Except it isn't and you're entirely wrong. Standards and specials are scaled the same, except standards get a boost from aircraft levels instead of from SPW levels.
Some planes get special modifiers that put them higher or lower tier which affects both standards and specials. e.g F-20A (425) is counted as 475-500 and will do the same damage as F-14A (475) with SAAM. It does more damage than Mig21's(375) which is counted as 425-450 with HPAA.

There's no difference between 775-800 and 825-850 because 825-850 gets scaled down to 775-800 tier.
875 gets scaled down to 825-850 damage tier and will do more damage.

Well, whatever you do, don't bother going for the 800+ cost planes. Falken and Wyvern start off affordable but their prices go insane past 12. The rest just start off insane (4.6 million credits for level 1!) so you'll never be able to afford them.
Some of the parts near them are nice though. The destructive plans M part in front of the Night Rafen is particularly good, since it's basically missile damage M and missile reload M combined into one part for only 12 slots. And it stacks with the standard parts if you're using them too, so you can make a multirole with super spammy missiles that can one shot both Raptors and AD tanks. S'crazy.

There are some good parts around the Flanker and Terminator in the top branch, some good parts around the general area of the STD, a good compressor L in the Shinden branch, and then the rest of the important parts are at the very end of the tree and will take you months to reach and finish researching. If you don't already have them, then just focus on the first three branches I mentioned.

Otherwise it's just a matter of picking the planes you want, working towards them, and leveling them sufficiently. A properly leveled plane and good reload parts are your best friends.

On Pipeline for instance, there may be a lot of targets in the first phase, but they're all worth jack shit for points and the second half is full of high value air targets which actually favors fighters overall. Also there's B7R which is an air-only map.

The maps I'd say are overtly ground focused are Alps, Aerospace, Moscow, WBA, and Avalon, and most of those can have air-heavy second phases that fighters can easily MVP with if they get it

Anybody get a XFA-27 HH yet?
I've been lucky and got the red skin for the Falken, the Flash F22, Nagase and Gryphus emblems. And 1 mill crate and a 3 mill crate. All this grinding and leveling up my planes puts me at 5.05 million credits.
I really hope the XFA-27 is cheap to level up, I fell in love with its design but the normal version is too goy for me just like the Neucom and Strigon Cfa-44
