News:
1)
Julian Gollop - lead developer of the original game X-COM UFO Defense - is working on his new game, Phoenix Point. It's a turn-based tactical game with strategy elements, destructible terrain, geoscape and character progression much akin to XCOM, where the enemy mutates to adapt to the tactics you use.
Also you can target individual body parts in the tactical layer for different effects. A few anons are on the e-mail newsletter for this; ask in the thread for more info.

Here are some links for the curious, though there isn't much yet:

2)
The same Julian Gollop held a conference three weeks ago discussing the past, present and possible future of the XCOM franchise and style.

Honestly this. Again, sorry for the other thread but it's just that things going too quiet for too many turns is often a bad sign for me. It almost means that multiple patrols are about to be activated and there is nothing that can be done about it. Has happened too many times to now.

Repost from last thread:

We're verified to play in the /vg/ league 6. There is a high chance we will play in the qualifier first.

First we have a strawpoll with the Old Guard players: http://www.strawpoll.me/10033297

Next we have a suggestion doc where you can make some suggestions for the team: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/184bcQTOA-R7DjPACmr5-ad_elNeKicHtaAPyEVbIxIY/viewform?c=0&w=1
Here is a pastebin with currently selected new teammates: http://pastebin.com/cSrNT3kC

We'll make a strawpoll soon with these players so you can vote. Top 11 from the Old Guard poll plus 12 from the New Challengers poll will make the team.

Just finished beating the game on commander/ironman without any mission reloads whatsoever.

Holy shit what a fucking intense experience. The last turn of the final battle was literally one missed shot away from a wipe. You have never felt the adrenaline rush from a vidya game before if you haven't seen ~50 hours worth of gameplay flash before your eyes as you're at the mercy of RNJesus for losing or winning it all.

Also fuck you XCOM bugs; solace is supposed to cleanse mind control you piece of shit game. At least the ayylmaos got what they deserved in the end.

>inb4 nice blog

Nice, blast those filthy ayys

At least none of the bugs still in XCOM2 are as bad as the vanilla XCOM:EU bugs. Teleporting sectopods and not being able to see ayys in adjacent tiles was some serious rage inducing shit

It happens to all of us, I lost my favourite Long War heroes last night on a crashed UFO mission I almost skipped.
>>
>>140290992
Restarting a mission on ironman is for fags.

Had I lost I'd have stopped right there, because it wouldn't truly be one continuous playthrough at that point.
>>
>>140235268
Coincidentally I was looking everywhere for that mod last night because I finally ran into an issue of my abilities not all displaying.
>>
>>140291939
No, the game actually sends you back, there's no reloading involved
>>
>>140292062
That's beside the point. I play ironmeme for the fun of never going back on anything ever. Anything else feels like I'm cheating myself. That way it makes it feel oh so much sweeter when I actually do shit all over those filthy ayys.

>>140291724
I actually ran into this one annoying bug on my run that was pretty bad. A couple times when vipers grabbed my dudes, it set their mobility to zero, and it didn't get properly reset after the viper died, and stayed that way for their permanent stats (was unusable on further missions). I lost several good men that way, since there's no dev console to fix the issue and I play with no reloads, period.

That being said, the LOS indicator in XCOM 2 is a godsend. I actually don't think I'd be able to go back and play LW again without it...
>>
>>140292672
There is a dev console though

That explains why everyone was dreary and annoyed at you.

It really depends what you're interested in, my favourite holiday destination in the UK is around the Berwick-Northumbria area (better if you can hire a car) as theres plenty of history to see (read castles), the weather is nice in the summer and the coastline in that area is beautiful, Edinburgh is the big cultural place to visit but other than that I'm not hugely knowledgeable on Scotland so it'll be worth looking things up, except avoid Glasgow, seriously.

York isn't Scotland but is a great tourist destination in the north, the museums there are great (mothafuckin trains) and the city in general is lovely.

I'm around 6 foot and all the active castles (ones where the family open it up to the public as a museum) don't have height issues and most of the ruined ones in the Northumberland area have fairly high (or non-existent) ceilings and door ways so it shouldn't be an issue.

Limited functionality of the UI and color system

Maybe someone will do a UI revampe at some point, but I doubt it.

For example: You can technically change the color and camo pattern on gremlins, but there's no UI option to do it by default

If you really want something, you gotta just go and do it yourself. That's how all these mods get made in the first place; can't just be hoping someone does it for you. That said, I would fully expect firaxis to improve the character customization UI with the next expansion, it's the one UI element in the game that's showing the most problems and issues of all the UI elements, and they probably have to change parts of it anyways if we're getting mecs or shivs or something.

Might as well do a good job of it, right?

Hey lads, updated the MEGA and the modlist.

As >>140308586 was kind enough to point out, Haven Siege's got a pretty nice update so I'm sticking the new version in the mod library and updating its description in the pastebin.
Many of you still seem to use the vanilla mod launcher so I added this:

>Added to "Introduction" section:
Finally, and this here's the important part; use the Alternative Mod Launcher, downloadable at this link:
https://github.com/aEnigmatic/xcom2-launcher/releases/tag/v0.4.3

Its features include:
- Skipping the god-awful vanilla xcom launcher
- Sorting mods into categories (Mod creators can set a default group in their .XComMod file. 0% of mod creators do this, but hey.)
- Basic compability checks (Lets you know when class overrides conflict, which is important)
- Basic steam support (Checking Workshop description and unsubscribing, mainly)
- Deleting needless files to reduce memory footprint (Don't do this unless you know what you're doing)
- Cleaning old ModOverride entries from XComEngine.ini

I haven't tried it on a pirated copy and can't imagine why you would have to - the game is good and worth your money. Even so, it's theoretically amazing for that purpose. Somebody will have to get back to me about whether or not it works.

>Added to Armor Customization category
30. Blacklight Retribution Helmets - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=674065294
I'm reasonably sure this was made by one of you guys, and a big thanks if I'm right - they look great. We always need more Tier 3 looking helmets, because vanilla's were pretty damn terrible.

>Added to Weapon Alternatives category;
12. M60 Machine Gun - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=674052416&searchtext=M60
If you really want to listen to Fortunate Son and blast aliens as if it was '69, get this mod. Scratch that, get all of E3245's Black Ops rips and top it off with the Skyranger customization mod for a pin-up decorated military chopper-look.
>>
>>140347810
As always, feel free to object to any changes and/or make any suggestions for mods you'd like to recommend!

Our modlist's a bit short on good class mods and voice packs, so let me know if you use any good ones.

Don't mention it!

>>140336314
You can actually fix this by using the mod launcher from >>140347810, at least in theory. I forgot to mention its best feature, you can set easily accessible launch options such as -NoRedscreens or -AllowConsole to access debug mode - it should work even if you're a pirate. It might try to boot Steam, but if it does I suggest launching Steam in offline mode and trying again.

>>140348094
They stopped on the DLC? Where's that page where you can check?

>rolls a sniper thus managing to avoid the frontline trenches
>somehow always gets shot at anyway when her comrades die, leaving her to save the day
>has nine lives or some shit, never gets hit
>always rolls low on fatigue too
>carries the campaign through entire travesty of a first month leaving her with the most kills and missions
>we manage to get early squad-size because of her blazing through ranks
>second month rolls around
>first mission is a disaster, 8 stunlancer pod activates first turn and the rest of the map on the second
>squadmates dying left and right, only her and three others left in a war of attrition
>she puts herself in a terrible position to throw a grenade at a car, killing three troopers and a lancer in a bid to save her squad
>gets critically wounded
>squad is overwhelmed, can't get to her position
>everybody grudgingly pulls back
>her timer hits zero
>two people panic on the spot

Two of those guys are somehow still alive now, a month after she saved them. Pic related is her.

It's a good game, good mechanics, sadly few maps
Nervous, fast gameplay.
Downside is it's a bit of a grind to get new mercs and better loadout cards above the bronze rarity (bronze is all you need, it got all the perks. It's just for more shiny bling really)
Don't fall for the P2W meme, it's not
Also the mercs are really unique, it's a pleasure to not have a bunch of CoD type characters

Start tweaking stuff yourself anon, really invigorated the game for me.

>>140360598
I don't really get that argument. I love the games for different reasons, CS has this esporty and hectic feel where you lay out a strategy and in a manner of speaking you battle the UI to pull it off by winning aimbattles and stuff. Plus you can watch tournaments with your friends when there's no football on. I live in Sweden so it's big as hell here, we even had a McDonalds hamburger named after former star player HeatoN.

XCOM I love because there's no conflict between the player and the UI, it's just 100% game. You decide everything and there's no-one to blame but yourself when you lay out a tactic, attempt it and it falls short. There's an RNG element, sure, but there's never a miscommunication between player and game; people go where you ask them to go and take the shots you ask them to take. Doesn't work like that in CS, where you can have the best strategy in the world and still get fucked because you weren't twitchy enough in executing.
>>
>>140360854
Yeah all the challenge goes. There's no real strategy game at all and the ammo and nades lily makes are shit. Tactical is good but it's empty without any decent strategy map.

>>
>>140361320
I think the tactical gameplay is lacking, honestly.

There's too much focus on wiping out the enemy in one turn so they can't hurt you back. There's no sustainability to either side. There's no real tactics involved - you never even have to flank. Most of the time you can literally just toss a grenade and take out all the cover anyways.

I think cover bonus needs to be upped to something like
Low cover: +30 Defense, +50 Dodge
High cover: +60 Defense, +100 Dodge

Give everything the ability to suppress, then have suppression cut mobility of the suppressed target in half, maybe more.

Reduce the ability for explosives to destroy high cover, weight the AI to prefer high cover and to suppress often and try to flank with units that aren't suppressing.

Snakes and Lancers should be the primary flanking units. Most Advent (and aliens like Mutons) should focus on suppressing fire and fire-and-maneuver as they close in for flanking shots. Chryssalids, Andromedons, Faceless, Berserkers, and MEC's should be used by the AI to trigger overwatch fire and clear the way forwards for other units.

Generally speaking, the AI shouldn't need to grossly outnumber xcom to win/kill; it needs to play significantly smarter. There shouldn't be a need for any extra large pods with these changes, because the AI ought to be lethal enough without it.

XCOM itself is probably best balanced at 6-8 squad members, although I think 8 is really pushing it.

Nah AI like Long War is needed where ayys choose high cover more unless a killshot is in view from half cover.

higher cover bonuses are critical to forcing both xcom and AI to go for flanking shots rather than simply sitting there killing each other through cover like it doesn't exist.

All cover should be extremely effective at protecting whatever is using it so that some semblance of actual tactics can come into play.

>>
>>140362593
The opposite of cover being important would be cover not being important.

If that's the intent - why even have cover?

Actually, I'd even go a step further and have low cover railings, walls, etc. that you jump over, consume extra movement points as well. Maybe consuming 2 or even 3 points to cross over, rather than 1.

I have to agree, I enjoyed Impossible EW a few times just so I could make good use of all the different things you could get access to.
Legendary feels very systematic, my strategy for every single pod was exactly the same. Legendary is still very hard at times, don't get me wrong, but when things go right, it's pretty fucking straightforward and repetitive.

I'm currently enjoying legendary with all default classes removed, escalation classes, ADVENT/Ayy significantly buffed and increased pod sizes and numbers with 8 squad members max, grenade falloff etc, I've completely dropped Psi troopers and am using the mod that allows normal classes to train psi, but with limited capacity. I wanted to remove everything that felt gimmicky or extremely strong with no ADVENT counter, so mainly grenadiers and perfect explosives to be fair.

Only other thing I would possibly like to see is not only Officers being able to call in reinforcements, but for Officers to call mortar bombardment or strafing runs, something that would be similar to the floater pinions thing, but with a bigger AOE. This probably just makes officers even more dangerous than they already are with the reinforcement mod, but it'd be something that could force you to adapt your strategy in the field.

However, the strategic map is somehow fucking worse than EW, old Xcom or Xenonauts, all of which weren't exactly amazing on the strategic layer.

The prolonged firefights, tougher and more numerous enemies (but with less fragile squads due to less gimmicky and more functional abilities like suppression or holotargeting), significant grenade falloff (making most cover hard to destroy before plasma grenades, even with rockets), you get some really intense contact, pic related.
>>
>>140387365
What I liked about Long War the most was the AI. There were things you could choose to do in Long War depending on what ayys were revealed and even that could change depending on shots you have on them or different defense values etc.

XCOM2 is just too simple and obvious. It's a great game and worth it, we just need mods to fix the AI mainly.

First overhaul mod should focus on AI and balances centred around that. That attrition mod or whatever seems like a decent start though. I'm sure many of the Long War modders are taking a break from XCOM and probably will return after DLC and patching stops, since for overhauls that is the worst thing to deal with.
>>
>>140387365
I find most of the complaints about the strategy and tactics layer in Xcom2 overblown compared to vanilla Xcom2012. The games not perfect but its not the super easy paint by numbers game people seem to imply.

2012 EU really is not as complex as people make it out to be and much of the criticism about choice in the strategy layer applies just as much between the 2.

At the end of the day its a Firaxis game, you get a good (although inferior to finale state predecessors) game at launch and then with modding, expansions and DLCs you get a 10/10 classic

This has happened with Firaxis for years and I guarantee when Xcom 3 comes out we'll be doing the exact same except placing Xcom 2 in the place of xcom2012
>>
>>140387242
I'll repost when I do it again.
>>
>>140387365
I always felt that explosives should have a random placement, rather than perfect. Random placement, with less cover damage, smaller explosion radius, damage drop off, and more explosives in total.

Even better would be having cover mitigating explosive damage, but not entirely stopping it - with different types of explosives like high explosive for high damage to cover and one target, or fragmentation for moderate damage to a large area (mitigated by cover from the explosion point) and very little cover damage.
>>
Anyone going to fix the hairs in XCOM2?
>>
>>140388129

>First overhaul mod should focus on AI and balances centred around that.

That's what I've been aiming for to be honest.

ADVENT should not be too aggressive anyway, they do not have timers pressuring them to hurry up, they have superior numbers, and they have the dice on their side tactically and strategically.

The Improved AI mod is a good start, makes them more defensive, makes them prioritize use of explosives against XCOM operatives, also makes them free to take decisions and not forced to do certain things by game mechanics, like exploiting the evac zone to force overwatches on enemies nearby.

There's still a lot of work to do, but I'm very interested in seeing the AI develop a bit more.

Crusades mod when?
>>
Hey lads, I'm thinking we do this once and for all:

The /xcg/ modlist pastebin is SERIOUSLY lacking in terms of voicepacks and class mods when you consider the volumes of stuff that are actually out there on the workshop. It's an okay resource in all other categories, but it falls short in those two. Problem is I don't use any class mods besides Lucubration's and I'm opposed to voice packs in general. Because of that there weren't that many when I had just made it, and it's stayed that way since it's me doing the upkeep and mostly me suggesting new mods, then posting here to see if anybody's got any objections or additions.

I'm thinking some of you guys must be using voicepacks or class mods which are worth recommending. Hell, maybe you've even made one. Let's have a peek at those and talk about whether or not any hold up! Alternatively, we could settle for voicepacks being subjective and boot 'em from the list entirely, though I don't really feel that's entirely true. There's good and bad voicepacks, plain and simple.

Anyone care to share their two cents?

i got most of the gameplay and balance mods, i like the minor tweaks, all the units and some cosmetic mods. mainly what i though would compliment each other and vanilla gameplay. in fact, someone should compile all these into one mod

the only "hardcore" things i have is attrition and reinforcement, which haven't made the game unplayable.

which ones do you use?

If Beagle wants to try something else in the TMX stream he should try more 'uncommon' builds like an All-Ranger squad or stuff like it.

We are getting LW Beagles today right? RIGHT?!

Voice packs that work with the game without sounding out of place:

Zaeed
Splinter Cell Kestrel, and Sam Fisher
Japanese voice pack (well, I don't know what they actually say so it could be totally out of place)
Far cry Rex colt
Jack
Kasumi

Best one by far is sam fisher
>>
>>140407523

What about the FEAR Replica one?

The issue with some voice packs is they're TOO clear, a bit of static here and there could make a lot of packs (even some with lower quality samples) fit better into vanilla.

I had an infantry, previously ranger who was a fucking mad cunt and would constantly make clutch hits with aggressive moves.

Yeah, though if I had to guess, most of it is probably armor (perhaps with extra resistance to piercing weapons aka all ballistics) which means alot of the non-explosvie damage probably did nothing, or only hit for 1-10. Mercs are dicks. Their stats are high and their suits are tough. Capture one if you can, the analysis of their synthsuit will help you a lot in picking weapons to fight them. Early on, if you can kill and capture a few of these guys, you can learn to duplicate their suits, which are incredibly powerful early game and remain a useful option for a long time.

I think they're usually a little less heavily armed on terror missions than when you encounter them elsewhere, but they're still the strongest regular enemies in the game and without some pretty good weapons or a really solid plan you're probably just better off running away.

As the game is now, legendary is a bit too punishing early on (though lategame your soldiers start to become OP as fuck), but commander sometimes feels just right, but the game is short meaning each individual failure has more impact.

Might be because I'm more accustomed to Brutal Long War EW with the shorter campaign option, but I liked that because, while it wasn't extremely long, it was a long enough game that you were given the chance to recover from squadwipes or massive setbacks. The fatigue meant you had to rotate soldiers.

Perhaps something you're doing wrong is you're not rotating soldiers, you should have at least 2 good teams of soldiers and then 1 or 2 teams worth backup, imo. Minimizing casualties becomes easier late on, but new recruits are highly valuable early on.
The GTS rookie training is a great function for this.

>>
>>140504270

Baby steps.

LW wasn't made in a day, I think it's a mistake to see LW = difficult.
That's still kind of true, but the purpose of LW is to create less systematic and utterly predictable gameplay, with a bit more decisionmaking and in ways, longer more interesting firefights.
>>
>>140504234
Theres nice buffs to longevity and then theres the 90 health heavily self repairing Sectopod Titanwith enough defensive perks to make even sneezing at it result in a squad wipe

also fuck you thin man Typhoon with you cross map crit sniping
>>
>>140504515
This.

Only impossible was about difficulty. Normal was about playing how you want and adapting your style of gameplay.
>>
>>140504515
How is it not more difficult? Theres a lot of things in LW that are without a doubt difficult even on normal, especially in the early-mid game when you're going to lose people whatever you do because you're fighting leader ayys in massive pods with massive aim, hp and DR and you just don't have the firepower or health to stop them.

Long War is fun and all but its certainly difficult, especially if its your first playthrough and you haven't tweaked the inis. I feel some people have played LW so many times here and have all the mildly cheesy strategies and tactics down so they forget how difficult it is for most people.
>>
>>140504790

I think one of the more interesting things to come out of LW was how the team clearly wanted to make the alien units into actual military units that were fufilling roles. A lot of the modified alien abilities tended to make each alien into specific 'classes' or roles.

For instance, floaters became skirmishers and flanking units (as they were before somewhat), but were given abilities that made them almost into proto-assaults with archangel, they did not possess the raw tanking power, but their abilities made them a real threat to your flanks from any position.

Heavy floaters, while possibly TOO powerful, also saw an important role change. Probably the most threatening anti-armor unit on the alien side, and it makes total sense that you'd make an airborne, highly mobile unit that packs a heavy punch about armor. It made you think very carefully about your MECs and SHIVs when dealing with them.

Everything from sectoids to mutons to sectopods were given roles to fufill in LW that became well defined.
Admittedly, some units (like mechs) just became behemoths and incredibly difficult to deal with without proper preparation, without having very well defined roles.

I think a good direction to go with redesigning aliens and ADVENT in X2, would be to give them well defined roles that they're GOOD at. Take MECs for instance, what the fuck is the point in advent MECs? Literally just long range explosives, which is alright, but a rather simple unit at it's core, not possessing the raw tanking power to really tank any kind of fire by the time you start to meet them regularly.
>>
>>140505542

>How is it not more difficult?

I wasn't debating whether it was difficult. I'm debating that you should just see the entire Long War concept as being 'difficulty'.

You can easily make the case that Impossible EW is far, far harder than Normal or Classic Long War. You could even make the case that Classic EW is harder in some ways than Normal LW. LW gives a lot of abilities to XCOM that allow more tactical choices and freedom, but equally, the aliens were given many tactical abilities and functions to give them more ability.

Long War Normal with Friendly skies and Cinematic mode is not much harder than the vanilla game for the most part, but still improves the game significantly over vanilla in terms of choices even without being more difficult.
>>
>>140505545
Most units in Xcom2 have fairly well defined roles, they're just not taken to the lengths of Long War where they become frightenelly good at what they do.

Sure theres a few outliers like MECs and Berserkers but every other unit has some sort of purpose and fit in an Advent pod, Firaxis do want to keep the game accessible to all which considering how much people complain about hard the tactical layer is already (outside of here obviously, just check reviews and reddit) making it even harder would be bad for business. They left the game so moddable so the more dedicated fans can build their more complex and demanding difficulty quickly and easily and its mostly worked, just look at the modlists.
>>
>>140505834
I would say increasing difficulty was one of the main concepts behind Long War, just because you can set up an easy mode doesn't change the fact it was intended to be played in a far more difficult manner which to the average player is more difficult than Classic EW (Impossible suffers from Firaxis max difficulty syndrome), sure its more difficult to actually lose a LW game than a classic EW but the majority of the gameplay is without a doubt more difficult.
>>
>>140506550
They removed much of the predictability of ayys and made them feel alive. It was just generic difficulty it was making you think what to do at every pod or battle.
>>
>>140506202
>>140506550

I appreciate the points, you're probably right about difficulty being a major concept in LW. I guess what I was getting at was doing things purely for the sake of bolting difficulty onto the game without careful consideration is something to avoid. I kind of got that feeling from some LW changes.

Also X2 does have very well defined classes, I guess I was kind of harping on MECs

>>140506873

LW should increase difficulty, but make the aliens feel like they're an actual opponent that is improving and doing things to counter what you're doing. That was possibly the most interesting thing LW brought to EW, thinking about it.
>>
>>140507019
Yeah, bolting difficulty on for the sake for it isn't a good thing and a fair part of LW avoided that, there were still some examples of where the game broke that rule primarily in the DLC missions, Exalt Missions and some of the Boss ayys. At least the tweakability lets you remove a fair portion of the more artifical aspects of the difficulty.

I presume MEC's are so underwhelming because the enemy using cover destroying explosives increases the difficulty quite a bit and tanky artillery unit wouldn't have been very fun for a lot of the audience especially considering how early they can show up

I'm also impressed that an "argument" on /vg/ didn't descend into shit flinging, /xcg/ can be super chill at times
>>
To think XCOM2 will have a dedicated mod TEAM, not a couple of fucksicle modders raging over anyone stealing their shit like skyrim or fallout.

Hello
Person with minimal knowledge of long schlong here
To me the difficulties for XCom and LW looks like:
Vanilla Easy
Vanilla Medium
A boner
Vanilla Classic
Vanilla Impossible
A boner
Walking through Detroit with a suit made of fried chicken
Diamond, the hardest metal known to man
LW Easy
LW Medium
LW Classic
LW Impossible

And I really dont want to bother with installing it because I/I kicks my ass and I'd have no fun with LW
>>
>>140509530

Long War does add many abilities to the aliens, but it also makes XCOM operatives so much more... useful.

I don't want to say powerful, because vanilla had some super OP xcom stuff, but LW has 8 classes, each is very functional right from the start and they all have very important roles in a squad. There may be 3 choices per rank, but each choice has more impact than many choices you see even in vanilla.

Long War is also more difficult, it removes the 'cheats' that the game gives the player on Normal, it makes aliens more useful, and makes them very effective at certain tasks.

It also gives the player so much more flexibility from much earlier on. 6-8 Squadmembers, SHIVs having far more upgrades and uses, less punishing for losing soldiers (arguably). XCOM can fight back from really dire straights compared to vanilla.

It's more like.

Vanilla Easy-Normal (not even playing the game)
Long War Normal + cinematic and friendly skies options.
Vanilla Classic
Long War Normal
Vanilla Brutal
Long War Classic
Long War Brutal
EW Impossible.
Long War Impossible

Depends how you define difficulty. In Impossible EW, you can be pretty badly fucked and raped, and then lose a campaign pretty quickly with a few bad missions. In Impossible LW, you actually have a bit more room for error in comparison.
>>
I wish Xcom 2012 had a missile silo map like The Bureau, it would make sense for the aliens to at least poke their heads around one

After a smaller hiatus, your least favorite XCOM2 playthrough besides from your own is back! This time, it's one of those hellish assassinate VIP on PR run missions from the Additional Mission Types mod.

Word got to headquarters at noon - a civilian scientist imperative to ADVENT's avatar project had been spotted in a clandestine research facility on the outskirts of the Siberian ruins of Norilsk. We needed to bring him in or risk a major breakthrough on their end. Going on the operation wasn't an order I gave lightly - those of you who've been with Red Crown-regiment from the get-go might remember another VIP assassination we did early on during the campaign, and the tragedy it ended in.
Outgunned and outnumbered, squad leader Ampelle "Rear Guard" Derreríenette chose to make a suicide attack on the collaborator, giving her life to rescue her squad and engineer Patsy Tidsahuey from ADVENT's clutches. Fearful of a repeated disaster, we kit out the finest squad we have to put a damper on the dictature's plans.

Actual 1-5 is the regiment's field commander, and one of the most experienced ground operatives we have. Naturally he was called upon to lead the mission - he handpicked a squad of our best and brightest, and that was that. Most of these guys know each other well, with one exception - Punished 7-1, who joined up via the black market as the sole survivor of a former XCOM splinter faction. Recognizing his gusto and combat experience, he was an easy choice with our roster as strained as it is. We strapped them up with as much ammunition, medikits. explosive capability and flashbangs as they could carry, and we sent them on their way.

I'd probably tone it down on unrelated posts though, all it takes is one angry mod or janny to arbitrarily decide because they're from your playthroughs and they're not directly related to the post to ban you for a convulted interpretation of the avatarfagging rule per the feedback section and it would be a shame to lose your storytime and pastebins.

So, who would pay for a rerelease of XCOM EW with the Procedural map system and gameplay mechanics updated using the XCOM 2 engine?

I sure as hell would.
>>
>>140541025
No, he's quoting someone, not stating that himself
>>
>>140502030
I dunno, I think Vanilla EW still has the biggest cost of failing a mission because of the brutal panic system and how you had little control over it until you got every sat covered. You could lose an impossible campaign by just failing a single mission.

In my first Commander Ironman win in XCOM 2 I lost 7 missions.
>>
Not sure I'll get much in the way of replies here with all these reptile fanatics around, but I'm wondering if anybody else has seen the game's line of sight mechanics absolutely shit the bed--like with troopers overwatching through entire buildings and creeping right through your own overwatches to shoot your dude in the face. Ironman and modding was maybe a bad mistake. I've got a large list of mods enabled, some of which it seems are not /xcg/ approved, so I thought I'd throw it out there if anybody has any idea what might be up

He's just picking up his old Long War campaign for the most part, and there isn't an XCOM2 Long War yet to scratch the itch.

Tuesdays is XCOM2 and Thursdays are back to Long War.
>>
>>140562334
This is him finally deciding to finish his LnI campaign, which he started on June 30th, 2014, with LW beta 11. He had aimed to complete it before XCOM 2 launched, but in the few months prior he completely burned himself out on LW due to having like 3 simultaneous campaigns he was playing on Twitch and Youtube.

As for the switch to LW on Thursdays, he wanted to go back to it because he never finished a beta 15/final release campaign, and I think playing a lot of XCOM 2 was starting to bore him.

>>
I have downloaded some of the mods in the pastebin, but there were no second wave like mods in there. Any second wave mods /xcg/ would recommend that would is not buggy or broken?
>>
I'm so pissed about the LWS Tool Box, mainly because it's incompatible with half of the good mods on the Workshop. I checked which class overrides it overwrites, and here's a list of straight up incompatibilities:

- Max Squad Size Fix
- Show Enemies on Mission Planning
- ShowMeTheSkills
- Squad Cohesion
- Uniforms Manager
- Upgrade Reminder
- Free Camera Rotation
- Soldier Fatigue

This is generous too - I only counted actually conflicting class overrides, things which doesn't work together at all. For soft conflicts which cause strange things to happen like specific features or UI elements which stop working, the list is a LOT larger. Fairly sure it's a highlander mod as well, further fucking with compatibility.

I was the first one to get pumped when they said it included fully supported 12-man squads where you could see them on the deployment screen, Red Fog and Not Created Equally, but this is pretty silly - it shouldn't be the only mod a guy can use. Way fucking dumb.

By the way, I was going to put it in the modlist, but now I'm fairly opposed to the idea when everything else in there works well together. What d'ya reckon?
>>
>>140586591

They're pretty comparable to LW rocketeers, the rockets can veer and, unlike EXOsuit rockets, don't always hit bullseye. The soldier's aim stat determines how accurate rockets are. If rockets are fired without moving they get full accuracy (rookies still get about 60% chance to hit).

However, using a mod like Steady Weapon, you can use an action to finish a turn with 20+ accuracy next turn if the soldier doesn't move.

At low ranks their aim is low, so steady aim is pretty important to actually hit accurately with rockets, but higher ranked soldiers don't need this much. Rocketeers have very good aim progression, higher ranking soldiers can even fire rockets accurately after moving (known as 'snapshot' firing).

They work well with explosives falloff and escalation/lubrications classes. The rockets have good range but this range is lower if the soldier is snapshotting.
If you pick the 'Javelin missiles' skill, they get a huge range boost, further than exosuit rockets I think.
>>
>>140590598
I don't know wtf the long war guys are doing, but they're doing everything wrong.

I was pumped to download toolbox, but quite frankly if they haven't fixed the incompatibilities in 8ish hours, I'm uninstalling it and putting the other mods back in.

They literally just went, "fuck everyone else's mods". Shit, they even fucked over their OWN mods. The long war toolbox doesn't even work with the fucking leader pack.

That's just sheer incompetence/laziness.

I've said it before, but I really want a 'call artillery strike' ability for ADVENT Officers.

1 turn delay like Pinions or the Sectopod heavy weapon.

It'd force your soldiers to move around a little, but more importantly, I want to see mortar shells tearing the battlefield apart as they thud into the ground.

Explosions are always fucking cool. It'd probably be insane without explosion damage falloff.

Hell, maybe you could give the ayys more grenades, but change Hunker Down to work outside of cover and to give 50% damage reduction to explosions.

I need more explosions, Grenadiers are too boring, I need lots of explosions but less lethal explosions than vanilla.
