Hunters are essentially vampires, anon. Think about it, have superhuman strength, endurance, and reflexes and chug blood all day to regenerate. Vilebloods in particular are just obvious about it.

Also, skeletons don't have blood, they have no business being in a game called Bloodborne.

>>
Why is fextra so full of shitters?

"Bad Boss

This is just pure bad boss design. Sorry From Soft, as much as I enjoyed Orphan of Kos and Lady Maria, Laurence is just lazy boss design. Not only it is a reskinned Cleric Beast, but you also:
- Gave him an insane amount of damage to compensate for the fact it is a reskinned version of one of the easiest bosses in the game
- Gave him AoE on every attack, just to make sure those are hard to avoid, since everyone already knows Cleric Beast's moveset
- Gave him an absurdly overpower second phase, with massive damage and repetitive moveset, that is at the same time really hard to dodge.
- Placed him on a TERRIBLE place for the fight, making his second phase even more strong.
This is just a stupid way to make the fight hard. I simply cannot beat this boss on my main character (on NG+++). Hell, I even suffered with one of my PvP character on regular NG."

Do people seriously believe Laurence is cheaply designed and full of artificial difficulty?

For me it was trial & error. Sooner or later you will figure his windows & patterns out.

Also, I'm upset that people talk shit about my favorite Boss in the DLC.

Used to condemn him while doing all the tries but have grown to love his fight & theme.

>Level thresholds

Depends on what kind of invasion you wantin' fa.m.

43 for absolute beginner invasions, hunting in Old Yharnam/Cathedral Ward/Forest n' shit.

60-70 for later NG invasions, from Yahar'gul to Mensis. Can go as high as 80 but it's not recommended.

100-120 for organized PvP, 100 dipping more towards late-stage NG and 120 reaching into the full range of endgame online activity.

And then finally 150+, for the facebook/PtS pro. Actually decent for SRRC invasions, unfortunately it's all FRC dungeons and invasions suck shit there because even with 50 vit and a rune you have the resilience of a paper towel.
>>
>>123855170

>>
>>123855170
Stake Driver if you want to be Djura.

Any powder keg weapon in general is fitting.

Also, it's probably thematically best with strength weapons in general. A gatling gun in one hand and a katana in the other aren't a matching combination.

Pretty sure it took place in Yahar'gul. When you go outside the chapel on your second visit, before the fight against the One Reborn, there is a big crater in the town center where the husk of a sacrifice (still smoldering) sits.

You'll only need flat ARCs to be effective with the dashing attack. 150s way too high
>>
>>123855697

I figured yahar'ghul is more just the remnants of the school that didnt go to the nightmare

whatever they're doing in the unseen village, with the gathering of yharnamites and the creepy corpse shit and whatnot, seems to be to return some being from the nightmare realm, which is what the one reborn is (who the one is, idk)

I think its the actual school in the nightmare realm that is performing the real mensis ritual

but idk theres posters that know way more about lore
>>
>>123855776
wheel is OK with no ARC. for untrick mode 50 STR is preferable to any ARC. for trick mode it's "STR>ARC quality", i.e. 25 STR, then 25 ARC, then 50 STR

but like, you can have base stats and still do ok-ish damage with flat gems

150 is really fucking high for pvp, it's the highest anyone would ever go and higher than what /bbg/ considers normal, which is 120 at absolute most

140 is better than 150 because you can still invade 120.
And it's better because you will hit natural defense level scaling softcap so weapon won't be as damaging and fights will be longer.
It's much more satisfying for pvp than autistic BL98 where neckbeards with top gems can kill you with 3 saif dashes.
>>
>>123855776
>150
Reddit pls go and stay go
>>
>>123855871
natural defense doesn't mitigate as much damage as 50/50 adds

at bl98 you can't do 50/50

if you're getting 3 shot it's probably by bl120s. the levels from 98 to 120 are pure damage stat levels. avoiding the 98 bracket just makes the damage problem worse by letting everyone 50/50 quality

At BL98 you can do 50/25SKL/STR or 25/50SKL/STR which can dish out almost as much as 50/50, especially with specialized gems. And for some reason defense scaling is really fucking strong.

I'm going to put this up on YouTube if that's fine. By the way, you should run offhand bolt/fire Saw for quick toggle for heal punishes. It's what I do with my Wheel build, the visceral damage is whack but if you can learn to pivot burrito it's super useful.
>>
>>123856368
you only get downscaled when using a password

>>123856345
it's 40, not 50. you gain more than 40 AR going from 25 to 50 on a quality weapon

it'll gimp shit like rakuyo that has only one scaling stat and caps out around bl80, but it won't gimp saws or ludwig's, it'll make them better

i've seen enough saws and i don't really want to cut pure STR/SKL weapons out of the meta

150 is a reddit meta (not sure how popular, but definitely one I've seen upboated). 120 is about as high as /bbg/ goes to for pvp. The semi-official 98 meta was chosen as it lets you fight 80s while also avoiding 150s.

>saws are not a problem in pvp

it can be more. i know the damage formula. and i think 25 to 50 will net most quality weapons more than 40 AR with chalice gems. and in a meta where everyone has 50 SKL they can just put on clawmarks and fish to one-shot you. this problem is exacerbated if normal hits are plinky because it becomes hard to kill people without them healing

I was more disappointed at how limited its moveset was compared to the hoontahs around the Hoontah's Nightmare. It feels like you just can't chain ha any of its attacks together the way they apparently can. It would've been fine with low damage, given its range, if it had a decent moveset.

you missed the point

fishing is a better strat in a meta where hits are more plinky and healing is more effective

fishing is not a problem at bl98 not because it doesn't 1-shot (of course it does), but because you can easily die without any fishing involved. everyone thinks they want a lower-damage meta but all my experiences with that are that it's just a fishing meta

it's really boring to trade hits and heal for a while and then have someone win the latency roulette. i'd much rather just fucking die to being hit
>>
>>123857104
It just feels very limited to me. There are maybe two or three R1s to chain together, then one dodge + R1/R2 attack, and the single tricked R2 that cannot be charged. It has range, but you can't do all the same stuff that the NPC hunters are doing, I feel. I'm no expert on it, but it just didn't feel that great when I first tried it out. Untricked mode is pretty close-range, but it's serviceable.

And amygdala is one of the chillest fights in the game still the first 2/3 of the healthbar she should never hit you ever because you can outrange and the remaining 1/3 is the same as normal, sit underneath her and wow she cant do shit. do you not understand hypotheticals. let me break down the structure for you

"X is not true"
"even if X was true, X is not desirable"

i don't think BL150 will fix the damage of dual-scaling weapons like saws (which have always been top-tier PvP weapons). i might believe it will fix the damage of single-scaling weapons like Rakuyo, since by that point they've had 70 levels with no damage gain and hell, you could just plunge those into VIT or w/e. however, i do not want to play in a meta where as you said, rakuyo L2 "barely scratches," because i think it would just be 50/50 saw builds parry fishing

i know you are capable of understanding this. it's not really an argument that has to be won, it's an opinion and anyway there's no way 4ch is switching to a 150 meta before das3

Haven't tried it with open foe gems, but the difference between my bolt saw spear's two cold abyssal + triangle and two cold abyssal + abhorrent waning setups was 10 AR thanks to the huge flat bonus from the waning gem. I suspected that the triangle setup would yield more damage with the high-multiplier moves, so I asked a friend to help me test the damage difference between the two. The waning setup did more across the board, even with the moves with high multipliers. I doubt counter damage would be very different, but I won't be farming elder again in this lifetime to find out.

for SKL/ARC the rule is to not go over 18 ARC because nothing past Augur is useful, especially with less than 50 ARC. a lot of people will stop at 15 for bone

best origin is probably cruel fate, but it depends somewhat on your target weapon. if you want t use BoM/Rakuyo these are very END hungry, so consider as much as 20-22 END. but if you want to use like Reiterpallasch this is infamously stamina-cheap and you can get by with like literally 9 END (but you need 10 BLT to equip it)

46 vit
20 end

>>
>>123858674
Well I don't know about the whole buying it from co-op thing but it's quite easy to get to/beat Amygalda at a relatively low BL. From there it's just rushing the chalice dungeon and getting the weapon.
>>
>>123858661
Pick isn't even fucking competing for the same role. It can't compete. The Pick can't fucking parry mid attack chain. That puts it below Reiter by default. Pick is a versatile weapon like BB/HA. Reiter is a careful dueling weapon with excellent parry options. Pick might be high tier, but a smart Reiter turtle is still top tier by a huge margin. It's pretty much impossible to win against one being played properly.
>>
>>123858661
Pick can't parry mid combo with some of the highest gun damage in the game. It's also slower and has less range untransformed

so first off, let's be clear: your character is weak because you tried to do everything all at once

having said that, everyone fucks up their first character, and has to level it up really high to compensate. just go to 125 or w/e and put all the points in STR

on a blind first character you have 0 chance in hell of having some kind of perfectly-formed PvP build

The Hunter's Nightmare is NOT the past. It is not unlike all the other nightmares in the game. There is nothing to indicate that it somehow is the past.
There are only certain locations, like the fishing hamlet, that are copied straight from the real world in the moment the nighmare was created, just like the hunter's dream is a copy of the abandoned workshop.

>>123860542
Hosts aren't a thing. "Host of the Nightmare" is a bad translation that seems to have misled many people about the nature of the Dreamlands in Bloodborne

>>123860483
Mergo isn't the "goal" of the Mensis ritual, the "goal" is to have Kos grant them eyes. They're just using Mergo's crying as an eldritch radio beacon, banking on the fact that Great One's obsessive desire for children will compel her to answer their prayers.

The One Reborn is the Mensis' anti-hunter system. They're sacrificing shitloads of people to get the raw materials for it, and the summoners deploy it whenever a hunter gets too close to their boss, who is meant to remain unmolested

That's the point, they can't get to Kos so they try to recreate it by doing the ritual. Mergo is the child of Queen Yharnam and Oedon but it exists, like its father, only in voice. So Mensis had to give him a body if they wanted to interact with it.

The Japanese text translates roughly to "Nightmare's Master", which implies to me that he merely oversaw everything that went down within it, not that he was somehow intrinsic to its creation. Even in the English, the word Host is used exclusively in relation to Micolash and is never implied to be a universal component of any Nightmare. He and the School simply visited an existing place within the Dreamlands

I don't see how it isn't the past when a lot of the items are representing the past and you even get a set of gear from hunters from the past, at the time they were dozen a penny. And they are also everywhere. Plus there's also Maria there. I very much believe it is the past but just a nightmarish version of it, or a current nightmare representing the past. Whatever it is, it's clearly focused on the past and not the present.

I've been trying to figure out what bugs me about orphan of kos and after fighting him again I think it's all the fucking floating. Every singe time he does anything like jump in the air he floats for a second, he swings his weapon like a cartoon character and it means its hard to dodge because everything is like half a second later than it normally would be.

I mean regardless it's just about getting good and adjusting but...I can't quite understand why he's designed this way.
>>
>>123861429
The nightmare was created during older days, which is why it looks like you're visiting the past

But everything happens in real time, it's just a realm created and made to represent what Yharnam looked like during old days
>>

people who are sponsored by Great Ones definitely have a say in constructing the form and function of the Nightmare -- just look at Gehrman and the Hunter's Dream

>a current nightmare representing the past
thats bascially what it is just this general is getting nitpicky because every now and again we get someone who can't seem to grasp the concept that you don't time travel to reach it,

you're essentially seeing the state of things how they were back when the nightmare was made, but as far as space and time is concerned you're in the present.
>>
>>123861481
I just saw Orphan as some insane super-powered humanoid Old One, of a kind. It's parent died before it was "born" into a nightmare realm and could only react to it's surroundings. The floatiness that you're talking about didn't really rub me the wrong way at all, but I can see why it could for others.
>>
>>123861506
No, the Hunter's Dream is a prison (or a playpen) specifically constructed around Gehrman. Nightmare of Mensis doesn't seem to be built FOR mMnsis, rather than BY Mensis for Mergo (which is a dead baby stillborn Great One)

>>123861576
Curse was blood madness. Notice that the Orphan was staring at the weird sun which is shaped like the collapsed eye of the Blood drunk hunter. Once you killed Orphan, curse is dispelled and Orphan's soul is set free from maintaning it.

>>123861576
Curse was cast by the Orphan, to punish the people who were responsible for the sins in the Fishing Hamlet and the research labs (Byrgenwerth, the Church, and the Hunters).

The curse was the Scourge of Beasts, just like Loran, which condemned Yharnam's civilization, and punished the people who were in charge of it (the same sinners as before) for their ambition
>>
>>123861423
It's still just a voice that is bound to the Nightmare by the Wetnurse, a body in the real world would make it to a real-great one like Kos. Also don't forget it's the child of a great one, which means it should be "dead", so it might not have any power on its own unless of course it's not the child of Oedon anymore but something else, namely the One Reborn.
>>
>>123861619
Alternatively, it could be seen that all the hunters in the Hunter's Nightmare have just been stuck there for that fucking long. It's called an "endless hunt" for a reason.
>>
>>123861576
For Blood-Drunk Hunters to be trapped in the Nightmare. Lots are confused and think it has something to do with Yharnam's Beast issue but it's just with regard to the Nightmare. Could potentially explain the need for the Hunter's Dream, besides Gehrman's wanting a live pseudoMaria. Immortal hunters immune to Blood drunkenness are a decent workaround, so it's possible the events of DLC was partially a catalyst for the main story
>>
Everything about The Old Hunters seems like cut content they finished rather than new content.

Also, it's funny looking back at the Project Beast trailer and realizing the video is in Hemlock and Hintertomb with only the Grand Cathedral and a generic circular courtyard that never made it into the game.

Also, I'd forgotten that Ebrietas was shown in the Grand Cathedral.
>>
>>123861687
>a body in the real world is required to be a "real" Great One
doesn't seem to be a requirement, just look at Oedon

this makes no sense. the curse was punishing the sinners who were responsible for fucking up innocents in the early days of the Church and Byrgenwerth. Because the literal reason why a hunter would be trapped in the nightmare is the sole fact he's become blood-drunk?
>>
>>123861576
As a matter of fact one of the big revelations of the base-game story was that there is no curse, it was the old blood itself that caused the beasthood. I really don't understand why they retconned this in the DLC, although I guess it makes Laurences plan more tangible than it was before.

I think the Orphan simply created its physical body thinking of Gehrman, that probably was the most skilled hunter involved in the events of the hamlet. Remember that is not the real Orphan, the black mist is, however after defeating its avatar it kind of surrenders, admitting defeat.

Gehrman never become trapped in the nightmare because the deal made with the moon presence traps him in the dream instead, a place to send hunters to destroy the nightmare of mensis that caused the red moon to hang low, rapidly transforming blood-drunk individuals in beasts. The red moon ritual is then stopped by Rom, probably.
>>
>>123861835
It does target them, why do you think the church is doing inside the Hunter's nightmare and experimenting in the Research Hall? It's just that as crazy scientists pulled into a purgatory, they just did their crazy experiments until they eventually built the Astral Clocktower to climb into the Fishing village again and begin to fuck with the fish people.

So let me make sure I get this straight:
""Every Great One loses its child, and then yearns for a surrogate"

Oedon & Queen Yharnam's child is Mergo, who is also formless, protected by Mergo's Wet Nurse.

Ebrietas was found beneath the Grand Cathedral (or brought there from the Isz Chalice?)

Mother Brain who was found in the nightmare.

Kos's washed up shell in the Hunter's Nightmare and the Orphan, born of Kos.

How do the Amygdalas fit into all of this?
>>
>>123861890
The "curse" isn't what you think it is. It's not tied to the beast curse in yharnam and they didn't retcon anything.

>the curse was placed on the murderers and their descendants etc.
and if we assume that the Hunter's Nightmare is the Curse, than this curse only condemns hunters, not the researcher officials who were doing the actual evil sciencev -- missing the people who were responsible for it all
>>
>>123861897
No, because my house isn't some fucking spell/dream and was here before I was even born.

And you're forgetting the fact that once you kill The Wet Nurse that takes care of Mergo the nightmare is slain. And once you kill Orphan, the other nightmare is also slain.

The Moon Presence is not the host of the hunter's dream, specially since there would be no fucking reason for it to just put a polished Maria there when it has fuckall relationship to her.
>>
>>123861835
>Why would such a curse be restricted to punishing the Hunters, who were just their lackeys? Why would it not target the administrators who were in charge of the whole operation?

Laurence is in the Nightmare, after all, it could be presumed he was at least present for the ransacking of the Hamlet if not responsible in some way. Maybe this is why he's "destined to seek his skull" and seems so especially distraught as a beast, perhaps he specifically was cursed with that fate? I don't think it's restricted to the hunters, we certainly find plenty of non-hunter enemies. It's worth mentioning that the hunters would certainly have killed most anything else that ended up there in their blood-drunk state.

Laurence is in the nightmare, but no other researchers seem to be condemned to it. There aren't any church/choir/byrgenwerth/mensis staff in the Nightmare, only the insane victims of their experiments. The Eye of a Blood Drunk hunter says that only hunters get whisked away to the Nightmare, not everyone involved with such evil science, or descended from such people -- as we would expect if the Nightmare was the punishment for these deeds.

There must be more going on, the Nightmare can't be the full extent of the curse, it leaves too many guilty parties relatively unscathed

Because pressuring healers in this case would also mean oppressively shut down any and all action that happens at a distance. Considering it obviously can't be parried, it needs to be something that isn't just a 'hold L2 to completely control the fight' tool. It has its uses, and is especially great in ganks, just don't expect to completely shut someone down when they back off in a duel. Originally, I just assumed it was a cliff face because it's all weather-worn and eroded, but looking closely, there's obvious battlements and towers and the weather-worn texture is actually just the same fucked up/barnacled texture all over the hamlet.

What is that massive castle supposed to be? Is that Byrgenwerth or something? It doesn't really look like it but I can't think of any other massive structure like that near a lake in the main game.

It's better for PvE. It'll stagger basically anything with hyper armor. Apparently a single hit from it will stop BLB dead in his tracks, so I wonder its effectiveness on humanoid bosses and bosses like the Orphanage who could really use the extra openings.
>>
>>123863360
Cainhurst?
>>
>>123863319
People just don't really understand it. It inflicts massive stagger with each hit, enough so that one or 2 punches will stagger most bosses. People just expected it to be a parry fist, which it isn't. It doesn't have any use against small enemies who stagger easily anyways, and big enemies like the fish have fucked up stagger properties and are harder to flinch than most bosses so it's not great there. It's a niche weapon only useful against large bosses that can't be parried.
>>
>>123863429
It takes 2 hits but any weapon's dash R1 then L2 can be comboed. Pizza Cutter stuns in 2 hit anyway, that thing is seriously overpowered in the stagger department as well
>>
So how many Great Ones is that now?

It really is. I just wish the white nyrlathotep fish things were a little more threatening. Seeing them writhe in the poison from up on the cliff edge makes them seem terrifying as fuck but then you fight them and they're just easy enemies that attack with flailing nonsense.

I don't think that the church was exclusively comprised of hunters. Sure, there were hunters among the ranks of the Choir/Mensis (just look at Maria, for example), but there were plenty of "laypeople" there as well. The Choir are described as being scholars of Byrgenwerth, not Hunters -- and one doesn't necessarily imply the other. Not every choir member, etc. was a Hunter, otherwise the terms would be treated as synonymous, and they're not

So all along the church was actually just a front for a research lab and a university both dedicated to the study of cosmic superbeings, and the church itself was just used as a cover for their extremely unethical proceedings. Or did they deliberately sow the blood so they could use the people of yharnam as sacrifices in the ritual?
>>
From a Blood-Drunk Hunter's perspective, wouldn't the Hunter's Nightmare be considered an absolute paradise, not a curse? Think about it -- if you're a hunter that's gone crazy, wouldn't being in an environment where you can hunt and kill indescriminantly for (literally) all time be the actual best thing ever? Why is this being interpreted as a curse on the Hunters, it's not like they're suffering in there. Wouldn't it be more logical to suppose that becoming Blood-Drunk in the first place is the curse?

It's a pretty good system, and you choose to slay the nightmare because ???
There's actually no benefit for finishing off the orphan's shadowy spirit beyond a bit of insight. You just do it because.

I always thought that the Orphan was Byrgenwerth's attempt at making a 2nd Rom. As in, Kos granted Rom eyes, and I suppose that it's not illogical to assume that Rom was birthed in a similar manner to the Orphan, since Kos is female, and can spawn half-breed Great Ones herself.

So Byrgenwerth tried again with the Orphan, hoping to see if they could hypothetically mass-produce the ascension, along with their experiments on the fishpeople. Only, the Orphan wasn't as cooperative as Rom

that's what I'm saying -- the Curse is becoming Blood Drunk and suffering from the Scourge, in the first place. The Hunter's Nightmare isn't the curse, since by the time it reaches you you aren't in any position to suffer in it -- it's actually a grand old time, in your mind-broken state

but Ludwig was dead on the Yharnam dream world (his skull is on the cathedral) then why is he in the nightmare?
>>
>>123865531
Consider how the Laurence skull item flat out states that even if Laurence got his head back he could never get back his memories.

That's because the church took his insight.

I feel like most of the hunters in the game have had their consciousness ripped out of their bodies with their physical forms dying in the real world.

Also, is the church chick praying at the altar beneath the research hall Amelia pre-transformation?
>>
>>123865487
dying after you succumb is how you get spirited in. instead of respawning in reality, as is normal for a Hunter, you respawn in the Nightmare. My money's on the idea that Gascoigne and Henryk are in, and you just never meet them.

Unless, people who fully transform into beasts don't make it in, and the Nightmare just sucks in people who have gone crazy, and not yet transformed

>the curse
This isn't dark souls, nigga. The 'curse' of the nightmare is a metaphorical one, not the literal cause of beasthood. Beasthood isn't unique to the blood moon, either. It's important in Yharnam because everybody became a beast as a result of the ritual. People still become beasts outside of that specific edge case, but it's never as widespread or apocalyptic.
Beasthood also predates the contact with Kos and the creation of the nightmare (eg. Loran) so it's not the source.

The source of beasthood is the blood itself. It has nothing to do with the nightmare. The nightmare itself is the 'curse' and exists to punish the ones responsible for the sins at the fishing hamlet and their descendants by drawing them into an unending nightmare where they perpetually relive it.
>>
>>123865668
>Also, is the church chick praying at the altar beneath the research hall Amelia pre-transformation?
No

It's just the same prayer.
>>
>>123864707

>>123860201

>>123865668
Considering the Beasts' Embrace rune that's in Laurence's skull, I get the impression that Laurence transformed, and they were experimenting with Beast's Embrace on his beast form in the Research Labs, to try and bring him back somehow. But it failed, and so they cut his head off

This was evidently retconned. It never made sense timelinewise because he had to have beckoned the Moon Presence before death. In the case of his death being before the formation of the Healing Church, Gehrman would have to have been trapped in the dream by then as well, as it's almost certain that beckoning the Moon Presence was something they were both involved with. This isn't right though, as Gehrman's aware of things seemingly up to the events of Old Yharnam, and at the very least Ludwig's time. So he worked for and existed in Yharnam during the Church's "reign" and can't have been trapped in the dream before the Church's formation, so then Laurence couldn't have been dead by then.

Timelines in Souls games have always been immeasurably fucked though
>>
>>123865743
Or it's possible that his transformation was the result of experimenting with the rune itself, and he wouldn't have become a beast otherwise.

Hell, the cleric beast in the main game comes out to fight you only when you attempt to enter the cathedral ward, as though it's guarding the entrance to prevent people accessing the town while the ritual takes place. It's entirely possible that cleric beasts aren't victims of the scourge, but willing users of the rune.
>>
>>123865705
Nigga, I'm the same anon that explained that the curse isn't the one that is causing beast hood. I'm saying that the curse is the one that's causing blood madness or the addiction to it like crack

The best example of the Curse being Blood madness is the weird Sun thing throughout the DLC. It's shaped in the form of a collapsed Iris and is dispelled when the Orphan returns to the ocean
>>
Ok, as I'm a shithead and actually bad at this game, anyone wanna co-op the Hunter's nightmare with me with me?
>>
>>123865705
But anon, Loran was cursed as well, their chalices mention it. And curses are a literal something that an angry Great One applies to you after you piss it off, see the Defiled Chalice. Beasthood is heavily implied to be a curse from an angry Great One, even in the base game

>>123865765
>>123865831
the Old Hunters set, I think, says this. However, it makes a point of saying that the Old Hunters disappeared en masse, suddenly. I don't think this implies that such a thing is how getting into the Nightmare happens normally, I think it was a one-time deal that happened during the Nightmare's creation.

>>123865881
or their job is to send them to their fate in the Nightmare
>>
So who the fuck was talking at the end of the dlc? Sounded like some kind of documentary on tv, with the way he was speaking
>>
LISTEN UP LOREFAGS. TIME TO DROP SOME BOMBS

>The first Hunter of Hunters came from a foreign land
>"Sky Burial" was the tradition there
>Fishing Hamlet practices Sky Burial
>Hunter's Rune doesn't actually mean Hunter. Description says it was appropriated.
>There's a corpse tied up to imitate the Hunter's Rune at the entrance of the Hamlet
>Hunters of Hunters focus on killing Blood Drunk Hunters

Basically, I'm saying that the first HoH was from the Hamlet and possibly engaged in his role in a vengeful capacity. I'm also saying this pushes a lot of strength into the whole "blood drunk curse" idea. Which I like, because it keeps the Moon Presence as the probable cause of the Scourge and also removes a weird plothole where Loran and Yharnam both got slammed with the same curse but from different Great Ones. Loran's curse was beasthood. Yharnam's was blood addling and the nightmare.
>>
>>123865743
But Laurence's skull DOESN'T exist:

Skull of Laurence, first vicar of the Healing Church. In reality he became the first cleric beast, and his human skull only exists within the Nightmare.

The skull is a symbol of Laurence's past, and what he failed to protect. He is destined to seek his skull, but even if he found it, it could never restore his memories.

>>123865860
Apparently Ebrietas is the reason the chalice labyrinth was built. All those ancient civilizations were built around venerating it as a god, which would imply that it's not an ascended human but legitimate first-contact with an alien great one.
>>
>>123865898
I don't think that it's a retcon. More it could explain why there was the break from Gehrman's style of hunting in the first place.

The doll's dialog seems to imply that the Hunter's Nightmare is actually Gehrman's nightmare since killing the Orphan of Kos brings peace to him.
>>

Ebrietas is Kin, she responds to kinhunter gems. Also, considering that Ebrietas was "left behind," it seems more likely that the Old Labyrinth was built to worship all the other Great Ones that skipped town without her
>>
>>123866004
>Apparently Ebrietas is the reason the chalice labyrinth was built.
No. You've missed the point of Ebrietas. She's a Pthumerian who changed or was born that way. The Pthumerians built the labyrinth because their whole culture revolved around the Great Ones. Ebrietas was "abandoned" for being shitty and lame as far as GOs go.

>>
>>123867486
>how would an Oedon-focused DLC even work?
By giving you an item that breaks insight limit and allows you to at least partially understand his existence.
>>
>>123867021
So with literally nothing tied to Eileen except for a bunch of boats out there and a corpse hung upside down with arms hanging out you're assuming that a bunch of fish people putting boats out to see are actually crow hunters who do sky burials which is based on a practice putting people out on MOUNTAINS for birds and passing animals to eat.

Nigga. You are literally as stupid as the people that said Cleric Beast is Ludwig. That is how retarded you are.

Without any visual evidence, without any consistency, without even someone sharing Eileen's accent or clothing style, with nary a crow to be seen, or even weapons to show, the Hunters of Hunters and the sky burial originates from the Fishing Hamlet; an island full of fish people.
>>
>>123867539
Nigga, Oedon is the blood. There isn't a 'who'
>>
I'm doing a BLT build, already finished the DLC in a BL 98 character. I want to get the Bloodletter and the Bowblade, what is a good BL and how reinforced my weapon has to be in order to do the DLC as soon as possible?

Read its runes, nigga. Oedon is formless and exists through the mediums of blood specifically the old blood) and voice. There isn't an oedon, it exists within every living creature with the old blood in their veins.
>>
>>123867659
Nobody said that DLC will end up with us even harming him. Just avoiding his influence and fighting against a host of his realm, for example.

The entire DLC location would be Oedon

You've got Oedon all wrong, Anon.

He isn't formless because you lack insight, he literally has no physical form, he exists only in voice, and the Blood is his essence. No amount of insight will spawn a body that isn't there
>>
>>123867690
So somehow, along the way, a bunch of fish people somehow managed to leave the nightmare after the Orphan of Kos cursed everyone. Then, for some inexplicable reason, decided the best option was to dress up like Crows, which is a direct reference to their time honored tradition of sky burials, which is actually being buried at sea where crows don't traditionally fly.
>>
>>123867913

My first playthrough was a strength build, what should I do for my second playthrough?
I'm torn between doing a pure skill playthrough or trying a bloodtinge-focused build.

I'm worried that a skill playthrough will shaft me with the cane as my only weapon for a really long time and I'm not a big fan of that weapon, though I want to end up trying some of the more interesting ones like the blades of mercy and rakuyo and whatnot.

I figure with a bloodtinge character I can get the riflespear fairly early and have some fun with that until I get some real blt weapons, but I'm not sure how I'd even build a bloodtinge character to bring out the most in all of the relevant weapons (can I use the reiterpallasch at minimum dex or will it do no damage?) or if being a gun-toting hunter would even work as a playstyle.

You can get the Saif once you get take out Vicar Ameila. Reiter is good, but since you can put papers on fast weapons for massive damage, your dps wouldn't suffer that much
>>
>>123868413
Yeah, with SKL you're stuck with cane for a bit unless you kill Eileen when you first meet her for a quick BoM. You can also kill Amelia, go into DLC, rush the saif.
>>
Hey guys! I'm dropping some facts on you.

Turns out the Fishing Hamlet is Japan. Yamamura is from there because he uses the Rakuyo and that's where the Rakuyo originates. The Chikage also originates in the fishing village meaning the Vilebloods are all from there as well!

See, Orphan of Kos uses blood as a weapon. So do the vilebloods!

They also have a katana. Yamamura uses a katana and so do the vilebloods.

That means the fishing hamlet used to be where Cainhurst Castle is now!

you get the saw spear in the very first area for a skill playthrough, and if you go pure bt you need to either rush the chikage or bloodletter because a reiter will do even less damage than usual with low skill
>>
>>123868609
>>123868619
That sounds good, then. I think I can go ahead and buy the key to the gate and rush Amelia early on.

If papers really benefit fast weapons (I assume because buffs are flat damage) then does that mean it'd be worthwhile to invest 15arc to use the phantasm shell? Is paper better than the shell?

>Odeon is actually a disease, the voice merely a symptom if infection. Purge the area, including the people that tried to purge the are but failed
>Some cultists did some weird shit to gain favor with odeon, go kill them

It's not to hard to do something if you're willing to include the possibility that what we know of odeon isn't 100% true. Revelation is a big theme of cosmic horror after all.

Is there any good MLGS damage tests yes?
Thinking about creating a build exclusively around that thing, i know that it gets good damage on melee part of moveset on quality build and good projectile damage on arcane characters. But is it possible to balance them? Nourishing gems?

What's better on MLGS, Nourishing gems or just straight up 27.2%?

Can anyone confirm that cooping with someone who has the beast claws (equipped?) unlocks them to be bought in your shop?
>>
Does the L2 of the MLGS have hyperarmor?
>>
>>123868727
It's basically arcane paper but 3 bullet's really cheap compared to the 10000 that papers cost later. You also get beast roar, hunter's bone and with 3 more points Auger for easy backstabs.

>>123868912
>>123869062
Yes, Nourshing gems are good, you can easily hit for 1K on the L2, note that the transforming attack from tricked form does arcane damage as well for free and pan cake the victim

Trick R1's are lackluster and deal the same damage as untricked R1 with less horizontal coverage. Go into trick mode when you intend to burn bullets to take out the target.

>>123869039
No, you don't have the flat gems to make the shotgun component powerful.

>So somehow, along the way, a bunch of fish people somehow managed to leave the nightmare after the Orphan of Kos cursed everyone.
No fish people ever left anywhere. Kos/Orphan did the cursing with their godly cosmic power.

Additionally, not everybody had to turn to fish in the village. Some easily should have stayed normal.

>Then, for some inexplicable reason, decided the best option was to dress up like Crows
Crows could easily fly out and scavenge from their floating caskets.

>where crows don't traditionally fly.
The coffins aren't going right out to sea. They're floating nearby. Easy pickings.
>>
>>123868912
Not sure. I wonder what happens when you strength skill tinge are at 25 and you put scaling gems for each stat. Arc/tinge will probably reach S but skill might be at A
