I'd rather have space carriers just be a long thin tube with racks for fighters along the exterior with automated refuel/rearm trains running on rails between the racks. Add a few maintenance hangars, some point defense and little else. Just a barebones ship full of fighters. And preferably only fighter drones since in ME manned fighters don't make sense. Maybe a rail catapult system to launch fighters with, drones can withstand higher G-forces than people and a souped up mega-catapult would conserve fuel for the fighters.

If I can recommend something:
ME3 isn't that terrible a game for 90% of the playtime, but the last 10 minutes is tumblrite fan-fiction-tier writing with tons of logical fallacies, character assassination, and a complete dismissal of the themes of the entire series, all made worse when EA tried to defend it with the Extended Cut DLC.

I strongly suggest, especially if you enjoyed ME 1 and 2, to get one of the "Happy Ending" mods (doesn't matter which one), and the Citadel Epilogue Mod (which requires the ME3 Citadel DLC). The flow of the story works much, much better this way (since the Citadel DLC's tone is much too lighthearted for the primary plot, especially when it's designed to be played right before the final missions).

It just changes a few dialogue options (most notably Joker's dialogue is spliced so that it's obvious that it takes place after the events of ME3) and some text and it's fairly seamlessly for the most part. There's a bit of dialogue that's been cut in reference to NPCs going off to fight the Reapers, but it doesn't detract much from the primary cast.

The way it's slotted into the game means that the epilogue only happens if you reach conditions at endgame where Shepard survives, so things like parts of the Citadel still being intact an so on don't take huge imaginary leaps.
