the phrase "Linking the Flame" refers to linking the flame to the linker's own soul -- light or dark or even chaos (wouldn't that be a sight to see) doesn't matter. the linkage keeps it alive.

FURTHERMORE, I'd go so far as to say that the Flame wasn't intended to be linked. It was meant to go out, and stay snuffed forever, like a normal flame. Gwyn linking it the first time fucked with it, and somehow gave it the ability to spontaneously light itself in the darkness. The neverending cycle was not meant to be. Hence the "first sin"

I was replaying the series after being away for awhile. During my break I was playing new releases throughout the years. I was wishing more games where like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, but also that Dark Souls was more like other games. Here's what I'd like to see in future installments and why.


I'd like to see lives. Same way as Contra. Fall to death, quickly respawn with only 3 lives to spare.

Social hub world. Same way as Destiny. Go to market place, enchance items, meet new players.

Maps. Find treasure box, get pieces of a map until you can fill out the whole thing in one area. See, there's a meta game within it's use without gimping difficulty.

Soul Calibur weapons. Come on Namco, give me Nightmare's eyeball sword.

Costume shops. Dress anyway you'd like without worrying about enhancing armour. Armour could be applied to character's skin.

Normal jumping and vaulting. I mean come on, it's an adventure game standard.

Toggle lock on system to holding button. Z-targetting Zelda anyone?

Ingame button remapping. For convience sake.

Dos and don'ts. Reduce loading as much as possible. Show pictures to each location like in DS2. BB text format, I dispise you.

The first part, not so much. The level transitions being largely a straight line is unappealing.

For the second, yes, it is pretty much okay when Miyazaki did it, because Dark Souls 3's references usually serve a purpose. They develop on the concepts DaS presented like a logical sequel. Other than the Children of Dark, DaS2's references just existed for their own sake without any function. The major counterexample is Solaire's set being overhyped in universe when DaS presented it as being largely unimpressive gear that just happened to be used by a very impressive person.

Nah, I prefer the specters you see every now and again of real players. Gives you some feeling of hope and camaraderie, but not enough to ruin the despairing atmosphere of the game.

Anor Londo is a classic sequel moment. Getting past the ingrained feeling that anything brought back from DaS is "lazy" or a "rehash" is the first step to being able to enjoy it.

It's one of the only aggressive bosses in the game, which messes some people up. I repeatedly suicide rushed (before knowing where it was safe) the dragons in 1-1 for all their shit, including PFS on my first character so it was a pretty easy fight for me the first time around.

I don't fault the game that much for it. It was a new thing altogether, they probably never expected the PVP to be so popular. The probably thought someone might invade every now and then to break up the flow of the game a bit, but I really don't think they ever foresaw organized fight clubs and people meticulously breaking down and learning every moveset and glitch possible to up their game.

You pretty much want to be directly under either set of legs, alternating between which ones you haven't broken this cycle. Eventually you'll break his lightning, he'll scurry off to get it back, you chase him down and break his legs again while he's doing it.

It's a fast fight and you have to keep up with him, but if you match his pace, he's not much of a problem.

Any Stat point invested except VIT can be drained down to their base levels. Anytime you get Soul Sucked/Drained you lose one point of the currently highest stat invested in that's not VIT. For example if I went 41 LUCK by accident I could have it drained by 1 point and go down a SL, that point is gone.

They hardly believed the game would sell. That's probably how invaders got through so unmolested into DaS, because most of the development was done by the time DeS really picked up.

Now the fanbase has become this unwieldy beast they just don't know how to handle. They're too worried about pleasing entry level players to satisfy invaders, and the more empowered invaders are, the more anxious the casuals get.

It would take a fighting game level of quality control to truly explore invasions as a mechanic, but it was certainly an inspired direction to go in. It's a shame it was simply too much for such a small studio to pull off.

Anything with C/C is good. Claymore is probably the best.
Aside from that, Bastard Sword is a viable alternative, Halberd for the stab r1s, Murakumo if you plan on going 28/40, Zweihander / Greatsword, etc.
