Just beat the final boss and I got the S rank watch.

Komane -- Cadable -- Baddinyan
Venoct -- Dragon Lord -- Betterfly

I think I'm going to replace Komane with Pinkipoo as soon as I get one. Komane just wastes too much time with his inspirit, but besides that he's pretty good.

Cadable obviously seems like he'd be outclassed by something else, but so far I'm not sure what to swap him out for. Even though I'm not sure how the speed stat works functionally (like I didn't even know there were "turns" in this game until the final boss explicitly stated so) his soultimate has been doing great for me. Any other decent charming Yokai with a good speed buffing soultimate?

Baddinyan stays.

I'm not sure what to think of my back row -- it's continually undergoing changes. Like I just stuck Dragon Lord in there but I don't think his strength boost is going to be of much use where he's located.

Also, when does shit get hard? The only thing that came close to killing me was the group of Kappas during the S rank test.

Books can be bought postgame and you can only use one serious life per yokai anyway so it's hard to run out so easily. Books that change the other attitude follow the same principle except you can switch personalities back and forth indefinitely, it all depends on what growths you want and what skills you want them to use.
