A Zelda-like is very content-heavy and involves a bunch of mechanic. I'd say try cloning the arcade classics first. Once you've made Pong, Asteroids and Tetris (and by "made" I mean gameplay, menu, saving, an ending, a game over screen, etc. plus some open source art/music), you can definitely move on to a Zelda-like.

If you're using unity, you can disable colliders, which might solve this problem.
But you might want to take a step back and try to work out a solution with one physics layer; 2 layers sounds like it could become a nightmare.

In graphics gale there is no "true" transparency. You have to pick a color for transparency and the default one is white. . Each layer is allowed to have a different transparent color, you can click in the ... to change it. Note that frames also have a transparency color and if I'm not mistaken it is the color that will actually be transparent in the final image so if you want an image with a transparent background you will need to set the frame's transparent color.

I have this little problem where the unity colliders get stuck on top of each other. I have two layers, onAir and onGround that I switch, this avoid the problem of a collider getting stuck above the other.
But as you can see, when you jump on top of each other, when the falling collider switch layer, it enter the collision on top of the other collider, so they get stuck on top of each other.
Dunno how to solve it.

Well usually you wouldn't want to use the native Unity physics for a fighting game, but since that's what I do here's a couple things you need to remember when working with it :

- Keep your hitboxes in different layers to save you troubles later. You can also use tags for a cheap way. Ideally, you'd have 3 types of hitboxes : Bound (physics), Hurtbox and Attackboxes
- Colliders with get stuck like it does for you because they use the force-reaction logic. If you want them to slide, you will have to create a PhysicsMaterial with no frictions.
- Obviously don't rely on standard colliders for hurtbox and attackboxes, use triggers
- If you're going with the native animator, learn about events and how to use them

It's very suitable yes.
There's several dedicated engines for text-based games, but they're for people who want to avoid programming.
The main downside of Python for game development is poor performance, but that's very far from being an issue with text based games. The other downside is it's a slight hassle to package it up as a easily distributed executable, but you'll deal with that when the time comes and it'll be fine.

I got the game in a bundle but I still want a refund on the time I spend. The story was the only vaguely entertaining thing about the game and they just got rid of all the major 'characters' midway through to replace them with a bunch of pointless ones nobody cared about and a 'villain' that seemed thrown together at the last minute . Blender's .obj export is valid. I think you don't understand the format correctly. There'll be a section of the file that defines which normal goes with which vertex position. You use that to look them up. It'll typically not store a normal for each vertex because you might have split vertices and all that stuff.
It's been a while since I've used .obj so my details may be wrong, but Blender's export is certainly valid.

It's a different render method and F12 is the shortcut for "Quick Rendering". Literally. You can check it yourself.
I'm fairly certain Quick Rendering uses Blender Internal for it's render while Rendered Viewport Shading makes use of the OpenGL renderer.

You see, I tested the touch controls on an iPad 2 (or at least I think its that model), however when I've uploaded it to itc.io, I have realized that touch input does not work with iframes on Apple devices (before that I was testing at my own host without an iframe). Because it's fun. I started off just doing it with some free time a few days ago cause I wanted to see how hard it'd be to make my own Paper Mario sequel a la TTYD.
Not in the sense of story and art, which I knew are pretty hard, but in the sense of the general game layout.
I got a lot of progress early on, and currently I got most of the overworld logic done. When I realized how easy that was, I wanted to keep going and see how far I could take this.

Honestly, the only other Paper Mario fan game that's tried to actually follow the original designs is this thing called "Epic Paper Mario" that isn't out yet, and even then it's switched to being a 2D platformer with no 3D elements.
If I could take this project and keep it up for a few years, I could possibly make a lot of people happy with my own Paper Mario game.

Cause I (and a few others I've asked) don't really think a Paper Mario style game would work without the large foundation of the Mario World.
The disjointed races, the weird mechanics, etc. all make sense cause people know these things about Mario. It plays off all that.

Funnily enough my first game project was a Paper Mario fangame. Specifically, a sandbox centered about the battle system: you'd make a small team of characters (heroes or regular species as partners, e.g. Goombas), select whatever enemies you'd like, and get a battle going. Maybe even with the possibility to create specific challenges and fight sequences. It didn't go anywhere though (2complicated4me).

That's exactly what I mean with the variance between the Y values of the two windows. In the situations where you've got a NA base targeting a SA base that gap gets a little too significant and you'd have a scenario where the player is rotating the planet on that Y axis down to catch both windows fully into the view at the same time.

It's gonna be considered a "Masters of Science in Digital Media".
It's like a step above an art degree honestly, but it keeps my parents' desire for me to have a masters at bay, may or may not be useful in the future, and since I was part of an accelerated program, I'm getting it with 1 years work instead of 2.

Mine was originally going to be something about educational games, but that went out the window because no education professor at the college was interested.
Instead, I picked up a project the college itself was interested in. They got an inflatable dome and a projector with a fancy fisheye lens fairly recently, and they wanted to start making shit with it.
As such, my initial thesis goals were to make a Unity dome system and a game to test it.
I was having issues but getting close to making a live dome master render work, but just recently I was told to drop the only actual dev work from the project since they just went and bought the $500 plugin that already exists for making dome shit in Unity. As such, i'm now having to find a new angle for my thesis's actual work.

It's the wrong way around if you printed it out and stuck it at your feet. But thankfully it's a skydome, not a ground-dome.

I honestly don't know why it's like that. It's just a calibration image used for the domes. I honestly just took this calibraiton thing, made it a texture on a hemisphere, then tried to get my cameras and stuff set up so that when it was all said and done I wound up with an image that looked the same.
That way, I'd know that the image is working for putting it on the dome as it took this 3d environment based on a dome skybox and made it flat with relatively the same distortion/effect as the original image.

But ultimately, it ended up not mattering because they told me they just bought an already made plugin to do all this. At this point, the only thing I've made that is of any value is this fake dome thing I threw together in a few hours to be able to simulate the dome and see if there were issues with the dome masters that I was missing.
If I'm not being clear, pic related is looking at a curved dome surface.

I don't know Unity, but what you're seeing is called "specular". Flat things that aren't polished floors tend to look wrong with significant specular. Look for an option to turn it down in materials or something.

Programming noob question here:

I have two public classes with public variables in each. I want to call a method in class 2 from class 1. I do this by creating an instance of class2 inside of class1 with "c1REF = new class1();". Is this correct?

What problems could I have with this? Inside of class2 is a vector that contains a lot of historical data and I want only one instance of this. Unfortunately, a method inside of class2 uses it, so it has to be next to it inside of class2 or else it won't detect it even if everything is set to public.
