hi /hbg/ i need your help

i bought a secondhand japanese 3ds with 4.4 sysnand and rxTools ready with 10.3 emunand
but it seems that the guy i bought the 3ds from fucked up something and i can't play online, it keeps asking me some kind of confirmation again and again
so i asked him what kind of fuck up did he do and he's totally oblivious about it except the fact that he seems to forgot the health and safey thingy

so my question is, is there any way to fix it? i don't mind erasing my emunand data as long as i can play online

they will update your console if you send it in. I had a similar problem (card slot broke) and called them to make sure. The guy on the phone was pretty chill about me not wanting it to update, but he told me its just part of the process and that he cant do anything about it.

Looking into it a title restore would remedy this but my EMUNAND corrupted as I finished installing my CIA's and tried to run menuhax.

Would reinstalling the CIA keep my saves intact and update the tickets? If so I have a lot of downloading to do.

Hey guys, I bought an original 3DS that already has cfw/rxTools. It launched through the MSET exploit but I changed the emuNand/cfw language to English and now the MSET exploit won't work, I have to access through a website every time.

Was just wondering if it's safe to format everything on my 3DS and do the cfw tutorials from 0 without damaging anything previous.

With pasta mode, I've gotten FBI to install on sysnand, and from there, some 3DS and VC games. However, when I boot into emunand, none of my installed CIAs show up. I read somewhere that you need to unlink the nands by formatting sysnand with the SD card out, so that all the CIAs show up on emunand. Is this true?

Your choices, depending on your budget, are the R4i GOLD 3DS RTS or the Supercard DSTWO (not the + one, that one has an inbuild gateway clone and can play 3DS games too, but it's prone to brickway bullshit). Both of them work for what they were meant for, but the DSTWO has some extra features, like GBA/SNES emulation, so I would get that one if I had to choose.

Alrighty. Ever since I learned about homebrewing last week, getting a n3DSXL with workable firmware has become something of an all-consuming obsession to me.

I accidently bid on and bought another without checking if it had workable firmware, just because it had a flash cart. I don't know what to do, since I literally bought two new consoles and dropped $500 when I was only planning on $300. I'm not fucked for rent or anything, I just need to come up with a plan to get rid of the second one. I'm assuming you mean cia manager; FBI is easily the most flexible functionality-wise, though it doesn't look that great.

If you actually meant cia files, they're installers for whatever you want to load onto the 3DS's SD card as applications. Usually pirated/backup games fall into this category, since this means you don't need the actual cartridge to play.

What you don't understand is that the Wii U is a machine that thinks for itself. You may think you have it unplugged but it WILL plug itself back in. Hello. I was told to ask about buying a "homebrew" compatible New 3DS on here.
I've a few questions. How do I ensure that a New 3DS is at 9.2 or below? Can I check something on the box for that before buying it?
Do I need to buy a game or a flash cart to set up things? Are there any compatibility issues with "homebrew" stuff compared to running things legitimately?

You don't need a flashcart UNLESS you want to play DS ROMs. There aren't really any DS emulators. If you do wanna do that, get a DSTWO, and if you also want a 3DS flashcart, the DSTWO+ does both.

As for compatibility issues, the N3DS can only go up to 9.5 emunand, emunand is like a copy of the regular software running on the 3DS that's safe to update. So any games that require firmware over 9.5 require "cryptofixing", but in practice most downloads just did this already. For playing out of region games you just need rxtools pretty much.

To know about proper/compatible serials, look at these two links. Also what we're focusing on here is older models, so even if the serial isn't on here, if it's lower than one that is, it's probably also good.

You're not fucked at all. You can get CFW on that puppy no problem with just the browser. You'll want to probably update to 9.2 after getting CFW, though. There's a program called sysupdater to help you update to a specific version. There also system updates built into game cartridges, though, so if you can find one that has the 9.2 update that's a safer and easier way.

The latter is definitely harder because of the per-system horseshit Nintendo set up, but you could install self-signed CIAs with FBI through HBL, which only needs a userland exploit. It would probably be much harder to prevent with a firmware update.

Just idle thoughts after reading some stuff the scene has documented. I know I wouldn't really want to work on the encryption shit.

That's what CFW does. I meant somehow getting the private key from Nintendo, which is for all intents and purposes also impossible unless the server doing the signing is full of exploits. If you could sign a CIA with this private key it would pass the signature checks because it wouldn't compromise the chain of trust. It's decrypted by the public keys on your 3DS. It's really not possible to do this though. I should have thought before I mashed the Post button.

This is called "asymmetric cryptography". Nintendo generates a private key, which is then used to generate a public key.

The private key is, well, private, and only Nintendo has it. The public key is on all 3DS consoles.

For the 3DS to accept an update as legit, it must be encrypted with Nintendo's private key. The 3DS will try to decrypt it with the public key - if this succeeds, the update will install.

The problem is that it is literally impossible to retrieve the private key from the public key, so unless someone from Nintendo leaks it, tricking the console into installing a hacked update is impossible.
