What's ridiculous is that the 3DS hacking scene has essentially stopped progressing. It's not that people feel entitled to a new exploit, it's that there really should be continued work on one. They've got shit more standardized since the olden days, but they're still using a third party mod API (Forge) and their shit still breaks with every Minecraft update, yet they continue to all update their mods and their API for newer versions and then stop focusing on the old ones.

Someone in the old thread mentioned changelogs when an anon mentioned a potential secret kernel exploit on 10.1 (hypothetically, version chosen at random in discussion against updating even when above 9.2), then someone said that this sort of situation wouldn't come to be due to Nintendo releasing changelogs. He seemed to claim that a kernel exploit being patched would be mentioned in the changelog. Is this how the 9.2 exploit was found?

The 9.2 exploit was found by Gateway. Maybe someone found it before them, but if they did they didn't release it. The same goes for the 4.5 one.
The changelogs I was talking about aren't Nintendo's ones, but the ones automatically made by Yellows8's bot when each update gets released. If you really think they fixed an exploit in 10.0 or whatever, I guess it would be a good idea to look for it in what they changed there. It doesn't seem to be there, though.

If in the USA, all N3DS (non-XL) models are too new of firmware. You either have to get one from another country to get an N3DS XL.

You can find out the firmware it comes with by the first 6 or so characters of the serial numbers, so I'd suggest any store where you can see/touch the boxes, or a place with a nice employee to check for you.

I think the 9.5 emunand limit on N3DS is linked to the FIRM arm9loader and a keyslot not being cleared. This was fixed in 9.6 with new keys. You'd have to find another exploit like this to bring the N3DS up to more recent emunand. At least, that's what I understand.

Install and run QCMA, connect your Vita to your PC and open the CMA app, unplug the USB cable and leave the error message that pops up, connect it to your PS3, close the error and continue as normal. You have to do this because otherwise CMA will force you to update before you can transfer to/from a PS3.

EmuNand Tool will extract a file called emuNAND.bin. When you choose to Inject, it'll auto-detect your SD and it's EmuNand. It'll then inject the emuNAND.bin you chose.

For moving from a smaller SD card to a bigger one, has anyone had any issues with the "Nintendo 3DS" folder? Certain files, mostly "00000001.sav" files, just won't copy to my desktop. Every other folder and item on my SD transfered fine, EXCEPT the "Nintendo 3DS" folder.

Just get two. You can have the Gateway for plenty of space for .3dz roms and also the 3DS's SD for .cia

The SD that goes in your NDS has the Launcher.dat/emunand/cia on it.
The SD that goes in your Gateway has .3ds/.3dz roms on it.

You have to use emunand to emulate newer firmwares. Removing the SD from your NDS while emunand is open is like pulling the hard drive out of a running computer. You need two.

It looks like the Tomodachi Life save file is corrupted in some way.
It opens in my hex editor just fine... until I scroll to the bottom, where the program crashes.
Similarly, if I try to "save as" the file onto my desktop, that also causes a crash.
Strangely though, on my 3DS, the game launches and seems to save perfectly.

What is causing my fragmentation errors on my Gateway microSD?

I tried quick formatting multiple times last night. I tried both FAT32 and exFAT. I tried using SDFormatter v4. I copy all files at once to the microSD card after I finish formatting. I'm using trimmed roms. I even tried a trimmed rom and a none trimmed rom of the same game and neither of them worked.

I don't know what else is causing this. I can use this same microSD card and play regular NDS games on it but in gateway none of the 3DS games will load.

I'm also using all of the same games I was just playing. Last night I had to format my microSD to FAT32 from exFAT in order to use my Blue card to go to DS mode. Hey guys so I'm a total noob here, but last night it dawned upon me when I thought about having an emulator on my 3ds that I haven't even looked into any homebrew stuff for it yet. I have an old 3DS XL running on the latest firmware 10.3.0-28u and I'm not sure what my options are for putting homebrew on it so I was hoping one of you could point me in the right direction?

There a way to homebrew on a 4.76 PS3? I want to play the Vesperia English patch.

it's all speculation. unless you have a map of all the data in every old3ds and new3ds firmware from 9.3 to 10.3 and a bunch of notes on every single one explaining without any doubt whatsoever as to why kernel access exploits will fail from various methods on each firmware, there's no complete evidence whether or not kernel exploits can be found. it always seemed to me that major updates with new features as long as they somehow use more access to the system open potential for an exploit. I know simply running code isn't enough to gain full access to the system and usually it requires some sort of trick to make system calls happen or some sort of backdoor into the system which are inevitably patched or moved in updates. 3dbrew has a list if potential exploits and why they don't work but it isn't all the data from all the firmwares above 9.2 on old/new3ds. All it takes is one thing overlooked that has real potential for it. or maybe not. just don't let others tell you it's impossible because that simply isn't absolute.

also your only option is KICKASS and not CFW or piracy except the shitty overpriced write-once and then read-only Sky3ds which wont be allowed to get you free DLC or run update patches on games with the new Antipiracy features. you can probably use HANS to play games that have antipiracy measures from Sky3ds but it has drawbacks like not running game updates. and emulators run slow without kernel-only dynarec. tl;dr you're fucked for homebrew and it's all KICKASS ports and shit. have fun with over 9000 pong and doom clones that run better on a $10 smartphone you can set edpjoy on your 3ds to control as a wireless gamepad. currently using edpjoy to use my 3ds as a wireless controller for DS games on my $10 Android smartphone. honestly an interesting option as DS emulation is full speed. want GBA emulation at full speed and to use the buttons on the 3ds to play it? bam edpjoy and any GBA emulator that runs on Android. also the screen can be casted with audio to a Chromecast as long as you root your phone.

from what I've heard cakesfw is more barebones but rxtools is kind of unstable.

Huh that sounds cool actually. The only reason I don't run emulators on my phone is because I can't stand my fingers getting in the way and the unsatisfactory feeling of tapping the touch screen as opposed to clicking buttons.

Honestly I've become so broke recently that I don't care to buy any actual 3ds games if I can just run an emulator on it cause SNES and GBC can keep me entertained for hours.

I just installed Reinand on my 9.2 N3DS. What can I do with it now? Just install .CIAs from dev menu?

get edpjoy3ds and edpjoy Android app then and get a ton of emulators for your phone. DraStic is best DS emulator but Exophase won't make it free so you have to grab the latest apk from somewhere that isn't google patch and use Lucky Patcher to break the license check so it runs on your phone for free. your phone has to be rooted for it to patch it though. if you cant root your phone for warranty reasons or contractual obligations just get an LG Optimus Fuel L34C prepaid phone used and never put a service plan on it and use that for it. i found it one time at Ralph's for $10 with a Ralph's card but it has since passed. the one i have was $16 on Amazon and runs Kitkat firmware and i rooted it with towelroot. not bad for using a phone to play DS games and using 3ds homebrew to use my 3ds as a controller for it. ideally i'd have it full speed and on my 3ds's screens but i am making do with these options. it indeed works though.

Also, do I have to load my DS Profile every time I want to boot up Reimand? Seems like a pain in the ass, especially since anytime I go into the system settings it resets back to the default NAND.
