i completed water woes. i completed lakeside getaway. i completed rescue at the esconced citadel. i completed sunceleg rises. and i completed that other orphean mission 'the journey begins' just to be safe. i surveyed 60-70% of all the continents and completed all of the story chapters.

The amount of quests that start innocently then end up with several people dying are getting ridiculous.

What the hell unlocks the mission to unlock Yelv? Everywhere I read says that it's a very early game mission, but I've finished Chapter 8 and never found anything relating to him. Dual Guns are one of the more useful ranged weapons, because of Ghost Factory, Primer, and Zero Zero. You'll have to level multiple classes anyways to pick up their skills and maybe a different melee weapon. FMJ is also fun to play early game.

Does anyone know where I can find a video featuring all of the available Skells/Dolls in the game?

I guess these can be considered spoilers to some but I'm interested in getting one of the DLC(that's already in the game in the west) skells but the afinity quests they're tied to take a while and a good amount of effort so I want to prioritize what I go for first.

I've looked around but I cant find any video that features all the skells you can get in the game. Even when I type dolls for Japanese results. Any help would be appreciated.

The doc says its 60 TP per hit, haven't tried it myself though. 10 hits of 200% damage is pretty good for a non TP art. It works with melee combos, so a build focusing on them and using the Fast Forward skill benefits from it. Also the 10 hits is good for building overdrive counter. Most of the high level solo videos I've seen have it as their only ranged art.

At the end of the Spy Games Affinity Quest, like a retard I skipped some dialogue at the very last portion of the quest, when you're outside after speaking to the director general.

It skipped to a dialogue choice where I could "express shock" but I don't know what I was meant to be shocked about. Elma then said something like "well he would have sent his own son..."

It's 600 TP. And it's one of the few ranged arts that combos from melee.

Shadow Strike -> Zero Zero -> Seventh Edge -> Sky High > Stream Edge will, on top of keeping you in Overdrive forever with Primer and Blood Sacrifice, will pretty much kill everything in the game without the need to max Duelist and dump all your augment slots into Potential.

The stat screen for ground gear is not going to tell you stats for skells. If you look in the upgrade menu you can see what the Drive augments actually do. Melee Attack Drive V increases skell melee attack by 5% for example.

What's a good ranged weapon type to pair with photon sabers? I went into the Duelist tree and am currently using the Ramjet Rifle for that sweet sweet TP, but I just got the skill that gives TP every time I use an art so I don't think I need it anymore.

Monolithsoft didn't make Xenogears. Xenogears was made by Squaresoft and is one of the best PS1 games, if not THE best.

Monolithsoft made the Xenosaga series for PS2. Xenosaga just has lot of homage elements that reference Xenogears, and isn't officially connected in any way. It's basically Monolithsoft's fanfic sequel to Xenogears. And yes, it's notorious for very long cutscenes. Also Xenosaga 2 and 3 are pretty shit. They ruined Shion's character after the first game too. She went from nerdy scientist girl MC to fashionable dumb chick. It was sad actually.

Been playing this as a single player with just Lin elma and lao so far. Don't really understand how the squad/ multiplayer stuff works or what the incentives are to do it. I see the other player avatars scattered around the world. Is there a reason I should bother to take them into my party instead of sticking with the default members I can level and use whenever and however I want?

I'm trying to get blue electrical tentacles from dougills at Silent Mire and the waterfall cave and am I supposed to target appendages or something because 10 kills so far and no sign of the drop.

I heard you don't have to change your armor to keep the cute outfits like the school uniform or the swimsuits.
How do I do that?

It's better to stick with your ingame characters so you can level them and raise their affinity. Scouting other characters give your team a bonus, like Ranged Attack Up if they're an interceptor or Critical Up if they're a curator (I think that's curators). But you really don't need that stuff and you'd be losing out on building up your own characters.

I'm aware, but it's really not the same thing. There are a few guys who went with him to help found Monolithsoft, but not the entire team. You can't rightly say Monolithsoft was responsible for Xenogears; some of them played roles in its development, that's all. I honestly hated the way they took Xenosaga after the first game, it seemed to have a lot of potential, and they completely drove it into the ground. IIRC there was some budget or development problem, I forget what it was all about, but I refuse to give them a free pass for that. They redeemed themselves with Xenoblade though. Xenoblade was a really amazing game.

XBCX is GOOD, but not quite as good as Xenoblade, especially in the music department. I feel like they're going to let me down in the end in the story department too, that's my gut feeling anyway, given the story so far.

Assault rifles are seriously underrated.
Decoy round can be used twice in succession at stage 2 of the cooldown netting you up to 1800 TP (and the animation is really short).
There's two arts that topple if you're against mechanoids, one if you're not.
A buff that gives 6000 TP total to everyone in the party except you and only costs 1000 TP.
I'll admit the rest of the arts are pretty meh (except maybe Medic Free), but what I listed alone is pretty damn good.
