Vastly improved the enemy shooting, now they can accurately bounce shots off walls to hit the player. Its actually pretty nasty with several enemies, since you can't rely that much on direct cover.

Hey nodevs, here making a coop tetris game.

the game will be a Tetris game where two players will control two blocks on the same screen at the same time, one the right blocks and the another the left ones.

So, if there is a place to put your incredible block but its on the other side, your m8 will have to fall down letting you reach the other side (because the two block fall at the same time, and one cannot go thought the other)
also, there will be events, power ups and all tons of shiet
(for example, a bomb that eliminates blocks on an area, events like putting the screen reversed, or a lot of MLG stuff going on, lasers and saws that slice falling blocks , baking the bottom sliced part falling inmediatly, and more)

its has been just two months that i've been working with unity, and this is my first serious project, so expect bugs and shiet.

what's probably going on is the distance traveled in that time is greater than the height of the block.

There's probably more to it, considering the inconsistency, but generally using the position of a wall bloack, rather than x amount of time to spawn a new block will be more consistent.

As an exercise in game dev, he's making a unique inventory, crafting as a mechanic, at a resolution that will scale well to most screens. It's structurally sound.

As long as there are some high res profile pictures, or half screen images to show the characters in more detail, the fappening will be happening.

Revisited that shygal thing I was working on last night. Thought maybe I could get past the lack of legs via a longer cloak.

It's one of the ideas I had for the game's lead villain, a "shy gal" with a Phanto mask going around collecting the keys out of some belief that she's some child of prophecy.
She's meant to be kinda an opposite to Mario, with her moves being similarly jumping and hammering. And as the game goes on she gets her own group of partners.


Is this looking like it has potential, or should I try something else entirely?
I feel she needs something more to her design if I were to go forward with it. Also, probably shouldn't make her default Shy Guy red, but not sure what other color she could be (I've been putting in way too much purple so far).

When I slip, I only slip northward until I start running southward. Slipping forward and back is weird, your inertia is only going to cause you to slip forward. It might take some people time to pick up speed into a run, but that's completely different from slipping.

Is there any sort of method or resource for learning unity scripting that's consistent and efficient?
I've watched about 10 hours of 2d platformer tutorial videos from four different sources, including the unity devs, and I feel like I've barely learned anything useful other than how to copy code that I don't really understand and can't build on or bug fix.
I've been trying to use the manual and scripting reference to at least work out what the various functions being used actually do and how to use them, but the explanations are usually so vague and abstracted from how they're being used in the tutorials that the explanation is practically meaningless.
At this point I'm seriously considering whether I should cut my losses go back to GM, even with all the great workflow features unity is rubbing in my face.

Do you basically need to learn C# before deving with unity to do anything useful it or is there some resource that I'm missing out on?

There's nothing wrong with developing a game, seeing it going nowhere, and cutting your losses instead of investing weeks and months going against your gut instinct. Often if an idea isn't working, it will require some minor/major restructuring, adding/removing or features. Some developers will be too prideful to give up and sink further hours in despite knowing better; often adding extra modes or juice.

Don't think of it as a failure on your part, think of it as a stepping stone to success. Every project is a stone; some are pebbles, others are rocks. Don't think of these projects as dead weight holding you down; think of them as solid ground under your feet, helping you reach for the stars above.

Well you can do both.
Greyboxing is fine for getting code framework together, but at some point you need to also consider your design direction and how things'll look.

And in some cases, you need those animations to test code things.
I'm probably going to try and animate Gloombob in the coming weeks so I can start putting in and testing the code for animating characters in the game, as currently I only have their object rotations and translations, and nothing to handle the sprite animation.

Looking for feedback on jumping physics.

My games not gonna be a platformer or anything, but I was just wondering what is the best type of jumping control for a character a game like a 3d platformer or action adventure type game.

Webm related is of one option I'm looking at. It lets the player control their speed mid-air(letting off joystick slows you down, holding forward speeds you up) and limits their rotation speed so they cant change direction in mid-air rapidly.

There are other options, but I wander what addy dag thinks.

Is that enlarged or is that actually the size you are working at? I want to assume the actual size because of the pixels and if that is the case there is a TON of detail you could be cramming into that for the size. If you are trying to keep the simple design maybe think about lowering the size since you can get the same exact look/feel at 1/3 the current size.

ONE MILLION NANOMACHINES

After one year and half working full time on the technology, it's now possible to build a megastructure with one million nanomachines.

There are 396 spawners, producing nanomachines powered by the same AI composed of 3 phases:
- phase 1: if the nanomachine reaches the diagonal of the big cube area, it becomes inert
- phase 2: inside the big cube area, if the nanomachine sees an inert nanomachine (from phase 1 or 2), it becomes inert
- phase 3: before entering the big cube area, if the nanomachine sees an inert nanomachine (from phase 2), it climbs up

Not even one bug, not even one misplaced nanomachine, no memory leaks at all. Yet the 3D part still has to be improved to get less drawcalls.

The whole process takes 2 hours and 2 minutes of real time on a 2006 computer, for a 2 hours and 4 minutes ingame process (it was filmed at the highest possible speed for my computer, a faster computer should get the same result in less than 2 hours).

It's mostly a stress test, the game shouldn't feature situations with so many nanomachines.
The alpha currently features the 50 first levels, and the levels involving tens and hundreds of nanomachines should come around Level 80.

They are trying to deliver a more cinematic experience as artists, but they use Game Maker over other engines due to ease of use and no need for programming. 60 FPS is avaialable to non-artists as well, just change it. Had an idea on how to make nukes feel more like WMDs instead of just bigger versions of the standard missiles. Instead of using shrapnel to deal damage, they create a spinning object that shoots lots of beams that apply heat energy to the ship they hit. This way we can get a heat radiation effect where ships shadow each other from radiation, and only the surface closest to the explosion is affected. It's also a lot cheaper than using bullet projectiles, as we can spread the required amount of raycasts over many frames instead of having to cast one ray per projectile.

Something I've been forgetting to do while getting combat stuff down, the different ways it can start.
But it was simple enough to fix.
Just put my whole combat loop under a big "If bool combatOn == true" and made a function that runs at the start given some variables and sets combatOn once completed.

All watercraft tend to slow down a lot whenever they're turning, especially if they drop out of a hydroplane. Hydraulic friction is massive.

I would make that an important mechanic, actually: maintaining a plane even around corners.

There's not that much to get good at, memorizing two combos and reading your opponent once for a reset is pretty much enough to win. Lab0 made the mistake of thinking more combo length potential raised the skill ceiling.

Blue: Boost fuel. Boosting decreases fuel, doing things other than boosting or boosting through a dead enemy's explosion replenishes it. If it fully depletes, it won't refill to max until you get your engine serviced.
Red: Life bar. You have to buy it. You can get upgrades to it.
D-Pad boxes: Quick use items like health refills or grenade-y things.

Yellow boxes: Weapon select/active weapon.
Small yellow: Cooldown. Each subweapon shot will reduce the bar. Not using your subweapon will fill it up.
Big yellow: Ammo reserve. Depletes as cooldown refills.
