Here's the original image if you care. Paint.exe's object Wrap plugin won't work on the current version, so I couldn't give it a nice black outline.

Also used Arial black. Feel free to use another font if you want to.

I feel like ppsspp is a bit topheavy to be a libretro core anyway. Too many settings, etc.

It's not as bad as trying to make say, dolphin into a core, but imo it's not the best suited for it, so I could see why there's not as much interest.

Not to mention, retroarch is all about portability, and is there anything other than a desktop computer and maybe some high-end phones capable of running ppsspp?

So I've been wanting to turn my toaster into a cool arcade machine, but I've been seeing two main choices for emulators:

Fightcade
MAME

Any help? Is fightcade just another form of MAME? I can't seem to see the difference between them, other than the fact that fightcade has net play.
>>
>>135884986
fightcade is finalburnalpha, and has a limited number of games it can play (though it will probably play 90% of what you want.)

I've been trying to find out what the aspect ratio of Front Mission 3, and google has failed me hard. Anyone know how to check the native resolution of a game on say retroarch for example? I'll try anything as long as its sure-proof.

The root of the problem is our countries have become corporatocracies, and their interests have usurped the people's interests. Copyright was a deal meant to bolster the public domain with a limited monopoly. But corporations like Disney have made an absolute mockery of the concept (life plus 70 to 120 years), and will continue to extend it indefinitely so that Mickey Mouse never falls into the public domain.

Copyright was once and should become again 14 years long. And further, the cessation of official sales of a product should end said copyright. But we the people have no power to change the legal landscape. So our only option is civil disobedience. And the internet has empowered us greatly there. They can pass all the laws they want, and make the fines as great as they want. But they can't put us all in prison.

It basically will need to be hacked by someone nice and spread around to be good, because the bad things are fully intentional - namely the forced composition causing bad input delay, and the keylogger/monitoring part that reports regularly to a location that coincidentally happens to be where the United States' NSA headquarters is, which will take up bandwidth even if you don't care about genuinely amoral people having your passwords and private conversations.

AMD has driver issues with everything. At this point AMD might as well just shut down their PC GPU business and just make console APUs
>>

if you skipped 8.1 then how could you.
>>135907893
considering you get an inherent boost in performance from the api that nvidia wont see and the dx12 performance increases that come from more direct hardware access that benefit emulators so well there should be no question.
>>135908092
there are already emulators out that utilize dx12 though.
>>135908649
although I can agree that forcing updates seems draconian. there really isnt a reason not to update your security loopholes. Their reasoning behind it is sound as well. they want everyone on windows to have the newest os on the most recent build to make optimizing games much less of a hassle kind of like how consoles are easy to optimize because of this. I mean its really not necessary but devs these days are lazy and this is ms way to combat the problem.

Every time I start the netplay game (or he does) we're immediately frozen on a black screen with 0 FPS, 0 VPS, 0%. The only people with similar complaints on google don't have any replies to them.

the nsa shit is infuriating but you wont be able to avoid it even with linux. theres a security program built into every build of linux that was designed by the nsa. this happened years ago. looks like out of all companies apple is the only one holding out on the nsa atm. As much as I hate them this was a bold move. also fuck you for making me read most of that shit you should be ashamed. personally I like games so windows is the only choice atm.
>>
>>135910426
>sure but they wont show any performance increases.
AMD's DX12 performance gains have more to do with AMD's crappy DX11 performance than anything. Nvidia pushed the limits of DX11 by designing their architecture to exploit it, and therefore DX12 brings fewer benefits.

>>135916657
Lot of work for ??? benefits that are apparently just for already-bad graphics hardware vendors. Why wouldn't you just upgrade to 7 instead of all that?
>>
>>135916923
Lots of work is relative. The effort is for peace of mind and feeling like you aren't being sold against your will.

If you have a pfsense router https://www.pfsense.org/ or a router with custom firmware http://dd-wrt.com its pretty easy to do.

Hell I even have a VM running a thing called pi-hole just for blocking ads on the network. https://pi-hole.net/

None of it is difficult. You set it up and don't have to worry about it.

Sure you can install Windows 7 but you are still sending crap to Microsoft. Block it once on the router and ALL the computers on your network are protected.

The NSA can just force them same as Microsoft. Did you think this whole "make virus spying OS and give it away for FREE" thing was Gates' idea or something? They don't have a choice, and if they don't neither do Apple.

The only safety is open source "LMAO NO GAMES, HOPE YOU LIKE MANUALS" operating systems, simply because they can't hide anything with the source shown. Welcome to the dystopian future.

>Why?

Its obnoxious and I'd rather spend my time doing other things. If I have to remember or look up commands to install the os then its a failure on their part as far as I'm concerned because other distros wont waste my time on nonsense.

I've used linux for years and adore the hell out of it but telling anyone to use command line for things like installs and updates is insane.

I've put in my dues doing shit like looking up monitor specs to configure X just to get something to display over the years. I'm old, tired, cranky and done with that type of bs.
>>
I don't even dislike command line, it just bothers me to see software present options and functions without describing them right there when there's plenty of room to do so on the prompt/panel/window - and instead make you go through reference documents to find it. Plenty of Linux developers know about immediate-teaching design style though, so it's not really something I'd call an OS problem. SP just needs to catch up a little is all. Description text with the options would clear up all retardation-related user complaints instantly.

GLideN64 supports LLE, though. Heck, even Glide64 supports LLE now, thanks to purplemarshmallow cut-and-pasting GLideN64's LLE code into PJ64's Glide64 fork. It's very buggy--far buggier than GLideN64--but it works.

So there's really no excuse.

Also, HLE allows for some rather nifty visual enhancements. All you can do with LLE is texture mods.

I don't think you understand how N64 emulators work. LLE graphics is really not that hard to do because the bulk of the work is done on the RSP plugin. You just need to handle the RDP side of things on the video plugin. PJ64 is primarily LLE.

It looks to me as if Gonetz is working all week, and then spending a few hours of each night on the weekend debugging GLideN64. He's fixing a fair few bugs. If he can keep up this pace, he'll bring GLideN64 up to Glide64 levels of game compatibility before long. And then the only remaining problem before it can become PJ64's main video plugin is ensuring that it can run on a wider range of hardware.

The second problem is fixing GLideN64's LLE. The main problems are performance, broken depth buffer, and no fog. The foundation of GLideN64 is very good. A majority of bug fixes improve both LLE and HLE compatibility.

Purplemarshmallow and HatCat are also working on z64gl, and have made some significant improvements. But z64gl lags way behind GLideN64 in a lot of areas.

LegendofDragoon is handling that. He's just a bit procrastinating. He ummed and awwed for months about fixing the RSP recompiler for Factor 5 games, and it took purplemarshmallow to actually do something about it.

And that something was simply making the Semaphore Exit hack only apply to a few games (such as World Driver Championship) instead of everything. https://github.com/project64/project64/pull/1033

Gonetz is currently focused on fixing bugs that GLideN64 has but Glide64 doesn't. Coincidentally, Glide64 crashes Jet Force Gemini if you open the config menu while the game is running unpaused.
>>
>>135932158
>LegendofDragoon is handling that. He's just a bit procrastinating.
He can't even run it properly nor compile, based on his posts. So it's probably up to Gonetz.

>Coincidentally, Glide64 crashes Jet Force Gemini if you open the config menu while the game is running unpaused.
But at least PJ64's Glide forces it to pause. Sucks to crash a game because of opening the config..

Jabo's pauses the emulator for me. What version of Jabo's? What version of PJ64?

The only think X432R did that the regular Desmume didn't was higher internal resolution scaling, so models in 3D games would look better.

I don't know if the regular Desmume ever added it in, but either way, X432R isn't relevant anymore

Close sourcing and asking for money is one thing, but I think it's justifiable in the case where an emudev gets absolutely no help from anyone. Catering to parasites doesn't always help emulation.

Start by putting everyone in the back row so they take less damage. Have Edgar spam Autocrossbow, Sabin spam Aura Bolt, Terra cast Fire, and Banon just heal every turn.

You'll find the majority of characters do not benefit from being in the front row, at least with proper setups.

Go to the menu. Press left, then tap the button on the characters twice. This will change their row placement. They will now take less damage in exchange for Attack dealing less, but characters' special abilities and Magic ignore this, so they deal full damage always.

pleased to learn there's more game mechanics in this game, but this was a bit awkwards to learn. thank you again.
>>
Some more general FFVI tips just because I love this game and just got done with a playthrough not too long ago:

- With the exception of characters like Locke, most characters have an ability or magic that pretty much obsoletes their Attack command. You'll be wanting to use these over Attack for the most part, especially given most of the time they ignore row placement, so you can keep them in the back row for less damage.

- The Evade stat does nothing, so do not equip anything that raises it unless it gives other stat boosts. Mblock stat governs it instead.

- You'll be meeting Shadow again soon. You can optionally recruit him, but there's a chance he'll run off after any random fight, so save frequently during this bit if you want to keep him throughout.

- Speaking of Shadow, he appears at another point about halfway through. Without giving anything away, there will be a countdown. WAIT FOR HIM. You'll know what I mean when you get there.

So RPCS3 will use DX12?
I should buy an AMD after all
>>
Continued

- You said you don't wanna grind much so it goes without saying, but don't level up too much at this point. Later on you'll actually be able to equip things that give nice stat boosts upon leveling, namely your HP, MP, Vigor, Magic, Stamina, and Speed. IMO only Vigor and Magic are worth boosting. Speed sometimes too, but you won't be able to boost that until way late in the game. Keep in mind this is entirely optional and it hardly matters in the end, but if you're into min/maxing it's good to keep this in mind.

- Soon you'll meet a swordsman and a boy. The swordsman is pretty based in-story, but battle-wise gets more and more worthless in comparison to every other character as the game goes on. The boy starts out pretty good, and is potentially one of the best characters in the game, but due to the way his "gimmick" works, it takes a ton of work to make him worth using later. If you don't feel like putting in the time to improve him, he quickly becomes close to worthless.

Oh, speaking of stat boosting, if you do decide to do this, do NOT bother boosting Sabin's Vigor. Even though he's a burly-ass monk and has high base Vigor, the majority of his Blitzes are actually Magic-based, including his best one (which still rapes face even without boosting, but whatevs).

Hello gents. I am having problems getting Project 64 to work. I believe I might have got a corrupted download version of it I am afraid. I am not exactly certain however, as the application seems to work okay initially. When launching a game however, it crashes.

I got a 1.4 version of it off a EMU site.

I will be posting a sequence of images to showcase what I have encountered. Hopefully you lads might be able to help me pinpoint what is going on.

Mind you, I got this as a zip. I would uninstall it, but... Well, I am not exactly certain what the uninstallation process (5th) will do to my computer, considering it says that it will alter a few registries, something that sound like it could fuck up my PC if I am not careful. I have already Googled for solutions to this, only to find what seem to be guides intent on installing malware or nothing at all.

So if you lads don't mind, I would appreciate the assistance.

If required, I can post more screen caps for more available info.

To clarify, I have since learned post installation of the 1.4 version that there were updated versions. By the time I learn of them however, 1.4 was already installed.

From what I can tell, the ROM for SSB seems to be alright, as I have already tested it on a handheld PSP with the Daedalus64 emulator.

I am not certain of the Emulator itself.
I would try for a clean install, but I am unfortunately quite unlearned and uncertain in these activities, thus why I am referring to you gents before potentially performing a fuck up job on my PC.

I have already tried installing a fresh installation of another 1.4 download to see if that was the issue, yet to no avail.

Pic is where I got the link.

I was an idiot. I didn't check if the download link was the latest one. I am paying for that by being stuck with the 1.4 version. I would like to update it, but I am hesitant to do so out of fear of damaging my PC. The 5th pic illustrates one of the options, but in order to go through with it, it requires interacting with my registry.

As it stands, I have seen no info as to what this will do to my PC, Googling has brought up nothing as to whether this procedure will be safe or not.

I'm emulating Suikoden 2 on ePSXe and something weird is going on. It runs fine at first, but after about 20-30 minutes of play, various sprites start... wobbling? I guess is the word I would use? This only affects a sprite that is remaining static while the screen moves, so for example a bush will shake around but Riou himself is fine. On the other hand in a scene where he crosses the screen as it remains still, he will tear up and shake and stuff.

The really weird thing is that it gets progressively worse the longer I play. At first it's just a few small things like the aforementioned bushes, but it gets worse and more sprites start shaking and looking disconnected from each other. Is it a memory thing or something? I was able to play Suikoden I just fine for hours at a time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Not him but there's this funny thing about programs. If a program works in 2004 it still works in 2016 unless a new OS somehow breaks it. I've switched to foobar but there are still reasons why Winamp is better in some niche cases. I've noticed even mp3s tend to sound a bit different when played back with either winamp or foobar, and in some cases I prefer the winamp output, although not enough to continue using it but I'd keep an installer of it around.

Okay, so I managed to get my Gamecube controller working on RetroArch. I went to start binding my keys, but it seemed to unbind my keyboard. I would have been fine with this but for some reason, when I tried to bind the accept button, it didn't bind to my A button, then it unbound to my X key so that I can no longer use it on either my GC controller or my keyboard. Since I can't seem to fix this with the GUI, what file do I need to fuck around with to reset this, and possibly manually set up my GC controller rather than through GUI?

sup /emug/, how would I go about trying to play pic related? I found some not so up-to-date experimental emulators that I could try and learn how to compile and use, and apparently it's "compatible" for the 360 but has a lot of bugs (I do have a modded 360 lying around somewhere), but failing that I might have to see if I can resurrect my old as shit (possibly soft-modded) original xbox and find a way to actually plug it into one of my computer displays... so I figured the emulator approach would be easier overall, assuming there's any progress being made

Thanks, I completely overlooked it in the main folder since I changed .cfg to open automatically with notepad so I didn't realize what it was from a quick scan of all the files. Now I managed to get my keyboard keys back to normal.

I've just started messing around with RetroArch so I know nothing about autoconfig files. Does there happen to be a quick guide to setting them up? I could probably piecemeal the knowledge necessary by looking at all the existing files, and a little bit of testing, but I'm too lazy/tired to do all that work right now.

Do you also consider the PS1/N64 as the dark ages of gaming? No the eras before that weren't the dark ages, those were even worse, those were bronze and prehistoric ages.

I skipped them completely because I consider them irrelevant. I started with the PS1 era. I played about 80% percent of the relevant PS1 library and I despise them.

It was no fun playing them. It was torture. Okay 5-6 titles were fun. But that was about it. Mostly it was hell. Now I focus on the PS2 era the and then after the PS3/360 era - the one true eras - and I feel so relieved.

I really value gaming now, after living through PS1-Hell for months. The only purpose of outliving the PS1 -Hell was to value gaming and the eras beyond 32bit so, so so much more now.

I value older games now so much more, I can see all the detail in modern games and beautiful game mechanics of them and also the quality and level of detail of the first 3d games on ps2 and ngc, while before I was very spoiled by HD graphics.

The PS1/N64 lowered my standards so much that the 5th and 6th gen are I like 4K to me. I feel happy graduating from the PS1 era into a better future. Thank you PS1.

That's what I used anon... I've used it before with my PS4 controller, and it worked exactly as expected. When doing it with my gamecube controller, it unbound my keyboard keys, and it didn't bind my confirm key so I lost the ability to do anything besides scroll through the menu but unable to actually select anything. I had to rebind my keyboard in the config file.

On a side note, autoconfig files are supposed to work in retroarch's main menu right? For some reason it wasn't working, although there seems to be an autoconfig file for my adapter/GC controller. Maybe it was just my GC controller acting funky at first.

I used to laugh at people who bash standalone emulators, but I how bad some of them are. It's sad to require OpenGL 3.2 for a SNES emulator. I don't see how byuu can claim to be all for preservation, when his code isn't even portable.

>>136084130
I'm glad you at least admit that most C++ programmers don't understand that. Sure you can code things correctly in C++ and get the job done well enough, but why even use C++? I'd rather code in a more direct way. C and Assembly do the job well for me. Kind of sad how byuu writes very inefficient code, just for arbitrary code cleanliness.

Guys is there a way to compress the Rondo of Blood iso to a smaller size without affecting the game much? Maybe by compressing the audio a bit? I'm playing the game on my phone with PCE.Emu and it works perfectly, but having a 500mb iso for a game that could be much smaller bothers me. I don't mind having compressed audio if I could just compress it to 100mb or less. Same goes for Sonic CD too.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be paid, but a lot more progress could potentially be made if they opened up the project for everyone in the community. It might not be the same but I'm sure a lot of people would support the Patreon anyways, and the good will might go a long way for the original developers. And what if something happened to the developer? What if they decided fuck everyone and just walked away from the project? I'm not saying making it open source would be automatically better but in the long run it's the right thing to do. There are a lot of talented people in the emulation community and the additional manpower would surely result in something. I won't deny that I'm being impatient but I don't think that invalidates what I'm saying.

I haven't been part of this discussion until now and I suspect that there's a healthy amount of falseflagging and straight out trolling going on so I'll try to stay away from it but one thing is for sure: developping a closed-source, for-profit emulator for a console that's still being produced is completely black hat. Most of emulation is in a gray area to begin with but this is piracy straight and simple.

You can not care for it (I barely care myself) but arguing that it's absolutely fine and there's nothing scummy about it is just ridiculous.

Again the GBA proved that it's not what actually happens especially because back then any computer could emulate it somewhat well, and even if we had good WiiU emulation tomorrow it would probably still be restricted to people with high end computer effectivelly making sure that buying the real thing is still a better alternative in many cases.

That's a big if. Sounds like he's not doing a great job with PPSSPP as >>136126530 seems to imply. Um, he's handled it quite well all things considered. It works a lot better than upstream version in several ways, particularly regarding Glide64

>Frankenmupen would be better today, if SP catered to other devs who would be willing to help.

He already caters to devs already by providing a static makefile and making the build have zero dependency requirements. It's literally as easy as "make -f Makefile.libretro"
>>
>>136133737
>Um, he's handled it quite well all things considered. It works a lot better than upstream version in several ways, particularly regarding Glide64
Sure some things are better than upstream but not all. For instance, the LLE RSP was behind for many months, while the m64p team was able to keep their fork more up to date. Then there's the fact that standalone m64p has GLideN64 which is superior to Glide64 in many ways.

I don't like the fact that SP would rather just revert the commit to "fix" kirby64, instead of just fixing the MSVC solution setup so that another dev can do a proper fix and make frankenmupen actually great.

MSVC is a poor man's compiler and Visual Studio is a kiddiefied conception of an IDE.

Highly unlikely with that crappy DirectDraw code which is emulated on modern WIndows versions.

That "crappy DirectDraw code" is actually also faster than hatcat's opengl code. Using Windows 10 for N64 emulator is a bad idea anyway.

Reverting to m64p's old code is not what I would have wanted him to do. Project64 did the best job with that particular function.

I got a weird question about dolphin

Recently, I'd been playing a game that initially loaded in widescreen with black bars on the top/bottom. However I noticed that if I tabbed away from the window and then back it would somehow reconfigure itself to be fullscreen without the black bars or stretched aspect ratio

Suddenly that doesn't work anymore, and just manually setting it to fullscreen doesn't seem to be the same effect because it runs way worse

But you're apparently unwilling. If the MSVC solution was THAT big of a deal, you could have already done one yourself in all this time. Or at least met them halfway in some way.

It's really not going anywhere to demand that they prepare an MSVC solution they don't care much about, it's like demanding PPSSPP to support MinGW.

I think libretro would be getting the better end of the bargain. All they have to do is get msvc working and they will receive bug fixes. I've wasted enough time with MinGW to ever care about compiling anything with it. MinGW has inferior performance for Angrylion's, so I see absolutely no reason to use it for N64 emulation.

Try being friendly and optimistic for once, and you may like the results :) .

Looks like it's baked in.
If you wanted the DX9 version you'd edit this:
https://github.com/punesemu/puNES/blob/master/src/video/d3d9/shaders/crt/crt-geom.h
And SDL's machine translated, so you're not editing that.

But you're probably best off using RetroArch, there's a dummies guide on the wiki if you haven't used it before, and you can change shader parameters at runtime (so you can toggle curvature on/off on crt-geom).

Not exactly, but they lock content behind co-op play, like certain monsters can only drop during co-op
Not only that, but co-op has higher drop-rates, uses less stamina (I hate this concept in mobile games so much), and offers bonuses
It makes sense in a place like Japan, but not for suburban life in the United States
