That doesn't make sense as most wehraboos are all about early/mid war 109s at least when it comes to fighters. The 262 would've made much more sense and they'd even have the possibility of fucking around with an actual 262s (IIRC those flying replicas are supposed to fly almost exactly like the originals).

Are you high? that's the only post I've made today other than asking how the lack of a WWII theatre was the fault of the P-51D module. I'm asking them to stay on topic or leave, which is pretty reasonable of a request. Also regarding airport traffic I like to assume that the area is under no-fly restrictions since the theatre is a warzone and all, though I guess that doesn't explain why there's so few aircraft on the ground overall. Personally I'd just like to see the fuel/ammo/power trucks actually move around and connect up.

"Literally worse than hitler" isn't a good excuse to ban people, especially when they've done absolutely nothing on the server (anything in the thread is fair game since you seem to be one of the biggest shitposters in it, and I've been inactive for months and you were still posting about me when I came back).

No one in the teamspeak seemed to have an issue with me yesterday.
>>
>>136880051
>anything in the thread is fair game
And because of shit like this you are banned.

Not to mention your long history in a3g.
>>
>>136880234
My long history in /a3g/ of not getting banned? :?)

I got a 3 day ban back in 2013, far less than the sum of all of Cephei's bans, from Cephei (and the ban was on such bullshit premises that he had his admin revoked following it).

But I assume you're the only one allowed to shitpost in the thread, since you're the largest purveyor of it? Literally all I've posted in the thread in the last 8 months is in regards to mission making, except these posts regarding you banning me. Every other post is someone else that you're attributing to me for whatever reason.
>>
>getting banned from TS servers ,ever

For fucks sake. just stop the drama, if Kerri ends up being a massive fag as everyone fears then we can verbally abuse him til an admin bans him

Quality varies massively, FSX is much less strict in the levels of quality it demands from 3rd party aircraft than DCS. So you get a lot of shit, but there are gems too. Don't be afraid to pirate first to avoid disappointment.

Is there a way to stop aircraft parked on carriers (helicopters on cruisers and, say, F-18s on the Nimitz-class carrier) from despawning after a set period of time?
>>
>>136881989
>despawning after a set period of time?

Hmmmm, that's a thing for any airfield, i suppose you can make them turn into parked vehicles, but i'm not sure if that's possible with carriers.

>>136882629
I don't think it's possible to have a parked option when placing aircraft on a carrier.

Other issue I had was I didn't seem to be able to place them on the carrier itself without them taking off. Even with no waypoints, etc. they'd automatically take off.

Helicopters I could set as 'unmanned' or whatever the option is called, and they'd just sit there idle until they despawned. I tried the same with F-18s and they'd just fall through the deck of the Nimitz into the ocean.

It's not really a big deal, with carrier group is just there for show for the most part (besides helicopter take off, unless I decide to put F-18s in using that mod). I'd just like them to look a little less barren.

>>
>>136883247

>>
>>136882827
>Even with no waypoints, etc. they'd automatically take of

There's a way to do that, i do it, when making missions with mig-21s in them, so that i can have the textures loaded into the game at all times, because Leatherneck a shit and Rudel cannot into optimization.

What i do is give them 0% fuel, and create a trigger to force the AI to start the plane, without fuel they'll just sit there forever, if you don't give them a start thing i think they'll disappear.

>>136891967
That's a broad statement.

Do you reduce speed below it when in a turn?
>>
>>136892198
If I reduce speed I lose turn rate and I get stuck further behind in lag. If I attempt to pull harder, I might gain some angles then I lose it all because I suddenly don't have any available G.
>>
>>136892536
Well depends on the situation, sometimes you may want to pull as hard as you can to finish a fight quickly, or to save your ass.

It's called "standing on the ball".

If the ball is to the left, you need left rudder. Ball on the right, right rudder.

Control curves are insanely important for rudder, especially if it's a shit one. I tend to have a bit of deadzone in the middle to account for any play in the rudders, and then desensitised input (as you'll typically be using small amounts of rudder where it's more important to be precise. If you suddenly need to stand on the pedals for maximum effect, you don't care about precision.

Saying that, slippage doesn't really matter unless you're autistic, since it's typically to combat uncomfortable g-force on passengers, or if you're using dead reckoning in order to navigate huge distances.

The ball takes time to center at times, and if you're trying to put tons of pedal in to correct you're going to end up overcorrecting. And you shouldn't go past 120 in the Huey in the first place, you're putting too much strain on the airframe. If you have retreating blade stall, let the flare happen, control it, and don't go so fast. Trying to push through it is how you end up breaking shit in-flight.

And don't do any serious zero-g pushovers, while you're at it

A-10C should be considered mandatory. It's the most fleshed out, and is still the most effective ground attack aircraft (yet also still has the ability for air to air, not that it's practical but it will teach you how air to air missiles work). Learning how the A-10C works, with its batteries, inverters, etc., will set you up to start any other aircraft without needing to go through a tutorial.

L39 is good, but it's definitely something you should get later on. Just remember FC3 doesn't have interactive cockpits, and the avionics and subsystems aren't modelled nearly as well (if at all in some cases) as full modules like the L-39 and A-10C. Although if you want modern air superiority aircraft, it's your best bet until the M2000 comes out (and it will set you up well for learning that, as you'll already know the basics and will just need to translate that to switch flicking in the M2000 cockpit)
>>
>>136931062
A-10C, A-10C all the damn way. You have nothing to learn in the 39 because it is such a simple aircraft.
>>
>>136931253
>until the M2000 comes out
You mean until December 2015?
>>
>>136931572
I've learned my lesson with buying pre-release aircraft, I don't consider it out until it's been released with all of the accompanying documentation, tutorial missions and a campaign.

Not sure if the M2000 has a tutorial mission yet, but I'd imagine that would be pretty mandatory for someone as new as this guy seems to be (with him not owning the A-10, etc., yet).

>>
>>136932316
I'd go A-10C and FC3 (since FC3 is dirt cheap, although you just missed a sale. Try that Kinguin website the guy just linked above, it's legit, I used it yesterday).

A-10C in combination with the missile/radar elements of the FC3 will set you up pretty nicely with being able to understand how most of the aircraft (besides helicopters) function, and you can then branch out with what interests you the most.
>>
>>136932316
Depends on your autism. If you want full autism go with Mirage. If you can also live with relatively shallow modeled systems FC3 might be the better option, since it has more planes and is in general more competitive.
>>
>>136932316
FC3 is pretty much mandatory

It's usually used in our ops as a fallback for poorfags, who don't have a wide selection of dedicated modules.

Ie we have a mig21 mission, it includes some mig29's, etc.
>>
>>136932681
I see, good point.
On Kinguin, FC3 pretty much cost the same as all other modules
Was there a sale for FC? Shame I missed the Easter A-10C sales thou.

If you can hold on I'd wait to see how the Gazelle turns out. Huey is probably going to need to be rebuilt from the ground up in order to support multiplayer in the same aircraft. Don't own the Mi-8 so can't comment on it, but I imagine it acts as a pretty good gunship with all of its heavy armament.

Maintain translational lift until you're in ground effect, keep your landing zone centered in your view, stick to your glide slope and don't let your descent rate drop below 300 feet per minute when you're under 100 feet AGL

I imagine I can land if I treat it like a civilian cessna or something, where you come in at a fixed glideslope extremely conservatively, etc.

I just either fail to judge the distance correctly and need to overcompensate or abort, or it's in a scenario where I feel it's not realistic (or safe) to land using a fixed glide slope (such as landing under fire, etc.)

>>136937549
Some of the popular HOTAS setups should have some control schemes online you can download, other than that I can't help, I'm in the same boat.

I'm going to have to give re-installing it another go tomorrow, because for some reason my falcon 4.0 (not BMS) is crashing on start up, and so my BMS is doing so as well. Never had this issue before but it's too late in the evening for me to be bothered with trying to sort it out.

You should use the UFC more then since it has all the things you will ever need.

UFC + CDU repeater are the best if you master them since you don't even need to move your head around the pit. But for that you usually need head tracking and a good HOTAS system.

There's a glideslope for a chopper the same way there is for a fixed-wing, shallow, steep, normal approaches and everything. You just need to keep a few things constant. Keep your IAS at 60, keep your descent rate at 500 feet per minute, put in right pedal to compensate for its desire to spin to the left when you're descending and keep your LZ in the same imaginary box the whole way down

I'm cheating a bit on the IAS here, but there's a strong headwind so I'm not worrying overly much about it. My descent rate is still good, the aircraft is being held in trim, and I still have translational lift, so if I come up a little short I can put in a bit of forward cyclic and slide into my spot.

Also, make sure you land with a headwind. Landing with the wind on your tail, especially with a left-quartering tailwind, is a recipe for disaster. A tailwind can dump your downwash up over your rotors, causing VRS, and if it hits your tail rotor, you could enter LTE and spin like a top. Conversely, with a headwind your rotors are acting like a parachute, making it much harder to enter VRS, and you can even get pushed and away from your spot if you don't force the chopper down. I've been out in real life more than once and entered translational lift in an IGE hover, and have had to practically dump collective just to stay in the safe area of the dead man's curve
>>
>>136940454
Nah. I've installed it before, (4.32), never had any issues.

Basically, the dead man's curve is a chart that shows what your IAS should, and more importantly shouldn't, be at a given altitude. If you're operating in the darker, more heavily cross-hashed area, you cannot safely perform an autorotation. So, for example, if I were flying at 20 knots at 300 feet, I would need to either climb, or more likely speed the fuck up.

>>136945727
You can tell if you're overtaxing the aircraft with the engine gauges in the cockpit. Rotor RPM and IAS are also good for warning of that. Also, if you enter autorotation you don't just worry about airspeed and altitude, you need to keep a very keen eye on your attitude indicator, your turn coordinator, your VSI, and most importantly your rotor RPM. Too little RPM and you'll dump all the inertia out of them and turn into a rock. Too much and they'll pop off, again turning you into a rock. Maintain the green arc and you're safe. Also, this should go without saying, but first and foremost look outside the canopy and stay on your glide slope.

Is what that map really needs imo, that and to be merged with the release version so it's not always running an old version of DCS.

ED has no excuse, they have a constant revenue stream and full time employees, so why the fuck is it we only get new content from them like twice a decade?

What's with the colours?

If it's meant to imply that the resolution (both terrain and texture) of the Caucasus map is the same as that of the NTTR map, then it's laughably wrong.

That massive mountain range is little more than poorly textured, white pyramids.
>>
>>137031895
The colours are there to indicate the detail levels of the areas of the maps with respect to other areas on the same map. Caucusus green =/= NTTR green, it simply means highest res terrain *for that map*.

Which is why I point out the NTTR red is roughly the same as Georgia yellow.
>>
>>137031078
So I imagine they'll add hires terrain for NTC Fort Irwin, MCLB Barstow, and Tonopah and the areas in the vicinity, and lowres terrain for everything in between them and the current green and yellow areas.
>>
>>137032308
Yeah, Tonopah test range airport & Fort Irwin are right on the edge of the yellow anyway.
>>
>>137032308
>>137031078
OOOH I wonder if China Lake is close enough to warrant hires, too? Would make fictional force-on-force operations possible, with one side flying out of China Lake and the other out of Nellis.

Also might be helpful for Green Flag-West campaigns, flying RedFor out of China Lake.

Whoever wrote the scripting for FSX's default SAR missions needs to be lined up against a wall and shot, or at the very least fired. Half the time, the objectives won't even spawn in, and the other half they simply will not execute, and you'll be sitting there in a hover like an idiot waiting for the rescue swimmer who just rescue swam five minutes ago to do the same thing, only to have him sit in the chopper and look at the unconscious person floating limply in the water and sit there with his thumb up his ass.

>>137090797
While they are SFMs, some of them are actually remarkably good.

For example, the Tornado has a fantastic SFM for some reason, it even properly models suspension on the ground and isn't "stuck" like other SFMs. Come to think of it, it might be a modified flight model, like a more stable Su-27 or something like that.

You do, but it's a bit of a work around since there isn't a built in way that a player can control wing sweep yet.

How the Tornado's works is you press landing light key combo to change wing sweep between the 3 different positions.
>>
>>137093271
Does the flight model change with the change in wing position?
>>
>>137090775
You need FC3 for this Luna magic right?

I know it's a dumb question but I am still going to ask
>>
>>137094346
No unfortunately it doesn't seem to. What you get is a workaround solution where the landing light key combo changes between the 3 different wing positions.

>>137095413
Yes. Just buy it on a keysite or something, there's literally no reason not to have FC3.

On a side note, people can shit talk these SFM mods and shit all they want but the facts still stand. Working with what they were given, some modders actually managed to add additional aircraft to the game that works surprisingly well considering how little they're working with.

I know I'm probably wasting my time but as an ex-amateur game dev I get frustrated when people don't understand game development or modding.

Operation Red Demon is pretty much ready to go. It's an OCA Strike that requires cooperation between strike packages, SEAD, and CAP to destroy an aerodrome.

We can probably run this op sometime this weekend if people are up for it, but I'm gonna go to bed now.

You don't need the flyables mod, but I would download it regardless.

Huey if you want to fly for the joy of flying, Ka-50 for dakka dakka hovering killer.

If you want to be a airborne ninja: Ka-50
If you want to be a airborne taxi-driver: Huey
If you want to be a airborne bus-driver: Mi-8
>>
>>137127429
The Huey is an absolutely top tier helicopter flight model, highly recommend it.
Ka-50 is good too though it really flies itself with all its stabilization and autopilot.

Depends if you want a raw heli flight experience or a more modern combat heli with a lot of computers and autopilot and to kill dozens of tanks.

It really does depend on you.

I own both, the KA-50 is a very complicated aircraft because there's nothing really like it. With the Huey, you know what you're getting, it's all analogue controls, forward firing guns (copilot can slew the front MGs and you have two doorgunners, but that's it).

KA-50 is basically in autopilot 97% of the time, and you're just tweaking its parametres to get it to do what you want. The weapons controls (and especially their placement) is different to everything I'd played (mainly Western aircraft, it's similar to the Su-25 but that's all using keybinds so you don't really care about where the switches are).

Ka-50 is by far the more deadly of the two, with rocket pods, a slewable cannon with FLIR, missiles, etc., but it's a lot to handle and it's pretty difficult to learn (someone will say it's easy, ofcourse).
>>
>>137128198
>KA50
>FLIR
Anon I don't know what to say...
>>
>>137128367
dude memes

I haven't played it in years, I can't remember if the pod is FLIR or just shitty black and white.

It's not like the A-10C or any of the aircraft has FLIR anyway, they all just use a black and white filter on top of the regular textures. There's no heat actually being simulated, which is why even with WHOT mode on, you can't see active tanks against a dark green backdrop.
>>
>>137128467
But I can still find targets in pitch darkness with the TGP but am shit out of luck with the shkval.
>>
>>137128467
It's not quite just a black and white filter, but it's not a very good FLIR simulation either.

>>137128680
The shkval can't even ground stabilise at night.
>>
>>137128680
That's your problem then, I don't know about the russian optics like I said, but it's a fact that the TGP just uses greyscale (inverted for black hot) for it's thermal output. People having been whining about it on the forums for 5 years now.

Basically lighter textures are just amplified, darker ones aren't. It's why white buildings stick out as sore thumbs on the camera, but active tanks against a dark background don't.
>>
>>137128858
>>137128680
Do illumination bombs help with that? Sounds like a cool idea for coop mission with su-25.
>>
>>137128858
>The shkval can't even ground stabilise at night.
It can, it can't target track.

Really though the shkval on the ka-50 can't ground stabilize effectively at all, because the moment the laser stops firing it usually jumps to some random range setting and just flies all over the place, of course ED being ED refuse to acknowledge that they done fucked it up.

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to DCSP, Digital Combat Space Program.

On a fine summer evening there stands a single plane on the Senaki runway. It's mission is to launch its AIM-120 rocket into space, i.e. above the Karman line.

(Editor's note: that is 100km altitude for the uneducated or Americans).

>>137150126
The words you're looking for are "orbital" and "sub-orbital"

They're both ballistic, but one eventually hits back on earth and the other one doesn't.

It's important to note here that you can only achieve an orbit with TWO acceleration phases, never one.

A bullet fired from earth can never hit an orbit, and unless a plane can accelerate in space, neither can a plane.

Forgot this part
>>
>>137150916
A plane that can accelerate in space, hence

>unless a plane can accelerate in space
doesn't apply, and thus it can achieve orbit

SSTO's have both jet and rocket motors for this purpose. Or some form of hybrid.
>>
>>137145517
sounds kinda fun
Why don't you try making it?
>>
>>137151023
It's not impossible to have a single-stage rocket achieve orbit though, just that either the flight profile with contemporary designs become extremely human-unfriendly or sacrifices are made in habitation. In either case one of the current engineering tasks facing pretty much every space agency and company is creating a maintainable SSTO platform. but yes, rocket-powered jet hybrid spaceplanes are generally the most feasible. on that note I'd kinda like to see something simulate the MiG-105 or Buran since both have been pretty well declassified.

That's still a machine that can accelerate in space, and most rockets do a two stage burn, where they accelerate so they hit their intendend orbit altitude, then coast to the second burn point, and then burn to circularize the orbit and turn it from sub-orbital to orbital.

It is possible to do this with a continuous burn, but that is mechanically still more than one acceleration phases, that's how orbits work.

Any orbit will return you back to the acceleration position after you stopped accelerating. What that means, is that you can fire a bullet as hard as you want, it will not be able to achieve orbit, as it will return to the shooter position (on the surface) once it completes it's virtual orbit (just image it going through the earth).

You need n+1 acceleration events to raise the altitude of the initial acceleration point to a stable orbit, it's an unavoidable law of orbital mechanics.

>>137152482
You can see this in the picture I just made in paint on the left.

The solid paths are the trajectories of a bullet fired at different initial velocities, whereas the dotted lines are the path the bullets WOULD take if the earth wasn't there. Note that in reality those circles would be a lot bigger, as they would "orbit" around the center of gravity of the planet, but this is just a demonstration.

Note how it doesn't matter how hard you fire the bullet, it always "orbits" back to the cannon position. That's the effect I'm talking about. In an orbit, any change in velocity will bring you back to the position of where you stopped accelerating, in the case of a cannon, this would be it's muzzle. In the case of a plane, it would be where its engines shut off due to lack of oxygen (ignoring drag).

Since those points for any object launched from earth, is always on earth and since contrary to the picture, earth happens to be in the way of the orbit path, those objects will ALWAYS come back crashing down, hence sub-orbital trajectory.

You cannot "shoot" something into orbit, it doesn't work.

And just to complete the picture, if you shoot something so hard it surpasses earths escape velocity, it will just drift into space and never come back, but it still didn't achieve orbit.
>>
>>137153254
I misinterpreted when you said acceleration phases as separate staging, though it is possible to achieve "orbit" within the atmosphere from a single acceleration phase provided your orbital velocity is high enough and very eccentric. That does however, require a prolonged acceleration profile at multiple angles and the orbital path must be drawn away from the surface so yes, you're correct, you can't just "shoot" an object into orbit. maybe into orbit of another body though, lol.
>>
>>137154676
>maybe into orbit of another body
And how would you do that? Even if you areobrake you'd still be into a reentry orbit. Unless some other body influences the object.

>>137154676
The best you can do with other orbital bodies is an aerobrake manuever and then one brake burn to stabilize.

Also I'm not sure if I understand this rest of your post correctly, but an orbit within an atmosphere doesn't work by definition, the air will slow you down, essentially acting like a reverse thrust that's constantly on, eventually ending your orbit.

You can achieve a continous burn orbit as I mentioned before with a single long burn, but this is basically cheating the semantics, what you're doing is basically merging two distinct burn events into one another, it's still more than one as far as orbital mechanics are considered, as it includes attitude changes and whatnot.

I have included an example orbit transfer picture to the left. The red circle represents the lower and the green the higher orbit. Red can also be "earth" or any other solid body that you're standing on, earths rotation and you standing on it basically makes that an orbit as well.

You can see how accelerating towards the blue transfer orbit doesn't change the position of the acceleration. It stays in place, whereas the orbit grows outwards to match the height of the green orbit. This is the core problem. You can accelerate as much as you want on the initial burn, you'll stijll go back to the burn position after one revolution.

You need the second burn on the right of the picture to circularize and stabilize the orbit. Only through this can you actually achieve an orbit.

The reverse works exactly the same for brake manuevers, this is why you also need two acceleration events to enter orbit from the outside. Even if you aerobraked to achieve a transfer orbit, you'd go back to the atmosphere on the next revolution, quickly degrading your orbit into a crash. In order to achieve orbit around a foreign body, you'd need a second acceleration event to stabilize the orbit around the new body.

you'd have to have the energy to surpass aerodynamic forcess but still have enough remaining velocity to be on a capture trajectory with the target body. Like a captured asteroid. that said it'd have to be pretty sizable or be made of something that does not ablate at all in order to survive exit

a stable orbit is a flight path that has a circular balistic trajectory about a body that does not touch the surface. NASA and the ESA both define a stable orbit as one that can be maintained for two passes, so with a highly eccentric but not-escaping path an orbit can pass through the atmosphere and still be considered stable. the aerodynamic stresses on the vessel would be considerable during the aerobrake phases though.

regarding transfer, you're not taking into account the gravitational fields of the second body, which can be used to capture a vessel with no braking. It will not be circularized, however.
>>137156819

New BMS campaign 2nd announcement!
Ops theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4sqMNHZxjI

Welcome to Operation Deliberate Force.
Coming around April 12, we will visit the Balkans to remove kebab (removers) during the Bosnian war, 1995 by bombing them to smithereens. It's not gonna be quite realistic, since Serbia will actually have an air force we will contend with, but it would be boring without it.

We will be flying F16CM Block 50 out of Ljubljana Airport, Slovenia. To make it more fun and a bit more autistic, we will be using only weapons that were in service in 1995 - this means no JDAM/JSOW/SDB, no AIM9X, no AIM120C.

The enemy will field:
MiG29A
MiG21MF
MiG21bis
G4 - Yugoslavian trainer(lol)/ground attack aircraft
J22 - Yugoslavian ground attack aircraft

Get the Balkans theatre here: http://www.bmsforum.org/forum/showthread.php?23469-Balkans-Theater-of-Operation-for-BMS-4-33

We will be using 4.33 throughout the campaign. I'll consider if we will be switching to 4.33.1 if it releases in the meantime.

tldr bms ops from around april 12

>a stable orbit is a flight path that has a circular balistic trajectory about a body that does not touch the surface.
>circular
Found your problem. What you're describing is a race against time to make 2 revolutions before burning up in the atmosphere or degrading so much you're gonna crash.

>you're not taking into account the gravitational fields of the second body
It's pretty irrelevant during "normal" orbital operations, as those slingshot manuevers take a lot of time for both set up and execution.

For example, the Cassini mission (picture) performed several gravity assisted manuevers (mainly to save on fuel), and as you can see by the dates on the picture, it took years to get where you wanted to be.

Not to mention, what this basically is is a kinetic transfer between the planet/body and the spacecraft, so all it really is is a very fancy acceleration/brake manuever over a very long time, so we're back at square one.

I was actually going to bring up casini but there's some problems in using it as an example of what I'm trying to describe since it's mission was to reach multiple moons and then plunge into Jupiter anyway. what I'm describing is a direct transfer with atmospheric burn only, into a capture orbit which could be as much as millions of miles away from the surface. the intercep only has to be steep enough to achieve critical influence. The difference between orbit and encounter is only like a few m/s and the final orbit is generally very close to the surface, but this kind of capture is how some astronomers assume mars acquired it's moons. pic related but not to shape or scale at all

More the issue of modifiers. Binding up a HOTAS is comparatively easy, since you can just do whatever the actual pilot has on his HOTAS.

>>
>>137180401
Switching it on prevents the engines from sucking in dirt when flying at low altitudes. There's a little trap inside the air inlets which collect the dirt in a basket while letting the clean air through, when you switch on the dust protection it blows some bleed air into a siphon to suck out the dust to keep the trap from filling up.

I did a little work on a spec script for a Battle of Britain movie while I was deployed.

Story would have followed an American barnstormer pilot who's father was an American volunteer pilot who flew for the 7. Eskadra Lotnicza "Kościuszko Squadron" during the Soviet-Polish war of 1919. The guy's family is mostly Polish (his father married while in Poland and brought her back to the states) so he speaks fluent Polish.

The guy keeps getting rejected from the Army Air Corps. Eventually, after Hitler invades Poland, he decides to skip up to Canada and join the RCAF to fly over in Europe. While in a training squadron in England, they learn that he speaks fluent Polish and he gets assigned to the 303rd Polish volunteer squadron.

I put the thing on hold because I couldn't make the story anything that would stand out beyond "oh look shooting plens"

>>
>>137183787

Well, the Poles were largely more experienced than the rest of the RAF but they were held back from operational flying because the administration didn't trust them so they had to undergo extensive training to prove themselves.
Much of this training was pretty humiliating for people who had hundreds more hours than a lot of the RAF pilots fighting in the battle so you have that aspect for part of your first act.

Then you have the fact that RAF tactics of the time were criminally outdated. Close formation Area Attacks devised by Dowding in the 1930s meant that everyone in the formation was spending all their time keeping formation and were unable to scan for enemy planes. If you can imagine inflicting these kinds of tactics on the Poles who had seen the way the Germans dismantled their airforce then there's some more conflict and drama for Act II

Act III you have the whole Poles proving themselves to be deadly fighters, and maybe some drama arising from the way that the viciously pressed home their attacks in a way that might have caused some tension among the more "sporting" traditionalist RAF officers.

Finally you have the fact that the RAF betrayed the Poles and sold them out tot he commies when the war was over, most Polish RAF veterans were prosecuted and spent time in Gulags after the war, many of them died. It's a script that pretty much writes itself dude. Just get your historical facts right, steer clear of pandering to the "muh 6 gorillion" crowd and you'd have a great film. "Dark Blue World" basically did it already but the story could be remade with more depth

>>137185213
I wanted to avoid following "Dark Blue World's" themes too much. I wanted to go for something like "War is fucking horrible, but sometimes its necessary". Like a scene where the protagonist gets his second or third kill, but gets in close enough after firing the burst to see the German in his cockpit coughing up blood. And it really fucks with him because this is the first time he's seen an actual enemy person in the cockpit of a plane he's shot down. But then he gets back to base and he's talking to the Poles and they're like "sympathy? These are the assholes who fucking slaughtered my whole family". So you get this really interest contrast and conflict.

>>
>>137187205

Ok so what if your protagonist was a idealistic young Pole who had just won his wings before September 1939. His arc could be that he begins in the UK after evacuating among pilots who are older and more experienced than him. He doesn't resent the training period as much as the others due to his earnest nature and comes to relate to the British better than the others so he's a conduit between the RAF and the Poles. Half in one world half in the other, so to speak. Eventually the Squadron gets deploys to a field for operationa training. At the field already is an RAF squadron who are old school, RAFVR University Squadron, gentleman's flying club types who look down on the Poles and low key mock them due to their workmanlike attitude and pragmatic views on the war and their disdain for the operational training they are receiving. But then the RAF old boys start taking heavy losses in July-August 1940 and a few of them start listening to the Poles and asking for advice when they realise that their leadership is behind the 8-ball. Maybe during this time our Young Polish Protagonist befriends some young Peer of the Realm type and is exposed to the British Class system and his regard for the British becomes more guarded and he starts to gravitate back towards his own people.

Then all hell breaks loose, things get so bad that the Poles are thrust into action and the grind of the battle eats away at our protags idealism. He watches his squad mates efficiently and deliberately murder the enemy and is surprised that the old boys begin to do the same when they realise that they are fighting for survival up there. The strain keeps building, people are drinking a lot, nerves are frayed, people start having breakdowns and the pilots no longer divide themselves as Poles and Brits but as survivors and targets.

This brings the protags arc to a kind of watershed. does he crack? Does he forego his idealism entirely and strafe a German seaplane picking up downed airmen?
>>
>>137189546
WW1 has produced almost no aviation movies. Of the ones that I can think of, none of them were actually good. People like putting that Norwegian Red Baron one up as "good", but the fact is it was boring and had no character development of any kind.

>>
>>137190048

Oops, ran out of space. Anyway, at this point something occurs to break him down and remake him and then you have your pathway towards the ending. the protags values being constantly undermined, his perceived ideological havens being pillaged by cold reality. First by the RAF, then by the more experienced Poles, then by the RAF again when they send him home. Whatever it is that sustains him is your motif.

By commitee and with full group consensus from the board being granted only after extensive research provided by third party marketing strategists has been analysed. This is why they need have a dedicated EMT resuscitation specialist team on standby at all times

DCS is most famous for the A-10C, but I personally like the Huey best
>>
>>137207543
No but also you have literally no reason to be using the steam version over the standalone. I wouldn't recommend the Mirage for beginners anyway though because it's in a pretty early beta state and some things don't work properly and it's getting updated and changed every other week and it doesn't have training missions or any of that stuff.

Pick whatever plane interests you and seems fun, I guess. I think of the modules I own I could easily recommend the A-10C, the MiG-21, the Ka-50, and the F-86, whichever you choose should be based on what sort of aircraft and what combat role you want to try out first. For any plane you buy you should of course use the training missions if available and read the manual and all that but also by the way there's a set of guides called Chuck's Guide to _______ and they're an excellent shorter quickstart sort of guide which will teach you how to start your plane and get it in the air and shoot stuff and get it back on the ground all without having to read hundreds of pages of manuals.
>>
>>137210217
It sure is all intimidating but thanks for the recommendations I will check out those guides.
>>
>>137210956

Not him, but I would recommend the MiG-21.

Its one of the easier high fidelity modules to get into. You can learn everything you need just from the training missions (which highlight the switches and shit you need to use)

Plus the 21 can do basically everything, even though it wasn't necessarily designed to.

Also almost every ops we have has slots for it.

Compared to the other modules? Shits stupid easy.

Flies straight as an arrow.
Start up is retard proof.
Systems management is easy as fuck.

Late night, comfy pit
>>
If you just got dropped in a real aircraft that you previously flew in sims how well do you think you would fare on a scale from bad death to honorable attempt death?
>>
>>137218593

I would run into something taxiing the MiG-21 out.
>>
Newbie here

What are the chances of a more recent model SU-27 being released (with advanced system model)
>>
>>137218593
I reckon it'd go horribly. I doubt I could even get it started up before I get arrested for breaking into the military base.
>>
>>137219462

Getting on base is doable. You could just be in the seat of a friends car.

Its getting on the flight line and near a jet without getting filled with lead that would be the hard part.

No arresting there. Just straight up shot dead.
>>
>>137219219
Near none within the near future.
>>
>>137219674

They should just pay one of those third world countries that uses them to help them out.

Like Ethiopia.
>>
>Flies straight as an arrow
Trimming to keep it level is a god damn dice roll
>Start up is retard proof
There are like a million switches and they're all in god damn Russian, not to mention the radar takes god damn decades to warm up with zero indication as to when its ready.
>Systems management is easy as fuck.
Everything is a separate god damn system that requires its own micro management, and if you're not checking them every six seconds half of them quit working.

The MiG-21 is a great module because it perfectly simulates a late 60s Soviet aircraft: Unnecessarily complex to setup and manage, slow, doesn't want to turn, needs to be flown manually because trim is a joke, shit radar that doesn't work.

????

All of this is wrong though?

Shit flies straight as fuck. Compared to other airplanes you barely have to trim.

The million switches all just need to be flipped on basically and they stay on for the whole flight. You could almost flip every switch in the cockpit and you are ready to go.

The radar takes like 5 minutes to warm up maybe. By the time you take off and are headed where you need to go its ready.

Literally nothing in the MiG-21 needs micromanaging. Except maybe the weapons selector, but that might be the only thing.

Its the farthest thing form unnecessarily complex. Literally, the farthest thing. That's basically the point of the Fishbed, is that its so simple, dumb 3rd world retards can operate it.

I don't think you know what you are talking about. Maybe stick with FC3?
>>
>>137219674
Well that sucks.

What's the best module for a modern fighter? From what I can see, there's the Mig and the Mirage, or Just sticking with the FC3 planes

Even the MiG-21 has an SAS system for automatic glide slope flight.

probably the same way it works with other aircraft with similar systems the AP follows the glide slope and you work the throttle.
