Even "flying" units like Gatekeepers and Archons only really hover, the only times they 'fly' is when floors break under them or when Archons use Blazing Pinions, and neither use that capacity to fly overhead and flank you like EU Floaters.

If people mod in jetpacks/flying armor, I imagine it will take substantial work. I don't think the framework for actually flying like Floaters and Archangel armor did even exists in 2.

I find Sharps to be situational in general, but if you need someone who can keep up with he squad and still engage, Gunslingers are pretty good. Just make sure to equip them with ammo items, especially if you can get AP rounds, since those can mitigate or negate the problems of pistols (the damage per shot being low), either through ignoring the armor that would fuck you over (AP) or dealing excessive additional damage (bluescreen vs. anything mechanical).

They also work nicely for trash clearing, as you can use Face-Off to drop a bunch of aliens if you set it up with your Grenadiers to leave them low and with no or shit cover.

I think Gunslingers work the best when they are modded to be able to use a normal rifle/SMG or something like the Reach mod's DMR. It fits their mobility more than the sniper and gives you the option of Pistol->Rifle if you can sit still, and let you use a rifle for higher damage when your pistol abilities are on CD.

I don't know how blazing pinions work, but if the archons are actually moving to a spot when they use it, and it's not just an animation that plays, then it means the ability to move in 3d is already in the game. Which should mean that the ability to stay in midair and shoot from midair should in theory, bet somewhat simple to implement.

I don't know anything about coding for the game though so i'm just guessing.

Judging from the times I've used it with MC Archons, it's likely more animation than anything. But I haven't torn apart the code (nor have much of a head for it) to figure it out. But when a player does it you just select an area to AoE, the archon flies up, does his thing for a turn, then comes back down.

Full sniper sharpshooters are still stronk, even with the accuracy nerf at range.

Put a skellington suit on them and put them up somewhere and they wreck shit. Especially so if you use killzone with extended mags during a concealment opening.

Oh, no doubt, I just feel they're situational and require you to plan your turns around them in order to be able to actually use them. I have a couple myself that I made purely to try and force myself to learn and I've seen some good use out of them (especially with abusing the combination of proxy mines + Kill Zone + Super. Extended Mag) but ultimately I prefer gunslinger snipers because they suit how I play better.

Sharpshooters are kind of a YMMV class. More than anyone other class I feel like you need to consider your playstyle in how you build and use them.

Sectopods haven't shown yet. Closest thing to them has been cyberdiscs. Generally with those if you hear cyberdiscs you want to make sure you've got at least 2 shots at all times, even in the middle of another engagement. First you need to ItZ the 2 drones it comes with, then it's just like any other enemy; break LOS, opportunist overwatch, every now and then Disable Weapon for a free 2 or 3 damage and a more stable platform for your next shot

Also, Chrysallids mean that the first terror mission is likely to be either impossible or require creative grappling hook use. I tried it once, found it to be a pretty stupid idea. On the plus side, not outfitting a full squad means tons and tons of credits for satellites. Now, though, with the jetpack, if you hear melee units, just shoot everything else, activate them with a blue move, and fly with your next. Berserkers are even easier to cheese; just go up a ladder onto a roof, reload, then spam overwatch, then go down the ladder when it climbs up and gets shot.

If I could tell Solomon grundy something to add in the EW equivalent for Xcom2 it would be have 1 or 2 defensive missions added to the guerilla ops/councilman missions. Protect the communication device doesn't count because those missions still play out the same way - seek and destroy with you starting off on the other side of the map while the ayys are often literally next to the objective. It would be a mission type where you have to hold the line for X turns, or hold off Y waves with your men already at the position to defend.

I use that and Not Created Equally.

Sometimes it can give you terrible troops but I like it for the variety.
Just as you get terrible troops you get god-like troops who start off at 75 AIM as a Rook.
Some people might not like it for mix maxing but I enjoy the RNG.

There's also a mod out there that dynamically improves your troops based on what they did during a mission, I love the sound of it but from what I read, it can be a bit buggy.

I gave it a shot on a late-game save. It's a little too OP IMO, but I also had some really, really poor luck because Gremlins are absolute fuckers and activate EVERY POD THEY HAPPEN TO MAYBE SEE IN THEIR PERIPHERAL VISION. Even if the squad can't. Because fuck you.

So I ended up staring down like 15-20 elite ADVENT, with an archon or andro or two. With flares dropping on every wave past 7.

I ended up not bothering to see how that played out after a round or two of trying to stabilize (not happening, given I had started in a corner comprised of shitty, low cover and had spent much of my explosives dealing with a 3-zerker pack and a sectopod that'd spawned right on top of me).

Admittedly I play with a mod that amps up pod sizes so that didn't help but it still feels way over tuned, especially late game where the resistance rookies you get are literally useless (think ballistic base defense personnel in a late game LW base defense to get an idea) and you don't get reinforcements of them or other troops, so it's a brutal grind through the enemy without any relief coming.

From what I saw in the mod's comments apparently you actually have to kill everything too, instead of evaccing once you hit the turn limit which sounds like it ought to change because it really feels like a mission that hinges a lot on luck with regards to your starting location and enemy pod placement. If you get them all clustered around you and your cover is literally a fence and some trees, you're pretty hosed.

The reinforcements and armor were never a problem for me. You can overwatch camp the reinforcements and if all your gunners have shredder armor isn't much of an issue.

The faceless however can run up and attack on the turn they reveal. Early on it is enough to kill an operator. Later on, less likely.

That's a tough one then, you could in theory handle all three of them well, but it mainly depends on your playstyle. I.E...

stay away from civilians, keep a good distance, even if it's retaliation. One of the best things you can do against faceless is force them to use two move turns, because at that point you -know- they won't be attacking, and it's not hard to hit them after that.

This again can be handled with a careful playstyle, be careful, setup ambushes around the drop point if you can.

I didn't get a screenshot because my game went full disco lights on it, but my last playthrough ended with my Ranger smashing the last Avatar in the face with the butt of her shotgun for exactly 1HP.

That said, I don't think any pods on the last mission made me shit a brick as much as this one did. Even the 2 Gatekeeper/3 Codex pod I ran into at the end was more easily managed than the entire fucking starting line up of the Green Bay Packers.

to be honest these issues are less to do with mods and more to do with the fact the game has no real challenge once you reach max level guys and have mag/plated

in the early game, large pod sizes without any bonuses to make up for it basically make legendary ironman unplayable

however, adding increased pod sizes to lategame, while it balances the difficulty a little, it's still basically a fucking faceroll because you're so powerful

there's no happy medium because the game mechanics lead to this

Is this glowing a problem with my Multimasks? When the mesh isn't textured the shadows are appearing just fine, but when all diffuse/multimasks/normals are applied it gets this weird glow and shadows go through.

Anyone else feels like character customization is really... flat? I can't quite wrap my finger around it, but for some reason I don't have quite as much joy building up teams as I had in the first game, despite all the enhanced character customization.

Maybe I've just played the game too much, but I think it has something to do with the fact that by the moment your rookie graduates into one of the 4 classes you practically have already seen all the customization you'll be able to apply to him, while on the first game there would always be one or two things you could add "on top" of that, so to speak.

They really dropped the ball by not making psionics into a hybrid class that changed what abilities your character had access to depending on their starting class, and by making them unique.
