You wont be making your dream game first. You're going to be making small games with small scopes, so those games will be easy to just keep in your mind.

Once you get better at gamedev and you can work on your big dream game then you can have a doc full of ideas and plot and whatever else.

Ran into a bug. Not sure how I managed to do it. I was trying to drift but got kind of confused and was just kind of mashing X and C and arrow keys. And then my car kept turning right, even when I wasn't pressing either direction. And it seemed drifting was impossible after that happened.

However I restarted the game and was able to play it flawlessly, I like it, good work.

You can learn html+css in like 2 hours on w3schools*com to make a really basic website, after that go on shit like bestwebgallery*com to copy some good design of websites, that's enough to simply make a website to present your game. And if you want some special shit like a blog, learn a bit php and sql over a week, and include some open source blog code to it.

There are some hosts online where you can host your own website like freehosting*com or x10hosting*com or the other countless webhosters and then grab a domain on dot*tk

Actually, using functions in that way is not theoretically bad. It's just not good to do it that way in most languages because you will eventually blow the stack. Languages with tail call optimization don't have this problem, but C# is not one of them.

* Drifting is basically a two-button combo, c -> x+arrow, but you only get feedback from the game at the end of the combo once you start turning more that you'd normally be able to. This makes it hard to know if you're on the right track when you're learning it, and hard to know if you've fucked up until well after the fact. The game would feel much better if there were some instant visual cue that you got parts A/B of the combo right as soon as you got them right. A good example IMO, if stylized, is mario kart. When you perform part A, the handbrake part, you will always hop a little in the air, and as soon as you've turned enough for the game to register the drift you hear a sparking noise. Maybe something a little more subtle, like a puff of exhaust smoke, would work.
* The fact that your turn radius is hard limited makes it hard to get back on track if you fell off. Making it so you can turn harder at lower speeds would make getting back on track less tedious without fucking with the core gameplay

Never posted here before; I am going to take a "ANSI C" and a "Intro to Java" class at a community college to fulfill some CS credits for another degree that I can get with my main degree.

I used to make stuff as a kid in game maker and flash but I'd always stop working on them when they became too "duct-taped". I didn't like waiting then and I don't like waiting now lol.

I want to ooo and aaa the professors with a simple game that can be slightly customize-able. I know how to use expat, does XML work as a scripting language for a game? Lua is probably the easiest language to get into if you already know programming. Setting it up as a scripting language inside of java or C is probably going to be harder. Java might have some already made thingie, but for C you're on your own.

It's either a case of your PC being really, really slow or some specific hardware quirk I am not aware of and cannot fix because it's related to openGL drivers.

I honestly prefer the german word for computer science "Informatik". Its combination of the words for information and mathematics and thats basically what CS covers.

the thing is that it's too hard to drift inwards. You either drift early enough or else you're stuck during the whole curve bumping in the outward bound. The fun in drifting is going back and forth between "going too much inwards and going too much outwards", like balancing a skateboard on a handlebar.

In your game it feels like you only have control on one side, which doesn't let you fuck up inwards and once you fuck up outwards you're basically done.

I was absolutely flabergasted by the transition to the neon city but then the next game I went to resort island and it felt lackluster. It's ok, but I was expecting something really smooth like that pink sunset screen you have at the end with the scoreboard.

Sound track is dope.

Visuals are really great overall too.

Don't worry too much, the drift problem should be an easy fix and the game will be really great after.

Also a suggestion, you might wanna have a few track variations for each area. Redoing the same desert track over and over becomes slightly tedious quickly when you know what to expect every turn.

Also, and that might not be good advice, but some blur on the break lights of the car could be really fantastic. I love nothing more than a blue night with really bright red lights like in vice city or pic related.

If everything goes according to plan (i.e. my kickstarter gets funded), I'm gonna add a race mode with different tracks using the same graphics/locations from the arcade mode.

I repeated the tracks on this demo because that's what I did with the previous demos too. It's just a demo, it doesn't need that much content. The "canon" path is monument valley -> resort islands -> neon city.

I've been lurking for a while, could someone explain?

Are you guys building your game from scratch? Is that what you do?

I wish to make a game that can be sold, a game similiar to Mount & Blade, Morrowind, Dark Messiah, semi-old graphics and perhaps basic physic engine, did they make it from scratch or do the buy licence right for a game-engine?

Are there anons here, who make games using pre-existing engines, or are those guys hated?

Also, unrelated, why does Minecraft suck balls? Are they restricted by java-engine? Or are the mods lazy or incompetent?

They could improve minecraft so much, but it takes them years just to add some bunnies, when the game itself should have atleast 20 new mobs, tons of loot etc.

Minecraft enjoy extreme commercial success, when you have a game like that you have to be careful that you don't break the popular core gameplay by shoveling in new content that introduces too much change. Also there's a need to optimize it which can be more important than new content and for a voxel game there's always something more to optimize.


Modders pushing optional gameplay aren't subject to any content limitation which is why they can easily push tons of new content quickly.

If I'm making a 2d game in unity, how do I make a wall/platform/etc texture tile instead of stretching if I change its size?
I don't think I'm supposed to make a custom texture for every single specifically sized wall or platform.

I dont know, but in the Mesh Renderer component on the object, where it lists the material, one of the settings is Tiling. But I dont think this would change automatically when you resize the object, you'd have to resize the object then adjust the tiling yourself. Or maybe it does it automatically, I dont know 3d

I am going to be honest here, organic things are one of the hardest to make in 3d, especially humans, and most especially faces. The tutorials posted are for people who already have knowledge with blender, and even with that, that tutorial is kind of garbage because he doesn't really spills the information he should be giving. You won't like to hear this, but stop doing anime meshes right now, and start with easy 3d shit first. You are like those deviantart faggots who draw cripple moeblobs because they started drawing with them first without ever taking a look at anatomy. No painting master ever started with a masterpiece, and the same goes for 3d. As a german proverb says: "Es ist noch kein Meister vom Himmel gefallen."

Now do this:

In the material properties. Normaly you use the default Sprites-Default material in the sprite renderer, but you can choose another one. Create a new material with the "Sprites/Default" shader and add it to your renderer, in your material you see the part with "tiling".
