Problems with Bloodborne after playing it for a short while:
>have to travel back to the dream to fast travel, doubles loading screen time
>generally being unable to rest at the lantern to reset the enemies in the area for farming
>R2s were made less viable in an attempt to homogenize them as slow, wound up attacks to be used in stealth scenarios, combat becomes more simple

>bosses getting stronger at the end of the fight can be poorly executed (Blood Starved Beast poison trail, Gascoigne was not even a threat until he transformed)
>health regeneration for retaliating after taking a single hit means you mash on R1 whenever a weak opponent manages to hit you, and cleanly killing minor opponents is no longer encouraged
>fewer ambushes and beginner's traps, walking around in unfamiliar territory feels less scary than in Souls games
>because firearms cause stagger parrying is extremely low risk
>durability was changed to how it was in DaS1, DaS2 implementation was better because durability became a meaningful stat and not an occasional chore

So far it's slightly better than DaS2, but a little bit worse than DeS and a lot worse than DaS

I'm loving this fight with Maria.

It's not really all that difficult, at least, not to the point where I feel like "THAT WAS UNFAIR!" when I die. It's because I fucked up on that dodge, or I overextended and didn't have the stamina to avoid her whole combo, etc.

Trying not to just parry her to death, mostly because it feels cheap and I'm actually enjoying this fight. Especially following the fucking slog that was the Living Failures. Fucking jelly-headed niggers spawning behind me during the meteor shower and OHK'ing me with that fucking headbutt.

Great theme, though. Holy shit everything in the DLC has a GOAT-tier theme.

as far a ambushes are concerned there are many but if you are a souls veteran its nothing new, like how DaS was pretty safe for DeS players.

My pet theory is that he's actually the vermin. It's not so much a single great one as it is an entire race of cosmic parasites sharing some degree of distributed intelligence and will. He's seen as 'formless' because the church lacks the science to properly detect parasites residing within blood, and he represents both blood and voice because the influence that he has on the minds of his host as they're slowly turned into beasts is probably akin to a whisper in their mind.

I wouldn't be surprised if all of the positive effects of the blood are the result of the vermin as well. They probably feed on the old blood and get invigorated whenever they're given a dosage, giving positive effects to their host as a result.

I'm doing the DLC right now at level 90 in NG. It's no cakewalk, but it hasn't been a -huge- challenge either. I'd say minimum level is around 60 or so. Kos is bloodless and Paleblood is a metaphor. There's no such thing as 'paleblood' it's just a cryptic message telling you the sky is fake.

A blood moon or harvest moon is a certain time of the year when the moon appears red due to science things. It's linked with all sorts of occult stuff and superstitions. The "Paleblood" hint that crops up throughout the game is alluding to the fact that the red moon that's been beckoned by the mensis ritual is being hidden by Rom. Hence it's a Pale Blood Moon, or a "Paleblood sky".

The whole Paleblood thing is just a cryptic way of saying "uncover the truth behind the ritual." There's no actual thing that's paleblood, it's deliberately a misleading play on words.

I tried that and the results were hilarious.

Also amusingly, I used the bone blade on that anchor one that's on the way to the 2nd lantern, after pulling every other enemy on that path to him. He soloed everything and cleared the entire path in the duration of the bone blade. The combined caster, fishmen and dogs didn't even dent his HP before getting flattened.

Is there anyone else who prefers "You Hunted" to "Prey Slaughtered"? It's like the difference between "You Defeated and "Victory Achieved". The operative word of "You Defeated" and "You Hunted" is "You". That's the whole point of these games. It's you who overcame the boss, so the text should reflect that. "Prey Slaughtered" and "Victory Achieved" are too abstract for something that should feel congratulatory.

Also from what I've gathered, The reason Vilebloods are so 'vile' is basically because their strain of blood is from a completely different source than the ones the church uses. This is why all of the women that have or have attempted to bear the child of a great one have been connected to that bloodline (Yharnam, Annalise, the whore). Their blood is from a different great one, so it can interbreed. I think this is why blood dregs look like sperm. To the vilebloods, the church's blood is essentially sperm. The Church hates them because it's a dangerous strain of blood entirely outside of their control that might start shitting out a pantheon of abyssal gods any second and violate their monopoly on eldritch truths. Annalise is trying to get knocked up on blood dregs precisely to bring this about. Ironically. she's the only one that wasn't chosen by the great ones to bear a child.

A great one can't breed with itself. They haven't really been breeding with humans so much as using their bodies as surrogate incubators.

MORE BLOOD doesn't have any space that'd be conducive to pvp and is too enemy-dense. It'd just be a pain in the ass for both parties.
The research ward is more of an exploration zone so invasions would just get in the way, plus it'd be really out of place to have a naturally spawning bell maiden there. Hamlet would also be out of place, plus the second half already has the bloodletter dude, so it'd only be that first short section in which you repeatedly invade people making suicide runs at the well and watch them get anchor'd before you can reach them.

You find numbing mists outside of cainhurst. They're just a generic "I hunt and kill people" item, which is why you find so many around the dedicated invasion covenant.

In her case it's a clever double-entendre. You get them from her as rewards before you have context and they seem innocuous. It makes sense for a doctor to have some kind of numbing medicine, right? Then later you realize it's an item held by people who hunt and murder other people and she's got them on hand because she's a choir tool that took over the lab by force and has been using it to experiment.

The hunters have always been the muscle of the blood-meddlers, whether they called themselves scholars or clergy. The early workshops cleaned up the beastly messes in Burgertown and Yharnam, then the church workshop did the same thing on a bigger scale, just as the Cainhurst knights served the same function at the castle. But all hunters are capable of hunting things other than beasts, and if you've got them on the payroll already, why not use them to subjugate some small fishing village? With hunters on your side, even magic-wielding fishermen are no problem. The Cainhurst knights are pretty directly shown to employ their skills for darker purposes than just killing beasts on a regular basis.

I think it's foolish to imagine hunters were all good, decent people. Plenty of them ended up blood-addled, after all.

So far I haven't been able to make the charged trick R2s deal more damage than a kirkhammer's or pile driver's. The stamina costs on the entire fucking moveset are ridiculous considering how slowly the R1s chain and how weak in general it is. Even the beastcutter kills things faster.
