Most hosts are summoning because they have never beaten the noss before and are literally too shit to solo it ever. They summon phantoms to carry them, and even then, they can rarely survive more than 30 seconds. If you want your vermin, then you need to be able to exterminate the boss in sub 30 seconds or else the host's inevitable death will send you packing every time. Like less than 1% of beckoners are doing it because they're competent enough to solo but want to have fun co-oping. Co-op is the 'carry me' service for the overwhelming majority of absolutely shit players that would rather watch somebody else beat their game for them than learn how to actually play it themselves. I actually had the most success with his second form locking on and staying close.

If he tries to do that hand-over-hand explosion crawl he just goes in a wide circle around you. You have to be able to i-frame through some of his swipes but it isn't too bad. When he fire-spits or shits lava it's basically a couple seconds free to heal up or beat on him.

When I tried to keep my distance he'd always close in and wreck me but as soon as I stayed close I beat him easy.

She washed up dead. Byrgenwerth may have snubbed her unborn child for a cord, it's unclear. But they definitely fucked with the residents of the Hamlet by fishing through their brains for eyes. The Orphan(and probably its sort of dead mother with it) cursed Byrgenwerth and their descendants to be pulled into the Hunter's Nightmare upon blood-drunkenness. The reason I think they killed the Orphan is because we only get the Nightmare Slain message once we hit the ethereal looking Orphan spirit thing. The Orphan we fought was likely just a fleshdummy it imagined using its hatred similar to how Gehrman imagined the Doll using his love for Maria.

This is pretty close to my interpretation. I took Kos and Orphan being dead-but-not-really as homage to Lovecraft's 'dead but dreaming' Cthulhu. The idea being that these are beings we can only understand up to a certain point; their flesh is perishable but their consciousness extend deep into planes unknown to us.

I guess the Ur example of this in Bloodborne would be the Yharnam Stone.

There's lots of examples of it in the main game. Gehrman probably stopped existing in the physical world decades ago, Micolash is dead in the real world but alive in the Nightmare, and same with Laurence and basically all of the Hunters in the nightmare. Annalise lives even when she's mush, and Yharnam presumably has something similar going on with the Stone. I'm surprised everyone seems to think she's dead for good just because humans operate on those terms. This even puts the "tomb of Oedon" into context, or at least it could. Great Ones may very well just take on another ethereal form upon death or some shit. Idk

Yeah. It's less that I was sad to have killed Orphan, and more sad for everything terrible that happened because of what humans did when confronted with a power they didn't understand. Cruelty, death, ruin, and all of it came down to that.

I feel bad for the Great Ones overall, I think. Aside from Amygdalas none of the Great Ones seem actually hostile--more defending their territory (in the Nightmare) or just imprisoned and alone (Ebrietas), or just hanging out (Rom). Even the Moon Presence probably thinks it's helping.

I've been using the Rifle Spear, which has an awesome charge attack, but thats it.

I managed to run through the first part of the hunter's nightmare and kill the guy for the piercing rifle, so I have that as my firearm, which is pretty nice.

Beat story dungeon, aquire the root version of that chalice and the next chalice in line in the process of doing so.

Root dungeons are where all the good stuff is, better runes, uncanny/lost weapons, dank gems. You can also perform additional rites when making root dungeons to get better drops.

You're ultimate goal is to aquire the root chalices of all three depth 5 dungeons and to make at least one root dungeon with all three rites performed. This will let you access any dungeon anyone has shared online for free and let you grind out good gems (chunks will come by the bucket full by that point).

Oh it is. I'm still building the character so the payoff is far away, but the pain is here right now. I'd never realized how shitty a low-damage run would be.

In retrospect, i think what I should've done was raise my bloodtinge as soon as possible so I could use the blunderbuss and/or pistol to maximum effect. You'd need to run past most stuff to conserve bullets, but I have to do that anyway because I deal 0 damage.
