Reposting for all those who want to save the goat.

A huge part of Undertale is that the finality of death is what makes it tragic. Asriel and Chara's deaths drove Asgore and Toriel into despair and Asgore's killing of the six other humans tore them apart for ages if not permanently. Killing even one monster locks you out of the pacifist ending and prevents Undyne from being friends with you.

Death is final. It matters. Trying to escape it only brings tragedy. When Alphys tries to help Monster souls persist past death, they become the Amalgamates and this gives rise to Flowey. Flowey's ability to escape death causes the once sweet Asriel to become a true horror, both in action and eventually in appearance.

In so many points in Undertale, you help the monsters overcome their trauma. In the pacifist run, you help Toriel overcome her disgust with what her husband and the populace had become after her own children's deaths and leave the ruins. You help Undyne overcome her anger at the humans and teach her that monsters and humans can be friends after all. You help Alphys overcome her mistakes so that she can tell the truth and be comfortable with herself. You help Mettaton learn that he is truly loved by those around him. You help Asgore overcome his own guilt and pain and decide that killing as a means to an end is wrong.

Lastly, you do save Asriel. You help him remember his compassion and love. You help him accept what has happened to him and that there is no way to truly go back after death. His parents never learn that he was a vile flower who wanted to hurt others. His memory is pristine. Bringing him back to life would ruin the beauty of that ending and would backpedal on all the themes that Undertale has set up.

Let the goat rest. What happened to him was terrible, but it's over now. It's time to let go.

Death is final for everybody. Except for you though, you're special. And everybody who's killed by you and in the nearby vicinity of you. And the best part is you get no consequences for doing so.

Dangerous in that you can do bad things with it, not dangerous in that it's inherently harmful. The game doesn't punish you or even really chew you out for resetting to dodge death, Sans even encourages you to use the power for good when he judges you if you have a small amount of LOVE. It only harasses you if you use RESETing to murder, not to save.

I'd argue that it was. Everyone was happier for it. The only thing she did wrong was keep it a secret out of her own cowardice.

This is weak though if you consider the possibility of a better outcome. Nobody's sad over losing the generally positive pacifist neutral ending by resetting and getting the perfect true pacifist. There are no consequences for resurrecting people if you do it for good intentions.

Yeah, but he precedes that with his "kill or be killed" spiel which you are most certainly not supposed to be taking at face value. The game isn't seriously passing morale judgement onto you at that moment, it's Flowey letting in that he knows your secret.

The alternative case is everyone dying. It's the ideal outcome in that scenario to be sure, especially since they're all happy in the end.

You're missing the point. Even if he can't change his status as a flowey, he's still alive when he once was dead and he hasn't been Final-Destination'd back to being dead. Even if we can't fully SAVE him, his continued existence breaks the "death is permanent" rule.

This shit doesn't jive with what the game tells you. Souls are discrete. When Asriel absorbed Chara's soul, Chara was still there, trying to get Asriel to kill everyone. When you fight Omega Flowey, the six souls remember who they were when you call for help.
