The regular SafeSysUpdater uses libkhax/mch2 for <=10.3, so it'll work on any 9.0-10.7 version. It's the modded forced-svchax one that has the weird version spread.

What if validation fails? In that case the unbrick won't take place I assume. The guide for failed validation only mentions doing manual checks and if those are fine it tells you to flash emunand to sysnand, without telling you to unbrick.

I need some help guys. I'm shit at this kind of thing, it was a miracle I was able to downgrade and get this all working, but I did.

Anyways since I did all that I updated to 10.4 (maybe 10.5) on emunand and haven't touched the internet on it since. Now yesterday I flipped the wifi switch to do some spotpass shit and it worked fine but on home screen I have new software and some update is ready for me (but I didn't install it). And also I have gifts like youtube and some pokemon thing on my home screen.

Basically I'm just wanting to take precaution so I don't fuck myself over. But is any of this bad like having used spotpass/wifi and getting these updates? I'm still on 10.4 or 10.5 on emunand and sysnand is 9.2 or whatever.

Cakes is sort of good now since the only competition it has on the Arm9 front is AuReiNand, which is meme'd about for different reasons. Mid-Kid might've bricked himself, but Aurora is supposedly a tranny. I don't know how true that is, but that's the accusation. It carries a brick risk like downgrading usually does. Anything that writes to NAND is usually variable levels of dangerous. With the advent of the newer OTPhelpers, brick chance should be basically minimal unless you're actually retarded. If you can follow directions you'll be fine, since one of the steps involves OTPhelper verifying all of your NAND titles on the downgrade against their sha256 hashes. Since OTPhelper is already booted and in memory you could hard brick yourself all day long and as long as you didn't power off from OTPhelper you can fix it. But if you verify the files very little can actually go wrong.

Did you read the bit on the guide? It says that with Godmode9 you can export the files that fail validation and look at the sha256 hashes yourself on your computer. If any of them match you're fine. Besides, half the time stuffs broken and not a false positive is irrelevant garbage anyway.

Unless A9LH gets involved, nobody does, since the important kernel exploits are patched so we can't do anything relevant anymore. OBviously, we can use the newer downgrade exploits to gain Arm11 access which enables us to downgrade to 9.2 with a more vulnerable kernel. For some reason, you need fewer permissions to dump the NAND than you do to do system updates/downgrades. I understand why that happens. It just seems like a dumb security oversight, particularly one involving our current downgrade situation. Arm11 access to the updates doesn't have the (or need) the same permissions to do the decryption and NAND operations that Arm9 does. It just seems silly that we're able to circumvent the problem entirely.

It's far more likely that they'll kill downgrades on the next NATIVE_FIRM update and then kill entrypoints as they crop up. They've done a pretty good job so far of doing that, since Cubic Ninja and OoT are the only exploits that work on latest firmware and OoT isn't something you can do without a dongle or another hacked 3ds already on hand. So for all of the ultra-latefags it's added a $20/$40 entry barrier. Anyone worth a shit who had CFW or was even paying attention to the scene before 10.6 already has an entrypoint into HBL if they don't have full-blown custom firmware. I already tried to install >cakes, rxTools 3.0, but neither of them work. This error just shows when I just read the info of the .cia on DevMenu, it doesn't even leave me to try to install it. On FBI I get a similar error, SUMMARY_INVALID_ARGUMENT (0x7). I already googled it, but all I found were people saying they couldn't install DevMenu and other tools like that because of signature patches.
I already selected all signature realted options on >cakes, but still.
Thought I could install some games in the past I can't now.

Yeah literally. This was also just using julian20's. I've said this a few times now, but in case you missed it, here are my superstitions:

I used a high quality, fast Samsung card. It probably did help.
I did run ftpd once, but did not rush through any menus.
After I launch sysUpdater, I don't press Y immediately, preferring to wait 3-5 seconds.
Then I hit Y once, wait a second, and spam Y for a few seconds.

Every time I did this, it started and didn't even freeze. I like to think my superstitions helped and seriously doubt I'm just that lucky.
