They are both on the same team according to the guy in the other thread though. Why not just swap it around, so the Stinger has the better range and the Javelin the worse one?

So why not make the game use the older A model?

The Javelin is very accurate and requires SEAD to deal with, either that or you send in your CAS to get blown to bits.

Here is a little experiment I wanna try.

Gonna play through one of the most basic missions in combat mission (pic related).

But wanna try to let you guys control the platoons. There are 6 "platoons" total.

1 infantry, 1 support and 1 tank and a second of each arrive as reinforcements 5 minutes down the line.

Will continue this post with another picture showing the available troops.

So pic related are the first 3 platoons, get a trip and pick a platoon, first come first serve, you can also pick one of the reinforcement platoons (4 for 2nd inf, 5 for 2nd support, 6 for 2nd tank).

Will be using a temp trip myself for this as well.

Battlefield overview. Anyone can play, no need to have played the game before, be somewhat clear in what your intentions are and I will do my best to get it done on the battlefield.

We will be playing WEGO, so not realtime. This means there are 45 "rounds/turns". I'll try to post flavour pics as the game goes along with a battlefield overview at the end of each round.

If you want a picture of particular area / squad etc. let me know and I will provide it.

Mortar fire support is called in by forward observers. So you can't just have me plonk down mortar fire willy nilly whereever you like. Your mortars also have to be near your HQ unit to receive the fire mission. SO having your mortar team in the back while your HQ is at the front will mean your mortars have no way of receiving fire missions (they have no radio themselves).

Other than that it is pretty straightforward.

You have an HQ, a HMG, a mortar team and an MG ammo bearer team. Once HMG runs out of ammo the ammo beares (provided they are near) will give their ammo)

You are the green guys (no 2) in this ->>>125829254 image.

Pic in this post are your units close up.
>>
>>125831898
1 is the HQ+Mortar team, 2 is the HMG+ammo bearer

1 is behind one of the shermans, while 2 takes cover in the house left of the sherman in the middle of town.

Gonna wait a bit to see if we can get a third player to take control of the inf platoon. Filled in both your orders, but you can still adjust anything you want while we wait.

If not otherwise specified I will be moving units in "quick" mode. If it is super obvious that a slow/sneak move was implied I will take the liberty and do so even without you telling me to (i.e. taking a leisurely stroll through known MG arc of fire won't happen)

I forgot to mention that on the very first turn you can call in a prep fire bombardment anywhere on the map. It is assumed the engagement was planned (we are attacking after all) so we get a "free" bombardment that doesn't require LOS.
>>
>>125833957
Around this area. I'm hoping I'll get some of their tanks.
>>
>>125833849
Depends on how fast you post orders, and how much "flavour" posting you want me to do.

If you don't want any flavour posting and just the end result of every turn, then a turn is as fast as my laptop can process it (couple of seconds). If you DO want the flavour posts I will have to sit through the 1 minute turn to actually see what happened and take the pictures.

If we go by the first method it is literally limited by your order speed. The latter method will take at least 45 minutes+time of your orders.

TL;DR
Couple of hours most likely.

Ok, cool, I'll be taking control of the tanks for now for the sake of time. If anyone shows up they can take over.

I have the support orders, I am using the tank orders from the dropout. All I need are the infantry orders. Don't know if you are familiar with the game, if not, and you aren't sure if something is possible in the game just ask away.
>>
>>125834837
Not familiar with the game. But I am familiar with WEGO.

If infantry can use vehicles for cover, then I'd like to keep the infantry behind the Shermans, until/unless heavy AT fire is received.

Otherwise lead the shermans.
I assume I have access to the scouts/recon. Going to need an ORBAT.
>>
Just a heads up, I'll have some errands to run in about an hour, feel free to let someone else take over in the meantime, and if there's still vacancies I'll be back to finish the game.

You have 3 squads of 12 men each at your disposal, their equipment is shown to the right. You can order a scout team to split of from any of these squads and move ahead, and well, scout.

Split squad 3 in half. Take the second half and divide it by three to form 3 scout teams: One of the teams has the sniper.

If we have room to make formation, then lay them out like this.

Otherwise, simply have them scout ahead on 3 axis: Farm, Road, and south Fields

Anything you need me to do in particular?

>>
>>125836409

>>
>>125836086
I should have mentioned that the way you can slit them is limited.

The UI in the pic I posted shows your squad split over 3 columns.
There are 4 options to split
Split teams -> columns each 1 team
Antitank -> 2 man antitank
Scout -> 2 man scout, not the sniper
Assault -> 4 man team, includes assault (tommy gun)

Tactical AI takes care of the formations during the turn, no need to micromanage that.

Our mortars seem to not have been properly equipped, no CBE/phosphorus available to us.

Inf has taken the lead, smoke covering their advance.

The HQ tank was taken out immediately at turn start. A well placed shot damaged the optics, crew panicked and let the AT gun finish them off without ever even spotting it. Going by possible lines of fire it looks like it is somewhere near the crossroads with a clear LOS down the road.

Reinforcements have arrived

Infantry are advancing in two seperate axis at the moment. One got bogged down attempting to push the first hedge and lost a tank, and the other axis I intend to push towards enemy AT positions where I can hopefully knock out their guns which will allow the Shermans to dominate the map. HMGs are intended to keep the enemy infantry/MGs suppressed.

Aight, bombardement ends at the start of the turn, will delay infantry by 20 seconds to ive shells time to land, then take the bocage in front of them.

On the farm's side I will have them take up position in the bocage as well and have some scouts snoop around the farm and down the middle I suppose?

Polish armoured doctrine was radically different to that practiced by other Warpac nations, emphasizing fire and manoeuvre by company, with the emphasis for tactical innovation being placed on the shoulders of company and platoon commanders (more like NATO than Warpac, in fact). Consequently the battalion normally operates as distinct Company manoeuvre elements, unlike their Warpac equivalents, which operate as a single, large ME. (Ie. Tank company attached to MRB)

So, uniquely they operate their tank units by-platoon as opposed to the by-company of other Warpac armies.

Below them is a regular old Mech Infantry Battalion. Attached to them are TOPAS mortar carriers. Mistakenly, there are 6 here, although the ORBAT I am using for this has them at 8.

And to the left is the finished Dutch Armour Bataljon. They operate large Squadrons of 16 tanks, subdivided into 4 platoons, themselves subdivided into 2 sections.

allas no, but we get another reinforcement @35 iirc, not a platoon or anywhere near that though this time, I believe just some ragtags and company HQ coming in late.

Right, so after executing all the orders from here, this is the current situation, I played 2 turns at once to spare myself the excessive amount of captchaing.

First part was smoking up exit of bocage to farm, South MG team laying into their defensive line to the north@the wall. 1 squad suppressed the germans@farm while the other 2 moved into the cover of the woods through the smoke.

The northern flank fared less well, the southmost of the squads lost 3 men exiting the bocage, further north managed to breakthrough but are also sustaining heavy fire. The shermans support ends here, as it can not move through the bocage, nor go onto the road covered by the AT. MG managed to salvage alot by opening up at very close range.

The fresher of the two mortars was used to surpress the stonewall german line.
>>
>>125852536
Priority one is locating and knocking out those AT guns. If our infantry get bogged down and unable to move, then we're fucked. If possible, we should find a gap somewhere and send the scouts through.

In hindsight, it was probably a mistake to label the first attack a failure and spread out.

M1A2 and M1A1HC should have the same armour values, and stepped up by 1 or 2 frontal AV as these tanks were largely immune to Soviet-then Russian weaponry. Also, given it's production date of 1986, the M1A2 really isn't a prototype and should be un-proto'd.

The hubris is hilarious. People don't talk about CoH2 much because the game is just shit and there really isn't anything worth talking about outside of occasionally laughing at it's terrible balance and jewish microtransactions.

You make it sound like you drove off some horde of foreign invaders. The truth is most strategy games, wargame or not, have a huge overlap of players. The genre just isn't very big and there isn't much in the way of active competition. Someone that plays something like CoH2 probably plays their share of Men of War or Red Dragon as well.

Honestly, any successful counterbattery requires your opponent to be retarded (leaving his arty sitting on one place). ATACMs just makes it easier because you remove the risk of RNG failing to kill the enemy if your opponent is retarded. There's no skill involved regardless of which piece you use, just a certain level of RNG on whether you hit.

Yes, most if not all of the IL-2 1946 videos that aren't shit* are about stuff that isn't from 1946, such as battle of Britain/north Africa. There was a run of the mill LPer that did a series on Il-2 Cliffs of Dover and he was actually not bad at all but sadly I forgot his name. The most prolific IL-2 LPer on youtube, tailsomething, is horrendous as a LPer and he sucks at the game too, and he isn't better at Silent Hunter either since he manages to miss even ships that are dead on the water.

*QMB tier missions/""aerobatics"" with arcade settings + shitty music, has some annoying faggot talking over it, utter shit framerate

Honestly though, just play the game instead of watching others doing it

That's exactly what I want - no commentary if not keeping it at the bare minimum, no music, if possible no timeskips either.

>just play the game instead of watching others doing it
I need to build my headtracker for that first. Facetracking fucks up way too often, and lpaying without headtracking after trying it seems wrong. On top of that there practically are no campaigns for 1946 planes.

Anyone know of any working cheats for singleplayer Wargame besides that cheathappens trainer you have to pay for?

I'm fucking casual shit at that game and just want to make huge battles with the AI without any thought to tactical depth and strategy etc, just chaotic warfare.

Pretty surprised theres not even a developers console for the game, its like the devs intended it to be multiplayer only but I obviously dont want that.

I don't understand, IL-2 1946 has campaigns by default and there are mods extending it back to WW1 and forward to Vietnam.

Most of the default campaigns are short and shitty, the dynamic campaigns aren't dynamic at all save for the Pacific ones, there are no decent 1946 era campaigns that I know of.

>>125899957
Guess I'll try that but last I heard of modding the game was that you had to use hex editing, unless there are some game files I can easily modify without it I dont think I can do that.

I would be satisfied with just a mod that removed unit prices or even just made the unit limit unlimited, so you and the AI can spawn new units until the game crashes. But there are no mods for this game with that already done, I checked moddb, and google etc.

Honestly it really depends on what theatre you are most interested in.

War in the East will have you rushing tanks over large open areas of land trying to cut off and encircle entire armies.

War in the West is a completely different ballgame, a lot more focus on air superiority (which you don't have :)) and trying to halt invasions while you juggle troops, not wanting to go over the top on how many troops you use in the west for fear of losing the eastern theatre because of it. Assuming you are playing axis in both cases btw.

War in the pacific, as you might have guessed, is a lot more naval/air. A lot more.

I would say War in the East gives you "the best" content overal (by an honestly tiny margin), but I am a sucker for the western theatre so WitW takes the cake for me personally.

Playing another mission of combat mission.

Playing an Axis defense Scenario near Falaise this time. We are defending the town of Le Pont du Donjon. A small town with a river flowing past it.

Defending the town is a worn down SS Kampfgruppe. An SS-Panzergrenadier platoon is expected as reinforcements "soon".

Our objective is to hold the town and allow our troops from the west to retreat to the east.

Our troops. Nothing is at full strength. Half squads or less is what we are fighting with.

Once again it would be cool to have /vg/'s take control of the operation giving the orders, while I fill them in and do the "micromanaging".

Since doing it minute by minute was taking too long last time lets a different approach.

2 players from here take control of one company each. You are acting as Company/Battalion HQ, you aren't micromanaging minute by minute. You give orders and they will be executed, the more precise you are in what you want to happen, the more likely things are going to go right.
The increment shall be ~5 minutes. So every 5 minutes I will post a complete battle overview and you can post new orders. Major "happenings" are exceptions, this shall be posted the moment they happen and you can react on them immediately.

Not only will the game go faster like this, but units at the bottom of the hierarchy might not do exactly what you wanted/expected them to do.

TL;DR
Looking for 2 people to take control of one company each.

>>
>>125960352

With the game mechanics, if you park an AA in a forest, the best recon helicopters in the game (longbows included) can't spot it until within SPAAG range, which is also Hellfire range.

So if you actually use your Longbow to scout, and run into AA range, it dies. It's mostly used as a super ATGM helicopter to kill tanks with and harass isolated units where you think there won't be any AA.

Eugen logic.
>>
>>125960862
My problem isn't with a Grison taking out a longbow, my problem would be with people using a longbow as some sort of CAS front "in your face" unit.

Grison outranges the Longbow IRL and the Grison's radar "shouldn't" have a problem detecting the Longbow either.

>>125960862
>It's mostly used as a super ATGM helicopter to kill tanks with and harass isolated units where you think there won't be any AA.
So basically what it is used for IRL? Assuming its recon abilities are good in the game as well, as this is sort of the defining characteristic of a longbow over the the other Apache models.

Also, the game is fine, just because one of the devs has a dumb opinion about Ukr. army doesn't mean shit (gonna need a source on that dumb opinion btw, "/vg/ said so" doesn't quite cut it).

The amount of games that attempt to portray conventional warfare realistically (to any degree) is miniscule. CM is one of the few that gets it right in a lot of areas and is probably one of the best. Flash point campaigns and CMANO are two other gems when it comes to simulated conventional warfare, but none of these games is comparable in scale (which is why I own all 3 :))

Still not seeing any source on that "dumb opinion", all I have is you saying that some other dude on /vg/ wrote it and you read that.

Releasing on steam serves no purpose btw, the vast majority of proper wargames aren't on steam, War in the East and CMANO are the big exceptions, neither of those games saw any significant increase of playerbase thanks to selling it on steam.

It is because it is such a niche genre, not despite it, that they choose not to sell on steam.

According to your logic matrix games is a dumb company and basically anything that isn't steam is dumb, becasue steam is a highly successful mainstream publishing platform.

Other than some impulse regretbuys and creation of a handful of new fans, I don't see how having CM on steam would change anything.

Playing IL 2 Sturmovik 1946

Should I start an USSR dynamic campaign in a LaGG-3 ?
>>
>>125982428
Same god-tier internal sensors as black mamba, with a different base that is far less aesthetic but slightly more functional when it comes to the number and positioning of buttons.

Like the black mamba however it has a dreadful stick on top of it, cheap plastic buttons and a mode switch quite likely to break over time.

It also comes with no throttle, so you'll have to buy one separately. For the same price as a VKB stick you could get a Warthog HOTAS which will offer similar performance if you put a stick extension on it.

At the end of the day, people buy VKB for the metal gimbal. Which is a nice thing to have, but the stick has a lot of downsides in other areas you have to be aware of.
>>
>>125983163
Did you mod the fuck out of it and do you want your campaigns to be actually dynamic?
>>
>>125983495
Actually dynamic
>>
>>125983469
What stick would you recommend me for IL-2 then? The King Cobra caught my attention mostly because of the amount of axes it has, it seems to be ideal for prop planes. Also, what can you tell me about this throttle? https://flightsimcontrols.com/store/available/gametrix-ecs-throttle/

Also what are some pedals that aren't plastic shit and aren't ball crushers?
>>
>>125983564

>>
>>125984126

>>
>>125984464
Dark Blue World, or whatever the new version of that is called, it has stupid amounts of content.
>>
>>125984009
>plastic shit and aren't ball crushers
Well the CH ones are great but they might be a bit close together if you have a colossal dick. Top end of the pedal market is the MFG Crosswinds, but they are enthusiast tier.

I've never heard of anyone with the Gametrix ECS throttle, looks just like an x52 throttle to me. Once again the CH throttle is a pretty good standalone throttle, but is not ideal if you want lots of rotaries.

As for stick, how much do you want to spend? The king cobra is good, but for that price I'd want a stick to be absolute perfection.
>>
>>125986248
Can you break shit down in different price ranges, for sticks, throttles, HOTAS and pedals? Come to think of it we really could use a chart.

>CH throttle
It'll be fine if it has at least 2 rotaries (one for prop pitch, one for mixture), though having more for trim and flaps wouldn't hurt.
>>
>>125987491
Do you really not want to get an x52 or something? It sounds like it would be fine for your purposes to be honest.
>>
>>125989208
No. I already had experiences with a Saitek stick and that was fucking awful, never again. Besides the sooner we make a planefag accessories chart the better it is.

Though the training missions should be enough to get you going. They are interactive and walk you through everything.
It's not a complicated aircraft. I recommend looking up some videos on youtube about ccip and ccrp bombing if the training mission doesn't clear that up.

I'm living off autism bux tier:
>Thrustmaster T-16000M
>Logitech 3d pro
>Any dirt cheap joystick
+
homemade ir clip, webcam and opentrack

Mid range tier:
>CH fighter stick + CH pro throttle + Some pedals (avoid CH pedals it's spaced too close, uncomfortable unless you have a micro penis)
>FUCKING MADCATZ

Enthusiast tier:
>Thrustmaster warthog (cheap plastic gimball)
>VKB black mamba (cheap plastic stick, no throttle)
>VKB T-pedals (works best for desktop/computer chair gaming, no toe brakes)
>Slaw pedals
>MFB pedals

Pedals only really matter for ww2 planes and helicopters. Do not prioritize spending hundreds of bucks on pedals if you're going to fly a 4th gen plane like the F-16.
Track IR works but it's overpriced as fuck.
ED tracker doesn't support true 6dof, which means you can't lean around in your cockpit (important if your cockpit has shit visibility)

Thank you.

What an asshat that guy is. The very reason NATO has been conducting wargames from pretty much north Finland down to Albania is because Ukraine can NOT hold Russia back on its own, nor should NATO expect it to.

One thing I do agree on is that the Dnieper River is a tremendous obstacle. Russia would have to take control of the majority of the major bridging points and then ensure the failure of any effort by Ukraine/NATO to blow up bridges/pontoons with precision strikes. Russia also doesn't have the support in west Ukraine that it has in east Ukraine making it that much harder to take and hold any of the major bridges. Putin himself said it would take two weeks to reach the river, so that would mean 3 weeks in translated "non-putin" speak. However, Ukraine left to its own devices with no outside help will fall due to attrition alone, bridges or no. Good thing it isn't left to its own devices.

Next question, is that guy an actual dev? Just because he moderates the forum doesn't make him a dev.

I already have 8gb, which didn't seem like a particularly uncommon amount on the forums.
The problem is that it keeps hogging more and more ram as time passes, seemingly never letting go of any, until it starts screwing with the pagefile and making the system freeze for several seconds at a time.
>>
>>126005052
>is that guy an actual dev
Nevermind, on further reading I found out it is Steve, the founder.

All I can say is that I am glad his delusional ideas didn't leak into the game.

I just can't tell if he is talking about a total war, or a limited war in that thread.

Russia can not win a limited war in Ukraine anymore than the US can win a limited war in Afghanistan.

A total war however, with Russia pooling the vast majority of its assets into taking Ukraine by force with no consideration for public image, simply Ukrainian military duking it out with the Russian military in Ukraine, neither holding back. That scenario will never be in Ukraine's favour.

It sounds like he is referring to the latter scenario and then insisting that Ukraine would come out on top.

He did mention russia using a limited part of its forces as a basis for his analysis. He also said that russia could win in a total war but, as in every other country nowadays, the losses suffered in such a case would never be accepted by the nation.

Not saying he's not an asshole, but what he says makes sense. Defending home soil in modern warfare is an "I win" button because attackers can't commit like they should, forced as they are by modern notions of how war should be handled. Then you end up staying for 20 years in what should be a defeated country.

I NL Corps is fully mobilized after 48 hours, but was held in reserve while the Soviet armies over-extended themselves and suffered attrition. Now, they begin counter-attacking against 3rd Red Banner army and 2nd Guards Tank Army, both of which have suffered massive losses and attrition. This is NORTHAG's last gambit before they call it quits and nuclearize the battlefield.

It's up to 5. Armee to hold back this spearhead, and eventually the rest of the I NL Corps until 7th Tank Army, 28th Combined-Arms army, and 1st Polish Army arrive.

This is a smaller test scenario designed to test out the Dutch faction as well as provide a framework for what might become CEG 5. A Leopard 2NL A4 Squadron (17 tanks) pairs up with a company of YPR-765 PRI Mechanized infantry, a battalion's worth of 120mm Mortars (9), and the battalion's AT (12 YPR-765 PRAT w/ I-TOW).

Defending is Second battalion, or II. MSB/MSR-29. They are subordinate to 8. MSD and are a SPW-70 based unit, complemented by AT-5 carriers, T-55AM2D tanks, 122mm D-30 howitzers, and the divisional Pak division. Yes, those are Pak guns, 100mm MT-12s. Their tiny AP shells won't make a dent in the front of a 2A4, but they are equipped with Ground Search Radars and the AT-10 Stabber, otherwise known as the Bastion/Arkan.

Slightly-more-than-halftime report:

The Dutch are spent already. The layered East German defence took advantage of overlapping fields of fire and their good training, which allowed the MT-12s to do whatever damage they could, and also allowed their Mot. Schützen Kompanie(s) to utilize ambush tactics: ATGMs and T-55s didn't expose themselves until the Leopard's side armor was exposed.

Mi-8TB gunships are coming in now to probably finish off the Dutch.

With only 16% of the VPs and having lost most of their combat power, the Dutch offensive grinds to a halt here and the East Germans claim a tactical victory.

I'll have to re-balance this scenario. A NATO spearhead would probably have corps artillery assets in the form of MLRS and M110s, but I think M109A2s will be sufficient. Other mistakes on the part of the Dutch player included:

-Made a frontal assault instead of exploiting the side forests
-Faulty smoke usage that failed to sufficiently obscure the East German LoS
-Failed to concentrate forces and spread out
-I-TOWs were out of range and kept out of range to sufficiently support them

wew, I wonder how these concepts were amended when things like thermal imaging and MBTs with undedable frontal armor came about
>>
>>126041502

Very little

Thermal Imaging is admittely underwritten about (then again, so is every fucking tank on tank engagement between world war 2 and 73 easting) but the contraian nature around here as propts it up as a end-all to tank engagements

And there are few things on the Modern battlefield that were undeadble from a armor point of view, 125mm fire from massed tank formations from even non-Soviet Warsaw Pact armies can seriously fuck up most Western MBTs of the time, and just about anything on in the Warsaw Pact inventory can penetrate the side of an MBT
>>

Another convenient fact that a lot of people, especially HATO babies, like to forget...

Is that just because armor might stop 1 sabot, doesn't mean it'll stop multiple sabots. Armor doesn't just magically take no structural damage when a round fails to penetrate.

When will this miscarry finally be aborted?
>>
>>126044817
Unless you hit like within a few inches every shot western armor will hold up to multiple rounds. This is a major advantage they hold over all slavshit rust buckets who relies on ERA. Sympathetic detonation from ATGM strikes is likely to rid adjecent tiles, leaving the tank unprotected. Slavaboos of en tend to forget that fact when sucking each other off about Muh Kontakt-5.
>>
>>126058976
Or straight-up raking them with autocannon fire to blow off the ERA and kill any slavs running around it.
>>
>>126058976
>>126059058

>I don't know anything about ERA
>>
>>126059460
If you detonate ERA with a blasting cap, KE penetrator or other non explosive means, then some ERA have resistance against sympathetic detonation. If you touch off a 50 pound warhead from an ATGM, then you have problems. Don't blindly believe in the marketing departments who say that their ERA is immune to SD.
>>
>>126047304
So? The 2A28 was a threat to NATO MBT as well.

T90:
The side hull is 6cm thick rolled steel but the lower side hull around the wheels is probably only 2cm thick; side skirts add 25 mm thick reinforced rubber plate plus 60cm airgap increasing the HEAT armor by about 15-17cm against 2nd gen and 26-28cm against 1st gen warheads. This rubber skirting is unlikely to add more than 1cm to the KE side armor, due to deflection. The fuel tanks along the sponsons should add 65cm x 0.1 KE and 0.3 HEAT or an additional 6-7cm KE and ~ 20cm HEAT armor. Over the front half of the side hull Kontakt-5 is mounted which probably adds ~30cm HEAT and at least 5 cm KE resistance. Not to mention that large section of the side armor do not have ERA.

2A28 can penetrate 280-400mm depending on what type of HEAT ammo is being used, the modern PG-9 shells being on the higher end. The gun can penetrate the leopard-1 frontally.

I don't see a problem with a BMD taking out a T90 from the side. Certainly not an impossible fairytale anyway.
>>
>>126061679
People are surprised that most tanks have much weaker side armor than they'd anticipate

BMP-1s can easily achieve firepower kills on even the M1A1HA and crew kills on the Leo 2A4, the inherent inaccuracy of the Grom is it's primary drawback

>People are surprised that most tanks have much weaker side armor than they'd anticipate
People seem to forget that you can't have every inch of a tank be lamo900mm armor with ERA and still expect it to operate at anywhere near acceptable speeds.

Driving "shall not be infringed" bunker complexes don't exist, nor are they desirable.

In that guy's game the problem isn't that a BMP killed a T90 from the side, as that is entirely possible. No, the problem is that a BMP got into position to take that shot on the T90 in the first place, i.e. whoever was commanding the T90 is an idiot.

During the early 90s, Sweden held trials for the Stridsvagn 2000 project which eventually ended withe the STRV 122. Since the Soviet had just collapsed and the newly formed russian republic was fully in "sell everything you can load on a train" mode, they entered the T-80U which is fitted with Kontakt-5 as a contender for the contract. The results are still classified but Sweden started to use "state of the art" ERA in weapon testing shortly after. Those trial ERAs where pretty much domestic Kontakt-5 tiles, given that they had studied real deal in depth.
In all those weapon trials, sympathetic detonation occurred when the ERA was struck by HEAT warheads.

How?

Let's assume the F15C does the standard launch-and-run tactic

how would I ever get into wvr
>>
>>126066948
>chasing faggots

oy vey.

But see f-15 pilot a shit, what you do chase him a bit, and then turn off radar and switch to eos
>there's a retarded glitch here because ED i'll explain.
Then he in his infinite wisdom usually thinks you've stopped chasing, and he'll start turning around, at this point, you fill him full of hot sticky R-27s.
Now for the glitch, if you have radar on and turn on EOS then turn your radar off, the enemy will continue to get a radar lock even though your radar is off, so to avoid this, you need to unlock the target turn off radar turn on EOS and lock him with EOS.

Also you can sometimes get faggots flying really high when you are lower then them with ETs.
You lock them on radar and make sure you are lower than they can see you
>below their nose.
Now you just sit there an wait for the ET to lock, you launch and run away, usually they wont think you've done anything and are just running away
>the more f-15s against you the better it works
the the missile smashes them.

Straight up nose to nose fight, is something you should avoid, but if you're like me and want to shit on faggots, then if the pilot is good, you'll usually end up with a no kill and just a bunch of wasted missiles for both sides.

also remember flying high in the su-27 isn't something you should not do.
>>
>>126067345
>Now for the glitch, if you have radar on and turn on EOS then turn your radar off, the enemy will continue to get a radar lock even though your radar is off, so to avoid this, you need to unlock the target turn off radar turn on EOS and lock him with EOS.

They also don't get a lock warning if you turn on EOS first, lock in EOS, then turn on radar

allows you to IFF IR targets without them even knowing you're there
>>
>>126067468
>They also don't get a lock warning if you turn on EOS first, lock in EOS, then turn on radar
That's becuase the radar has a specific IFF interrogator, that doesn't turn the radar on, so they don't get a warning, however once you launch a radar guided missile the radar will turn on automatically and then they will get a radar warning, unless there's a glitch where they don't even then.

Il2 will for me always be the diamond covered in shit. Like every mm^2 is covered in shit. Once you can see through the shit, or better yet, clear of all the shit, then you have a great game. There is just, so much shit though, and then you start wondering if a diamond is really worth wading through so much of it.

Then again there is no alternative for WW2 flightsimming. DCS is boring imo, I just can't get involved in the setting (well there isn't really a setting), it is just to sandboxy. I am at least somewhat emotionally involved when I take down shitty russiaboos and salute.
>>
>>126082938
Granted, shit used to be WAY worse than that. Also let's not forget the modding mafia of the All Aircraft Arcade days. Also, CoD modding is much more straightforward than modding 1946.

>Then again there is no alternative for WW2 flightsimming
On the other hand there are like, what, 4 different modern WW1 sims? Rise of flight, Wings over Flanders, Canvas Knights, the WW1 parts of Dark Blue World/CUP for IL-2 1946? The only alternatives to IL-2 1946 seem to be CoD (only one scenario), BoS (it's shit), Warthunder (lolf2p cancer).

Also why is it taking so long for DCS to get WW2 stuff or some of its features in general anyway? When I read the changelogs I can't help but think "this shit should've been a thing since FC2/3".

Sherman was a shit tank, stop posting it. America could have been fielding paper tanks and still won the war becasue they would have had 10000 paper tanks to each German tank. The German tank would burn through all its ammo and then get papercutted to bits.

That was why the Sherman worked; "if we build enough of em, eventually Kraut will buckle".

It is also an aesthetically horrid tank.

The Dutch are having an easier time this time around.

(Thermally transparent) smoke masked the two platoons of I-TOW carriers, allowing them to completely destroy the T-55 company with impunity. However, they then quickly fell pray to enemy arty, as they happened to be sitting on the East German pre-planned fire marker.

A single M109A3 battery arrived and was immediately tasked with counter-battery of the East German 122mm howitzers, claiming some kills.

More smoke was fired onto the primary defensive treeline, to give the illusion that the initial attack would be head-on. It wasn't, and the East Germans concentrated defenses forward. A pincer attack was then made. In the North, the Leopard 2A4s did not fare too well as they were suddenly ambushed by Fagots, SPG-9s, and RPG-7s. Fortunately for the Dutch however, their infantry have managed to close in to forest positions where they'll be less exposed to enemy fire. A Second company of mechanized infantry arrived, and they are assaulting the enemy positions with heavy support from artillery, mortar, and overwatching fire. We'll see how the rest of this carries out...
>>
>>126106158
Why are those tanks spearheading into that dense forest in the northeast?
>>
>>126107024
Resistance was not expected up there. The plan was that the Leopard 2A4s would set up on that ridge line and provide overwatching fire to the Infantry assault.

However, the East German defense accounted for layered defense in depth, and flank protection.

Typical useless lazy burger. However, in the interest of proving you wrong, I've found the relevant section.

'If the green boresight center light goes off and the red lights begin to flicker on
and off indicating electro-optical countermeasures are present, the gunner does not
engage the target. The loader holds the self-test toggle switch in the test position as the
gunner acquires an alternate target'

Sorry my bad.

I'll give you the relevant part since you are far to stupid ti figure out where to look for jamming resistance.

>(e) Xenon Beacon. The xenon beacon emits an infrared beacon, which is picked up by the infrared receiver on the daysight tracker. The infrared receiver measures the angle at which the infrared beam strikes, thus providing the major source of data on the position of the missile to the MGS. The xenon beacon consists of a bulb filled with xenon gas and two electrodes. When an electric current passes between the two electrodes, it creates a spark, which excites the gas. This excited gas emits infrared light that exits from a window on the rear of the beacon as a narrow beam. All basic TOW infrared beacons operate on the same frequency (the infrared light turns on and off at the same rate of speed). This causes two problems: First, two systems cannot be placed closer than 300 meters because the beacons overlap and the MGS has no means of distinguishing between the missiles, causing it to lose control. Second, jamming the daysight tracker is fairly simple if the enemy knows the correct frequency. The TOW 2 overcomes these problems by having the MGS send a signal to the missile that controls the frequency at which the xenon beacon is operating. The MGS varies this pattern randomly, speeding it up and slowing it down in no apparent pattern. The MGS is always able to distinguish its missile from other missiles because no two missiles will be operating on the same frequency at the same time. For the same reason, the enemy cannot jam the system.

Both sides are spent now. The Dutch infantry assault managed to capture the first objective, but were denied the second.

The dutch suffered massive casualties - 60% (Wounded, damaged, surrendered, or missing) of which 30% were permanent (Destroyed tanks, killed men).

The East Germans also suffered heavy casualties at 57%, 22% of which were permanent.

The Dutch attained 42% of the Victory Points in this battle, and according to the balance calculator, they achieved a Draw.

The Dutch still made mistakes here, for example:
-The First infantry company got bogged down by East German tanks before they could reach the enemy positions and were left ineffective for the entire match.
-The Leopard tanks spearheaded into a forest where they did not expect any flank security, but then met it and suffered heavy casualties as a result.

3d titles tend to be quite a bitch for that because of true los shenanigans. Combat Mission for example is most obviously designed for engagements at longer ranges: it is quite nice in house to house shootings but unit AI is not responsive enough to handle CQC, and the lack of internal walls is not enough to fix it. Steel Panthers and Close Combat, working on a higher level of abstraction, can manage a little better.

>Bradleys in general mount the most reliable ATGMs for their price range, M2A2 is decently protected but suffers in availability. Despite this it is the closest blufor equivalent to the BMP-3.
>Riflemen 90 are identical to Motostrelki 90 in infantry fighting(shit). Riflemen have an advantage against lighter armor and against good optics recon while in buildings due to their longer range and higher rate of fire. Motostrelki 90 have an advantage in forests against heavier armor due to superior penetration.
>Marines 90 will beat most 30 point redfor shock 1v1 or at least an equal cost of lesser infantry. For the most part they have inferior AT in comparison to their redfor counterparts. They also aren't available in most specialized decks
>SMAW is effective against both infantry and armor

>stingers are reliable, if somewhat short ranged

>delta, cheap, versatile transports, shit AT, shit MG, can still beat up on lesser inf in cities
>no atgms
>no motorized apcs or ifvs

Infantry is by far the most mediocre part of the US deck. Despite this, it is still usable, mostly due to its (arguably the most)powerful transports. Bradleys will usually make back several times their cost when allowed to use their TOW missiles effectively. The M2A2 is even a major threat to superheavies. When in a specialized deck you will lack marines and SMAW, your most effective infantry killers. Winning infantry battles is still possible in a specialized deck, your first resort should be simply using fire support, followed by bombers and/or artillery. If these are not options a combination of assault engineers and a 10 man squad will be able to defeat most enemy infantry at close range.

I'm limited to 2000 characters and had to heavily abridge this tab.

>implying the shtora system doesn't ramp IR frequency to counter exactly this
proofs?

Shtora fucking don't do that. There is no way to know what frequencies is being used by the missile since the IR beam is facing away from the tank. You could literary load the system with like 20 different patterns since even if the russians knew all of them, there would be no way of knowing which pattern the incoming missile is using.
The manual explicitly state that a random pattern is used, so shtora is literary useless against it.

>Muh APS
Nice moving goalposts, vatnik. At least you admit that shtora is just as useless as pretty much everything else russia produces.
Besides, only Armata uses radar threat warning systems, the T90 and other shtora equipped tanks first notice that they are being targeted by a TOW when the russian pigs inside have been turned to bacon.
>inb4 Muh laser warning systems
TOW don't use laser to guide, no luck there.
>>
>>126120607
>moving the goalposts
More like, reminding you that the argument is irrelevant since you lose anyway

>There is no way to know what frequencies is being used

Uhm I'm pretty sure it's IR!!!!

>The manual explicitly state that a random pattern is used, so shtora is literary useless against it.

Let's have some common sense here

This random pattern is selecting some frequency within the IR spectrum. If the Shtora system is constantly shifting through the IR spectrum, at some point the TOW and Shtora will be matching frequency - thus sending your precious TOW flying into the dirt.

>PIVADS is more survivable than chaparrals and hawks. It is cheap, you get a lot of them, and they never have to reload making them ideal for defeating helicopter rushes. It is at a 175m range disadvantage against common redfor helicopter launched ATGMs.

>ATACMS are guaranteed to kill any vehicle you can hit with them
>Paladin has bad rate of fire allowing enemies to escape.

America's only stabilized AA option is the Avenger, which is short ranged. This means an American deck may have to stop a push over open terrain if confronted with helos. Despite this their AA is very powerful and doesn't have many problems dealing with redfor airpower. All of their artillery except the ATACMS is mediocre, giving US decks problems pushing against infantry they can neither see or bomb.

The US only gets 1 card of superheavy. It also has a drop in AP power for all the tanks intermediate in cost between the M8 and M1A1. Pretty much all the tanks here function as bullet sponges. Most of the US tank tab is shit, but there are still enough cards of viable units to fill up an armored deck.

You wrote:

The TOW uses an xenon lamp, if it worked like you think, why not just dial in to the xenon range to begin with?
The TOW-2 pulses the lamp, like all arc lamps does, and by changing the frequency of the pulsing you get a pattern impossible to spoof.

TOW firing unit specifies a frequency, and sends it to the missile. The missile then pulses the Xe lamp at said frequency.

Now, the Shtora system does a similar thing, except ramping through the frequency spectrum used by the TOW. This is literally no more than a software upgrade. At some point during the ramp, the TOW and Shtora will be operating on the same pulse frequency, thus disrupting the TOW's guidance.

Wavelength and frequency of light is directly tied to each other since the speed of light is a constant you utter retard.
You're just shaming yourself at this point. Why the fuck are you banging on about that shit when the properties of Xe IR spectrum is known and understood, even by some russians?

As for your MS paint, you STILL haven't understood how the guidance work.
You tune the receiver to a fixed 827-919 nm, the IR spectrum of Xe. You tell the transmitter to pulse the IR light at set frequencies and ignore any other source not pulsing at the correct frequency. Change frequency a couple of hundred times a second. Even if shtora manages to guess the correct frequency once in a blue moon, it'll only hold it for a fraction of a second, not changing the flightpath the slightest. Cue a T-90 going for the record in the turret tossing competition.

But infantry combat in Steel Panthers is complete trash. They are dumb fuck tanky and stealthy, REGARDLESS of terrain like highways, open deserts, etc. Most combat is in general, because it's entirely a game of who's units move into the other guy's first. When 4 tanks show up simultaneously, at least one of them are going to fire and kill the single defending tank on the hill. Instead they all come in piecemeal because of the turn based system.

Flanking is irrelevant because the moving guy still always loses. Even if you approach a tank from the rear half a klick away, it will always still 180 it's turret instantly and get the kill.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHH
OH WOW
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
WTF
Ok nigger, here's the deal, the IR the missile uses isn't on 24/7, it is pulsed at a certain frequency. This frequency changes, and the pattern is known to Mr. missile only. This has numerous advantages, first of all that you can fire 2 missiles a the same time from the position without both missiles fucking each other up with identical IR pulse frequency (how is the missile to know which belongs to him and which to the other if the pulse frequency is identical?). Secondly electro-optical interference is neutered, as there is no way to effectively figure out the pulse frequency (it is constantly changing) and use it as defense against the missile.
The best you can hope for is that the system detects the direction of the missile and swivels frontal armor to face it.

None of this matters though since your precious shtora can't "look up", its elevation is a little over 20°, whereas the javelin is coming in at an angle of 45°.

W:RD isn't a wargame, the only reason people even talk about it is because A) it is the game this general was initially about and B) It doesn't have another home (unlike HoI which has a massive GSG)

To put it differently, go play HoI3 as Germany/Russia followed by playing Gary Grigsby's War in the East, then try and tell me you think those two games belong in the same genre. Pretty much the only thing those 2 games have in common is WW2.

>>126162531
For several reasons, it'S not that easy. Like how modern IR missiles can distinguish the aircraft through flares by means of spectral identification and other means, modern optical systems are incredibly good at picking out select light sources and wavelengths. We have been doing that in astronomy for years, picking out the IR emissions from plants back lighted by stars. Shtora has no way of putting out enough power to "burn through" the IR guidance, especially if you take polarisation and such into account when guiding a missile. What you could do is to shine a laser into the receiver, that works but Shtora don't do that as far as I know. It's quite hard knowing from where the missile was launched since the Base station don't give out any emissions like laser guidance or anything.

It's your post I'm pulling the quotes from you utter retard. You keep flip flopping and changing what you say in each and every post.
But fine, let's assume you're just retarded bad at making your points and you understand how the guidance work. How the fuck can Shitora guess the frequency when it can be altered digitally? And again remember that you can from highest to lowest in the frequency range without passing the intermediate frequencies.
