Their lines broken, our men pour into the main plaza.

The commander of the Roman garrison meets our own great general, Olympos, in combat. A microcosm of the greater battle, its end shall be the same.

Roma is ours! Praise be to Zeus, to Poseidon, to Ares, our divine patrons, who have given us victory this day!

Washington was actually incredibly famous in Western Europe (tends to happen when you beat on of the main European powers of the day with a ragtag army), especially with the common man in France who saw him as a modern Cincinnatus, a man of incredible moral principle who was offered the chance of absolute power, turned it down, and retired to be a citizen farmer. The French were very partial to the Americans in many ways, and during the early days of the Revolution would look at the Americans as an example of how to oppose tyranny.

I think your soul ends up in the warp no matter what, and thus it will be in the grip of the chaos gods.
It wouldnt be as bad if the majority of those other souls werent really fucking mad aswell.
And if you chose to be a chaos worshipper they can do with you whatever they want, some get punished with some really nasty shit for all eternity, some get brought back etc.
But the imagination of going to hell where some red guy pokes you in the ass once a day with his flaming trident is really the best-case scenario

Depends where you die. If you die in an Imperial controlled world where the Chorus has protected the planet you'll get eaten by the Emperor. But, at least you'll basically be a charcoal briquette in the furnace that fuels humanity's salvation.
If you die close to Chaos areas, the Warp takes your life essence.

>>
>>136130790
If you take the French castles the Frog AI will declare War on you because its programmed to take those at all cost, they might even backstab an Alliance with you to get them.
Getting to the America discovery takes so long you will remove kebab anyways, maybe you get a standoff with the mongols too that way.

Thankfully, Rome reconquered Neapolis from the Etruscans, who we want to keep the peace with.

We'll cut our expansion in Italy after we take the entire province of Rome. Carthage can have the south.

We stand before Neapolis, ideally, our last fight with the Romans.

The enemy lie dead and battered.

A small breach in their line allowed us to move our Celtic warriors behind them, and the battle was over soon afterwards.

They dealt heavy casualties to one of our elite hoplites with their skirmishers, but their ranged troops melted under focused fire from our slingers.

Christ what a shit show that battle turned out to be. 745 Norscans versus 1040 Beastmen with 5 Chaos Trolls. My cavalry raiders got routed by three groups of Gors and most of the Beastmen broke themselves against a line of Shield Maidens defending a steep slope. If I didn't have the terrain advantage I'd have been fucked.

Am I mad or did they get rid of aging character portraits in Attila? Faramund, King of the Franks, is pushing 72 in my game and he looks no different than when he was 25. Or did the barbars invent Just For Men too?

Speaking of stuff they got rid of, I remember in Rome 1 you could look around a city out of combat. It was pretty neat looking at all the buildings. Now, the only time you'll see them is the rare time they get besieged.

I hope so, but aren't they trying to switch back to a 1hp system? I haven't seen any 1hp combat mod for R2 that worked. All it ends up doing is gimping javelins because they get the same effective missile damage as archers and slingers despite having less range and ammunition.

In 395AD, the emperor Honorius received a vision from a dark power that led him to oversee the abandonment of the entire Western Roman Empire for the shores of the Mediterranean at Tripolitana.

There he oversaw the establishment of various cults to this dark god and the slow resettlement of the former empire.

After reconquering all of northern Africa, and then Iberia, the year is now 429AD. Honorius was killed in battle against the Ostrogoths in Sicily on the road back to rome. But his son, Flavius Equitius Licinus, the new Emperor takes up the task of restoring the capital.

I find myself reading every single post instead of just skimming for interesting posts. Most of the shitposters are gone, too. This is more like the /twg/ of old, and I really like what it is now.

I just hope that one day I will experience the perfect Total War game without any glaring mistakes.

can anyone explain how to cycle cavalry effectively, i always get around 20 casualties when i try to disengage.
>>
>>136178320
If you're playing Attila, cycling cavalry is high risk high reward really. You can get away with minimal casualties if you pull out immediately after a charge because they will knock down a lot of enemies. Turning your back to enemies will let them kill you easily if they are back in formation after the couple of seconds it takes for them to get back up.
>>
>>136178320
In Attila it's a lot harder and only really works with Shock Cavalry. You need to pull them back right after impact when the enemy unit are still on the floor/recovering.
>>
>>136178427
>>136178440
So basically you're saying that i should save cavalry to enemy missile units and for flanking.
>>
>>136174781
What's wrong with Brothers of Metal?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsRt6NGAvk4
>>
>>136178558
In the early phases of the battle yeah.
I assume you're talking singleplayer, so here's what I usually use my cavalry for: First priority is to kill the enemy cavalry as fast as possible so as to get map control. Next you use one or two cavalry units to chase the skirmishers while the other cavalry units hammer the weakest flank for an easy rout. By that time you just move down the line insta-routing one unit at a time and that's basically a guaranteed victory
>>
>>136178830
Not him, but is it a bad idea to sacrifice my cav to take our arty? To sacrifice them in a "king of the hill" battle to stall the other army?
>>
>>136178961
I'm generally happy to lose a unit of cav in order to stop their artillery, but as the ai is generally awful at using it it's not a huge deal unless they've got lots of it.

>>136178961
Since cavalry is the best unit type in the game it's generally a bad idea to sacrifice your cavalry just for arty, unless it's large onagers. Normal onagers never get near 100 kills for the AI so it's never a priority for me to clear out their arty. But if it's left undefended I will definitely charge for it as fast as possible.

I use very standard armies early game and then very faction specific armies in mid-late game.
But my composition is usually:
General
4 cav (with at least one shock cav)
4 sword inf
2-4 spear inf
2-4 missile units
and then the rest of the army is for countering specific factions (more spear units against horse fuckers, more cav against barbar-scum etc.)

I've played it. It's a bit lacking like all modern TW games. Units feel very weak, they can't hold, its like the combat is too fast and they die and route too easily. I know it's fantasy not history but you cant really form any sort of line or use any historical tactics, it plays more like a typical old school RTS, just spam every unit onto another to do the most damage.

The purpose of shock cav is to to decisive damage on a charge, and to get the heck out of the engagement asap. They are used both historically and in-game to kill off or disable enemies on that first impact, with superior speed necessarily meaning less armour, as a rule of thumb. Hence they will be fucked over quite a bit in prolonged combat.

In my Franks campaign Jutes took half of france cutting off my advance south and the geats took southern spain and north africa. Best part about that scenario was I was never actually at war with the jutes either but I took all their land. They expanded too quickly and couldn't hold their settlements so I just waited for them to rebel and then kill off the weak faction that would emerge in it's place. I probably got half my crrent kingdom doing this. The jutes lost everything and are back in denmark now. AND they still like me. I cucked them pretty hard this time.

>The speech was not broadcast directly, but was replayed from a phonograph recording made in the Tokyo Imperial Palace on either August 13 or 14, 1945. Many elements of the Imperial Japanese Army were extremely opposed to the idea that Hirohito was going to end the war, as they believed that this was dishonourable. Consequently, as many as one thousand officers raided the Imperial palace on the evening of August 14 to destroy the recording. The rebels were confused by the layout of the Imperial palace and were unable to find the recording, which had been hidden in a pile of documents.

Stringing your units out until it's two ranks deep. It's fairly useful if slightly cheating against the AI because it gives you flank attacks sometimes but doesn't work against humans in newer total wars.

And yeah, hanging some of your units back makes sense normally when you're facing the entire enemy force, but not when you've got the enemy piecemeal and their main force is miles away and have an opportunity to overwhelm them with minimal casualties.

Not that anon but here's a neutral viewpoint, I feel M2 had the best sieges from the defenders perspective.

I dunno I hated how in Shogun 2 you had no way to tell where the enemy was going to deploy so you'd invariably position your archers on the wrong side, wasting time charging them over to the correct side. I swear I never used the lower tiers of a castle because of that, I just bunched everybody up at the top.

Attila was better I guess but still awkward. Best change was being able to use navies at the same time (I skipped Rome 2 so this was new to me)

Still reserving judgement though.

In every TW you always fought from one side, you never attack from two different points because it meant taking extra casualties to break through two different, points, that means taking twice the amount of ranged fire.

CA realized this and also realized the complaints that sieges felt lifeless because of settlements being unrealistically small and able to be attacked from all sides, the fighting was always over on the walls or slightly after and the only unit left was usually just the general in the main capture point.

By doing this they limit the amount of things the AI can fuck up and make sieges feel more like battles fought tooth and nail on the walls, although in one of the videos the AI kept a large reserve in the main plaza

Take your Rome 1 nostalgia goggles off and actually go an play it for a while.

Sieges in warscape games have been consistently dogshit. If it's not useless siege weapons in R2 it's overpowered yumi ashigaru in S2. If it's not spending TWENTY FUCKING MINUTES trying to actually get your line infantry to stand in the right spot on a star fort wall in Napoleon, it's having an entire cavalry unit wiped out by a single tower that fires flaming arrows with impeccable accuracy across half of the map.

Maybe a single wall is an improvement. Maybe walls broad enough to actually position and maneuver infantry is a good thing, instead of watching two units smash in to each other as one exits a siege tower on a narrow path. Maybe having ladders from the word go is better than sitting and waiting to actually attempt to siege a city with a single unit defending it. I cannot believe that someone is literally, genuinely, unironically attempting to defend siege battles in their current state.
>>
Can someone give me a brief rundown on how I'm supposed to play TW: Attila?

I've started about 5 campaigns now and they've all ended by AD401 at the latest - I just run out of money and food, I can't build bigger armies to take territory to get more money/food, but I can't afford to disband my current forces because I get my shit pushed in by the surrounding factions.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong - but there doesn't seem to be anywhere I can look to give me a good indication of some general practice I should be applying when playing?

Help me, /twg/ you're my only hope.

Am I the only one who thinks the TWW style of siege map is actually a good call? I mean, historically a siege was over the moment the walls fell to the assaulting force, you didn't have fighting in the streets of the city.

And with the current system, the route you take into the city is always dependant on the defenders deployment anyway, so the lack of route options isn't really an issue.

I'm not the anon who claimed the R1 sieges were good, I'm the one saying that Phalanx being able to hold a chokepoint isn't an issue.
>>136193696
>but that's what you did?
Arrow towers fire more and more arrows the more units are in their range, go play attila and realize that it fires two arrows if you have one unit of levy spears and four if you have two. Also, if you only attack from one place, you have no goddamn choice but to be in a moshpit, and being the attacker in a moshpit is never a good thing. The enemy isn't in a moshpit, they're theoretically behind each other waiting for their turn. I know that's not how the AI works but they should fix the AI, not force moshpits.
>>136193984
Rome 2 had a ladder to begin a siege with so you could assault instantly.
>walls broad enough to...
I can't say if it's good for WH, since I'm not familiar with the lore, but historically one of the main points of walls was that you fucking couldn't fight on them, you couldn't maneuver infantry en-masse on the things.
>siege tower on a narrow path
What the fuck is wrong with this? It's both historical and gives the defender their due advantage
Having ladders from the get-go is good, but having them appear out of nowhere is not.

>I can't afford to disband my current forces because I get my shit pushed in by the surrounding factions.

Not to take the piss but really; git gud.

Being able to do more with less is essential. Watch youtube matches and work out how to take out tier 3 heavy armies with tier 1 forces on the battle map and you'll never struggle on the campaign map.
>>
>>136194030
Stop making enemies. Attila is about desperate factions attempting to flee hostile lands; the AI is doing it, and depending on the faction so are you. Diplomacy in Attila actually works unlike every single TW title before it. It's a very powerful tool that can generate income through trade, through an ally on your border that allows you to cut down on your army, and so on. Battles are fun, conquering cities is fun. It's how you win in the end but most factions can't afford to be doing it from the word go.

Consider making friends near your home province and capturing lands far away. I know it sucks when your borders aren't perfect, but once you remember that you can fix them once you're in a decent position the options are endless. Have your Celts push the Romans out of Britain, and then conquer a few provinces in Hispania whilst you build up your cities at home. Consider creating puppet states instead of just capturing new land you won't be able to defend, shit like that.

Diplomacy is the name of the game, familia.

That's irrelevant, is as you say you attacked from multiple sides you wouldn't attack with one unit, the multiple units argument would still apply.

The only difference was that you would waste half your army trying to break through from two different sides, instead of simply breaking down all the towers on one side or at the very least using siege towers to get to disable them faster, you would get the same effect of attacking from two sides with half the casualties.

Why are you pretending you attacked cities from multiple sides? No one did, it was idiotic.

But you're not? You're facing twice the amount of arrows, not to mention of ranged units on walls since they have a more space to place them.

I played as the White Huns first, then the Geats, then the Alans, then the Tanukhids, I've just finished a Saxon campaign after the Burgundians moved across and wiped me out

Tactically the AI is pretty simplistic so I can regularly take out a full stack with a half stack, the issue is I'm generally dealing with eight to ten full stacks from different factions simultaneously.

>>136194439
I'm not sure how to not make enemies? Each campaign I've begun my relationships have been fully hostile with the surrounding factions, with some already at war with me. Case in point - in my Alans campaign I began the game at war with the Ostrogoths, the Bastarnians, the Roxolanians, and Eastern Roman Empire. Either play it and decide for yourself then, in which case if you still think it's crap feel free to come back on here and write a full-length dissertation as to why it's a bad idea.

While I'm not someone vehemently against WH, they're pretty different and in my opinion worse, the single wall thing I don't mind quite as much since I just envision it as 'this is the section of wall your forces are gathered at and want to breach / hold', but the idea that ladders pop out of your ass and you can't try to retreat to an inner section once the walls have been lost irks me.
And yes, I think that waiting to start a siege makes sense, there's nothing wrong with it, it's accurate, sensible and doesn't detract from my gameplay. The fact that the siege can be lifted by a supporting army before an assault could be ready was good and when I got hit with it by the AI, I was frustrated but also sort of happy that the AI wasn't going to just roll over and give me a city.
>>136196080
Noice. Can you rename generals though?
>>
>>136196108
This. Hit the Romans and you'll have about one legion to deal with relative to a huge empire to rape and pillage.

Because the AI cheats, a single region faction can produce a full stack army, so if you are at war with 20 minor, one region factions, you can be fending off ten or more stacks per turn, relative to one or two stacks from a huge empire.

Complaining about things you don't like is fine, but you need to fulfill certain conditions in order to make those complaints valid.

In this case, playing a siege for yourself before coming to a conclusion regarding whether the change is a positive or negative one is a prerequisite for that validity.

It's pretty simple stuff - if you don't have a complete view of a subject, don't comment on it, if more people stuck to this ideal then we'd have a lot less shit flying through the air right.

And I haven't stated anything objectively, that was someone else, I just want people to stop whinging, it's annoying.

Sand factions are all quite fun. Himyar have a fantastic unit roster, with great elite units for both religious paths, as are Axum. Tanukhids are a very fun faction, if somewhat difficult to play.

I'd say Himyar for Sand, Jutes for Vikings, or Ostrogoths for Vanilla.

>the idea that ladders pop out of your ass

See, it always bothered me that it apparantly takes three months to build a poxy set of ladders in Attila. Historically ladders were used to rapidly storm a fortification if you didn't have time to build siege engines and reduce the walls and create breaches. I like this change.

I think it's more realistic for the fighting to be concentrated on the walls, no defending army ever fought within the city itself, they'd either hold the walls or retreat to another wall or keep further in the city. Fighting in streets never happened until the age of the rifle, beyond routed defenders desperately trying to survive and escape via another gate.
>>

>your opinion isn't objective truth
Nobody's opinion is objective truth, but expressing your opinion on a matter should be allowed. There's no such thing as an 'objective' good thing unless you're defining what you mean by good. Accessibility and change aren't 'good' by themselves unless you're saying they're 'good' because it makes the game more accessible but that's circular reasoning.
Neither is remaining the same or being inaccessible, those aren't objectively good either. The whole point of these threads is to discuss i.e. share opinions that may or may not be agreed upon.

You're the only retard, people have given plenty of reason why this is a good change

-It makes the AI indirectly more competent by limiting the amount of fuck ups
-It allows to have visually realistic cities and not villages even for the largest cities
-It improves the gameplay by having the fighting concentrate on a long front, instead of a blob of units
-Walls are no longer a deathtrap that is more convenient not to man
-You can still fall back in the streets since the siege does not end once you capture the walls, as opposed to the shit the parrot spouts here
>>
>>136197107
I didn't say you should have to build the ladders, you should have a good number for free (6-8 sounds healthy), but not having them represented at all irks me. It just looks stupid, like a more glaring version of the teleporting pikes from R2 and Attila.
>>
>>136196304

Basically the only reason units carried ladders in MedII is because you could exit other gates as a defender and attack units while they were carrying them and vulnerable. You can't do that in TWW so what does it matter?

>>
>>136197581
I mean walls basically aren't a thing because you can just engage the enemy instantly on them. Like walls are designed to physically hold the enemy back but theyre basically just like a hill now. Considering fighting uphill gives a disadvantage too.

Units on the walls need the ability to kick ladders down.
>>
>>136197554
Because you can attack the ladders (even though it barely happened that you broke them) and because it looks less retarded than every infantry battalion having an archmage capable of the legendary spell 'create ladder' with them.
I want them to be free, I don't want them to be literally invisible and teleport into the hands of the infantry.
>>
>>136197426
Ah my bad, I didn't realise that's what they'd done. Yeah, the magical extendable pikes that pikemen kept in their pockets was stupid.

Not in the lore, but they have this in the tabletop gameplay as well for balance. Having an army of units that just straight up never run would be unbalanced as fuck.

On tabletop, when a unit is beaten in combat, you take a morale check to see if they flee, with undead, you take a crumble check to see if the magic animating the unit weakens and a bunch of skellies/zombies from the unit drop down like their strings have been cut.

compare any shogun multiplayer battle to Rome II or Attila they are way more intense and difficult to manage because combats last for barely 2 minutes. It gives you very little time to move cav into a rear charge and all the time both sides are pelted with deadly missile fire which you cannot afford to ignore. Attila and Rome is slow, static and missile fire does no damage except in the rear or flanks which is easy because the two lines pin eachother. Every youtuber they have had to play TWW has been caught out by the speed of combats because they've forggtten how to handle situations quickly like in Shogun 2.

I can't remember the name of the spell but the lore of vampires has one that can be cast on zombie/skeleton units to 'heal' the unit, which is essentially reanimating undead that have fallen, rather than a straight boost to morale to stop them crumbling in the first place.

On the tabletop, zombies are apparantly easier to reanimate than more advanced undead so they get a bonus to this and the necromancer can animate more of them with less magic.

>I'll just imagine it as the necromancer failing to keep up their battered bodies

That's exactly what it is, the more battered the unit is i.e. the more damage each individual zombie has taken, the harder it is for the necromancer to hold them together, so for example, a unit of zombies that's just been charged by Reiksguard from the rear and now has missing limbs and ruptured chest cavities and skulls everywhere, is harder to keep animated than a unit of fresh, intact corpses and so the more damaged members start to crumble as the necromancer focuses on the zombies that are still relatively intact.

This is why undead units are going to be immune to things like Terror in TWW, because their 'morale' represents what sort of physical condition the individual unit members are in rather than how they're feeling.
>>
>>136198349
>so they have handed out the game for reviews?

Nope, they were invited to a preview event. The version they played is a build from January.

Review copies are still a month away.
>>
>>136199348
The tabletop doesn't account for fatigue. It's true undead crumble at combat resolution, but it's also far easier to raise the dead in tabletop than what we've seen so far, with their 2 raise dead limit and deliberate attempts to keep reanimation toned down.

In TT if you couldn't decisively beat skellies they could easily end up with more models than they started with.

"Just Like the tabletop" would be a fine argument if this was very much like the tabletop at all. Morale is a very clumsy way to model crumbling, but whats with fatigue? It's just ridiculous.
>>
>>136199852

tl;dr It's not the skeletons getting tired, it's the necromancer who's puppetmastering them. Magic ain't easy.
>>
>>136200315
Enemy cav is usually there specifically for the purpose of removing your cav, and if they're almost at the walls there will be niggers in the ram approaching the gate.
>>
>>136200247
Did the skeletons break and run?
Then how is the morale system the same?

>>136200315
Because cityfights didn't happen you giant mongoloid. If you lost the walls you fell back into the inner keep or fortress inside the city. There were no magic chokepoints inside the city.
>>
>>136200131
So your contention is the magic that animates their bones is governed by their leadership, which drops when they are outnumbered (it's scary), there is someone flanking them (spooky!), or they are tired (shivering shinbones!)

But also fatigue is a measurement of this same magical animating power? It's very neat and tidy that this one animating magic can be divided into "morale" and "fatigue", the same as every other unit in every other total war since Shogun 1.

>>
>>136200798

Obviously? It makes perfect sense from a logical standpoint for the necromancer to be unable to maintain their control in the situations we've exposed.

What is even your point here? Are you so stupid that you're trying to argue undead units should be unbeatable? This is obviously TT and game mechanics set in place to give them weaknesses backed up by logic and lore, you trying to make it sound like it's some big conspiracy is laughable
>>
>>136200376
Yeah, because they react to morale hitting 0 differently. Instead of running the burst into treats. That doesn't mean they don't have it, they changed literally nothing about fatigue and morale for the Vampire Counts except what happens when you route.

I agree skeletons should begin falling apart if they are losing the combat, that matches tabletop. But the rest is embarrassing, and worse of all takes me out of the theme of the army.
>>
>>136201019

>But the rest is embarrassing

Except it's not? Zombies are also animated and they crumble, would you have been happier if instead of tired it would have had a magic power? Because that is what your argument boils down to, a fucking nomenclature.

>>
>>136200798
>I'm triggered by different perspectives so anyone who disagrees with me is a shill

I don't get the massive issue you've got. It seems reasonable to me. There's plenty of stuff I don't like about this game but the application of morale and fatigue to undead units isn't one of them since it's established that way in both the warhammer lore and tabletop rules.

Physical endurance has nothing to do with magical endurance. Just because a vampire can punch someone across the room doesn't mean he hasn't exhausted his reserves of the winds of magic and can't keep his zombies up anymore.

A unit of zombies that are still held together by flesh and sinue are easy to keep animated that one that's been sandwiched between two units of greatswords, repeatedly dismembered and is increasingly held together purely with magic.
>>
>>136201014
Nobody says they should be unbeatable, don't strawman. Skeletons already have shit stats, and if they are losing a combat will start losing by more as their crumble kicks in. That's all fine.

But the undead are unfeeling and untiring, its part of their whole horrific cliche. They should gain an advantage in protracted battles as mortal units get tired and they do not. That'd be a small enough advantage as it is in such a fast-paced game, but for some reason mr. skeletal is equally taxed by the afternoon's exertions.

It's no conspiracy at all, it's just laziness and conservative design decisions. CA didn't want to deviate too far from what they've always done with the Vampire Counts, and we were left with something that bears more resemblance to traditional Total War armies than what VC should have been. Its' a shame.
>>
>>136201273

>>
>>136201373

Then you are plain wrong, because mr. skeletal is not equally taxed, CA was directly asked this and they confirmed they would be highly resistant to such things.

It is a conspiracy when you make it sound like it's laziness when it's just a matter of design if they already gave them resistance to such thing, your argument is invalid.

>Undead having fatigue is established in Warhammer lore and tabletop rules

When will this meme end? I fight a vampire counts army about once a month. They don't tire, and they mostly don't die either. You need a big charge that deals devastating damage all at once or you need to kill the general. Anything resembling a tie and they just get back up on the Vampire player's turn. It'd be hilarious if he had to test for crumbling because he'd been marching them too fast, though.

Animating large armies is established in the lore as requiring large amounts of magical power, with more athletic/powerful undead requiring more magic.

That's why zombies get an extra D6 of zombies reanimated per spell, because they're still mostly intact and general fight by just swamping things, versus Wights who not only don't have muscle or ligaments to hold their bones together, but also need more magic to draw more of their previous soul back to the corpse to make them better fighters.

It stands to reason that the more they're being ordered to do, the more magic is required to keep them doing it and if the magic doesn't flow fast enough, they slow down and become less effective fighters.

Of course they don't fatigue on the tabletop just the same as mortal troops don't fatigue because there's no fucking fatigue mechanic.

You might as well ask for Empire state troops to be untiring because muh tabletop.

>Anything resembling a tie and they just get back up on the Vampire player's turn.

That's fucking necrons, vampire counts only get back up if you raise them back up with magic.

- Small scale
The walls are going to be significantly bigger and the area behind them as well when compared to current sieges.

- one wall with one gate
they've already mention in the siege blog that they can have more, not to mention that the walls are 3 times bigger than current paper walls.

- Ladders from nowhere
They make attack quicker, but they giver large penalties to using them, quick, cheap, but costly

- nerfed towers
They have to, the new sieges are about busting down gates and taking walls, which are actually large scale now, and wont be so easily destroyed by artillery unlike every other game, where paper walls got so easily fucking wrecked.

-- no more maneuvering or cavalry flank attack from side gates.

You can have multiple breaches through out a siege wall, you can still do this.

Overall, I don't understand people complaining about the new sieges lack strategic depth.
The new walls seem actually difficult to take, in basically every tw game, you can easily knock down a segments from a single side and easily flood in and take it. Sure you can maneuver, but it's a non-choice because direct swarming from one wall is the most cost effective and least time consuming. Until computers can handle massive cities with multiple angles, with walls as doubly thick as warhammers, this is the best we can get.
