>out of tens of thousands of trying, that are successful on PC
>instead of the hundreds of thousands trying to make it on mobile

Why go for mobile? You can't get visibility unless you spend a lot of money on marketing, you can't sell a premium game and expect to have more than 5 downloads and if you go f2p ads won't make you any money. The only way to make it on mobile is to have top notch art, marketing and a fucking addictive jackass monetization scheme.

In comparison to PC where you can pay 100$ to get into greenlight, make a niche game for a niche audience, email games media and youtubers and sell tens of thousands of copies of a game thats priced at 5-10$.

ALRIGHT everything works now. Instead of the retarded system I had last night which used a usable gun prefab and a pickup gun prefab, pickups are now always the same weapon being exchanged and used. There's much less bloat and the whole architecture is just rendered stronger.

I also cleaned up the code in the same way since I was giving commands when using the aim button on both the player and the weapons. This is now all on the player's script.

Now it's time to make spooky skeletons that can dance and be killed and also drop weapons. I'll make visibly lose bones as they lose HP and then blow up when they die.

Depends on the way of fighting, but I'll assume it's just simple fisticuffs and violence:
Hooligan
Martial artist/fighting sport practitioner
Sociopath/mentally deranged
Drunkard
Police/SWAT/military

These are the only types I can think of that are willing to use violence in modern day society, without belonging to some idealistic group (cult or terrorist). Maybe too realistic for you, but I've been studying for a sociology test, so that's what you get.

I FINALLY SOLVED MY PROBLEM WITH THE LAYERS!

I needed to add registry keys that tell the Vulkan loader where to find them.

Also, I'm finding the workflow of writing code in Sublime, generating a solution via CMake, and building/debugging in VS to not be that bad.

Some engines/libraries use Z as up, try rotating around the Y
>>
Hello guys, i'm new to this whole game making stuff and i have some questions.
I'm using right now the Game Maker engine, i know how to code in C but i can't draw, i'm fucking bad at drawing. Is it ok to create generic sprites and when the game is completed pay an artist or some shit? It seems like a pretty obvious question, but how about the hitboxes on these new sprites? they'll stay the same?

Also, which resolution should i create my Rooms in game maker? i'm using the 1024x768. Is this the resolution my game will run?

Now the last question is:
how do i create a big room, like a world map, that the player should keep walking to discover it?

forgive my english and these shitty questions

You'll have to go back and bugfix things when you make the asset switch, don't worry about it, just get the foundation working. Tweaking sizes and everything will be trivial then.

The art style is charming and I was glad to see it represented in a different approach, but it did kind of take away from the experience because of how similar it is. Lets say the game releases and the DLC are water guy, flame guy, darkness guy and light guy.

Is there any reason for child colliders not to interact with everything? I've checked the physic layers menu and they should be colliding. The ground is a Mesh Collider but the child colliders are primitive ones so they should be colliding.

Yeah, it's shitty and amateur branding. The game associated has nothing to do with the quality of the branding, but it's the cherry on top.

This isn't hard to understand. Everything has exceptions, I think "Platinum" is something that is good enough on its own that having the extra "games" afterwards doesn't hurt it.

The example with Pixel has nothing to do with taking names literally, and I don't know where you got that from. Studio Pixel sounds better than Pixel Studios. That is my point.

Move it to one position, say out loud "DRAW!"
Move it to another position, say out loud "DRAW!"
When you're done with that you say out loud "DISPLAY!"
What will be shown on your screen is what was inside your finger frame at the times you said "DRAW!"

These are views. As I said earlier, you don't even need to understand viewports unless you specifically need them.

The standard term for "viewport" is just the relation of the game world size to screen size, for example you might say that your screen has coordinates -1,-1 (lower left) to 1,1 (upper right) and this maps to a pixel grid of 0,0 (upper left) to 1920,1080 (lower right). Now, this really has nothing to do with how your camera moves and is completely irrelevant (unless you're doing lowres pixel art stuff where you really do care about how pixels in your game become pixels in the screen.)

How a camera usually works is just scaling and moving the objects in the world in an opposite direction compared to the camera - moving the camera to the left by a unit is the same as keeping the camera still and moving each object to the right by a unit. Since your viewport is static (somewhere close to the origin), you'll want to move the objects instead.

Honestly, I keep telling them Unity is a shithole and most people talk bad about, most games released on it are laggy as fuck but they simply don't understand. Would it actually work to make the road and import it to Unity?

Lol, what did you expect?
If people can't make games on their own just imagine the same thing with 5 tech-illiterate shittards dragging behind.
>>
>>135658453
If you can't even judge unity as an engine you probably don't have the perspective necessary to complete a game in anything but unity.

And what information do you expect to get here that you can use? "unity is shit" or "unity is awesome" with maybe a few supporting memes? Do you think you can actually make a well reasoned decision on the appropriate engine based on replies you'd get here?

No matter how weird, do you even know how lucky you are? My dad thinks i am a faggot because i rather play games than go out at night, my mom always says that women like guys who rather play sport games where you have to move your body, and my brother constantly reminds me that playing videogames is something you should stop doing when you reach your 12th birthday.

I've been trying for an hour to make these motherfuckers fall on their knees when you shoot their legs. It should work just from blasting off the colliders (the player is moved contact with the limbs) but the whole skeleton will fall through the ground if I disable the main collider for the parent object of the skeleton. Why the child colliders will collide with the player and not the ground is beyond me. I guess I'll just have to make a couple of animations depending on what limbs are missing.

It's still pretty fun to blast their limbs off. I made them pretty weak.

interesting idea but right now here's how it works:

-Parent "Skeleton Object" with box collider at the base
-Armature with a big hierarchy of bones (functional animation bones)
-Inside of each animation-bone is the graphical bone object which has a kinematic rigidbody and box collider

The thing is if I remove the box collider of the parent, it's as if none of the child bones existed and it falls through the ground.
What's weird is that the player will collide with these child bones, but not the ground. From unity's collision matrix, a kinematic rigidbody will only register colllisions with regular rigidbodies, but making the ground a rigidbody makes everything fall through it for some reason.

I just don't get it.

Had planned this with my other parts for a while, but I finally went and put the description box in.
While doing so, two things came up.

The maxspeed increases with time so it will just be a matter of playing with the increments once I get to test it against someone or till I make a proper AI.

That's called "mixels" and it usually looks like ass. People do it when they want to look retro without actually following the restrictions properly. You should always keep your pixel art at the same ratio

I actually mean from a game to game basis, not different-size pixels in a single game

the amount of "zoom" is different for this game and, say, BoF3 sprites or cave story.

This is what frost does. The game is all calculated at 1:1, then drawn onto a surface, and the surface is scaled. The objects all move at subpixel amounts, but they're drawn pixel perfect.
Although gamemaker has some issues with sprites when you do that, so you have have to round your sprite positions to be pixel perfect.

My first impression: create a square border around all of the items so that they look more like things you can drag and drop.

The problem you have imo is that the art style of the foreground (the items) is the same as the art style as the background (the UI). So the items look like they -are- just another part of the background. They need to stand out so that I, as someone who just glanced at this for the first time, can reasonably figure out that these are things I can drag and drop or whatever.

I dunno if this is the best place to go for this quandry, but if anyone is well-versed in working with ARtoolkit and Unity, I could use some assistance.

I'm looking to make an AR app using ARtoolkit's Unity API, but it doesn't seem to want to see my USB webcam. I can confirm that the package works on my laptop with it's built-in webcam, but I'd like to get it working with my desktop.

The strange thing is that the webcam works with Skype, webchat and even ARToolkit's own debug executeables, but as soon as I get into Unity it doesn't see my webcam at all.

If anyone has worked with the ARToolkit Unity packages before, can you provide any insight?

The dark, grayed out color makes me (and I presume your future players) feel like you shouldn't pay any attention to it. So it makes more sense to have that be the background wall since the background wall texture isn't relevant to the gameplay anyway.

Plus, it's more colorful and colorful video games are more fun to play.

Fuck, I really really want to get to more characterization stuff, but I still have soooo much technical groundwork to cover.

At least the combat's now 75% done, I think.
Mario's moves can be made and added simply enough now.
Same for the partner's.
Item use is in completely, just that I only have healing items right now (fun thing I hadn't realized, unlike most RPGs, the consumables in PM are all usable in battle while others aren't in the overworld. usually there's exceptions on both ends).
What's really left is that god awful Tactics menu with it's crazy amount of bullshit to work through. And a game over state I suppose. Not counting UI shenanigans for now either, but those'll need doing too.

Haha, if only I knew what that even meant.
I'm pretty sure a lot of my code is all over the place. I've had to refactor a lot of stuff already as I've moved forward, and I'm certain some other big steps like Badges and whatnot will force me to do more of that.

But I don't think it should ever get to a point where I paint myself into a corner. I just have to be careful checking certain things as I add more on top.
I do have plans for the different parts.
For instance, Mario's available moves work the same way the inventory does right now: with a single object in the scene that has an array of all possible "items"/"moves" and a list of the current set. For the inventory, the list is made of just ids that are called when the item's used. For Mario's moves instead, they each have an "available" bool that says if they should be added at the start of combat. Hopefully I'll be able to have the badge system tell the scene which of those should be available in turn to give mario badge moves.

It's a really complex system. Doing the overworld menu's going to be hell, even though the overworld logic itself is mostly complete.

No, they're making shit all.

Check out their stats on steam spy ( http://steamspy.com/ )

If you want to see how much money they made you have to jump through a bunch of hoops.

I would:
Take the number of players total
Divide that number by 5 (free keys, steam spy inaccuracy, sales, etc)
Multiply by the full price of the game
Take out 30% for steam
Take out 30% of that for taxes
Take out 30% of that if they have a publisher

And you probably have as decent of a rough guess as you're going to get with incomplete info.

A lot of jokesters here multiply current price by owners(!) and assume the devs are rolling in fucking dosh.

Eh, it's just the first decent backless one that comes up if you google search "paper mario mario"
If you try "paper mario sprite" you get his spritesheet instead. I haven't touched spritesheet shenanigans yet, but those are also going to be annoying to work through.
Found a decent explanation of how to do sprite skeletons and shit, but I'll have to also make sure sorting layer issues don't crop up.

I think dividing by 5 is a bit much. In my experience dividing by 2-2.5 for smaller games (<20k-30k sales) works well.

comeon man, what can make it better. i'm lookin for that extra kick if you know what I mean. need some JUICE

If you really want in-depth movement you could incorporate a weight and have that modify his momentum.
>>
>>135678080
how do I do this?
>>
>>135676851

Well the one I was looking at did have a publisher. Aldorlea Games. Looks like all rpg maker games.
>>
>>135678173
Very tediously.
But really it's too much work between the actual game and your animations, don't bother, it looks good for now, work on gameplay mechanics and content
But a weapon weight to modify movement would be easier to implement.

I like the lean, makes it look more charming.

More dust puffs, not just when stopping (occasionally when walking, always when turning)

I know what you're going for(?) but I can't but help feel eyes would make the character feel more relateable.

How's your attack animation, if you have one. People tend to fuck that up!

Looking pretty solid though so I also don't really have much to say.

Testing a pool thing, but might scratch it for some simpler approach, also made the slow-mo slow time way less

Not him but it looks great. The only area I could see for any more juice would possibly be giving him some faster feet or arm movement in the beginning as if the friction on the floor was lower. Like a moment of buildup of speed for just a split second or second before you reach full running. It would
-accent the "cartoon" style
-add more contrast to the different states (stationary/running/stopping smoke)
-make the transition from stationary/running visually smoother
-make you not actually have to incorporate momentum, as you would be faking it visually

But the question is if its even worth the tradeoff of the time it would take for the tiny difference it would make.

Hmm. Neat.

What's your game?
>>
>>135678795
Come on Anon it's a real shit-tier (sales wise) game, don't rub it in.
>>
>>135678551
Dust poofs are as bad as obnoxious screenshake, and rarely do they ever fit the actual style of the game.
>>

>>135678926
I'm just curious
>>
>>135678956
It's all about scale, man.

If you over do it, it's annoying.
If you skip it completely, it feels lacking.

Same with screen shake. People here tend to be overly hard on screenshake, looking at zoomed in .gifs

It's easy to get tunnel visioned when it's the only thing you're looking at and it's exaggerated because of the zoom...

Thats still a respectable amount for what it is, graphically (as a measure of "mass appeal"). How long did you spend making it? If you added just a bit more detail I think you couldve almost doubled your sales.
>>
>>135679920
~4 months to make, but I've been adding/fixing shit every month since then

Got my review up from "somewhat negative" (or whatever's below "mixed"), too...

How do you go about marketing your game? You have some indie games sell just a few hundred copies, while some end up selling almost a million? Is it just luck?
>>
>>135660742
I use youtube videos

they literally walk you through everything and show you how to build a legit game

check out jimmyvegas, i used some of his at first

Why do you post this image every day? Do you get some smug sense of self-satisfaction out of it? Are you trying to force a meme here? Are you just shitposting/bored? I don't understand this.

Thats good man. US poverty level is somewhere around <11k yearly which ironically is above minimum wage full time income. Youve made a bit more than half of that, in less than a year.

Thats respectable, anon. You made basically a part time-near full time minumum wages income doing something you like to do.
