Oh yeah, the voice is different. But they're dark haired guys with the same beard pattern.

This guy is fucking retarded, anyway. Holy shit, he keeps fucking charging his cavalry at them alone, what the fuck is wrong with this guy? He's just leaving his infantry in place and "harassing them" (read: suicidally charging) with his remaining cav, and talking like its going to give him some sort of tactical advantage later.

Have CA hinted/implied that there will absolutely be no playable factions that aren't playable on tabletop?

Stuff like Kislev and minor human factions to the south, to make up for GW's abysmal choices of which factions fo flesh out. I just want my fantasy Latin tercios, dammit, how can you make a fucking fantasy setting based on the 15-1600s and not include badass fantasy Spain as a major faction. The original tercios are better than your faggy landsknechts.

You could also throw in types of soldiers that persisted in Spain long after everyone else, like javelins and slingers. And Estalia does overseas adventures in WH, so you could throw in auxiliaries like Amazons or even shit from out of Ind.

But no, let's make boring medieval France, and then Chaos faction no. 12392141

If they want to put out the same levels of DLC for Warhammer as they did with Rome II/Attila then they're going to have to make some minor non-tabletop factions playable. This is total speculation, of course, but it seems logical.

The only tabletop faction apart from Wood Elves they could have without extending the map would be Skaven, and IIRC they have been all but confirmed as being held back for the first expansion.

>>
>>135640702

OK, I have to admit the Empire is legitimately cool, and I give GW a lot of credit for basing a fantasy series at least partially on the Early Modern period instead of generic medieval shit... but they missed out on the opportunity to make full use of that basis.

I also like almost all of the fantastic races, but they fucked up with the humans. Bretonnia is just generic medieval memes, and then you don't get anyone else really fleshed out to nearly the same level.
>>
>>135640535
With 4 Races a game on release, by the end of the trilogy you only need to add four more as DLC to have the big 16 added. They have plenty of opportunity to create DLC between the main races. While most of that effort will go to additional LL or unit DLC, I'm sure they'll make time for a minor states faction pack.

That pic triggers me, fucking Brits can't make interesting Latin factions. Just the same old stupid fucking memes.

Goddammit, I want lore of Estalia stuck in endless wars with Araby and Skaven, and developing a mixture of lighter mobile warfare alongside elite pike and shot tactics. They could be differentiated from the empire by relying more on cav and less on arti and elite ranged units - more early pike and shot era stuff, even bordering on medieval warfare.

Well, I'm certain we'll see Bretonnia and Wood Elves in game 1. Bretonnia as FLC, Wood Elves as the DLC, both a month or so after release.

So, Game 1 base + DLC:
1. Empire
2. Dwarves
3. Greenskins
4. Vampires
5. Chaos
6. Bretonnia
7. Wood Elves

Old World expansion base + likely DLC:
8. Tombkeks
9. Chaos Dwarves
10. Ogre Kingdoms
11. Skaven

New World expansion base + likely DLC:
12. High Elves
13. Dark Elves
14. Lizardmen

That leaves Beastmen and Daemons uncovered, but I just didn't assign them because I don't know if those are more likely as DLC for vanilla or Old World Expansion.

If OWE has 4 base factions, that's pretty good... but with the right features, I think they could get away with 3. I'm pretty sure it'll come by default with the vanilla map for conquest, and you'll just be blocked from playing vanilla factions if you don't own vanilla. That's enough for a standalone, IMO.

New World Expansion is a different story, unless they really flesh the fuck out of those factions, it's gonna be hard to cut it with three. Maybe Daemons would be thrown in here?

So, there's definitely room for more DLC factions, assuming they want as many DLC for each expansion cycle as they had for the base game. But I'm not sure that will be a thing, necessarily - they may parcel out DLC factions independently of the expansions proper, all throughout the game's lifetime. So we could see some Old World DLC factions being released well into the New World phase, keeping a steady pace so we end up with 16 total.

FLC is where it gets interesting - if they always release major DLC alongside FLC, then they'll burn through the 16 factions really fast. I think we'll see Kislev as FLC at some point, but I honestly think they'll just unlock copy-paste factions like that one Old World Lizardmen city before they flesh out factions that GW never touched at all.
>>
>>135643084
Maybe there are two sides to every quest battle depending on your faction?
>>
>>135643702
I'm pretty sure Skavens will be for base game, but clan pestilens will be a faction for the first exp, like for the base game, you have Empire vs VC, and greenskins vs dwarfs, it would be lizardmen vs pestilens and HE vs DE

Elves will be second expansion.

It just makes sense for the first expansion to flesh out the map that we start with, and the Elves and Lizardmen are more flashy and pleb-appeal-y than any of the Old World factions left - which means it makes more sense to release them towards the end of the development cycle, to renew interest in the game series.

I'm also secretly hoping that it'll come with playable naval battles, and that will be the big excuse as to why it only launches with 3 factions - buying it unlocks playable naval battles for everyone.

The truth is they are actually told to not stop until the instructor pulls you off, it's to get you used to letting go and being brutal
>>
>>135645919

No, you misunderstand me. It is fully appropriate to draw maps and predict when specific factions will be released - one simply needs to have a good basis when exploring these darker reaches.

To put it another way, speculation into the darker reaches is only valid and fruitful when one has a good foundation in the setting and logical game design. Without the fundaments, higher speculation is fruitless, nay, it is indeed actually harmful, for it ruins the reputations of more skilled speculists.

Yeah, it's a block of 4000+ soldiers, all with an arm's length of space between them, with more spaces between the units themselves. Then you'd have multiples of these on the battleline.

Imagine how hard it must have been to control battles back then. If you time travelled, all you'd need to invent is the hot air balloon and the two-way radio and you'd conquer the world.

Oh GOD FUCKING DAMMIT

I forgot to backup my main Tanukhids save when I started my Slavs run. I had relied on quicksaves for so long that it didn't even occur to me.

And now I've lost 20-30 fucking turns. FFS, I haven't even annexed Himyar in this one, let alone any satraps.

Well, so much for this save, this is the kind of bullshit that makes me put a save aside for 6 months, but WH will be long out by then.

You know what... fuck it, I'll just autoresolve the fuck out of this. If I bunch up two stacks on each city, I can usually ensure a win even with the ridiculous FotE garrisons.

Radios are simple as fuck, I built one when I was ten. You could easily do it with iron age-level metallurgy, at least enough to get a wireless morse-code based system going.

Compared to the advanced chemistry and high-grade metallurgy, not to mention manufacturing accuracy you'd need to make automatic weaponry.

You'd have a small window between your arrival and the exhaustion of your ammunition and fuel within which to take over a power. After that, how sustainable your expedition will be depends largely on your ability to keep your OP technology working (i.e. the extent to which you can acquire fuel, ammunition and spare parts for maintenance from the power you've taken over). An army marches on its stomach, after all.

>>
>>135659653
How much ammo do you have? You can't just kill a few senators out of nowhere and expect everyone to hail you. Imagine you have a hundred mags, that's 3000 shots. Say you killed 3000 people, i.e. you killed a person with every shot you had. Now what? Soldiers today can beat the shit out of people today in a fight, but I doubt they would fare quite as well against people trained in hand-to-hand combat.
Plus it's not like today's armor offers much protection against ancient weapons, nobody carries slings or lances anymore so armor isn't designed for them.
Remember a manipular legion is supposed to be 6000 men. You didn't even take out a Legion, and that's assuming you're fighting only an army and not all of Rome since you walked into the senate and killed some people.
>>
>>135661817
Actually shocked to see that much money come up in this case. Probably anyone else might get $5,000 tops and its hard to see how it could impact so negatively on his assets and future earnings.
>>
>>135655954
It would send the message that you were probably some spy using newfangled technology to attack them and they'd probably kill you while you're off guard. Or reloading, slings and bows have surprising range and javelins are deadlier than bullets.
>>
>>135662175

Might well be because of the fact Kotaku is a major website, you'd be right if it was some no name. Plus, racism aside, Hulk Hogan is something of an American icon so it impacts more than just him. That's what I imagine the thinking is anyway.

I honestly think it's partially spiteful retribution for showing enormous contempt for the judge and court, the punitive damages are going to be the icing on the cake. Kotaku is literally dead unless someone buys it out, and it will not be missed.
>>
>>135662175

It's usually moral damages+physical+how much you could have gotten

Basically they evaluate that hulk hogan lost a lot of money because his public figure was tarnished by it so the judge gives an estimate based on his opinion and past records

No doubt you're right but it seems far too punitive especially seeing as Hogan has millions in assets and a lot of his earnings wouldn't be affected. >>135664206

Which is exactly why they're going last. The elves and lizards, at least.

The New World and Ulthuan will be the last expansion, to renew interest in the game after it's been out for a few years. The less interesting (to plebs) expansion will be first - expanding the Old World east and west, and including Tomb Kings, Chaos Dwarfs, and Ogres. Probably Skaven too.
>>
>>135673465
Well they said that all 8th edition armies were getting in, so Ogre's are all but confirmed, in all honesty. I added Chaos dwarves because, well, they're in between the old world proper and the ogres, and they're a sort of niche, but well liked faction, as far as I've seen.

Your logic is flawed. You don't generate interest like that in marketing, you don't let things die down and appeal to minority interests in the middle and try and rekindle majority interest later one. You keep going from strength to strength and then push the shitty bits through by riding on the coat-tails of the good stuff.

Retention is much easier than reclamation. Besides we've already seen WIP High Elf assets.

If I go to Rome II after 600 hours in Attila, how will I feel? Is it worth cutting through the bullshit if I want to play in the time period? Will it feel fresh, if even for one campaign?

And is it worth playing a vanilla run before I get DeI?

>You keep going from strength to strength and then push the shitty bits through by riding on the coat-tails of the good stuff.

The problem is that there has to be one shitty expansion (by pleb standards). It has to come no matter what, and it's going to be as far from the last big module as the good expansion will. Assuming release isn't a shitshow and people actually really like the game, that provides the chance to release the shitty elements.

From a design standpoint as well, it makes more sense to flesh out the Old World first... but then, for plebs who want elves over chaos dwarfs, I suppose they may get tired of the Old World, so diverting to plebland across the seas for a module in the middle may be a better choice for CA.
>>
Is Attila really that good? What does it improve upon from Rome 2, exactly?

And is it worth getting even though that specific timeperiod isn't -that- interesting to me? Rome was kinda boring as shit with ERE and WRE. I prefer the glory days of Augustus and Julius.

Shit I accidentally posted this in /wtc/

>>
>>135674830
Yes it does have to come, but to have it as the second expansion pisses everyone off and massively fucks up marketing for the last one. Remember how Attila sold like shit because of the backlash from R2? Yeah we're looking at a lesser version of that if the next lot of fan favourites are saved for last.

I don't know why you think it's only plebs who want elves and lizards, tomb kings and ogres are extremely niche armies even amongst the grognard population and chaos dwarves don't even have an army book. And I say all this as someone who played ogres in tabletop, those races don't have the appeal required to follow up on the heavy hitters being used in the first game without causing a backlash.

And again we've already seen work in progress high elf stuff and with wood elves an almost certain DLC for the first game making elf skeletons ripe for reuse in two other factions, CA would have to be an order of magnitude stupider than they are to save them for later.

Because I really fucking want Chaos dwarfs, and I hate the idea of expanding to the new New World before finishing off the old. Following the standard definition of pleb (someone who disagrees with oneself), the word applies to people who want elves first.

Well fuck, I guess we will see elves first. At least there's a good chance of us getting skaven alongside them, I was thinking that they would definitely be released in the Old World expansion until I remembered that the lizards need someone to fight against.

>having problems with Asturias

Make friends with the Umayyads, and make a beeline for the rest of the emirates. You want to conquer as much from them as possible, before the Umayyads do.

I find that this actually makes the Umayyads like you, because you end up fighting the same enemies. It lets you pick the hour of their doom, because they won't declare war on you.

Save the razing function for England.
>>
>>135676804
No you fucking retard. Push quick through Britain and pacify it, do the same for Africa. You will then have a far more narrow front you have to fight on. You need all those resources when Attila rolls into the alps with his bros.

>abandoning everything

Un-Roman and pleb-tier.

I did a This is Total War run, and I still left everything outside Italia standing.

Don't forget that hordes which conquer a province settle down, which could be a good thing depending on whether or not barbar NATO has formed. If it has, they'll pump out more stacks than they could as a horde, and flood you. If it hasn't, one of your enemies has now settled himself outside of your vital area of interest and will not be trying to run into deep Hispania or Italia.
>>
>>135676076
Something I really hated going back to Rome 2 was the lack of a building browser and the stupid unbalanced provinces. Having a province with only two settlements is completely retarded and then you have the OP 4 settlement provinces, the whole system is just terrible. Then there's the whole anemic political system that makes me want to gouge my eyes out.

>>
>>135677354
oh wow I had no idea I always thought they were a full fledged faction judging by the amount of information there was on them
>>
>>135677354

Everyone talking about the Big Factions to Be Included always includes Chaos Dwarfs.

When they DO hit the Old World, they're going to have a dearth of big playable factions left. We're getting 7 at least before the first expansion hits, and if the New World comes first, that's another 4. That leaves 5 factions left if we include Chaos Dwarfs, so either we're going to see hardly any DLC factions throughout the game's lifetime, or the last expansion proper is going to be completely gimped in terms of unique factions on launch.

So, I think they're going to be delving into some of the smaller factions. There's definitely enough material on Chaos Dwarfs to make a full roster with a little bending, certainly more than for shit like Kislev, and they'll be one of the flashier and cooler armies to be included in the OW Expansion if Skaven are thrown in with the elves and lizards.

Less likely but also really cool would be a Dogs of War faction, with special rules whereby you play as a mercenary army fighting for other factions, and upgrading your home base/baggage train.

That is because they are hipster enough that people are going to pull for them, but they never had a very coherent rule book. They were handed out to you in the form of articles from White Dwarf. Hell, Kislev was on the same level as them, but you aren't shilling for them either. The most confirmation we have had on a complete factionlist from CA was that all the armies legal in 8e would get in.

Who the fuck is Everyone? I have only seen a few posters here and there talk about the chaos dwarves, and it usually devolves into this arguement. You are also expecting way too much dlc out of the first game and expecting the expansions to be as full fledged as the core game. We probably aren't going to see a lot of dlc factions since that is what the expansions are really about, expanding the world map and adding more factions. The two expansions introudcing 4 factions each through the expansion or dlc for the faction seems reasonable.

Well, I'd like Kislev too, and honestly I think we're likely to see them as well. But Chaos Dwarfs weren't totally forgotten about - they did get that Forge World thing later on, while Kislev didn't. If any minor faction is getting in, it's them.

And "Everyone" is every time a list of likely factions is posted. Usually once a day, at least.

>You are also expecting way too much dlc out of the first game and expecting the expansions to be as full fledged as the core game.

5 factions on release, and we're very likely to see Bretonnians and Wood Elves in it at some point, or at least that seems to be the conventional wisdom.

That gives us 7, which is almost half of the total possible if we consider there to be 16 major factions (which includes Chaos Dwarfs). Even if we just saw 5 factions of base + DLC for each expansion, that would still put us at 17, which would require Chaos Dwarfs AND Kislev.

And why wouldn't they want to release more faction DLC? You think they're just going to keep shitting out new lords, and not do any more monetization between expansions?

They get money for every one they make, and given that thousands of people paid for different flavors of snownigger 4 fucking times over the lifetime of Attila, including one that was a full year after the initial release.

I definitely think there'll see enough interest in minor-yet-different Warhammer factions to make minor faction packs financially viable.

yes of course.

especially if they had one or two unique units or minor buffs. or if they made certain legendary lords playable

For example
Ungrim starting at his actual hold
Nuln pikemen for starting in nuln
A bonus to Pegasus knight units as parravon

Even if each race had the same legendary lords but your starting location and a minor bonus changed based on location. I'd be fine with that.

I just hope its something that if warhammer total war does really well with that they'll think about in the future. perhaps instead of making sub campaigns like the last roman or AoC for attila they just focus on adding more customizable content to the core game.

a bit of both. you can use Ai Attack and AI defend to have the ai take over a group. it might not do what you want but it might help prevent your units from just getting rolled over. I do prefer to keep my forces consolidated until most of my forces get engaged. in which case i try to focus on key points.

You can always pause or slow down time if you're a scrub too.

I'm always kind of disappointed though since i rarely actually watch the combat take place or notice the small little things that happen in the battle map. I feel like i'm missing things but Winning the battle is too important to me.

>>135697528
Atillas settlement management is pretty boring. You pretty much have to maintain a balance between 4 aspects while also worrying about food (and the fertility) or else you get problems. Also Migrations which you have 0 control over which just fucks with public order.

It just shoved in a bunch of tedious shit you have to deal with in order to get anything to run smoothly.

Plus horse archers are ridiculous, their skirmish range is larger than most other units range. So you get things like light or javelins/slinger troops/heavy cav unable to deal with them as the horse archers just run away plinking at you.

Other wise it's a pretty good game, what ROME II should have been.

I was occupied with the lombards/pagans when he died I had no way of taking Paris.
Once I got done pacifying these 2 I was lifting all my treaties with Carloman and stationing my troops in a way where 2 armies Take the Northern half with shit-troops and the southern army groups decimate his armies.

BUT then Mercia declared war on me out of the blue, I smoked them out within ~ 15 turns AND JUST AS I GOT DONE, I received the Pope event for the HRE title.
Charlemagne was sittingi n the most Northern point in scotland with the Pope as a companion telling him to go to Italy and I have to run him to roma now, Im never going to unite the Franks at that rate.

desu senpai it is fucking shit, the settlement system in general is horrible

People are gonna hate me for this, but I want campaign management to be more like a Paradox game. Not totally like it, but mixing good elements of it with systems suited to a turn-based and more abstracted game.

There should be different fundamental values to each region, changeable only within a range of something like +-50% - Tuesis should not be able to be as rich as Rome. There shouldn't be this arbitrary system of one big and two small cities per province, instead the types and amounts of buildings you can build in each settlement should be based on region wealth and type - which you should be able to change (for a price), between shit like agricultural or metropolis or military march.

Building choice shouldn't be about making a spreadsheet to maximize gains within squalor and PO limits, it should be about planning on an empire-wide level. Do I want to focus on building up a lot of fuckhuge metropolises, but be heavily reliant on one part of the empire that's a major agricultural powerhouse? Do I focus on building chains that give me lots of moderately good infantry, some good cavalry, or a small amount of really heavy infantry (oh yeah, the troop pool system should return)?

tl;dr make each region more different, and give us a campaign that's about managing empire-wide issues instead of babysitting each province for money, and putting one cookie-cutter military recruitment region close-ish to each border

I'm sorry, but has TWWH already been released? Oh, that's right. The game isn't even out yet. In fact, it's 2 more months away. Can you judge a game without playing it? Is that what you're saying? Because if you're saying that I can assure you that you're wrong. Why would you bring up this topic when the game isn't even out? CA listens to their players now and they have been the top of the polls for how many months now? All the fucking shills campaigning against the game of the worst sort. A bunch of paradox freaks. But you know what? Their games still fucking suck. CA makes some of the finest, the best fucking strategy/simulator. Maybe you should shut the fuck up before you bring up retarded topics like this. You know why? Because you're going to be embarrassed when TWWH is good and everyone agrees bumps this thread. Are you a fucking drunk? Are you retarded? Are you autistic? You are a fucking idiot and you should never make a post on this thread again and I'm fucking serious. I almost have a feeling you're the only guy making all these anti TWWH topics because you're a faggot hater who doesn't like the CA because they're good. Fuck you, be good at something in YOUR life and then maybe try to troll these fucking people on the board, like I give a fuck. It's so easy to spot out your posts now, you're a retard. Always doing stupid shit like this. Why don't you try to be a good poster? Just for once? For once in your fucking life try not to make a topic like this. >>135701995

As ambusher or ambushee?

Honestly I don't normally have too much problem being ambushed. They're pretty easy for both parties I've found.
>>
>>135702103
Nah ambushes are pretty bad if you're being ambushed assuming the enemy is a human. The AI is too retarded to use an ambush correctly, the only time I've ever been ambushed is by a bunch of roman infantry up against a full stack of viking raiders.
>>
>>135702025
I once got my newly raised elite stack ambushed by 2 german stacks, it got really ugly, I won, but lost most of my army
>>
>>135702337
I meant as an ambusher.
>>
>>135702025
An ambush is always shit for you because in the best case scenario you manage to form 2 lines back to back that can defend your position.
Your opponent will have a much easier time flanking whereas its almosti mpossible for you, the only saving grace is unit quality and you generally will have higher casulties.
If you actually lose you will have extremely high losses because there is no way out for your units, look at Teutoburg forest, barely anybody escaped.
>>
>>135702547
So basically Quintus Battelfeldus Advisorus Maximus was bullshitting. Ok.
>>
>>135702349
Only if my army is split unevenly and the smaller half gets rushed. But like the other anon said, against ai, it's never a big problem.
>>
>>135702547
>>135702103
More importantly, your troops are in marching column meaning your archers are completely defenseless and your cav is nowhere near to help. Your entire army is flanked and overstretched from the get-go.
>>
>>135702718
Yea exactly, additionally the infantry is in the front in columns and the Archers are all in columns in the back with the cavalry on the sides.

You have no choice but to form a defensive position quickly with your infantry and try to save whats possible by placing it between them.

If im the Ambusher is just spread my forces 50:50 on each side and rush the opponent.
Just act like a savage nigger and rush everything in, then you give him the rest with your cavalry from the remaining open flanks.
>>
>>135702718
>tfw being ambushed as an entire army of horse fuckers.

>>135702941
Isn't that pretty bad too though? You can't really get away in time and horsefuckers get obliterated if you have enough spearmen
t. someone who ambushed a t. 3 hun stack with a full stack of cornuti seniores
>>
Is it possible for ambushes to backfire? I thought there were some hints here and there that if your ambush fails you get ambushed yourself, but I can't recall ever seeing confirmation or even firm clues towards that.

And certainly it's never happened to me before, I've literally never ambushed except in my Asturias campaign, and the +50% ambush chance and ambush-friendly nature of the AoC map meant I never failed at it.
>>
>>135702973

I'm not saying that removing it from the world was a bad thing. But for periods of its existence it very clearly ticked every last one of those criteria at once. Despite however clever Voltaire thinks he was, inserting his own opinions over those who inhabited the centuries before his lifetime.

>>135705414
Nah Charlemagne specifically began the Holy Roman Empire.
It was Pope(big boy of Rome) endorsed as the papal ripoff of the actual Roman Empire, the papacy specifically claimed it as THE successor, rather than the 'Byzantine' Empire.
In one of their most hilarious asspulls of all time(and the Papacy pulled more than any other organization in history), they stated that Saint Constantine's founding of Constantinople as the new capital of the empire and the following half a millennium of Imperial rule from Constantinople was actually Constantine abdicating and moving to his retirement home, apparently leaving the authority to name a future Roman Emperor at the pope's feet. Which they then only exercised after half a millennium, like they forgot or something.

>Did nobody call out the Papacy on their blatant bullshit?
Can be answered with the word "No".
The evidence is the historical period known as "The Dark Ages"

I wouldn't say that I'm aligned towards any camp of Christianity. But Martin Luther, whatever his faults; is probably the greatest gift Europe as a whole ever received. Not for the tenets of his version of the faith, he could have proposed universal worship of fish for all it mattered. What did matter was breaking the Papal monopoly on most of Europe.
As damaging as the thirty years war was, it was a blessed rain to wash away Papal pretense.

As a legitimate title, I think Charlemagne was crowned a Roman Emperor or something by the pope, but yeah the actual institution of the Holy Roman Empire became a thing later on, after Charles' descendants had done their squabbling, and one(in germany) was particularly powerful and/or papal favoured. Where I suppose sticking to the script, the Papacy claimed generational amnesia again and brought back what they did with Charlemagne but properly laid out, rather than a knee jerk reaction to 'aww shiet franks all up in here and fuck'.

>>135706307
It's a meme that they were as "Dark" as is often referred to, but it was a fairly consistent period which could easily appear "Dark" to the flashes of enlightenment following it. I use it mostly as a term to refer to the period on which Europe wore the Papal blinders proudly. Thematically correct as an observation from the modern age, given how corpulent and malevolent the nigh-illuminati arm of the Papacy by our standards; compared to periods before and after it.

Yeah I think the Carolingians and HRE are considered separate entities just because they controlled different territory and had different architectural influences with teh Carolingians having Roman floral designs and corinthian plans whilst the HRE had become gothic with a more germanic zoomorphic influence which eventually came to dominate the ecclesiastical style.

Does PoM even play much Attila because he seemed far too confident in his cavalry and just pulled them out of combats with spearman and wolf riders which is suicide in Attila and for VC who are instable it must be even worse.

Yesterday that Will Wheaton guy said Warhammer plays closest to Shogun which I guess makes sense because the units are rock paper scissors like Grave Guard who are anti-infantry the same as katana samurai or the Dire wolves who are anti-light/archers. PoM played quite a bit of Shogun so it seems odd he'd take so many unfavourable egagements. Its as simple as giving an attack order to each unit against an opposing unit that is weak to them.
>>
>>135708026
The Carolingians are kinda a speed bump and a French repellant in regards to the HRE.
Charlemange took up the title. His descendants fought over the title for awhile then, each having different power bases that developed separately; generally splitting into France and Germany/North Italy. I think theyeradicated the title with the death of the last possibly legitimate successor or something.
And then a German lad rises to power and says he'll be Charlemagne 2.0, the Pope consents and boom, 800+ years of HRE. Most of the Emperors being German rather than from Northern Italy, probably as a result of German hugboxes and the Pope not wanting his immediate neighbors have too much influence.
And eventually Northern Italy just kinda got bored of it and wandered out when it was waning for a time.

The Dark Ages is a meme because it acts as if the Roman Empire wasn't in dire straights from 250AD onwards. There wasn't a legitimate line after that point and basically any officer was having a go at becoming Emperor. In a sense Charlemagne was just the most succesful of all of them though the Roman Empire in the Imperial sense had completely collapsed by then so it was only a title. The Dark Ages might be an appropriate term for 250AD to 500AD but after this Europe had established kingdoms and churches that were prosperous and often innovative.
>>

Doesnt giving the attack order initiate the charge wich then goes on cooldown and the unit doesnt charge later when it actually attacks?
I've been playing since S2 and still not 100% sure how charge works.

No. It's always one or the other with you guys.

>>
>>135708913
I think 'charging' is a state of being which lasts something around 10 seconds once they've actually made contact which is when the Charge Bonus applies. Ofc elephants and cav are different because they deal damage just by moving through the enemy.

Good thing they didnt know the concept of genetics back in those days, because if you start digging into it now - you'll realise some of the well known figures had really low % of the original dynasty's blood in them, if any at all.
>>
>>135708892
The main difference is that the Western portion of the Empire, while basically worthless compared to the East; used for nothing but private militias in civil wars, was still technically part of the greater whole.
The dark ages isn't about the changes the migrants brought, it's also about the pre-existing state of west following finally slipping out beneath proper Roman jurisdiction.
>>

Yes anon because its an archaeological and historical debate over just how the Roman Empire ended which hasn't been proven by scholars who've spent their lives debating it and it sure as hell won't be cleared up in a casual discussion on /twg/.

>before the Renaissance freed us from the church

No one would suggest the Renaissance freed Europe from the church, that only happened during the early modern period and Enlightenment and even then thats only in Britain, Germany, the Netherlands etc. Rome very obviously did collapse in Britain because they abandoned it and Saxons just found empty vicus which they often ignored to make new settlements which is why we have Burghs and -bys everywhere.

>there were still some monks writing stuff

Christianity actually took off after Rome collapsed in Europe and there was an era of unprecendented church and monastery construction.

If you're talking a 'hard' science, I'm of the opinion that's limited to physics and mathematics.

Gothic architecture is basically germanic zoomorphic animal art (gargoyles/dragons/boars etc) mixing with Roman floral designs (which are rooted in hellenistic floralism and possibly some celtic influence) to create fluid natural designs. So yes old Roman material influenced the Anlgo-Saxons, Franks and Germans to create gothic styles.

>>135709519
It really isn't obvious why an Empire that survived greater catastrophe than any witnessed in the 5th century AD collapsed when only a century before it had been pretty strong and had laid new forts, roads and for a time had minted quite good coinage. Those 'intricate details' are the important factors that are glossed over in favour of classical views of barbarian invasions, plunder and extreme decadence and moral decline which are obviously biased and not at all representative.
>>
>>135709568
Forgot, I'm not implying the Pope lost all power. As he remained the head of the Church in more than half of Western Europe. But he never had power as acute as he once did.
Lutheranism succeeding finally, after previous protestant movements had failed brought the Pope to heel. He couldn't be full Inquisition anymore due to risk of driving people away as harshly as had lead to said Protestant movements to begin with. He relied far more on secular rulers acting as he directed. Rather than holding every man woman and child who declared to be faithful to the pope(every person in Europe) as a gun to the head of any ruler with thoughts of independence.

>>135709610
Refering to cousin marriages and shit. Yeah, you would obviously have smaller fractions than 100% if you started from a single half of a breeding pair. It was more of an explanation of hereditary legitimacy than genetic percentages.

It isn't though, because for the most part the only thing obvious about why it fell is that there were a LOT of details that added up to death.
Just think - the goths and the germans weren't anything new, there's no reason they should've gotten BTFO so hard just because of an invasion when Rome consistently pounded them over and over through its long lifespan. The answer to why it fell is literally in the culmination of the trivial details.

Even calling it the ERE and not just the Roman Empire past a point is wrong.
Calling them Byzantines however early isn't technically wrong as it's just a name. The only way to be legitimately wrong using the term is to imply that they were known by their neighbors as the Byzantines during their own time.

Again Rome faced more damaging civil wars in other periods and survived. The civil wars weren't usually that devastating, the worst beging the uprising of Constantine III in which only 3-4000 men died. The causes of the civil wars were probably bigger factors like the corrupt and out of touch governors or the abolition of the cohors in Diocletians reforms which reduced the Roman army drastically and resulted in underpaid and terribly equipped limitanei.

Attila works.

I recommend going through the workshop for mods though, just to tweak and intentionally unfair system. The game does a good job of presenting a world going to shit but some of it is just bullshit.

I recommend:

Improved Family Tree
No Great Power/Imperium Penalty
Sebidee's Lower Politics Cost
Fertility Increasing Sanitation Buildings

And I'm sure others can suggest more. I also use one that increases public order because I'm a casual and dislike testicular crushing. Those are just ones that alter the system though, no idea about ones that make it look pretty.

Franks.

Anything Paradox + Creative Assembly would be awful because the amount of DLC finance jewry would be at an unimaginable scale.

It'd also likely take a really long time and a lot of effort to develop a game that was actually good in what both series excel at, so it'd probably have every possible corner cut, and at the end of the day, you'd get a watered down game halfway between grand strat and total war. If I was NEET I'd want some sort of Emperor/Civilization/Victoria/Total War hybrid where a single game could take 100 hours start to finish

Emperor is a city-building game from Sierra, like Sim City but historical (China in this case), they also did Caesar and Pharoah

So you'd build villages, towns and cities like in Emperor, manage the faction as a whole like in Vicky/Civ, and fight like in TW

Alternatively, something with Heroes of Might and Magic 2/3 style campaign map mechanics and Total War battle map mechanics

Halflings being halflings, which is to say outgoing, cheerful and curious, by the time the purposeful little group of Black Caps had reached its destination it had acquired a comet tail of diminutive followers, chattering cheerfully and loudly about their probable destination and reason for being there, augmented by several enterprising street hawkers who had seen the need for snacks to go along with the evening’s entertainment.
“I heard it’s mutants in the sewers,” a young female said, tugging eagerly at Rudi’s trouser leg. “Is that right, mister, you’re hunting mutants?”
“Witches,” her companion asserted, nodding his head with the complete assurance of total ignorance, spraying crumbs from the pastry he’d just purchased as he spoke. “A whole coven of ’em. That’s what I heard.”
“Piffle, young Shem. Ain’t no witches in the Kleinmoot, not now, never have been.” An older halfling nodded sagely and drew on a pipe which directed a stream of choking smoke into Rudi’s face. “Mark my words, it be body snatchers they be after.”
“What about old mother Goosegreen?” Shem persisted. “She got cursed, didn’t she? Got turned into a lobster a fortnight ago last Festag. Who done that then if it weren’t witches?”
“I saw old mother Goosegreen yesterday,” his girlfriend said scornfully, “and she looked just the same as she always did.”
Shem nodded sagely and swallowed the rest of his pastry. “I never said she didn’t get better, though, did I?”

I've played the Thundering falls demo.

Dwarves have Yorkshire accents. It's cool.

Appropriate.

Doubly appropriate.

I saw the vampire reveal. They are just the undead which is pretty cool, but I thought there were vampires that just sort of secretly control human populations like jews in real life. Will there be any pseudo empire factions like that?

I should add that if you play as the British in that mod, all artillery is completely pointless. A single unit of infantry will get many, many more kills.

How the heck do I play Hordes properly, as Ostrogoths to be more exact.

I just run around raiding shit and whenever I want to buildup some stuff/reinforce I get 3 armies out of nowhere that gang up on me and kill me.

I only have my King left and im going to try to settle in Himyar.

For some reason 70% of the ERE got replaced by rebels, seperatists and the sassys.
