Current server status: Booting up. We're gonna, hopefully, probably, move to a (more expensive, more STRONK) premium server next week.

To join us, follow these instructions:

First of all, you need to get into the access group. To do so, add/msg this guy:

You can also use that for offline blueprinting and build it on the serbian later. I don't care if you want this server to be vanilla, it won't be. It's a shitload of mods, but they have been weighted and tested and they work. Half of them are tweaks and visual shit (no beacon glare, for example) anyway.

WARNING. 1.5GB OF DATA. COURIER PIDGEON INTERNET BEWARE.

You will be invited to a group called "Warbros Space Engineers". That group works as a whitelist. Only people in that group will be able to join the server. That is so I can control better who has access and we don't get unwashed pubbies.

Quick rule overview:
- Don't be a dick.
- Keep builds below 3000 blocks for main installations, ideally below 1000 for anything else.
- Stop grid spam. Every thing you build is a calculated physics object that eats performance.
- PvP is opt-in between two (or more) consenting parties. Period.
- Only one drill per player. Take the Large Ship Earthbreaker, it's a good drill. Why? Drilling kills the game for everyone. Simu speed drops like a mad cunt with too many drills.
- Keep Welders/Grinders to a minimum. Not talking about your average small welder with 8 Compacts, but avoid grind/weld platforms.
- Talk to me if you have issues. Don't just shitpost on /egg/, talk to me.
- Message me about people fucking with your shit.

Some general stuff:

READ THE FAQ (pic related) AND SAVE EVERYONE (AND ME, FUCK) SOME TIME.

- Server is running in Survival-10-10-10 game mode.
- You are encouraged to make your own faction. Buddy up with someone, make things happen.
- Warbros faction will not hold your hand. We'll help if you are conveniently close and can spare the time/resources, though.
- The server will have some QoL addons, such as the helmet mod. Read the description and understand it. Protip: Turn off the glass reflection, set the shadow scale so there is no shadow and deactivate delayed movement.
- Another is Chat History. Type /ch to see the last 50 messages typed in /global. Might help with catching up. Keen broke scrolling, though.
- Also, Build Info, which gives you information about blocks you're placing, such as airtightness. Turn it on/off with /buildinfo in /global chat.
- There's three respawn ships, the Sparkies. It has all you need to survive, some mats, beacon, solars, nuke reactor, refinery/assembler, air. Spawn in one of those and set out to meet the cold void. Keep in mind that Sparkies cannot land on planets because lol thrust. One of them can hover above the Moon and Europa, though.
- The server is set to autosave every 15 minutes. There are no manual saves. Expect crashes and reboots. Backups are made daily.

You might want to grab the Warbros UI, too. See through menus and generally improved visibility and an increased G Menu size.

Pic related are the three Sparkies you can pick from. Combat has less production and materials, but more guns and armor, also afterburners, miner has less sustained power and materials but a drill and an oxygen generator, solar has the most parts and is the most sustainable of the three.

When the server crashes - as in, "host has left the game", and it wasn't an announced reboot, help out by giving me some sort of summary of what was going. If you were online, please describe in detail what you were doing as it happened.

e.g.:
>Started to grind a 1x5 ramp block
>Crashed my new fighter into my main cargo hold
>Fired 50 gravgun projectiles at Joe, fuck Joe, I am glad he's dead.

This might help finding the reasons for crashes and do something about it.

Also don't jump the ATeam bus. Any vehicle with wheels will crash the server on using jump drives.
And when you place shield upgrades (Flux Coil, Capacitor), place them on the generators. If you place them elsewhere, shit crashes.

Planned features:
- If the upcoming premium server runs a dozen people at 0.9 or better simuspeed, we might expand to 20 slots.
- As soon as Keen releases the modding API for planets, we will add "Arrakis", a desert planet. I have commissioned an autist to make that thing for us, and he's hype for it. It will be with full PvP inside it's grav well. Yes. No rules, all PvP allowed, no protection, no persecution, as long as it's inside the grav well.
- I am looking into getting an economy system up and running, which will trade in "Spice", which can only be mined at Arrakis.

Not really. The way its built works directly against planets. Its fine for most 1080p applications, but it WILL choke on high VRAM applications or anything requiring high bandwidth. Its more stable than a 970, sure, but a planet card it is not. The two most important things are VRAM and memory bandwidth. The 960 fails on both.

If you have any, ANY hope of getting a 380X or better instead, make the investment. You'll thank me when VR hits.

Maintenance concluded.

The problem is, we have an insane amount of grid spam. People don't clean up after themselves. I found a total of almost 100 derelict grids, drifting through space, asking for CPU time. I tried to express how important it is to keep an eye on your grids, and I keep asking people to name their grids, but I think I will simply start to delete unnamed grids ("Small Ship 1252", "Sparky MkII-S", etc.) when I see them henceforth. I now went through every single grid (of which there were ~300) and checked for purpose, owner and status. Several were left to drift, far away from any settled space, or outright left in their unbuilt states for weeks.

If you don't want to space anymore, because you don't want to play, that's cool. But, tell me if you are fucking off. Especially if you are shitting out grids like a hyperactive kid goes through paper at crayon hour. I'll export that shit, and get it back in when/if you are back. For now, I am doing this based on a whim. If your shit is gone, ask me.

I was thinking about a conquest system once for these voxel type games.

It'd involve territory capture but without the potential for mass "griefing" (probably maintain some structural damage in various areas, but all available to automatically repair given the blocks stored).
An economy system would have to be in place, as the idea is about taking control of a certain area's "profits" (whatever that may be), rather than taking control of the structures. So you basically become the de facto ruler of the region and color it up with Chapter regulation stripes and collect taxes based on resources generated, but the guy who you "conquered" is still the mayor.

It's not. turrets don't know how to lead correctly so if you're going any reasonable speed or the server is running at like .3 sim speed they will never hit you. the only option is to spam like 100 turrets and hope the sheer wall of bullets and lag prevents people from getting it.

That'd be pretty cool if the risk/reward system was more balance out. For a game like Spengies survival the risk is sticking a respawn ship just out of range of your target's guns, exploiting blindspots which is legit, exploiting shitty targeting mechanics and/or wasting all of their ammo either with your own body or a rotating decoy. The reward is literally everything your target has, potentially forcing them to start from scratch. "PVP" almost universally becomes PVE because 90% of the time, the other player isn't there.

This is the exact reason the NEET Fleet server had the asteroid spacing about 10x what vanilla settings are; hiding is the only defense.

Eve online also has docks that you can put your ships in safely for all but the largest of ships.
Warbros has cannons with a range of up to 5km when manually aimed, whereas even the longest ranged autoturrets stop at 800-1000m and no way of docking your ships securely.

Gatling guns can damage components of a ship to inoperable with even just a short burst. Static weapons in default SE outrange turrets by about 100 meters. Gatling turrets having 900 meter range and static gatlings have 1000 meter range. All of my hundreds of hours of space engineers pvp have always boiled down to waiting til the guy is offline and just using a cockpit with a gatling gun on it to snipe every turret because he would do the same to me.

Unchained pvp just doesn't work in a rewarding and or fun aspect in this game. There is no challenge if you play it the meta way which you will have to. I've only had maybe 3-4 fights in which the other person was actually online and they were extremely fun.

Working pvp could be achieved with making a sector/planet thats pvp only and making a reason to go on that planet/sector like say a resource called pvpium that can be converted into whichever resource you choose.

Everyone wants to have fun shooting eachother but by default space engineers isn't a good pvp environment.

I already managed to get that part working adequately with merge blocks. Have the one on the blueprint turned off to begin with and it'll detach as soon as you turn off the one on the side of the projector. I see where you're coming from, but the more I think about it, gmod does already show some of the functionality you'd need, and if you were willing to break immersion somewhat, you could maintain some of those 2D quirks to keep the game working, like building materials being small in hand like a little rod of steel or a 6" square plate, but enough to finish an entire panel. You could then simply use and abuse spacebuild/wiremod plugs and sockets like mad to connect things to the boards. Computers can function as normal, wireclippers and welders could simply be touched to the panel almost as they are now, everything else is just arranging parts properly and putting plugs in the correct place on circuit boards. It's certainly possible, but you said it first, nobody has the will to put such a thing together.

Even with such simple mechanics it would still be cool as fuck though, imagine working with two other dudes to set up the fusion reactor somebody linked above. Too bad it'll never happen.

Could alternatively put one on the station. Just keep in mind that a sorter only allows items to travel in one direction.
If you need stuff to travel both ways - if you want to refuel the miner with uranium as it's being drained of ore - you'll need a sorter in each direction.

Physics and netcode tend to be weird in general. Lockstep style sync barely ever works because physics engines aren't deterministic enough, so you're stuck trying to stream object states from the server with a clusterfuck of heuristics to figure out when this needs to be updated and what else will break if the clients are told this thing has moved.

And since you probably can't deliver an update on every frame, you need something to blend between predictions and facts, which can then fuck up the clients' physics stability further. It's a very precarious thing.

No, I just want to build the systems by hand. Atmospherics would be tricky, as it would require quite a bit of work no matter where you try to save to effort. You can save work on map creation with a dynamic air pressure system, or you can save on processor time by pre-calculating pressure zones as per the map and abstracting it to a far simpler logical flag based system with a fixed list of interactions, I.E., how 2D tries to do it.

And yeah, it would be a pain and a half to assemble, but it could be done with sufficient autism. Still, once built, that's pretty much it. You have the game. Just set up TTT as normal and change/add roles, then add whatever fluff you like such as a clearance check whenever going through doors in order to restrict access or whatever. That would provide a basic but workable baseline for an antag round of SS13, everything else can be added from there with various mods or wiremod contraptions.

Okay. Look. Everyone who wants to see this happen, gmod is on sale. Get together with wiremod and spacebuild, and put together enough of a station using whatever modelpacks and mods you have to, run TTT on it, and we'll give this a fucking try. Base spacebuild has nuclear reactors, solars, coolant, atmospherics (rough approximation but workable) and wiremod lets us do whatever we want as far as electronics. Local cameras have reduced the strain they have on the server so security and AI is easier to do.

Just build the station, runn vanilla TTT, and we'll see where we can go from there.

I've never played this game before in my life, but I wonder, what would the absolute minimum feature set be to have it be (somewhat) playable? No 3D bullshit, just a straight remake. Obviously it would take a long time to re-create everything, but it might be possible to put together a decent engine and then let people add whatever features they care most about.

It's already fairly advanced, although with a lot of the same problems of a 3D game (because they decided to increase the sprite size four times and add more directions, so they had to use 3D models to make 2D sprites effectively)

How do you get it to stay in space? In campaign mode whenever I put something up there, if I ever warp back to it it's usually floating in the sea. There also seems to be a 50/50 chance as to whether it can actually see anything on the ground at all, I find balloons are more consistent.
