What did it for me was playing TW3 and going for Yen out for a spergy obligation to canon even though I thought I preferred Triss. Ended up liking Yennefer more but still liking Triss. Then I decided to go back and read the books. That made me outright dislike Triss.

I've began winning more battles now, but they all absorb so much damage. 15 landed strikes just to take out a human opponent and 25 to take out a single Ghoul seems excessive. That includes critical hits

The game is just retarded in its depth / RPG abilities.

Witcher 3 barely passes as in RPG for me, it's about as 'cinematic' of an experience as you can get. Why do you think the game died out so quickly? There's barely any substance to it, it's a fucking amazing game in production value but when you look at it closely you find out that exploration is pointless, loot system is retarded, balance is non existent and build variety/replayability is also almost non existent. The game is a one time thing, RPGs should never be 'a one time thing'.

Witcher 3 is literally the TLoU of the RPG genre, a well crafted/presented narrative with zero substance

Witcher 3 is in my top 10 favorite games of all time but to kid yourselfi into thinking it's even close to Gothic series in terms of depth, variety and all round RPG mechanics is a laughable statement. I've completed Witcher 3 once and have yet to find a reason to play it again, every build plays more or less the same, quests rarely have branching paths and when they do they are hardly worth a second playthrough etc. Witcher 3 is a pretty linear experience when you look at it objectively, whereas Gothic/Morrowind and other sandbox RPGs thrive in their variety and replayability, Witcher 3 excels in its linear narrative.
