A well played ember will NEVER die. Compare this to Puck who fits the same niche you pick it for. Puck will always be somewhat balanced just because yes, a well played Puck is unkillable but Puck really can't do any killing on his own without a team.

Ember is a better puck (he doesn't die) that does ridiculous bullshit late game and that sort of ridiculous bullshit (SoF rapier spam) is low skill. Carrying 2 rapiers and 1 shotting a support without any risk can happen in 6.86 because of various changes like Lotus Orb, Glimmer Cape and Linkens existing which allows for unpunishable SoF and remnant dives.

You learn the game much better by spamming 1 or 2 heroes.
That's because when you know the ins and outs of the specific hero and basically play the hero subconsciously, you can focus better on general game stuff like map awareness, timing, smokes, etc.

His biggest problem is ultimately his base speed, which sucks.
So you're forced to buy a mobility item on him, even with ult up you're still slower than most people, especially since carries usually build yasha in some form whether it be an early SnY or a Manta. Even supports will run circles around you since they fairly often get a Euls.
So your first item needs to be some kind of mobility item, Shadow Blade or Blink.
Which runs into the problem of DK not being able to farm fast, so you need a Maelstrom, but that comes out after your blink, so it takes a while, and you really need to turn that into a Mjollnir because DK just so desperately needs attack speed.
Armlet is actually good on him since it gives him 65 damage and burst health, and hardly hurts him when it's on because of his ridiculous base regen.
But he's still not viable because even if you load him up with lots of 2k items you need six of them to make him work and round out all his weaknesses.

He's a carry that can't farm, can't chase, can't escape aside from hoping he can tank long enough to slowly meander to safety, and can't do damage.
Therefore you have to play him as an offlane initiator and just forgo damage. The buff helped him a lot now, he can stay in lane and just can't be forced out meaning he should have great cs during the laning phase, and his winrate went up from 46% to 49% in 4k and 5k, but you're not gonna be seeing 50%+ winrate DK anytime soon. But yeah I think he fills his current role fine enough, people better than me are winning almost half the time with him so he's not useless.

His winrate in lower skill brackets is actually worse now, probably because of unskilled shitters thinking the extra health regen lets him 1v5 or something stupid.
