The game encourages making multiple weapons in several major paths to cover different situations and use materials from the monsters they're hunting. Just about all weapon paths are good or decent at some point in the game, most paths becoming the best for their element or just somewhat worse by endgame. The latter part obviously doesn't apply to well with GS/Hammer

Even with GS/Hammer the absolute best weapons are never so much better than everything else that you'd be severely gimping yourself using something else. There are some weapons that end up being outright bad, but the game's already encouraged you to make more than one so it ends up being fine even if you're making things blind.

The effect extender kinsect this time around is so hilariously much better than every other option it's essentially a massive slap in the face when you learn of it if you've made something else. This isn't the case with weapons.

Best to stop at Lv5, 0/3 at the level up counter, and not over 6/10 for any stat.

The level up counter for a new bug would be 3/3. Every time you feed the bug and fill up a full bar on any stat, it drops to 2/3 and the bar resets. Repeat until the counter hits 0/3. You can't feed the bug anything anymore. You can now level it up to Lv2 (upgrade the bug, 1st option)

Repeat until you level your bug to Lv6. Now you can change the bug to Aljaron (last option). Now just upgrade Aljaron to Lv7 (that's where he stopped because he didn't know how to continue)

Compared to the other Monhuns, 4U did have a comparatively more developed story, and the whole "travel around and interact with various people" thing was executed extremely well.
X doesn't quite advocate the whole travel thing as much, and things feel a little as though they are there and exist "just because".
The returning maps are well-picked, however. I'm not going to deny that. 4U had really nice maps, but also utter failures.
