe isn't in any danger other than if she somehow ended up falling off the cliff but the freak snow happens right then so that vision might have been because of Max telling Chloe about her power right after which sets them on the path that is the rest of the game where Chloe's life is in danger quite a few times and also maybe just because Max tells Chloe about the supernatural stuff going on which sets the scene for altering the flow of time even more.
Probably grasping at straws but still.

The intention could be that Chloe is linked to the storm. Most people assume this because the story suggests it. Chloe herself does, and Max to a degree.

But the second moon flickering off as a sign of "easing" the universal disconnect doesn't make too much sense because when Chloe actually dies afterwards, the storm still comes. And just fundamentally the idea that the universe goes all mad over Chloe but ignores everything else - even in a completely different timeline - is ridiculous.

The most "reasonable" explanation is that Max's accumulated time fuckery and especially the first fateful rewind sets all the shit into motion. So it just so happens, more or less, that Max has to in the end rewind to and not use her powers in that specific incident to undo her time fuckery. But Chloe is only circumstantially relevant here in that without her, Max would not have triggered her powers, or so we have to assume. This is what I think the devs actually intended. That Max powers cause the storm, and the powers are tied to Chloe by their "soulmate"-type friendship.

Other interesting explanations include stuff to do with Rachel and the Prescotts. The universe actually wanting to off Chloe is the most boring, simple and nonsensical (both logically and narratively) explanation, I think.

The elephant in the room is just that if you try to rationalise further or more in-depth than just "messing with time is bad and wrong" or why Max would even get the power to rewind if it just breaks reality when she does, you'll only get a headache and everything will begin to fall apart.
I mean, I will accept the notion that messing with time is bad and wrong and I do still love the game but the fact that the mystery can't really be looked into afterwards and theorised on just for fun without breaking everything is a bummer.

"Accumulated time fuckery" as in Max using her powers repeatedly to change stuff. William is a big fateful change, but it doesn't set into motion an odyssey of numerous further rewinds and Focus adventures like saving Chloe does for Max. AU Max never discovered or used her powers. The "C" still arriving in the AU is in this context more to be understood as an extension of all her previous time fuckery, since well, the AU existing in the first place is just another time fuckery in a chain of others.

But hey, I never said it makes absolute sense. "Reasonable" is in quotation marks for a reason.

Well, the powers (even disregarding narrative functions, writer intentions and interpreting it as a metaphor and stuff) are then just the manifestation of Max's profound connection to Chloe, coupled with a bit of Arcadian magic sprinkled on there. It's the magic of lesbian love, so to say. Not something the universe have given her, but a deep power she willed alive herself (although looking at it from the writer's perspective it definitely is something they gave her to have her suffer for their narrative ideas). And this can make sense because even if the narrative seems to want her to "let Chloe go", she can keep holding on too, and then the idea behind her power gets to be that you can and should try your all for the people you care about, and that you can make a change and overcome your regrets and stuff.

"Rachel and the Prescotts" is a cool bandname, I just realized.

Yeah, the message the game gives you about how it's important to treasure the people you hold dear and do everything you can for them is nice and one to put in the bag.
Not buying the idea that the rewind power is the power of love+friendship given actual power, though, even if it is a nice thought. It was for a bit of mystery magic and unique gameplay element and not overthinking it is probably best.
I think I will just give up overthinking and theorising completely since nothing good really comes out of it and the game already is clear in its message and what you should take with you from it unless we also take all the things Michel has said additionally into consideration because then it's just contradictions.

Correct. Can't argue against that. The only thing I could say doesn't close the circle logically, but narratively. Where the Chloe incident is the origin of everything. So going back and erasing that inception to undo the time fuckery is at least narratively a fair concept.

I would think it's the opposite. She can do all the explicit stuff, but it's the more loving and gentle stuff she has little experience with. She would be incredibly shy with Max because it's something so much more than just a drunken/ high fling or attempt at stress-relief.

Just a few tips: Don't fall into the trap of calling characters numerous things, just their names are fine nearly all of the time. And don't try to force phrases from the game into the dialogue (Wowser, hella - I'm looking at you, Rowan).
There's a lot of gaps in the established story so be creative to fill them in and have fun! Or make everything and everyone miserable if you plan on making a game out of your fic. I have my own plans to eventually type something out as well.

Except they didn't address this at all. Instead of realisticly exploring the consequences that would naturally flow from wanting to change your life time, they crowbarred in external effects (the tornado, as well as powers that fail at a critical moment, and characters suddenly becoming retarded and ignoring obvious alternate possibilities).

The one place they came close to covering this alledged theme was the episode 3/4 AU where you have wheelie Chloe. And frankly even this is a pretty facile example, both incredibly unlikely (it was equally likely William Price would buy a winning lotto ticket and they'd all live happily ever after), and easily avoidable (find any photo of Max pre the crash, focus, and have her ring Chloe to warn her. Even the act of calling without warning her might perturb the the timeline enough to save Chloe from the crash.)

Overall they managed to lead players to make a sacrifice at the end, but not the one they were hoping for.

About the only thing we do know is it's almost certain the old cast won't come back and Dontnod wants Life is Strange to be an anthology style series with different casts each season. I complied with her request then. It was clear we were going to leave that timeline soon, and after some thought I realized she would likely die (Along with her parents) shortly anyway when the storm came through.
It was sad, but I knew that it wasn't going to matter much in the long run.

I love mjr's writing, but I hate the idea that the alternate timelines persist. Max and Chloe are totally back to how they are supposed to be and doing the lewd how it is, too.

She's right about Max going back being selfish though. As opposed to the ending choice, this one actually is selfish. Not only because she escapes Chloe's request and the consequences of her actions, but because Chloe was genuinely happy and prepared to die here. She had given her ultimate peace and freedom, but could herself not live with this reality.

Of course, there are things like the storm that was still apparantly coming and the realities of having euthanized Chloe there (i. e. facing her parents and all that), but front and center here is Max's desire to be with Chloe that forces her back through the photo.

Rachel (And almost certainly Kate) are dead which means Jefferson still has his grasp on Nathan, Max's relationship with her parents seems to have deteriorated, Chloe is dying and her parents are suffering a tremendous emotional and financial burden that will not end, David is not in a position that allows him to monitor Jefferson and eventually track him down (Meaning Max may still be in danger), and to top it off the storm is still coming.
At least in the original timeline Max knows what's going on and isn't let to fill in the blanks or be shocked at discovering what is different about herself and others.
There was nothing wrong with Max reverting the changes. There's no evidence that the timelines continue and only Max would remember if anything was changed. She's the one with the power and has no obligation to give up her own happiness for minor improvements in others lives. Everyone has the power to be happy, Victoria needs to be nice and Warren needs to move on and get the hint.

True, but I think the point that it is selfish stands. For one, Max didn't yet know that Jefferson, or anyone, was napping girls. And she doesn't check on Kate here either. So for her, the decision is different. Yeah, there's shit in this timeline too, but as far as she knows things are still happier for most of everyone. I'm sure William and Joyce are happier broke together than scraping by apart. Chloe is less mad at the world and more content and can be happy despite her hardships, rather than broken because of them, and ultimately genuinely accept death.
This is not an obvious decision either, but it feels selfish for Max because Chloe is at peace, William alive and the only things that's legitimately worse in this reality is the fact that she doesn't have Chloe anymore and to deal with this reality and the consequences of her actions in it now.

But then what does "selfish" even mean? Is it even meaningful here? As you say, she has no obligation to compromise her own happiness, and she is not responsible for all this crap either. mjr (or at least her Max) has the same notion of being responsible for this reality when she isn't at all. Gaining the powers in the first place was unintentional, and so was focusing into that picture. From there Max did what everybody would do: not let a person needlessly die when you can prevent it. She never actively tried to create any new timelines, let alone "perfect" ones. She carries no blame for anything that happens in this reality and frankly, it's not her reality to deal with. So erasing it is the natural, the human choice - "selfish" or not.

You can't be responsible for an entire universe. Should she later also feel compelled to solve all problems this world faces because they exist "because of her"? No. The only thing that is valid here is self-preservation; returning to where you belong. So yeah, more than agreeing that there's nothing wrong with reverting, I'd go a step further and say it is only right.

But to give an answer, euthanizing is a real and valid thing. Just because she isn't 90 years old doesn't mean she can't have the genuine wish to die. Countless people kill themselves yearly, often young. And many fail and suffer severe damages from it. Dying is not necessarily tragedy either. Obviously there is a case to be made for helping someone die, otherwise it wouldn't be practiced in parts of the world.

Which doesn't mean that the other choice isn't totally valid too. I'd even say that in disregarding the fact that we knew we were always having to go back, it really is not on Max to do it there. They could first talk with the parents and they wouldn't keep Chloe alive torturously against her will if they felt her genuine request as Max did. So I agree, just looking at it in the moment, I personally wouldn't have done it because even if it is a totally valid thing, it's not the right time just yet, and Max is not the right person to do it either, for various reasons (including that this can have serious implications for her life, both psychologically and legally).

Seriously though, we are in town before the tornado hits land and at that point it had already thrown entire trains around and the main street was blocked. I know in the ending the damages are laughable in comparison and the streets are cleared (another thing to headcanon into the idea that rescue services had already arrived and Max and Chloe stuck around for some time before driving out), but it's reasonable that people had been caught off-guard and then prevented from leaving, or thought it'd be more safe to hide from a tornado in their basements or wherever than go on the road.

Plus there are elderly, toddlers, disabled, ill, sleeping, and otherwise people just unable to rescue themselves. The "they had like 4 hours to leave" argument never did make much sense.

Plus again, F6 or not, it's a reasonable decision to make not to jump in a car and drive when a tornado is approaching. The formulation there was not supposed to be sassy or anything. But look at google maps. These small-ish cost towns have only 1 road that leads into and out of them - the main road. And we don't know the region of mass destruction.

Again, the argument doesn't matter because in the end, what does it change for Max's decision? Nothing. As long as only 1 person dies in the storm (and arguably even if they are partly responsible for that themself), the decision is still very much the same. Include the fact that Nathan, Frank and Kate can be already dead in BAE and it's even still the "same" nature of the decision regardless of any casualties in the storm.
