RETARDS GUIDE TO DOWNGRADING

1) Gather files

THERE ARE CURRENTLY TWO RELIABLE BUILDS

by TuxSH

I WOULD RECOMMEND TuxSH's build since its lead to less bricks compared to steve

Get one of those and the correct region and firmware update for your console that can be found here:

DO NOT FUCK THIS PART UP

get the 9.0 or 9.2 updates

2) when both are completed you should have a two zip files

3)extract the firmware update zip file and inside of it should be an updates folder. put that folder on the root of the sd card

4)extract the other zip file and there should be a folder called "sysUpdater"

5)take that folder and put it in the "3ds" folder of your SD card

6)run homebrew launcher preferably through ironhax or menuhax. If you don't have homebrew launcer set up yet go here: http://smealum.github.io/3ds/

7)find sysupdater in the menu

8) plug in your charger

9)click it and choose downgrade. if you get to this step and dont immediately see the option to downgrade hard reboot and try again

10)???

11) Profit

Give it a couple of minutes and boom you've successfully downgraded to a firmware possible of running custom firmware.

Very first you need to do is get menuhax ASAP because browserhax time is limited. Then grab ironhax if you want for extra safety.

RETARDS GUIDE: AUTOBOOTING RXTOOLS EDITION

prerequisites:
>have an emunand made with either gateways launcher or emunand9tool
>unlinked nands
>between 9.0.0-20 and 9.2.0-20 FW
1)download starter kit on smealums github

download this rxtools build

2) delete any old hax payloads on SD card from when you were on 9.3+

3)put starter kit and rxtools folder in the zip all on the root of your sd card

4)go to https://dukesrg.github.io/?rxTools/sys/code.bin in the browser so rxtools can install data for the first time.

5)once its done quit and this time run browserhax to install menuhax 2.1

6)once menuhax 2.1 is installed go to configurations and set it to autoboot. it will ask you to set a button to launch menuhax. tapping the touch screen is the autoboot option

7)turn off system and go download ctr boot manager from here

8)rename boot.3dsx on your sd card to boot_hb

9)take the boot.cfg and boot.3dsx from ctrbootmanager and put it on root

10)turn on system

Just downgraded my launch Japanese N3DS from 10.3 to 9.2, and everything went fine except the system settings menu says I'm on 9.1. I've heard this happened to someone else, and everything else is fine, so am I good to go?

So I tinyformated and restored my system I guess. I did not remove my SD card, because I backed up everything that was on my SD card (including the games?) to my computer.

I then put the Nintendo 3DS folder back into the SD card because it was fairly empty but my purchased games arent showing up.

Yes, they might fix some entrypoints (most likely browserhax, don't know if they can fix menuhax), but as long as the others work for downgrading it's okay.
The problem is soft-bricking. All the others that downgrade right now are able to update to 10.3 if they soft-brick (which many of them do while trying to downgrade), but once 10.4 is out, you cannot fix your soft-brick without updating to the newest version, 10.4.

If I go into my system settings and it says RX-3 9.2.0-20U, that means I'm in Emunand mode right?

GW cart has the microSD slot you can store games on as well as on the console, essentially doubling the space you would have say against a user with CFW.

Also, CFW cant read .3ds/.3dz files, GW can. Meaning those single player games with no online don't need .cia to be copied then installed reducing the space you would need.

I haven't used my 3DS for a while since I installed Ironhax, and later Smealum's update which allowed for taking screenshots and stuff.
Now I wanted to access Pokébank but it asks me for a system update. Is there any way to get around this without updating (other than using the homebrew Pokébank)?

Basically every single 3ds game cart has its own unique header. But if you're playing a game rip, you'll be using the same header that everyone else playing that rip is using. So all nintendo has to do is ban everyone using the same header.

You can get your own private header from any ol 3ds cart, and then you can put that header into your roms so they won't be able to distinguish you from a legitimate player, so long as you don't share the header.

Do you think someone will find a way to somehow "emulate" GBA games with the original 3DS hardware? Heard ambassador games only work on o3DS because it has the hardware for it and I happen to have those GBA games.

Just use a CFW with region free and use out of region .cias, or just install region free .cias.

Some games like Majora's Mask will just crash if you try run them on a JP console. You can use the NTR language plugin to resolve this (and also any other games that revert to JP even though they're EU/US, like Bravely Default).

Another option is to change the region of your emunand to US/EU, but that's honestly more hassle than it's worth.

I feel like a lot of the problems this general will face are caused by downloading the incorrect firmware.

When you go to download your required 9.2, verify that it is the correct one. If you have any doubt, open your 3DS and check your current firmware. If you have an old, NA XL using 9.9, you'll want to grab the 9.2.0-20U(full).zip. Not the one with n3ds at the end, because that firmware is for the NEW-3DS.

Just be smart and double(triple) check before you download. Don't make the mistake of possibly bricking your system, just because you were in a hurry and didn't read the file name.

A friend is trying to install rxTools on his downgraded 9.2.0-20E o3ds xl, and every time he gets to the initial rxtools setup it throws an error, but still shows rx mode next to firmware in the system settings. Everything went normal on my friend's O3DS, including installing menuhax and rxtools. When trying cakes, however, he gets a "failed to load keyX" and "make sure the keyX is located at /slot0x25keyX.bin", which is strange because he's on 9.2 now after downgrading. When supplied with that key, it fails to boot and the system restarts. Is the downgrade process still fucked up? The same setup works fine on my O3DS that was never past 9.2 and on my 9.0 N3DS (though that has different files).

Keep track of which is which by removing them and letting the 3ds re-generate the folders, then log them in a txt and put it in the folder or something. Also, this is where your saves/.cia channels will go

The most frustrating part is that none of the new shit actually matters all that much. Bushido is niche at best, aerial is a gimmick, Guild and Striker are the best in most matchups. And those new super moves aren't even worth using because they're fucking worse than just doing your usual attacks, the only ones that are any good are the absolute evasion that sharpens your weapon and, if your weapon has one, any hunter art that buffs your damage. Hell, most weapons that tend to use striker style still just end up using both versions of absolute evasion instead of anything unique to their weapon.
MHX is literally just regular MH with invincibility buttons.

But basically, yeah. MH has always been pretty static. They mix some things up, but they always stick to the same basic formula. This one is MH with inv buttons, the next will be MH with inv buttons and more monsters. The one after that will be MH with a new weapon class or two added.

Welcome to MH. All in all it's still a lot of fun, and it's about the most hours you an put into any individual title while having fun the entire time.
