After learning a recipe from someone or making it yourself, it's recorded in a recipe book. But the item-synthesis guy asks which ingredients you want to use instead of which item you want to create, so you have to look up the recipe before talking to him unless you have it memorized.

I've been playing Story of Seasons (just started) and I haven't been doing much, just cleaning my field and not really talking to anyone (except the MILF you can actually romance. The blonde one. Still a little miff'd you can't romance the doctor with the purple bobcut, but I'll live).

Question is, besides giving the old lady part of your harvest when it pops up (a friend told me this), is there something else I should be doing besides tending my farm and crops? And, how fast is the romancing? I'm not asking because its too fast, but because I actually think it is too darn fast and I dunno if I'm rushing things. I'm giving her the bug she likes once a day (per the usual Harvest Moon rules), and, you know, I don't want her to suddenly be marriable in a single season. How fast is it? The romancing, I mean?

Lastly, is it worth being friends with random people as it is on Harvest Moon 64?

You should be gathering lumber and stone. You're going to need it to unlock the last two vendors.
It also doesn't hurt to start working on your crop levels.

It can be quite slow since you have to trigger events in order to marry them and the later flower events can't happen unless you start dating them. If your going for reverse confessions it'll also add plenty of time to it.

Luckily the events aren't random and happen at predetermined times and locations.

Witchie and Dessie will unlock clothing sets for you to buy if you become good friends with them.

Golden crops have a high wilt chance when it goes to a growth stage, so it's not entirely reliable to grow them in large amounts without a Ferris Wheel or Special Fertilizer. You also can't use regular fertilizer with the Special Fertilizer, and the Special Fertilizer itself is difficult and expensive to make, so these are worth considering.

Since you're on winter anyway, just grow a lot of radishes. They take 4 days to grow with the double water combo, so you can harvest around 7 times in a season. Use your greenhouse of you must.

Spamming Gold Juice: Buy as many ingredients as you can afford for them, make them into Gold Juice, sell said juice, and repeat. It's how I bought the cabin on Maya Road after an ingame week or two.

Giant Pink Melons is the second best easy money maker. As long as you keep the soil healthy (tilling dead grass or corn into it), you should be able to get multiple harvests from the same plant indefinitely.

The next best moneymaker is giant strawberries, which are available from early in the game. They work similar to pink melons.

I'd say you are moving pretty quickly, but there's nothing you can really miss. NPC dialogue expands as the Guardians are added to the village and certain plot flags are triggered but nothing gets removed or locked out. There's a brief exchange before the next dungeon if you marry someone before starting it, but most people don't see that. You've only got one bachelor left to unlock.

A lot of the sprites are something I could shit out in under 2 minutes, and most of the rest are renders of sub par 3d models.

I get that they aren't using actual 3d models because they want it to run on toaster tablets(or maybe they were just too lazy to to implement 3d/learn a 3d engine), but characters could at least have had more than three angles(especially considering it has analog controls) with animations at 5fps. Doom had more than that in 1993. It couldn't have possibly too hard to do either since they are just renders of the models from LV.

There is the occasional nice artwork in it, but even then there's no consistent style at all, and some shit really looks like programmer art.

tl;dr: It's because it is really amateurish.

Not that guy, but when making an entertainment product that you have no personal stock in or heart for, you'll find speed greed typically takes hold. Get it done, get it out there, hope that the massive uninformed casual audience allows you to at least break even.
