I'm so damn hyped for the New Danganronpa V3, the character designs they showed have already the same charm the previous two games had, and I hope to God we can see more soon. Cyborg-protagonist especially looks cool as hell, can't wait to see more.

Not so sure about ending Hope's Peak Academy storyline with an anime, though. Would have preferred a game, but if they actually go and link the AE more into it, then I can see why they would go that route. Because let's be honest, AE was only decent as a spin-off.

Well, Komaeda's beta was going to be the Grim Reaper. He even has traces of this in his final design that you can see in his hoodie, like a cloak, his pale otherworldly skin and his ability to bring disaster to anyone who grows close to him and his own wish for death.
Mikan's original concept was also a zombie girl with a brain in a jar, which is very strange for the series.

Even one of Tsumiki's early designs, I feel, reflects the reality of her abuse too much. DR and SDR2 were both dark but remained quite light-hearted still even in the later trials. More fantasy/horrific designs would detract from the tone of the series too much, which is why they were altered. They also don't seem as grounded in reality as their final designs, either.

That's just the way concepts work, especially in a series like this. You go through so many wacky ideas that you can't possibly implement all of and naturally a lot of them seem like they might be more interesting to a viewer, especially given we already have an actual product to compare it to.

Problem is fleshing out a lot of these concepts is harder than it seems and is particularly difficult to work into everything else you've got as well.

Yes there is. A lot of Japanese games feature a bland, nothing special protagonist, because it's easier for the player to identify with that person. Most people don't have talents, so playing as someone who has all these skills removes the immersion the game is trying to establish. But because you are not a detective or something like that, you need help. Any person can investigate and make logical deductions, but things beyond that scope can't be expected to be easily figured out for just an average person. We need our Kyoko esque characters, because they're the ones that go beyond the protag when needed. No one would have figured out Chihiro's gender or Nagito's true intentions without these characters help.

Probably a reboot. It will make the game more accessible to the PS4 crowd. There is an actual Danganronpa Team now, so it'd make sense they'd want to franchise it more, so a new universe could really help that.

I think I've seen that but that doesn't mean it's true. Information is hidden or lied about to protect the plot of games and movies all the time. Like how in the Star Trek Into Darkness they flat out lied saying that Benedict Cumberbatch would not be Kahn. I know there are plenty more examples that I just can't think of.
