How do melee combos work exactly ?
I've been using the lightsaber class but my damage randomly ranges from 200 to 3000 on the same monster (at around 20) and I have no idea why. Meanwhile my friend casually deals 10-15 000 damage with his sniper at a lower level.

There's a cave on Beachside Trove which has around 20 item drops of which there's beagfly squash.

Jump off the probe location from the cliff onto the beach.

You should land near a yellow marker/treasure.

Hug the wall to the right until you find a cave opening which leads to another opening inside where the item drops are.

Focus probes on places with sight seeing. 1 location with a sight seeing spot is better than an A rank spot. Booster probes and duplicator probes are nice too, linking them up effectively of course. The opening area to Notcilum gives me some good revenue even with G1 probes I'm getting 40k+

That sounds like the Attack Augments section of Skell Weapon Augments, make sure you're in Frame Augments. All you need is 1 of the materials for the augment to show in the menu, and the materials for it are very common.

Yeah, just stand on a ledge above enemy to trigger above bonus (pay attention to the position indicator on bottom right of screen). Light Skells can equip 3 frame augments, while Medium/Heavy can equip only 2. So you probably only need 1 of each for above/behind augments.
The scythe seems to be better to me, especially if you equip all ATK2 armor for the skell for the bonus beam damage on each one. It does 2 hits and deals extra damage from behind.

Honestly, the best parts of the game is the first 30 hours where you're running around on foot trying to find out how the fuck you get to some places. I loved climbing up the cliffs in Primordia to drop down on to a plateau where a treasure was.

I agree to a point, but I also think that all that time spent walking is what makes getting the Skell feel so good. I was 60 or so hours in before I got my Skell, and had pretty much seen all I could find, and was sort of lamenting the fact that because the world was so big, I barely recognized any of it. I couldn't tell where I was in relation to anything and most of my traveling was spent staring at the map rather than the screen. Then, you get the Skell, and suddenly everything adds up and you have a much better perspective of the world as a whole and it feels super great.
