Jesus the detail on the F-14 is fucking incredible. Makes me wonder about performance though.
>>
>>137225475
>Something many of you have concerns about is performance. We're taking a very pro-active stance on ensuring that performance is optimal at release this time around.
We very much wish to ensure that the F-14 will perfectly on the vast majority of systems, and approaching things more carefully from the beginning will make it easier for us to make adjustments in the future.
>>
>>137225475
"We have a number of techniques in mind to maximize texture and model fidelity while ensuring excellent performance; but as always-- we build our artwork to be downsized, rather than the other way around."

Oh good. The MiG-21 had some major performance issues when it first released, mainly due to LoD issues if I recall correctly.

FUCKING HYPED DESU
>>
>>137225856
Honestly I'm trying to keep hype for the F-14 to a minimum right now so I can make it till 2025 when it's released.

But I'm still hyped as fuck for the Viggen and Gazelle.

And it was actually vertex count, it had too many texture parts, and every time you split a texture in place for the model you double the amount of vertices in that area, too many of that, and it all goes into the shitter, it's still has bad optimization though.

What do these release videos actually mean? The module is out of beta/pre-release? There were a couple of other videos posted a couple of weeks ago (Mig-21 I believe), I thought they were just reuploads.

What new has been added that wasn't in the game prior? Do they actually have functioning training missions (more than just cold start, etc.), campaigns, etc.?

>>
>>137280223
They added training missions and tweaked a few final things. Same as the MiG-15 a few weeks ago.

Yeah it's dumb, but that's BST for ya. They should just not bother with the beta tag, it makes their modules look less complete than they are.
>>
Is LN still aiming for a 2016 release for their F-14?
>>
>>137282843
yup
>>
>>137233478
Simply put it is whatever speed you need to keep the desired AOA for landing. For example the F-16 on speed AOA is 13 degrees on a 3 degree glideslope; so basically it's whatever speed puts you flight path indicator on the -3 degree mark while your nose is pinned at +10 degrees. This speed changes depending on your weight.

The reason for doing this is that it's more important that you fly the correct profile than it is you land at a given speed. Basically you want to pitch up as far as you safely can without a ground strike as this means you can go the slowest possible.

There is literally nothing wrong with arcade or sim-lite flight games.
>>
>>137299808
I found all of the huey missions boring, up until I quit them. I can't remember doing any actual missions, just senpai flights, ferrying the helicopter between airports and that stupid reporter mission. I think I may have done a single troop transport (if that, I just remember landing at red smoke, it's been a while).

There might be some decent ones later on but the 6th mission in a row you get that's nothing but a 60 minute A-B mission (with quality DCS mission making so half the time one of the check points doesn't trigger and you can't end the mission, or you do it all fine and land, and don't get the mission complete screen and can't progress. That happened to me 2 or 3 times on reporter mission I believe, after about 5 hours of in-game flying I just dropped the campaign)

F-14A is a very different plane from the F-14D, which is the F-14 most people think of when they talk about how hot shit they think the F-14 was.

It's still kind of a glorified Phantom though.
>>

Cool, thanks for announcing it in the thread.

Or were they TeamSpeak exclusive ops??
>>

Nothing exclusive about them, but not every op has room for more than 10 people and the ones at do take forever to make.

Seriously though, why all those shortcomings, especially on such a large and expensive plane?

It's contemporary to the F-16A, F-15A, yet as far as I can tell those planes had advanced HUD, RWR, electrical backup etc

My guess would be where their priorities lie. The F-14's primary mission was fleet defense, which meant intercepting bombers as fast as possible. The F-14 is no slouch in technical gizmos with its fuck huge radar and fuck huge active radar missiles. It's an impressive system even today, as it should be able to out-detect anything this side of an AESA.

Did you say FUCK HUGE RADAR?
>>
>>137314329
It entered service in 1974 and was amazingly impressive and sophisticated for its time.

The Navy just had different priorities in their fighter than the Air Force. The USAF really saw the need for the TEWS after Vietnam, but the USN were less stringent in the requirements they set out for the F-14. They were more concerned about big fughueg missiles and a huge fire control radar than pouring money into advanced computerised avionics that at the time where only really a thing on the F-15A & AJ 37. Because of this lack of processing power the hud is pretty shit yeah.

First plane to use integrated circuits, which was a big deal in 1971.
>>
>>137317274

Well it's a long range interceptor meant to destroy bombers. It's so fuck huge that it can go afterburner all day.

So I guess if you can go fast, poop out your missiles at enemy bombers in one pass, and just run away from the escorts you don't need more Gs than that.

It's like the granddaddy of the Mig-25
>>
>>137317440

Did it do anything special with it (like more advanced radar/ rwr/ HUD) or did it just result in smaller avionics?
>>
>>137317728
It was meant to help reduce the workload to a manageable amount for just one pilot. So you had shit like:
A terrain mapping radar.
True CCIP & CCRP not based on gyros.
An RWR with data recording features.
Anti-ship missiles.
A HUD, nothing too fancy but at least not a lagg fest like the F-14A.

It'd be kinda hard to upgrade the MiG-19 with more capable A2A function, without modifying the nose section extensively. Putting a radar on that nose would require changing that air intake drastically, to the point of impracticality.

I never understood civilian flight sims, especially airliners.

You spend 15 minutes doing checks and start up, take off, and then you're sitting on autopilot for the next 6-12 hours, until it's time to land, which takes another 15 minutes. I don't know how people can just sit there staring at the horizon for 8 hours straight, unless they're being paid a lot of money for it like actual pilots are.

Helicopters, and small aircraft like Cessnas I understand because in most cases you're actually the one flying them, the trips are shorter and you can practice with them if you want to get a civilian license. If you're at the point where you're playing airliner sims, it's probably far too late for you to actually get a job in that field.
>>

Hmmm, most pilots are being shafted when it comes to wages. In Southern Europe many First officers are paying to be in the cockpit.

Do you know much about the hawk itself? I'm wondering if the HUD we're using in the module is the actual one the aircraft gets, or if it's just a placeholder.

I don't even understand the symbology of it.

I guess the top dot is the nose line of the aircraft, the dot beneath it is the weapons line? No idea what the moving reticule is supposed to indicate.

And also is it possible to set a mission up in the air where the seekers start pre-cooled, instead of the game beginning you in the middle of a dogfight and you have to somehow survive 2+ minutes without being able to return fire because you have to enable the coolant.

Pic vaguely related, just wanted one where you can kind of see the HUD for reference. The new textures look amazing if you compare them to this shit to be honest, I actually forgot how bad they are/were.

>>137359859
What does the information on the display actually mean then?

The moving reticule surely can't be for any accurate guns employment since it isn't being fed any radar information (or even old gyroscopic information where you punch in range to target and wingspan?) It can't be for missile employment since I imagine the missiles would be tied to boresight (at least partially, since they can scan, but I can never get that to work, not least because there's no lock on tone and I hate having to look away from the front of my aircraft to see if I'm locked or not)

I really have no clue.

On another note, is it possible to ramp up the rate of fire for the rocket pods? They seem to fire insanely slow for how minuscule their explosive content is (massive rockets you can understand why they'd have a slower rate of fire, but these are so small they surely need to be fired in a volley like those on the L39, etc.), whereas unless I'm missing something, they seem to fire at about 1 (single, not pair) per second.

I'll admit I'm just fannying on in the aircraft and haven't played the tutorials (not since I was conned into buying it years ago, at least, forgot most of that)

assuming the cpu will keep it fed (as i understand that's the major issue on dcs), it'll maintain 60fps at medium/high settings? or should i just get a better card?

Pretty much all kinds with very good simulation depth. I'd prefer small jets since I have no idea how all that pitch/mixture stuff works. But any is fine desu. Not a fan of big fat jumbos but whatever.
>>
>>137387774
Small jets you say? I really like the QualityWings BAE 146/Avro RJ (as seen in >>137351842 >>137349367) Not super in depth (no failure modelling), has pretty much everything else though.

If you want something a little bigger and more complex, PMDG's 737 model is excellent.
>>
>>137387774
>I have no idea how all that pitch/mixture stuff works
Mixture: the proportion between air and fuel. The higher you go, the more you decrease mixture, if you're on the ground at sea level you can set it to more than 100%.

Prop pitch: Like gears in cars. In IL-2 1946 100% prop pitch is like the first gear, in other sims it's the other way around.
>>
>>137388320
Oh and about prop pitch and power settings: if you want to haul ass you set throttle at 100% and then modify the prop pitch so that the engine remains on the power band (the, so to say, optimal value). If you want to fly with more efficiency you leave the prop pitch at the optimal value and decrease throttle.
>>
>>137388195
Alright I think I will go with the PMDG pack since it's available on a certain site.

Also how the fuck can I activate mouse look and zoom in P3D? This shit behaves like fucking FSX what is this?

So when is the DCS patch actually rolling out? I thought it was out by now. The one that adds non-horrendous (just mostly horrendous) textures, sidewinder audio (also horrendous), etc.?

Also, I haven't been following development because I didn't really play much of it (only bought it on sale), but does Battle of Moscow plug into BoS, similar to the DCS modules? Or is it going to be a separate title? Just wondering, I can't imagine I'll actually play it before it gets massively discounted.
>>
>>137419838
It was a beta patch, it's on the beta branch and will likely hit stable on Friday.
>>
>>137420032
Is there a way to switch to dev branch (not steam) without having to reinstall all 20 odd gigs (I know I could copy the files into the new folder but I'm too lazy to do that as well)?

Do we typically play multiplayer on dev or stable?
>>
>>137420325
>Do we typically play multiplayer on dev or stable?
Stable.

and afaik when you install beta it copies most of the files across from stable rather than re-downloading them
>>
>>137420325
If you use the standalone non-steam game then you can use the command line updater program to install whatever version of the game you want at any time without a full reinstall.
>>
>>137420501
>>137420494
Cheers.

If we play on stable I'll just not bother and wait for the regular release of the patch, then. I can't be bothered with multiple versions installed at the same time.
>>
>>137403627
If you've already moved pass the detent, then just realize that that part of the startup is bugged and weird. I think the best I've been able to do is just go full throttle with it and cycle between full and idle a few times. It's something to do with the way Falcon interprets the throttle and how it seems to be out of sync until you "calibrate it" during a flight.

It's all kinds of strange. There's actually a setting in the Configurator that changes how that step works in the plane so it's less trouble.
>>
>>137420325
You can switch over your current install by doing "update @openbeta" on the Updater, and "update @release" to go back to the stable branch.

This thread has all the info on the Updater.

One SEAD aircraft froze and crashed into a mountain and the other stalled trying to dodge a MiG-31. Then the remaining strike aircraft got rest over the target due to no SEAD.

>which racing games are considered sims
In no particular order: Assetto Corsa, rFactor 1/2, Game Stock Car/Automobilista, RaceRoom Racing Entertainment, Project CARS, and iRacing.

>which are actually fun I should buy?
>fun

What racing sim you want/like will depend a lot on what you're looking to get out of it.

>Dirt Rally
Pretty great game overall if you like rally driving. Not much else to say.

>Assetto Corsa
Great for hotlapping and decent sized MP, but no SP worth speaking of.

>rFactor 2
Autismo express and extremely realistic, but has serious lack of content and what it does have is super patchwork. Great SP experience, non-existent MP because it requires a separate online pass.

>Game Stock Car/Automobilista
Probably the most content/feature complete, but YMMV when it comes to the obscure series included. Great SP, very tiny MP community.

>RaceRoom
Pretty fun to drive and is inundated with content, but you have to pay for it all with an over-complicated and obtuse pay model. Pretty good SP, very tiny MP community due to horrible content fragmentation from its pay model. This my go to racing sim.

>Project CARS
The game is a trainwreck of bugs, fuckups, and stupid design decisions, but on the rare occasion shit works, it's >fun. It's hard to sum this game up because for everything it does amazingly well (graphics, muh immershun, lots of little things) it completely fucks up something else (AI, stupid physics bugs, lots of little things). When it works, good SP and decent sized MP community.

>iRacing
The only real answer if you want to primarily play MP. Has no SP whatsoever. If you want to get into this you better have deep pockets because you have to pay a monthly subscription as well as buy each car/track individually.
>>
>>137437469
I never thought that the racing sim scene was such a trainwreck.

I love that in BMS other players can see your pilots head move in every direction.

DCS sorta has it, but its just left and right. BMS is way more precise.

The whole genre is kinda shit desu right now, so it's mostly about just trying everything and going with which package you like the most. Unlike modern combat flight sims where you have 2 very good and complimentary options (DCS and BMS), racing sims you have a dearth of unfinished feeling options that you choose the one with the downsides you can deal with the most.

It's hard not to end up owning or at least trying all the sims out there because they're all good and bad at different things.

Richard Burns didn't go anywhere. If you want to play it you still can. Ditto for GTR2.

I know there's a handful of autistic fucks who cannot stand that DIRT Rally exists and will wax lyrical about RBR is God's Racing Sim, but I can't speak for RBR myself because I'm not big into rally and didn't play it.

As for GTR2 (and Race 07), it's still a great package overall, but it definitely shows its age and nowadays I find the physics and FFB to be weird.
>>
>>137437469
Something else I overlooked because I was trying to keep it brief was modding. I know for some people this is make or break.

>Assetto Corsa
Super moddable and has a shit ton of mods. It's becoming, if not already is,the modern rFactor in terms of how many cars/tracks are available. Quality is all over the place.

>rFactor 2
Not many mods available because rF2's physics are complicated enough to scare away most mod teams. In theory though, it's just as moddable as rFactor 1.

>GSC/Automobilista
Super moddable because it's glorified rFactor 1. Fewer mods, but they tend to be higher quality because they're ports of the good stuff from rFactor 1.

>RaceRoom
No modding and always online.

>Project CARS
No modding either, but at least it doesn't require a constant internet connection to play.

>iRacing
No modding whatsoever due to its online competitive matchmaking format. Skins can be modified through a third party program that everybody runs and you can see other people's skins.

I have a really hard time recommending any racing sims to people because they're all so different and people's opinions on them vary so wildly. I started with Forza too. Everybody starts somewhere.

I want to recommend Project CARS because for a lot of reasons it's the perfect introduction to simracing, but the game is so fucked that it totally squandered its opportunity in that much needed niche.

I'm biased towards R3E because it's my favorite, but the nice thing about R3E is that its easy to pick up because of its simplicity and the free content after the recent overhaul is pretty damn good. You can just download it with nothing to lose to see if it's for you. Be advised that should you want to get into it, paying for it is complicated and you should do your research.

Aside from those, Assetto Corsa is the sim I play the second most often, mostly because it (and Project CARS) are the only ones with big enough communities to reliably have some servers to race on. I haven't played AC in a while though, because the latest R3E updates have been great. Assetto Corsa has awesome physics that just "feel" good, but it's SP is worthless, so it's either hotlapping or racing online.

Honorable mention to GSC and Automobilista for them being super fully featured, being relatively cheap, and having a good amount of content. Personally, I could never get into the game, but it's a really solid all-around product. You can try a demo of sorts of GSC by downloading Copa Petrobras de Marcas on Steam. It's a standalone version of one of the series included in GSC. It's fully featured aside from having only one series and one handful of tracks.

I guess one thing to keep in mind as well is that there is no Forza equivalent on PC. No racing sim out there has the same level of polish, sheer volume of content, approachability, or progression. There's not much to DO in a racing sim aside from race cars around tracks.

>FLIR in a third party module is better than ED's
Explain this.
>>
>>137446601
Its the exact some as ED's, the blaring issue with FLIR right now is the new ground textures that came with 1.5 in the black sea map that render it useless, that video of course was in nttr so there is no problem, download some ground textures for the black sea (I recommend bartheks) and enjoy working FLIR again.
>>
>>137442008
The absolute minimum is a Logitech DFGT. They don't make these new anymore, but they're pretty damn cheap and are good enough for a new driver. Hell, some of the best drivers out there use a DFGT. I used a DFGT for about a year. The DFGT uses gears and a bit noisy.

The Logitech G27 is the standard go to all-around wheel because it hits a great compromise between quality, features, and price. It's got 3 pedals, an H-shifter, it's reliable, and has very solid FFB. Now that Logitech does't make these any more, the price for these has skyrocketed though, so what used to be an amazing deal is no longer one. The G27 uses 2 gears for FFB and is much quieter than the DFGT.

The Thrustmaster T150 is a relatively new low end wheel by Thrustmaster. I don't know much about this, but I haven't heard anything terrible about it. The T150 uses a combination belt and gear system.

Beyond that, things get expensive.

Logitech G29 is a hybrid DFGT and G27. It has a shit ton of buttons (I like this, but some don't) and improved pedals. FFB is practically identical to G27. This does NOT come with a H-Shifter. Again, whether or not that matters to you is a personal preference. Personally, I don't give a shit, but this is a deal breaker for some. The G29's biggest problem is that it's ridiculously over-priced for what it is. The hardware itself is fine.

T300RS is the cheapest belt driven wheel. Comes with only 2 pedals and no H-Shifter, but the wheel is interchangeable with a bunch of other rims you can buy, and the pedals can be swapped out with other TM pedals. FFB is much smoother and quieter than the Logitech gears, but lacks the immediate yank that you get with gears. The T300RS's biggest problem is that Thrustmaster is the Saitek of the simracing world and is notorious for absolute garbage QA. I sent back mine for a replacement only a week of use.

Wheels beyond that are way too expensive for a newcomer unless you wipe your ass with 20s and don't give a shit.

And then there's iRacing. iRacing is such a unique case in the simracing world that it's worth mentioning. It's the only racing sim out there that actually tries in terms of multiplayer (which is a real shame), and is practically a racing MMO. If you really want to play multiplayer in simracing, your options are iRacing or the scraps of iRacing. I wouldn't be surprised if iRacing had more MP players than all the other sims combined.

First things first: iRacing is perfectly fine to play as a new guy as long as you put in time to practice so that you can finish a 30 minute race with minimal incidents. If you can go 10 consecutive laps without spinning out or running into a wall, then you're already way ahead the average driver in the Rookie leagues.

iRacing is the only modern racing sim with progression. You start out in Rookies and eventually move up based on how well you do and how safe you drive. Driving poorly and wrecking people will shit on your stats and can easily drop you down a class or get you banned entirely if you really go out of you way to ruin races.

The "problem" with iRacing though is two-fold.

One is that because of its more competitive and autistic nature, you need to practice, and you need to dedicate time to it. For some, this is no big deal and actually a good thing. Whatever your thoughts, just keep in mind that iRacing is a VERY time consuming game.

The other is that it's expensive. Yes, there are ways to game the system and reduce the cost, but there's no getting around that iRacing is by far the most expensive racing sim out there by a long ways. It requires a monthly subscription (~$10 a month) as well as the individual purchase of every car ($5-10) and track ($10-15). Once you get out of the Rookie free content, be prepared to spend at least the price of a full price game if you want to race every week in a series.

Man setting up BMS is such a hassle. I downloaded Iron's X52 Pro profile, but for the view control I get this weird input lag. Like I move the thumbstick, and sometimes it reacts right away, but a few "inputs" seem to be delayed for 2-3 seconds. Really weird.

Not that guy, I've never been into racing sims (still don't have my driving license) but since getting into flying it interests me a bit more, haven't played a racing game since I went to Turkey on holiday at like age 6 and played with the hotel manager's sons wheel (no homo).

The G27 price is insane right now, but it has the minimum features that I want in a stick (clutch, gear stick). Is there anything else that's in the affordable price range that has 3 pedals + a gear stick?
>>
>>137470959
I don't think there are many that come with an H shifter plus clutch apart from high end stuff, the G25 I think does, I don't remember seeing anything comparative when I bought my G27 bar the G25 but that was 6 or 7 years ago.

Alright, looks like the lag was cause by the retarded X-52 profile, which set the mouse axis on the thumbstick to pg up/pg down which didn't quite work.

Is there a way how I can always have the mouse cursor in the middle of my screen, but still be able to click shit? Pretty much like holding RMB, but I cannot find any bindings for LMB or RMB?

>>137470959
>Is there anything else that's in the affordable price range that has 3 pedals + a gear stick?
I suppose if you can somehow find a G25, but that's even older than the G27. There is no modern cheap package with everything that comes with the G27.

I think an H-shifter for simracing is overrated anyway. People get excited about having one when looking to buy wheels, but then they go virtually unused once the gimmick wears off because the gear stick will never feel remotely like a real gear stick. A lot of the satisfying coordination you get in a real car just isn't there. It feels very distinctly like a video game. It's also objectively slower than just using the paddles if you decide to race online with it, so you're only gimping yourself.

I guess some people are in it for muh immershun, and maybe if you're one of those it matters, but I just see it as taking up space on my desk. The G27 stick has half its buttons on the gear stick part, so it's hard to just leave it in a box and ignore it. I think the biggest advantage you get out of the gear stick is having something to map a handbrake to if you do rally games or drifting.

Depends on what you are trying to get out of the game though

Personally I enjoy a 'slow' drive in a car with full manual on something like Lake Louise in AC just enjoying the drive itself

I also find it easier to drift with manual gears since they are left where you expect them to be rather than accidentally shifting the wrong way

...and I use it as a gear lever in dcs lel

Its range is pretty shit especially if you start using afterburner for no reason, and it can only fit a single small centerline tank with a full missile loadout. If you put the two huge wing tanks on then you have to sacrifice the SARH missiles and can only carry 2 heaters, plus it handles like a fucking cow in that configuration.

Must have been the last thread where someone was chatting to me about Huey landings, since I can't do them to save my life.

Just span the Huey up to see if I still had all my controls bound, got into the air to a decent speed and altitude and then attempted a landing.

Somehow, and it's the first time, I've actually landed on a target that I was aiming for on the first attempt, with no amputations. I still had a couple of scary moments, although I think that's more to do with me still having arcadey flight models stuck in my head (arma and the like). Turned to start the final leg of my landing with ever so slightly too much speed and altitude, so I tried to conservatively pull back on the stick and lower collective simultaneously (knowing how dangerous it is). Vertical speed began dropping rapidly, and I managed to fight the urge to raise collective because I imagine that can exacerbate the situation by sucking up the air beneath you, and I managed to land it successful.

The huey (I don't own the mi-8 yet) is still the only aircraft where actually flying it, without weapons or enemies, is in itself enjoyable and challenging. I'd love to do some multiplayer CSAR missions or the like.

>>137536353
I'm not particularly good at the Huey either, but I find alot of it is just being able to anticipate what is going to happen. If you're braking on a landing appraoch you can lower collective a little otherwise you will just shoot up, but once you go below the magical 40 kts you better raise it again otherwise you just fall out of the sky. When I still have too much energy I usually just use rudder to spin it around and lose that energy.

There could be an easy way to avoid this. We would need something like a public calender where people can announce when they are hosting OPS.

Should be a simple format like

-OPS TICKER-
DATE, TIME, GAME, PLANES

People can then decide what ops they want to attend. Problem is ofc to organise and stick to the schedule.
>>
>>137545054
No I'm not, but you're in the wrong general if you wanna fly this SFM shit.

DCS fags care more about the number of flyable planes because of their short attention spans

Meanwhile BMS fags are happy with flying one working aircraft for 20 years.

DCS fags want more planes because their modules have no replay ability

Honestly, Blue Flag was the only thing that keeps me coming back. I was playing it every hour that I could when it was running.

These multiple month long periods of no blue flag are fucking gay. There is literally NOTHING to do in DCS. Nothing. Its so fucking depressing.

Blue Flag should run all the time.
>>
>>137569668
I joined an autism crew and have been "training" with them to be able to work together as a MiG-21 swarm for BF6, but now it's looking like the leader who put it all together won't even be around for this one because of how fuckin' long it's taking.

I'm pretty certain that if Buddy Spike wanted to run a Blue Flag server 24/7 alongside all their other events, and fund it off community donations, it'd have no problem taking off.

Shit, the community'll dump $60 on modules like it's no problem, all the dudes I'm flying with right how have fucking everything and now I'm made to feel like a pleb with the few modules I DO have. They'll fork over $2-$3 at a time like fucking nothing.

>>
>>137569535
I do give a shit about WW2 planes and I wish they'd get more content, and so do plenty of other people.
The problem with DCS is that its development is a complete fucking mess and all over the place, it seriously needs a fucking roadmap that both ED and third party need to stick to. No seriously, we have enough flyable planes for at least three different theaters, except there aren't enough assets for all of them (see: it's been almost fifteen fucking years and we still have only ONE map and assets from the 80s onwards). And meanwhile most of the shit that is in development doesn't really mesh with the one theater that has assets, either because of the timeframe or because DCS lacks features.

>>137570921

>>
>>137570539
Honestly I'd be more inclined to buy the WW2 modules for DCS if I hadn't been flying P-51s, Bf 109 K-4s, and whichever Fw. 190 it is (D-9 right?) for years in literally every simulator I've played. It'd be like buying The Sims 4 for me at this point, yeah there's some new shit I can click, but I've played the exact same thing 3 times before otherwise. Honestly, I'm glad that there's more WW2 planes in development for that era but DCS' lack of features (regarding dynamic campaigns, etc) compared to the IL-2 games, etc, doesn't really make much of an argument for paying $40+ for a messerschmitt or a corsair.

Also, yeah, I wish they'd hurry up with the theatres. Hormuz should be a nice addition, but again it's more sand, and even if we get a Vietnam map or something like a lot of people seem to be clamoring for, we still won't have the planes for it unless we're expecting MiG-21 v. F-5 to provide years of entertainment.

seriously, where's the fucking Phantom, what the shit.

Or alternatively: why would you not be able to set the bombs laser code to that of the gazelle's?
>>
>>137591195
because we're playing a game and these things need to be explicitly coded in
>>
>>137591285
Well unless they explicibly coded their own laser implementation, I don't think adding this functionality is too hard. All they would have to do is broadcast/set the Gazelle's lasercode to some known and static value, and tadah
>>
>>137591195
You can't set bomb laser codes in flight you know, its 3 or 4 screws on the bomb it's self that sets it's laser code.

Just like with the Ka-50 you can't guide bombs to places, because you can't set the laser code. Well you can but the knob isn't implemented, and you probably still couldn't do it because the laser works differently.
>>
>>137591405
You can on the A10

Although the KA50 cant buddy lase for other aircraft in game it can apparently buddy lase other KA50's using KH25ML according to this thread

>>
>>137591516
Not sure about the laser codes for the A-10, but there are a couple of other things in the A-10 that were made unrealistic for gameplay purposes, like the Height of Function on cluster munitions. Those are set by the ground crew prior to take off, as it's an adjustment on the bomb itself, not any software.
>>
>>137592439
It wont burst into flames, since you can change the mode of operation, you can change it so that a lase cycle lasts 60s and with that you can't guide vikhrs but you can guide kh-25Ls.

It has a mechanism of sorts, but it's not implemented, there's knob where it can chose for different laser code settings, sadly it does nothing.
>>
>>137592439
>Besides, it would burst into flames if it kept the laser on long enough to guide an LGB.
Proper LGB guidance is not longer than 10 seconds, typically even shorter. It's called "terminal" guidance for a reason.

Little late but thanks Anon, the DFGT has FFB right? Because I remember that this old thing had FFB and I loved it despite it making the entire table shake.

If it does I'm probably getting that because the G27 is ball to the wall expensive.

I am not sure I understand the radio configuration shit with presets. I loaded the DTC and the training manual says I should set the frequency to 29230 and when I do it manually it works great. It also says I could do the same by just typing 15 and enter to get preset 15. But it looks like preset 15 is something totally different and I don't get any radio communication on that freq. Is that a bug in the mission. It is the first training mission ground ops ramp.
>>
>>137599787
In 2d mapscreen open your catridge-> select uniform 15 -> check as default and setit as tower frequency
Do this everytime your homeplate changes
It is accepted that you use UHF 15 as your homeplate tower
>>
>>137599697
Yeah DFGT has FFB. It's not the fastest and its a bit noisy but it's good enough to get an idea of how simracing works. DFGT also has the weird property of being the only wheel under a thousand dollars that consistently displays zero FFB deadzone and a linear power curve.

Getting FFB settings right is most of the time spent in setting up a new game, so Google for recommended settings in whatever game you end up getting.

I'm probably missing something but is there a way to turn off the IR LEDs that the trackir camera has? (I'm using the track clip pro and so don't need the camera's LEDs to reflect off anything)

Got a mirror behind me and it's fucking my shit up. I could have sworn a couple of years ago there was an option to disable it.

There's a slider for the IR LED brightness, but it goes from 10-15, not 0-15. I'm not sure if that's some kind of a bug on my end but it's been like that for at least the last year. Not sure if reinstalling would fix it.

ATTENTION HELO PILOTS

Would you be interested in me adding a CSAR script to all ops?
ie: when a pilot is shot down and ejects, an infantryman with a radio beacon spawns and he needs to be picked up.

Downside is that in the unlikely event no-one is shot down you have nothing to do.

Opinions?

Anyone know of any cold start sheets for the DCS modules? I've got an A-10C one, even though that's the only aircraft besides the Huey I know the start-up of from heart.

I can find a few but they include shit like pre-start up flight checks and what not, which is fine if you're autistic but is pointless in DCS because they haven't yet modeled incompetent crew chiefs.

I just want a check list of the mandatory buttons for starting the aircraft, ignoring any checks and non-required buttons (like defogging and stuff that isn't modelled).

L-39 specifically, although it wouldn't hurt to have them for the other aircraft.

Live CSAR missions during Blue Flag was some of the coolest shit.

Pic related was this one time where me and a friend were on the way to a target in our Ka-50's, and the GCI told us there was a downed pilot along our route, so we found him and set our birds down till a friendly Huey arrived so we could show him the location.

Shit was to tight.
>>
>>137630682
There's a bunch of switches on the right console that control the HUD, some of those are probably in different positions than the tutorial assumes.
>>
>>137630682
>wasting your time with bms
>>
>>137631114
No it actually seems to be a different plane, since the training plane is the two seater and in the manual is the single seat. I found the buttons chaning the hud, but it's just not the same.

Who the fuck thought this would be a good idea.
>>
>>137631374
Ah, you're in a Block 40 instead of a 50 or vice versa. It should be the same stuff on the display though, just a different frame around it.
>>
>>137631621
Oh wait, I totally forgot about the even older blocks they have in some training TEs. Yeah, those will have slightly different HUDs where they don't show you speed/alt apart from the tape. No idea why they have those since you never see them in campaign.

During the Huey cold start, you hold a button (Home) for 30 odd seconds while your RPM spools up to 40%.

Cheers. I know back in beta they hadn't added it yet and I can't see it anywhere.

BMS has ALOT of little quirks like that. You can actually select different flights and planes in the mission planning and can be dropped into your plane at different phases of the mission.

On top of that the training manual is so fucking convoluted with useless shit like BIT tests and autism which could be streamlined like crazy.

I am currently making my way through it. I hope I will finish weapon deployment this week. I could try to make a short comprehensive guide how to work this shit with no bullshit, when I'm done.

Yeah I thought it looked Soviet to,o but I guessed Viggen since maybe Swedish gear is weird and different enough from American stuff that it looked Soviet to me.
