I tried it with both preset 1 and 3 and both aren't perfectly smooth. My OC is finicky because if I raise the voltage anymore the CPU throttles, and if I lower it anymore the game gets unstable and stutters. And if I lower the clock rate any more it's simply not strong enough to run smoothly.

Now that I think about it, AC4 is a great OC stress test.

I just remembered the whole gallery mode for planes, and now I can trigger the slowdown on demand just by seeing the plane at certain angles.

It also lags a bit when you're playing in 3rd person, and even in 1st person theres lags on Tango Line (which I'm been reluctant to play because worst mission in the game)

Man, the worst fucking thing about this game is the petty little political games it makes you play.

I leveled the SU-35. I don't use 6AAM, only HPAA. But now every time I get kicked I feel paranoid. Was it just because my team outscored the host? Or was it because he thought I was a meta shitter? Is he a dick? Or is he just trying to keep the playing field level?

I guess I could spend time and fuel leveling a new plane but it'd feel stupid to spend all the effort just to keep up appearances. Plus people will kick me anyway, so what's the point? It just seems like the way this game is set up encourages pettiness and awful behavior.

Pistons are pretty fun to play, but speed will barely overtake a level 1 phantom if you take your piston to level 10 and above.

Also, after level 11, the cost of levelling a SP piston reaches Block 1 Morgan levels. The tree pistons are roughly a level behind (ie. level 13 tree piston will cost around the same as level 12 SP piston).

If you're happy with a bit of a challenge, and can somehow cope with the lack of speed, they are really fun to play, but from experience and others' anecdote, you can expect a drop of about 100-200 MR if you swap from a level 15 jet to a piston.

The only thing holding me back is the fact that I don't really have any high level jets yet and I still have to get to some necessary parts on the tree. It also blows how the paths branch out drastically right before the piston fighters. Research is also so absurdly slow so opening up all those nodes is going to make reaching a piston fighter grueling.

At least with the bombers, it's a single straight line in the tree instead of a million nodes that suck up research.

I stopped playing Retro Combat on pistons because in all the Retro Combat I've played, the players that can actually compete with me(and by that, I mean able to consistently score within 20k of me) I can count with 2 hands.

Part of it is the fact that I have an SP Piston at level 10. Another part of it is the fact that whales can't piston. The last part is that people haven't played enough on their pistons. I cut my teeth by S ranking every campaign mission on a level 8 Spitfire -FA-.

I was afraid of this. I've been playing for about 2 months now and I feel like I haven't made that much progress. At first I was pissed that you only get to play 3 times per day, then I was mad that it takes a billion years to unlock plane expansion slots. Now I'm pissed that on top of limiting how much you can play daily, I only get like ~3% research per sortie.

If they want you to grind, then fine. If they wanna limit how much you can play, well that's just stupid but whatever. However, combining these two has resulted in the biggest amount of bullshit that I've ever come across in a game.
