Since both Antiquarian and Musketeer is out are you glad the kickstarter backers voted for them or do you wish we could have gotten the alternatives instead?

The alternatives for Antiquarian were for her to have a gypsy or privateer aesthetic. What we got now was from the backers voting for a "silk road" aesthetic.

The alternatives for Musketeer were a crusader reskin (described as some sort of dark knight) and a female occultist reskin (described as a witch.)

While I like Jewfu and Musketfu, a pirate chick or a witch could have been cool too.

Privateer sounds like it could be fairly close to GR, which is good, variety be damned. And, well, I'm still calling the Antiquarian a gypsy. Both of those have potential, but I'm okay with what we got.
In my opinion, the Crusader needs not a reskin, but a buff. And edgy dark version of him wouldn't help anything. Occultist-Witch could be... alright? I'm confident the Musketeer was the best choice here.

Remember that privateer/gypsy would still have been like the Antiquarian in that they'd be weak but good at sniffing out shekels. The backers only got to vote on a vague description of what her appearance would look like.

A privateer might have only had a dinky fencing sword or some other weak weapon to defend herself with. Maybe the comic/dialogue would have implies she was just a low ranking cabin girl who offed her captain.

So I just read The Rats in the Walls and found the story basis to be pretty closely related to DD. Not only the premise(finding an ancient evil in the ruins of your ancestral home) but the tiny things like the main character dreaming of disgusting cannibalistic swinefolk.

Are these any other stories from Lovecraft that directly relate to some area in the game like the Rats in the Walls relates to the Warrens and the Darkest Dungeon?

Not really swine; the human livestock just degenerated.

The Shadow Over Innsmouth features deep ones similar to the fishmen in the Cove. Besides that and the cosmic, tentacly fleshy stuff, the horror aesthetic is pretty general and not particularly related to Lovecraft's writings. That said, I recommend that you play to the rest of his stuff on audiobook while dungeon crawling; the HP Lovecraft Literary Podcast also makes for fantastic listening.

You don't even need that shit. A properly built leper can solo as it is.
He's got huge damage, he's got strong buffs, he has effective self heals for both HP and stress, he can debuff the the front rows, his camp skills are powerful buffs and remove loads of stress with no downside when he's alone, and he has great survivability from stats alone.

He actually does better soloing medium runs than short ones, since he can drop 55 stress at camp and buff resistances.

Listen. Heal over time is much stronger than an equal amount of instant healing, because it will take them off death's door automatically every turn. Excess damage past what drops them to zero doesn't do jack, which means that even just healing 1 per turn for three turns means that you can tank three treetrunk smackdowns without fear of a deathblow, giving the equivalent (in that instance) of 60+ hitpoints

My advice? Just give yourself a bunch of backer heroes and experiment with what skills are good for what. They're completely replaceable, so there's it's stress if you lose them. Then, once you've dicked around and figured out some good team comps, ditch the save and start fresh with what you've learned.
Grabbag of advice: always bring an herb and holy water on pretty much any mission, Man at Arm's Riposte skill is much better than it looks (combos well with aunty's Protect Me! to get the MAA making two or three free attacks every round, right off the bat), occultist is a better healer than vestal if your heroes have good bleed resist, MAA's accuracy buff turns a Leper into a killing machine, Grave Robbers are great DPS, Jesters are best used for buffs and destressing, don't bring Houndmasters into the ruins (though they're great everywhere else) since they rely on bleed, DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE DOG TREATS, and Abominations can carry a team.
Bounty Hunters are poor alone, but great with synergy. Team up an Arbalest w/ Mark/Shot/Heal/Flare, Bounty Hunter w/ Collect/Mark/Hither/Flashbang, Grave Robber w/ Dagger/Fade/Lunge/Darts, and MAA w/ Defender/Retribution/Bolster/Crush. Keep Riposte and Guard up on the MAA and reap the delicious marked target damage bonuses against everything. Use the GR's Fade and Lunge to enable her stuns or move back into dart range for blight. BH can drag the squishy casters and gunners out in front. Arbalest is actually a pretty good healer with a +healing skill trinket and gets better and better the more times you need to heal one person in a row, which synergies nicely with the MAA drawing fire.
