I don't know if you know this but having a decent amount of people on a server is actually important for an MMO.

Even if lolten fakes their numbers, it's pretty obvious they have at least 2k on that server as you're always running into people while questing and there are hardly queue times for bgs or finding a group.

You cannot say the same thing for dalaran.
I'd queue during peak times and still would come up dry for hours.

Been testing out Warmane's WotLK quests on the PTR.

Dragonblight straight up doesn't work, 3/4 of the quests I tried in Sholazar are uncompletable, Zul'Drak arena event is broken, Grizzly Hills works "okay" (only 3 quests were uncompleteable), haven't got to Icecrown, Stormpeaks or Howling Ford/Borean Tundra yet but I don't expect them to be much better at all.

Hope you're ready to run out of quests and do some old fashion grinding to reach 80.

We have 3 bosses left to test in SSC, then our raids have been fully tested. So we will not shutdown the server yet. However, our host has released a new set of VPS instances, and there's one that works for us that's 30% of the price of the one we've been using up until now (we had to pay extra for a lot of computation power when we really just needed more RAM than the other instances offered). So basically keeping the server up won't really be a strain on our economy (or indeed the nice people that have helped us out with keeping it up), since this new instance is cheap indeed.

Besides working on SSC I've also done some work on vanilla raids. There's plenty of useful stuff that assists TBC raiding in vanilla raids. Our initial plan was to keep them closed (the option has always been, make them or have them closed), but together with the guilds we're working with to do testing we've decided that would be a mistake. I've implemented molten core already (https://github.com/ccshiro/cc-buglist/issues/412) and I'm almost done with Zul'gurub.

Btw, since we're now on a new instance the server IP is different (the new one is in the #corecraft topic

Hybrid classes don't do as much damage as pure classes in TBC so don't expect to top damage meters.

However, besides personal DPS, there's several arguments for taking a ret:
1. You really want to have 3 blessings in a 25-man raid but 2 holy paladins tends not to be ideal, 2 protadins certainly isn't and buffing outside raid is awful. Retribution is the most reasonable way to get the third blessing.
2. Crusader Strike refreshes judgements so retribution can keep up Wisdom and Light judgements (on top of their own Judgement of Crusader, +3% which protection can spec to but rather wouldn't, and since protadins are often in offtanking duty, they might not be able to judge the main target anyway) and that's actually a pretty big deal in terms of DPS alone (less time spent life tapping etc).
3. Improved Sanctity Aura compensates for your lower personal DPS to an extent (2% more damage to 4 other guys in your party plus your personal DPS is pretty much what rogues without glaives do).
4. Utility like Blessing of Freedom/Protection/dispels/resistance auras

In practise, one retribution paladin tends to be a part of an ideal 25-man raid composition but while they actually aren't THAT bad (pic related), min/maxers certainly won't take a second retri because it's not optimal, and there's a strong stigma against retribution in general and some guilds might not even take that one.

For PvP, they're not great but not that bad either actually. Retribution is a good solo PvP spec and comps like restoshaman+retri are pretty good in 2vs2 and you can fit a retri in 3vs3 and 5vs5 setups as well.

It's worth noting that Horde is very much preferable for retribution because Seal of Blood is better than Seal of Vengeance/Command that Alliance paladins have access to.

It wouldn't have been good because the encounters simply aren't good and there isn't any good environments or lore or anything in there either, but it wouldn't have been offensively terrible if it had been "tier 8.5" (difficulty at least on-par with Ulduar rather than below, and gear that doesn't instantly make Ulduar obsolete, like ilvl 232/245 from 10/25-man hardmodes with Sunwell-esque itemization of augmenting the previous tier).
