That's actually exactly what happens. Ayo is a good example of the former, and Liam is a good example of the latter. Liam's father is an interesting example of the latter- He unabashedly believes synths are conscious, sentient and sapient, but he doesn't want them to be free because he thinks they will suffer more in the wasteland than in the Institute.

My entire run of FO4 was mostly just this, continually expecting Bethesda to fuck up and being pleasantly surprised when they didn't about 90% of the time. The dialogue is always laughably bad though.

Hey, neither did I. It's still blown my expectations away though. It has good gameplay, which is actually the most surprising. A few of the Elder Scrolls games have had good writing and they all have good setting, but Bethesda has never been able to do anything but really fucking garbage horrible gameplay. Oblivion's the closest they've come before this and its combat still needed mods to fix it and it had a lot of little annoying gameplay foibles that added up to shitty game feel overall.

Redguard, Morrowind, Oblivion. I'd say Daggerfall but it had a lot of inconsistencies and things that read like a teenage dnd nerd's first serious attempt at writing a short story, which bogged down the better parts unfortunately.

I also conveniently forgot Arena, which did not have a good setting, or good anything for that matter, but it wasn't even originally intended to be an rpg from what I've heard.

I visited Teagan after becoming Sentinel to check out the cool new shit he had in stock for me. In his mods tab I saw for the first time a spare missile launcher targeting computer, so I snagged that shit right up and went home to install it. It showed up in the workbench as this instead, which was never an option to craft before. Is it just a unique mod? It's not listed in the wiki or anything, but I don't have any mods that add items like this to my game

Here is some copied and pasted advice then:

The Tank, for starting SPECIAL you want Rooted, which is 9 STR. Lone Wanderer, which is 3 CHA. Bloody Mess, which is 3 LUC. Rest is your choosing. Heres the required perks:

Lone Wanderer, no companion besides Dogmeat. Rank 1 offers 15% damage reduction across the board, Rank 2 offers another 15% damage reduction

Toughness, most of the game is Ballistic damage, 10/20/30/40/50 DT is great, unless you plan to always be in Power Armor or join the railroad, then this is not that great.

Armorer. You are going to get shot at a lot when running into melee, Metal Armor provides amazing Ballistic resistance, moreso than combat armor, but combat armor has more energy resist. Once you start polishing metal armor as well as applying Strengthened sub-mods to arm/legs, and Pneumatic to your chest.. it'll be great being melee at all levels. If you have enough END for Adamantium Skeleton you can apply different sub-mods like explosive damage resistance to take missles to the face and laugh at mines.

I am unable to stress at how awesome the Pneumatic mod is for melee characters, sometimes you shrug off a bash/power attack, sometimes the bash/power attack does not do much stagger. Pneumatic is a required chestpiece sub-mod for all levels its available

Blacksmith, for melee mods, etc. Ignore armor piercing mods and bleeding mods, go for the mods with the highest damage increase.

Rooted, this gives you 25/50 DT and 25%/50% melee/unarmed damage standing still and using VATS.

****Warning, third person camera power attacks will move your character canceling out the Rooted perk bonus. VATS and first person are fine.****

Bloody Mess is more damage, plus some giggle moments watching things explode when you club them with a bat.

Is rooted worth it for melee builds? The only difficult things (on survival) are enemies with guns and I'm constantly chasing after their back-pedaling.

If it's a death claw, well then you can't stand and fight it anyway, it'll just throw you on your ass, I usually just pop some jet and keep circling to it's back.

There are still SPECIAL and Speech checks. There are various quests that let you bypass fetch steps via INT skill checks.

First poster, but gameplay is all the mechanical systems that one uses to actually play the game.

In regards to Oblivion, its attribute/skill system as complete and utter shit for the same reason Fallout 3 was, it was an action game trying to masquerade as an RPG, and nothing fucking matter because of it.

STR and melee weapon skill damage increases were so small you could go 15+ levels and never notice them, attributes were so poorly calculated the difference between 80 and 100 INT amount to all of two medium level spells.

Skyrim played far better because it stopped pretending it was an RPG, and just went ful on action game.

Good setting still but the writing is all "my thing was taken, go kill these draugrs to get it back!" and "we need to perform this complex ritual, so go kill some draugr to get the thing we need to do it!" and the books are mostly shit that was in previous games while the new ones are just reinforcing the whole "by the way shouting was actually dragon language and the nords were super obsessed with dragons even though that has never been mentioned before now" thing. Then the actual questlines are just terrible, from casting one spell to get into the college and being the most important person there after two quests to the companions revealing they're werewolves and trying to get you to join their furry orgy because you saw Farkas in his underwear.

Skyrim wasn't the same shit, not by a logn shot.

Oblivion's scaling system was so bad, even if you focused on weapon and armor skills, you could STILL reach a point where everything out damaged you and made the game impossible.

In Skyrim, the only way for that to happen is if you focus only on non-combat skill y not playing the fucking game.

Skyrim also introduced far larger ranges for shit like HP/Macgicka/Stamina, and made the forced perks from Oblivion, which made every character the same, into optional perks that allowed for at least SOME character diversity.

Skyrim's gameplay still sucked, but it was MILES better then Oblivion.

Blitz, Reaper, Rockville Slugger (Chao's Revenge for Assaultrons) and you're good to go.

I also like having Moving Target to close in on enemies. There are unique combat armor leg pieces that increase speed by 10% each, which you can mod further to reduce AP usage when sprinting.

I've replayed both fairly recently and there's almost no difference.

Absolutely. The thing about melee is that you either have 0% chance or 95% chance to hit in VATS, so perception is a dump stat. Agility/luck are your bread and butter. I don't even have maxed out strength. You can get plenty of strength bonuses from outfits, power armor, chems, liquor, etc. Sneaking is okay, but I'm usually too impatient for that. Blitz is really key, since it increases your damage immensely. You're gonna want to bounce between enemies like a pinball.

I have a MAJOR fucking problem with the pacing in the game's story

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it for the most part but a few things should have been expanded upon

First off a standard police issue .38 revolver should have been added to the game as the original gun you get, the absolute lowest tier of gun.

Second Super mutant armor should have been added to the available items that can be attatched to the power armor suits, as of right now super mutant armor is usesless, and to reference my second point you should have been given an arm and a helmet from T-45 power armor at most, having to use super mutant power armor to fill in the gaps until you find some raiders in raider power armor by luck, the fact that by exploring the world for a total of thirty seconds can net you a whole nother suit of nearly complete armor is fucking idiotic and ruins the skill leveling in this game.

3. Son reveals he is of teh dyeins [oh noes!] (Stupid fucking plot point I could see when he was introduced, what the Fuck, todd?), and names you as the next "Father". Okay, right. Son, you're as crazy as that nutjob who kidnapped you. We're bringing the reactor online, but I'm calling in some external help.

3. Bring in the minutemen, effectively lumping the two groups into one. While meanwhile introducing some minutemen into the council, acting as the restraint these scientists desperately need. Give some bs speech about what the institute used to be, the nature of man, and why synth production beyond gen1 is to be (at least, temporarily) halted.

4. Warn the BOS that while we're willing to be allies; that this is our turf, Fuck off. Minutemen with Gen1 synthetic squads, allowing better tactics and knowledge can fight better than TemplarNova(tm) from out of town.

This allows your son to learn a lesson, the above ground to benefit from the institute, and the institute to benefit as well.

I liked the skill checks a lot more, probably what I miss most from the older games, it gave the feeling that the main character had more personality because you could respond to things according to the skill set you chose for them. Now it feels rigid and like everything is going to be the same in every playthrough even if my character is a completely different person.
I also think the factions' stories could use a lot of work, I liked that in NV you could see and understand the implications of the choices you made and how it would affect things later on. Currently, everything just feels so inconsequential, but I'm hoping DLC will expand on the factions' stories.

This should get you started; you'll want to increase charisma if/when you want to get into settlement building, and personally I think Party Boy/Girl is worth it. Intelligence isn't great to start out, because you won't have the materials to make use of Science. But you're gonna want them eventually. Chem Resistant/Chemist work really well together. I also suggest getting Aqua Boy/Girl at some point, but you don't need it right away. There's just a lot of fucking water in the game.

Skyrim had a better combat system just because the blocks and power attacks actually staggered enemies so they couldn't just hit you again right away.

Combat in Oblivion always felt like I was using my sword to butter people made out of rubber.

I don't get this game, I never heard of the early games in my youth and somehow managed to miss Oblivion too so Skyrim was my first TES.

Decided to go back and play Oblivion thrice by far and I just fucking hate that game for whatever reason. The overworld, combat, basic game mechanics and dungeons are just fucking shit.

Hell I even modded it to oblivion with tons of fixes and so on but still couldn't get into it.
