Most characters in TW3 look similar. That's the difference. They made similar faces and body types for the major characters, thus they have the best similar models.
Whereas DA wanted their characters to look distinct, especially since you were playing a story with a character of your own creation. Implementing a character creator into a game and merging that with other models is not simple.

I think the worst thing about the Dragon Age series is how they never manage to make their high fantasy setting feel truly magical. There just isn't this otherworldly feel to the setting that really should be there according to the lore. There's hardly any mystery and the fantastical stuff is so mundane and unimaginative that it doesn't add anything of value to the game that it is set against a fantasy backdrop. They have these concepts that sounds good on paper but never manage to manifest any of it in the games.

Consider for example the grey wardens. They are this ancient order that have managed to topple every not-zombie invasion since they started, nobody knows how they did it and the order is very small and forgotten at the start of Origins to the point of complete irrelevance. However another blight has begun and they're needed again so you're recruited.

Now you would expect such an old order to be wrapped in mysticism and tradition and the members to be these legendary warriors that most people found weird or were almost afraid of. Sort of like a witcher or something, but more respected. So when you're initiated into the order you'd think that it would involve a lot of things and that being a part of it would significantly change how the world perceived you. That's not the case however, you're just given dorkspawn blood to drink and then that's it, you're one of them now. Oh, but you're supposed to have this connection to the corrupted god/archdemon/undead dragon and stuff? Yeah, but that only plays into the game once or twice at most. You're not any different from how you were during the prologue, except now you can kill the final boss.

The grey warden order is just as silly and contrived as the hero academy at the start of NWN when push comes to shove and it's just a way for Bioware to force the player into the hero role but they completely neglect yo actually do something interesting with it. You don't get any special skills or anything like that, you're not given a perspective on the world that you may trust or not, you're not changed in any real way... It's just a hero ticket.

Everything in the Dragon Age games are like the grey warden order, conceptually it has potential but fuck you if you thought Bioware was even going to try.

While I agree that Origins did too little with the wardens considering they made an entire dlc about a crazy Warden on the verge of unlocking the secrets of blood magic, the blighted blood was never implied to give a warden any sort of superpowers other than delayed immunity to the blight and better awareness of darkspawn that the wardens perceive as simple noise. I think the Calling and Last Flight dealt with making the wardens look like a bunch of guys who have a lot of expectations placed on them but can't really deal with any of it pretty well, and it doesn't matter anyway because there won't be a warden in the games ever again

That's irrelevant, you can make the simplest of things magical and mystical. There wasn't any journey involved in becoming a warden and being one didn't really mean anything. Just like being a Spectre in Mass Effect also didn't mean anything.

You'd expect a group that has existed since the first blight and have pushed back every one to be mired in mystery and ritual, to pass on the torch and pass on what they have learned and allow the new generation to expand upon it they'd have to have these traditions and some sort of system so the knowledge doesn't get lost. Whether or not they're a lot more effective against darkspawn or not is besides the point, the order itself was just boring.

They always spell it out for you precisely what's going on in the dullest way possible and you're never required to think for yourself or use your imagination at all. Even the elves are uninteresting to the max even though they actually went through some effort to differentiate them from the generic elves you see in awful fantasy. It's not enough to say that something is awesome or weird or whatever, you have to actually make it that way and show it in the game. None of the neat ideas ever truly manifest in the game itself but are stuck in the lore somewhere.

You could make such a mundane thing as a locked door or a castle or whatever fascinating and fantastical if you just present it the right way but Bioware seem to be unable to grasp that. They keep turning good concepts into generic banalities.

Look at Inquisition -- the Inquisitor is literally unique in the world, but he/she still feels like a pointless plot device at times despite all that mystique surrounding their mark. Meanwhile, people still can't get over the Warden and Shepard who are basically common chumps who belong to an organization that goes from obscure and seemingly powerful to mostly mundane (see: Wardens being clueless morons, spectres having agents like that dumb Salarian who can't catch Kasumi in ME3).

That's not what I'm saying at all. Being one of the last wardens or the first human spectre is exactly that, "blamo, you're the chosen badass now and the tutorial is hardly over!!!". I have those Morrigan and Duncan figures. They're ok but absolutely not worth the second hand prices they go for now. Since they've been doing those ME bishoujo figures, I was kind of expecting them to do a Morrigan or Isabela too but I don't think it's going to happen. We don't even have a Miranda and she's probably the third most popular female companion in that series.

Those titan things are nightmarish. I don't know how anyone approved them.

As far as protagonists go you could do it right in many ways, either a predefined one that's very much a part of the world and you also get to explore and learn about or a mundane blank slate to contrast that against the fantastical things you encounter.

Anyway, the protagonist wasn't what I was talking about, it was the setting and the gameworld being presented like in a bad comic book or fanfictiony way that doesn't use the fantastical setting very well. Compare and contrast with the Souls series that presented its world in a very good manner. Or just about any fairy tale or folk story. When you have dragons in your setting and they're just another critter to deal with you're doing something wrong.

I'm just hoping that the dragons are slowly being introduced more and more for a reason. Yavana's attitude towards them leads me to think that it's not just the dragon's form itself that is sacred. They could very well pull a creation story involving them out of their ass by the end.

I don't know why I would expect anything, but it was so fucking cool seeing that, I just couldn't believe how nonchalant everyone was about it. Alistair was like that was the Nth High Dragon he just walloped.

I am not used to seeing stuff like that in RPGs. Fatalities in non-action games. And I was just stunned. I can only imagine how many other players felt that when they also came across something like that. If it's going to make people wanna replay your game or just that fight, until they get that extra little bit of dialogue, why not include it? Can you imagine the dedication it would pertain? And all of these players would then rave about it to their friends. Did we even have cool fatalities in DA:I?

Yes. You can't do it until after you have beaten the main quest anyway but if you have any side quests or collections that you want to wrap up you need to do them before Trespasser. It warns you on the screen when you go to accept the quest at the war table.

The whole point of Trespasser is that you play it to get the ending. Reload to the time before you started Trespasser, get 100% completion. Play Trespasser again and get 100% completion on Trespasser.
Just because you end the game doesn't mean you can't just reload before it unless you don't make multiple saves.

But yeah, single player is OVER. I know my final save for good intent and purposes is at the moment before you step into the Eluvian and speak to Solas so I can replay it infinitely.

there are several things you can do with digital art regardless that are impossible to get without spending assloads of money in traditional art, especially when it comes to colors and pigments. Plus you don't have to wait for drying, you don't have to worry about a mess, you can just dive right in and practice work with tone and color. It's great for developing skills in that department.

Traditional is a very layered process that takes a lot of time to get something that looks good and clean, whereas digital art takes about the same time to produce similar imagery in the time of a sketch (even if doing a full piece can take about as long as traditional work, but usually for different reasons). All up to preference really

Of course it takes more time. You're creating an actual piece of work that is completely tangible with the utmost precision. Who cares about easy. You don't have a passion for what's easy. There's less substance in digital art. Sure for a brief moment in time you get something to look at. But something that has depth, precision, and time is something worth gazing upon, feeling, living in it. However, I guess when it comes to games, comics and other less serious media none of that matters now does it.

No digital piece of work will ever compare to traditional because it isn't real. It also sucks that people seem to take the easy way out and produce all their tumblr tier cartoons thanks to digital media. I hope they all lose their hands. How disgraceful.
